Our first time eating at Il Pastaio, though we've eaten at any number of other restaurants in the Drago universe and always have a good meal. Like all the other D-family outposts, Il Pastaio is busy and buzzy, well organized by a friendly staff, and utterly professional in all respects. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The carefully manicured decor is low-key elegant on the inside, but the bulk of the seating here is outside, with tables lining both sides of the corner property, creating the feel of a cafe in Paris or Rome.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our own waiter was friendly as could be, though occasionally a bit more MIA than I would have liked. Little extra requests like butter for the bread or a 2nd soft drink were left unanswered for a bit. Yes, it was a busy Sunday dinner rush, so I'm not really complaining, but it was a tad frustrating. We opted out of starters because we'd seen a dessert we wanted to order, so we went straight for entrees: Garganelli with Broccoli and Sausage for me, and the Tortelloni Di Zucca for my wife. My garganelli was perfectly cooked, with a nice, very slight al dente bite; the sausage had a nice hit of heat, though the broccoli was overdone and a bit mushy. The sauce of garlic and oil was not as flavor-forward as I've had in the past with other iterations of this dish. So, while I didn't dislike my meal, it was definitely underwhelming. My wife's Tortelloni was, to my mind, more successful. Again, the pasta was fresh and nicely cooked, but here the filling was more interestingly flavored, with the pumpkin and ricotta blend being more savory than sweet (a nice change), and the sauce of butter & sage adding an extra level of savory richness. The aforementioned dessert -- the daily special of Orange Ricotta Cheesecake -- was light and very subtly flavored, without being too sweet. It was enjoyable, but could have used, again, a more robust flavor profile, be it the citrus or the cheese... it was just, in the end, a bit too mild. Overall, we were surprised, as the menu is similar to other Drago locations, but we're used to being served meals that are much more memorably flavored. That said, while the food was essentially fine, I wouldn't race back for another meal at this particular venue.

There are restaurants in all the big cities in which I have lived that represent longevity, image-power, popularity, and tradition. And, there is usually a good reason for their stardom. While I am a big fan of evolved dishes that are novel and fresh, I have always loved old fashioned, genuine (as in the way they are made in the Old Country) Italian food. Il Pastaio does not disappoint in that respect. I have spent enough time all over Italy, and am part Italian myself, to judge this place a must-try in Los Angeles. We rarely venture into Beverly Hills given what used to be a difficult parking situation. Not with Il Pastaio -- there is free public garage parking almost across the street. If you visit on a Sunday afternoon, you will find a spot effortlessly and you will avoid the crowds. [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said, when we arrived around 1:30, Il Pastaio was packed, inside and out. Thankfully we had a reservation and they ushered us to the perfect table, inside (where I preferred to be on a sunny, cool but windy day), next to a bright (and spotless) window.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think there are people who prefer to be on the sidewalk in BH, so they can look for the cognoscenti and affluenti, LOL, but, I don't need to do that -- seen and been seen enough in my long life! Our table was perfect. View my photos. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the vibe inside. Again, I can happily report, Il Pastaio reminds me of all the fine, small, and exquisite restaurants I frequented in Rome, Florence, and Milan, to name the biggies[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The menu is extensive, and even though I had studied it beforehand on their website, it took me at least ten minutes to narrow down all the wonderful vegetarian dishes from which to choose. My photos show which were the lucky winners. There are meat dishes in abundance but, here's the open secret, Italians themselves are not avid meat eaters and all the portions abroad are small, hence multiple courses and few people eat too much at a meal. Lunch and dinner are also leisurely over there because Europeans see a meal as an event, not a blip in their day. The service was flawless, with our Italian waiter, Filippo, treating us as if we were Re Umberto and Regina Margherita. The table was very pretty and there was bespoke olive oil and vinegar ready for dipping the homemade bread that is served steaming in a napkined basket. I could smell it through the entire meal. Even the water came from Italy. Each course we chose came to the table at the perfect temperature, beautifully plated, and the previous were whisked away efficiently as soon as we were finished, as if by magic. All in all, this is a superb Italian restaurant. Fresh and new but traditional and comforting in its familiarity. I know we will return. Molto ben fatto, Signore Drago!

I enjoyed it! Sat on the patio and had a Caesar salad, a half lobster/half crab pasta and the "Justin Bieber" dish with chicken. Service was great and so was the food! I did think the JB dish was a little salty for my taste but was good overall.

The food here is excellent; quality Italian food with good portions and great flavor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is nice even the outdoors is pretty and they have heat lamps to take out the chill.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My reason for the three stars was the service. We did choose a later reservation time but I wish they just didn't have the reservation if they don't want to be there late. It took 25 minutes after us sitting for a server to ask what we wanted to drink. It was not busy maybe three other tables outdoor only the inside was closed. When our waiter was at the table he was annoyed at our questions regarding the tasting menu. It really made us feel awkward and dampered our whole experience which was really unfortunate because we loved the food and it was our last night in LA. I'd say make an earlier reservation maybe to receive better service. Also the espresso martini was disappointing it had ice and was very watered down. I'll end on a positive note that the Branzino was amazing. Everything on the dish tasted fresh. The burrata was also a hit for the whole table

Amazing first experience this past Sunday! 11/10 on the service and quality of food. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Our cocktails were also super yum - highly recommend a gin gimlet. My raviolis were to die for along with the appetizers we had. We had a party of 10 and they made it so special for my friend's birthday! Thank you to the great staff, ambiance and chefs!

The charcuterie board was absolutely amazing. It looks as good as it tastes like wowwwww it was amazing absolutely amazing. However our actual pastas did take a long time to come out honestly and they were good I won't say it was bad. The Justin Bieber pasta was really good, but I felt like the sauce was kind of missing something maybe like a spice or something like that and the thickness of the dough kind of overpowered the actual taste. I got the Bolognese and it was pretty good. Just a standard Bolognese, but I think the pasta was really fresh tasting, and the waiter did not skim out on the parm haha overall nice I would come back for a lunch!!

Came here for a friends birthday. In terms of ambience, it's very charming and fancy. A great place for pictures on a dinner night. The service... wasn't really there. It took an hour for our waiter to take our order and even then trying to get someone's attention took a lot of effort. After we ordered it took a long time to get our food. We were sat right in the middle of the inside restaurant so it's not like we were in a hidden area. We were there till closing because of how long we had to wait. It's really disappointing because I was looking forward to this place. However the food is tasty. I wouldn't say amazing, but it's well prepared pasta. A bunch of us got the "Justin Bieber Pasta" basically the one he orders when he comes here so they named it after him. It's okay, more on the salty and bitter side. I don't think we would order it again. Their truffle pasta is great though. It was done very well, and the pasta itself felt like such high quality. The pricing is on the higher side for the truffle pastas, but it is rich in terms truffle. I'd say it's worth a try.

Located in the heart of Beverly Hills, Il Pastaio is a terrific Italian restaurant that is always packed with guests. You definitely need a reservation here if you come on the weekend for dinner. You'll see all the people on the sidewalk waiting for their table. I love the pastas and the service is stellar. This is the kind of place where everyone in our party orders something different and we all get to try each other's dish. We've always sat outside which is great because you can people watch. If it's cold, they have heaters available. The celebs love this place, too, but you may never see them as they get a special room inside, away from the prying eyes of the public. Their vodka pasta is named after one guy who really loves it, someone named Beiber. Mangia!

This place has been around for such a long time now and it's endured the test of time. Whereas other Italian restaurants in the area have failed such as Prego or Bice, which used to be a stone's throw from Il Pastaio, Il Pastaio still stands. It's vibrant and it's the people who make up this restaurant. You might see a star drop by, but it's the people watching as well as the pasta that makes this restaurant good. Caveat: Just be careful as some patrons tend to wear too much perfume at this place which might encroach upon your fish or your pasta and it's aroma(as tables are on the smaller side), which is why my pasta go-to is elsewhere . Nevertheless, I still love this place for the memories . BH 90210, baby! read more

Great place! We had an infant and they gave us a corner. Service was good. Love the truffle pastas. Drinks were good too. Espresso martini was delicious. Experienced great service despite the fact we had a a baby and that we were foreign and Asian. You will be surprised at how places like Pasadena that would be a problem. read more

This restaurant is completely overhyped by people, and overpriced! The only reason I'm even giving it 2 stars (which is generous) is because they have an excellent location (when you sit outside on the patio) and they have one good dish (the beef carpaccio). Everything else is "meh," and my mom makes pasta better than any dishes I have tried here. It's instagram-friendly, and people love saying they're eating here because it's textbook "Beverly Hills," but there are many better Italian options within walking distance of this place: La Scala, Il Fornaio, Cecconi's, to name a few. Also, the waiters are probably the most consistent group of staff at a restaurant I have experience while living and growing up in Beverly Hills. Would not recommend to anyone unless they simply want a good carpaccio and nice views on a sunny day in the city. read more

Omg! My dream came true!! I finally came to try t truffle pasta!!! It was beyond delicious!!! I also tried the Osso Buco substituting the rice for mash potatoes it was so good! Food is good as is their service. Parking is not provided but there is street parking and a lot nearby. Many people love this place. I think it is good but not exception to their price. More of a place you come to enjoy the atmosphere/aura. Some of the highlights of their menu include their chopped salad, caprese salad, and their Justin Bieber pasta. read more

We picked this restaurant for Valentine's Day. The place is super authentic: atmosphere, food, and waiters. I fell in love in their risotto nero. It's SO delicious! It's full of tender seafood, has rich aroma, and just melts in your mouth. I wouldn't say the same about their soups (minestrone and lentils) or grilled chicken. Il Pastaio used to be our favorite place in the Beverly Hills area, but that has all changed from our latest visit this past week. The worst part was the service from our waiter which was non existent. He did not get our drinks on time and when our white wine arrived it was warm. He never bothered to check on us to see if we needed anything and did not even come by to ask if we wanted dessert. We had to find someone else to pay and get out of there. As for the food, the calamari was a total disappointment being non breaded and rubbery that we had to send it back. The bread was the best part of our meal. My wife ordered the pasta with lobster but the dish had so much crab pieces that it rendered the taste of the sauce in a strange tasting and very watery. I ordered the black truffle pasta tagliolini and it arrived dry with dried parmigiana sauce on the plate as if it were sitting around in the kitchen. This used to be my favorite dish there. The restaurant had lots of waiters running around serving tables but ours was absent throughout the dining experience we are from Italy and have dined all over the world at the very best restaurants but we feel this place has just turned into a tourist trap restaurant with no attention to customer service. read more

I'm a plane Jane when it comes to food so I decided to get the chicken Alfredo which they did not have so our waiter made a special request to have that made for me. Thank you! Accidentally bumped into this place after an exhausting yet exciting day at Disney. It was such a pleasant surprise. The fairy light and ambient lighting made the outdoor seating area all the more lovely. We had a classy Beverly Hill experience. Dining here capped our day with an unforgettable touch. Barramundi: The steak was was cordially recommended by our server and it was a wonderful addition to our table. The steak was finely chopped and lightly seasoned to preserve its already rich flavour. I would highly recommend. Agnolotti: The green ravioli was easily my favourite dish with its buttery, creamy cheese flavour. The flavour was thoroughly soaked through the dough and made the dish a delicacy to taste. Highly recommend! Mango sorbet & Salad: they are more on the mediocre side. read more

Consistently excellent, well presented and executed Italian. The service can be a bit slow, but the quality, elegance and refinement are there. This restaurant shouldn't be remarkable but given the prevailing low quality of food in Los Angeles, it is. If it were in an affluent part of San Francisco or New York, it would be a Zagat 24 (4.4 on the new scale). read more

It was a busy Saturday night. We waited a hour and a half. I surly can say it really worth the visit. I was more than impressed with the experience I had here. I was in the restaurant on Saturday with 5 friends. It was a horrible experience. - Staff was very rude and impolite. They threw the plates- foods and rolled their eyes!!!! When we asked for water, it was like we asked the staff to do a favor for us!! Horrible service with lots of bad attitude. The lobster pasta smelled awful. They charges 18% gratuity without asking!! - Food was very low quality and few of us got food poisoning and very upset stomach!!!! - There wasn't any manager to speak with and handle the situation or to say sorry at least! Every time I arrive to Los Angeles this is my stop . Absolutely delicious food , friendly staff , great ambiance often times you may capture a few celebrities who may either sit next to you or across the table . I start w/ the truffle pasta as an appetizer, my main entree is the whole fish which melts in your mouth this all wash's down with Peroni . I would recommend calling ahead or if decide to arrive without reservations tipping the host can also help with seating accommodations . A must try ! Enjoy read more

I went here on Sunday, October 14, 2018. The location is ideal for people watching. My dinner partner and I sat outside. We ordered the beef carpaccio, which was phenomenal. It melted like butter in my mouth. I ordered the handmade pasta with black truffles. I expected to give a raving review. It was $55. I enjoyed the black truffles but the pasta was just okay. My dinner partner ordered the green noodles with venison, which was a bit gamey. Service was excellent. Our water glasses were always filled and the server was attentive. read more

Without a doubt, the best pasta in Boulder. To my knowledge, it's really the only Italian restaurant with housemade pasta. I don't know why other restaurants in Boulder haven't realized that housemade pasta has become a standard in Italian-American cooking. Food is always delicious, and the staff is very friendly. I would recommend this restaurant over just about any other in Boulder. read more

Love love love love love this place! Delicious salads, pastas, entrees, so much more. The only downside is they stopped making reservations, but that doesn't stop us from going. We've hosted parties in the beautiful private room as well. Can't wait to go back! read more

Love everything about Il Pastaio, who wouldn't. Every dish I've had from here has been nothing but fantastic. Last night I tried the Paccheri all Justin Bieber and it was my dream pasta dish. I also highly recommend the Mezzelune and the Ravioli di Spinaci E Ricotta. The staff is extremely professional and friendly, and it is always a pleasure to go here. read more

Food was great, however, my mother's purse was stolen at dinner on Friday night. A man came in off the street, walked over to our table, and stole her jumbo chanel bag. It was busy and the tables are close together so no one saw the man come it, but we saw the video footage. The restaurant staff were very nice to us and sent us over dessert and prosecco after the police left. A nice man sitting behind us picked up our dinner tab since we had no credit cards. We thought it was so wrong of the restaurant to even accept his payment. Our bill for 2 people was probably 140 bucks. What an awful weekend in LA. read more

Service was not good. Servers where taking long to bring drinks and food. All three servers where all in a circle tally away instead of being attentive to the patrons. Our server was way over the top with his interaction with us. We definitely did not need all of that. read more

Boyfriend and I went in to celebrate our anniversary. The staff seemed flustered and understaffed. We were seated promptly and then never checked up on after our meal came. Ordered the homemade pasta on the cheese wheel tagliolini. Waiters seemed uninterested and could care less. Amazing food terrible service. read more

Great hidden gem, love getting their lasagna! Went her for a friends birthday a couple days ago, hAd a blast! Would recommend reservations as they do get busy. Super lovely ambience. *UPDATE* Went in to get the lasagna and apparently it had pork all this time... although last time I was there the server was 1000% sure to "take the pork out" however this time they said that it was not possible... I think servers should know the menu inside out and such a thing could really get them in trouble. Keeping 2 stars for the the ambience, and pizza! Make sure to double and triple check with your server about what's in each dish to avoid any allergies. read more

Very nice location in Beverly Hills. Reasonably priced for the area (spent about $110 for appetizer, two dinner plates, and one glass of wine). The owner/chef is super nice and ordered dinner for us. (Secretly wish he didn't because I really wasn't a fan of what he chose for us). To start we had the corn cheese mushroom Soufflé. Tasted like fancy grits, it was really good. I had the linguine with crab meat and lobster tail. Two people can eat this plate. SO MUCH FOOD. My boyfriend had the venison pasta. All was very well made and presented. If I come back I'll take the more traditional route and order spaghetti and meatballs instead. read more

I'm a college student, so my friends and I don't usually come to fancier, upscale restaurants like Il Pastaio. However, after a gruelling year, we decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner here. The restaurant was really busy when we arrived, but we had made a reservation so we thought it would be fine. Unfortunately, the hostess did not greet us at all and proceeded to ignore us and talk to other people who came in after us until we got her attention after about 10 minutes. Then, she told us to wait outside until we could be seated, which took about 20 or 30 minutes. To be honest, she was probably the rudest, haughtiest hostess that I had ever met. Luckily, the rest of the experience went a lot smoother. The waiter was really kind, and the food was delicious. After enjoying some bread with olive oil and balsamic as an appetizer, we were served our mains. I had the Mezzelune: ravioli stuffed with shrimps and scallops, covered in lobster sauce and zucchini. The seafood flavours provided the perfect amount of umami and made for some of the best ravioli I've had. Ultimately, Il Pastaio has delicious, authentic Italian food, but the rude service I've received here makes me hesitant to come back. If you're looking for an over-priced and annoying Italian restaurant for take-out dinner, look no further: Il Pastaio is perfect for you. After ordering online, they sent us a text saying our food was ready for pick-up (it wasn't), kept us waiting over 15 minutes (along with many others awaiting orders), had a rude maitre d' who had "no idea" what the hold-up was (and didn't apologize once), and ultimately provided a costly dinner with a side-order of frustration and fury. There's nowhere to pull up for curbside pick up and they don't deliver so you're literally at their mercy. NEVER AGAIN! There are far too many other good Italian restaurants in LA that are pleasant to their patrons and don't keep you waiting without explanation. AND which might even apologize for their ineptitude. No plate of pasta is so delicious that this kind of treatment is worth it. UPDATE, PLEASE READ: I was contacted personally by the chef/owner and had a very long pleasant conversation about my unfortunate experience. He was absolutely appalled by it, took notes, called employees into his office while I was on the phone, explained every detail of his operation to me, and has promised (although I didn't ask for or require it) to send me a certificate. You may have noticed that I didn't complain about the food, just the service: Il Pastaio is in fact delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal even if we were made extremely cranky about the process! read more

Gourmet Magazine calls il Pastaio "a taste of heaven," and says" the cooks in il Pastaio's kitchen have angel's hands." Los Angeles Magazine critic's choice ranked it "one of the top ten new restaurants." It's no wonder this friendly neighborhood trattoria has been a favorite meeting place, satisfying locals and visiting customers with its mouthwatering pasta since opening in 1994. Handmade on the premises, pasta is the star of this restaurant. Master chef Celestino Drago and his brother, Executive Chef/Partner Giacomino Drago have designed the menu around pasta as the main course. "We want the customers to feel comfortable like their at home," says Giacomino. And many guests take him at his word, showing up daily for some of the best risottos and pasta dishes in town. Try the rich pheasant and mushroom ragu over spinach pappardelle ribbons or the black squid ink risotto that L.A. Weekly says "looks like gravel and tastes like heaven".

We politely asked if she could check with the manager. She went to speak with him, returned, and again told us no. While we were still waiting, another party of four arrived and was seated at those exact tables after they were pushed together. I approached the manager and asked why this had happened. He explained that the other guests had been seated elsewhere first, but because the music was too loud for them, they were moved. I asked why an exception was made for them while our identical request had been denied. His response was, "I have never seen you here." That answer was both irrelevant and unprofessional. Whether someone is a first time guest or a loyal customer, everyone deserves to be treated with the same level of respect and fairness especially with elderly person present. The entire situation was handled poorly by both the hostess and the manager. After years of enjoying this restaurant, it is incredibly disappointing to leave feeling dismissed and unwelcome. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

From the valet and doorman to the hosts, bartenders, servers, runners, the GM Joshua, and the entire staff, the service was exceptional. Everyone was polite, professional, welcoming, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. On our first visit, we walked in on a busy weekend without a reservation, and Joshua went out of his way to work us in and get us a table so we could enjoy dinner. That level of hospitality really stood out. On our most recent visit, we weren't happy with the table options that were initially available, so we decided to wait at the bar and have a drink. The staff (Sara) couldn't have handled it better. They came over with a smile, kept us updated on the next available tables, and never once made us feel like we were being difficult. Sara ended up getting us a great table, and the entire experience was handled with kindness and professionalism. To be honest, we're pretty picky, especially about where we sit, and she was incredibly patient, friendly, and accommodating throughout the evening. The food was outstanding. One thing I really appreciate is that everything comes out sizzling hot, exactly the way it should. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the au gratin potatoes were absolutely delicious. Overall, the quality was top-notch. You truly get what you pay for here. Service is a huge deal to us, and Steak 48 consistently delivers. We'll definitely be back, and I can honestly say this will become one of our regular spots. Joshua, you've built an outstanding team and are running a first class operation. Keep up the great work.

Octopus was scrumptious. 5) prime rib cut 4.5/5: there is no choice of doneness here but it was good. 6) steak salad 4.5/5: salad had a good vinegary taste that paired well with the steak. The house-made pastas were each cooked to perfection and showcased the kitchen's exemplary technique and care. We also shared the Fagiolo, Peperone, and Patate as vegetable sides, and each one was excellent. We concluded our meal with a trio of house-made gelati for a sweet finish. The sweet cream and pistachio flavors were both especially memorable and well worth saving a little room for. Proteins - Their steak was vey tender, but the meat itself lacked flavor. Halibut was dry and didn't have any interesting flavor. So you can skip halibut for sure. Overall, I'd rate 3.5/5 for food. As for the service, it's 3/5 as they were decent enough, but not so attentive even though our drinks and water were empty. It's definitely good for date or business meal though as it has a nice ambiance. I'd give 4/5 for that. Would I come back? Sure, but I don't have to be a repeater of this restaurant to be honest as there are many other restaurants with similar quality (if not better) of food for more reasonable price.

Sides didn't redeem the experience either, infact the lobster mac and cheese, in particular, was shockingly bad. It tasted like microwaved Kraft with a tiny, almost nonexistent piece of lobster. Our favorite item on the menu was the bread basket and bone marrow. Even dessert fell flat, which is rare to mess up but somehow still happened. For a group of self-proclaimed food lovers, this was genuinely surprising -- and not in a good way. There are far better options at this price point. Steak 48 easily outshines Mastro's in both quality and execution, and even BOA along with BLVD deliver a more consistent and enjoyable experience. Overall, a VERY disappointing night and absolutely not worth the price point. You're better off literally in any steakhouse but this one.

I used to be there many time with my boss, with my boss `s family and everything was just perfect! My boss is a doctor who has an office in Golden Triangle, they know him very well. Yesterday I was with my bf. Everything was different. Waiter give us menu and run away at the same second. I do not need this menu, i know it, and i knew what i want. Why did he gave menu and run? I was about to make an order but he was already gone. He didn`t ask us what we would like to drink (from alcohol). Then after some time passed we decided to order wine. I told the waiter i would like wine, and i was about to order wine. But after i said i would like wine he said ok and disappered. Then he brought wine menu and I was about to order, I knew what i want, but he run away so fast! Then he finally came to ask what wine we would like, and we made an order for wine, which we could have made 15minutes ago!!! So we had to have our prosutto without wine. Prosutto was old, not fresh. They supposed to put some honey on bread but they didn`t. I ordered salad Caprichossa. They brought, salad was gooood! I always loved it! But what happened with the size of meal? Why did it became so small? Then they brought my chicken. It was impossible to eat. Chicken was raw, potatoes was made in some old bitter oil, just disgusting, sorry but true. And size of meal!! Just one small piece of chicken and 2 (!!!) little pieces of potatoes, and 2 or 3 (!!!) little vegetables. Cost more then $20. Melting under waiter`s look I started to explain why i can not eat this. He was looking at me so from up to down!!! I felt that i am doing such a horrible thing because of how he was looking at me. Okey, I live in US just 3years, English is my seconfd language, might be i haven`t learn yet all frases how to explain this situation extremely polite, but he shouldn`t look at me like this! He shouldn`t put me down by his look! His job to make my being in the restaurant comfortable! Then i got fillet mingon, delicious! Very good! And then again with desert, I knew what desert I want. But i didn`t get chance to order, we brought menu and run away, then he came back and we finally order. Their panacotta is very good! But why are they running away so quickly after they brought menu? It`s an Italian restaurant, life in Italy is slow. And waiter pretend he is Italian, or might be he is, but why he was looking at me so mean, so from up to down? and why service was so bad? I can say that throughout many restaurant visits to many low end, mid end, mom and pop, and the way to the spagos, mr chows, and mastros of the world I have never been subjected to such horrible service on such an important day. My wife and I had our first valentines last week at this establishment with our best man and maid of honor. Arrived for a 10:30 pm at 10:15 and were not seated until 10:45 pm. The lady who was serving us was a blonde short haired Italian that spoke Italian fluently which is a problem because I don't care to speak or understand italian. They told me in school to study Italian but for some reason i skipped it...oops. Next up the tables are so crammed inside that you are bumped every single time a server passes by. Next up we order Calamari and it is a quarter of a huge plate with no sense of presentation, I felt the romance in the air immediately. Next up I order the con crastacei. Don't care to find the right spelling but it's half lobster with a crab sauce. My pasta was over cooked, my wife's was over cooked. On top of that I flip that lobster around to find only half of the half lobster on the plate. I show it to the lady who then takes my plate to the chef, turns right around and brings it back puts it on the table and tells me that's how it's supposed to be. So I order half a lobster and I get half the tail of half the lobster. So a 1/4 of the lobster. Not even. Tasted hideous, poorly put together. And the icing on the cake cake when we got the check. I normally put 10% for cheap as crap service, 15 for good, 20 for excellent. This deserved nothing but I still opted for 10%. My best man had half the check and put 15%. The lady takes the check book opens it up right next to us as we're taking pictures, rants in Italian and leaves for the register. You all have become legends...one of a kind examples, of the worst Italian restaurant in SoCal. That means something and I hope you wear that honor proudly. I've been seeing this place online for a long time. A lot of influencers post it. I was out there for a quick errand and decided I'd love to try it. I was dressed very casual. Biker shirts, a tee shirt and some sandals. So was my sister. Leggings, a crop top, and some sandals. The food was amazing but the way they treated us based on how we were dressed was completely unacceptable and I will not be returning bc of the customer service we received. It was 1pm on a week day. I didn't expect to eat there, I just sort of decided once I realized we were near by. Either way, it says casual dressing. There was a table of girls next to us who were dressed up with designer, and looked really cute. They got there after us and got helped out before us and even got their food and everything before we did. They got completely different service than us. First of all, our waiter didn't even tell us he was leaving. He got us our drinks and we proceeded to wait for 30 minutes until someone else came to ask if we were ready to order. Mind you the table next to us already had their drinks refilled, plus appetizers and they got there after us. We ordered our appetizers and our main dish together bc we were just ready to go. No one came to check in on us at all. My drink wasn't refilled until I flagged someone down. No one asked if we needed anything. Not even once. I have never felt such discriminating behavior towards my sister and I. After we asked for our bill, so did the table next to us, they got their bill right away and we proceeded to wait another 10 minutes for us and ANOTHER gentleman brought it out. Honestly my sister and I are firm believers in good tipping. We always tip ridiculously good and we always treat employees with respect wherever we go. It is really upsetting that just because we weren't all dressed in designer or had a specific presentation, we were treated completely different than the ppl around us. I'm struggling with whether I should keep this review or not, because I loved the food but hated the service and the disrespectful server. Great Food, Awful Service. We were so excited for our dinner here last Monday. We'd heard such great things, and the place did not disappoint... visually. We were seated in a beautiful room with olive trees and twinkly lights, and even though it was pouring rain outside, it felt like a cozy, magical little oasis. The room was packed with a great energy, people were having a blast. Unfortunately, we can't say the same. Our server, a short Italian guy with glasses, completely ruined the experience for our table. From the get-go, he was dismissive, had a high temper, which we thought was rude, and seemed completely overwhelmed. There was a large table in the center of the room, and it was painfully obvious that's where all his attention was going. We felt like an afterthought because we weren't spending as much money. Our server would rush through his lines, and then disappear for 20 minutes. He was constantly looking at his digital watch, not to check the time, but like he was scrolling through notifications. It felt so unprofessional, like we were not important and interrupting his very busy schedule. One of the worst part was the feeling of being ignored first and then rushed later. He dropped the check and he literally stared as we were choosing the tip. It was so uncomfortable that made my skin crawl. We couldn't wait to get out of there, which is a tragedy because the food was fantastic. It's a real shame. The ambience and food are clearly top-notch, the owners must have spent a huge deal in making this place amazing, but one bad server can spoil it all and make it all go to waste. Il Pastaio is a true Beverly Hills staple and one of those restaurants that has been part of the Canon Drive scene for years. I used to come here much more frequently, but after the "Richard Mille" watch incident during Covid, I honestly stopped coming as often. After my most recent visit, though, I can confidently say I'll be adding it back into the rotation because the service was absolutely amazing. For Beverly Hills, I actually think the pricing here is very fair. Pasta dishes are expensive pretty much everywhere now, especially in this area, but for the location, quality, and overall experience, Il Pastaio still feels like a really good value. The restaurant is also known for its celebrity history, especially Justin Bieber coming here, and they even have the Paccheri Bieber named after him. Naturally, I had to order "Justin Bieber's" dish, the Paccheri Bieber, and it was excellent. We started with the bread, which has a small charge of around $3, and then I had a margarita while my guest had a glass of wine. For entrees, I had the Paccheri Bieber and my guest ordered the spinach ravioli. We finished with the tiramisu for dessert. Everything was amazing from start to finish. The highlight of the experience was our waiter, Antonio. His hospitality was some of the best I've ever had. He was attentive, warm, and professional without being pushy or trying to make us over order like many places do. Parking is what you would expect for restaurants around Canon: you can valet, look for street parking, or park in one of the nearby structures. Five stars. I loved the place but not the experience!! 80% goes to the guy who handles our table. 20% to the food selection. Super handsome Italian man.. proud of his Italian accent and language. He treat me like I knew the menu ins and out . He was speaking soo fast . His body language, his tonation and his eye didn't sound welcoming at allll. Its very obvious that he doesn't like us from the first few minutes. When I ask about a plate he read the title to me !! I can read it I wanted something to tell me more about the plate than just red it to me. I had to ask questions and some of them are the same , just because I didn't understand him from the first time.. he embarrassed me infront of everyone saying ( I already told you ) so the rest of the table Start to feel the tense of the situation. He was getting more louder and angry. So my husband kinda ended the situation. The whole night I was thinking to talk to a manager to change him .. and I kept it inside me thinking that he might have a rough day or something. I had no intention to write this review . Until I saw him how he is treating the table next to us ,The complete opposite!!! On the other hand, I asked to have the rest of my plate to go. And when I opened the box the next morning it was missing half of the food !!! Im very angry and upset . Lesson learned that from the first few minute if i felt something unwelcoming I ll go to another place worth the business . I spend $370 for 4 people. Wasn't expecting for this services at all. So il pastaio has been one of my favorites for many years. Although I'm not a fan of one of the servers.. I have always gone back. On sunday I went in around 6:15 to have coffee/dessert with a girlfriend. The restaurant was about 40% full both inside and out. My friend walked up to the host which happened to be the manager and asked for a table for two and mentioned we were having tea and dessert. The lady said " Oh sorry, we can't seat you if your not planning on having dinner" I seriously thought she was joking. Keep in mind this is a restaurant I'm at ALL the time. And the manager has seen me there 100%.. I asked her if she was joking and she said "No, were expecting a lot of people and we need to save the tables for people who want to have dinner" I told her we would be 30-40 min but regardless.. they don't take reservations so how did she know how many people she was expecting?????" We left and went to La Scala a few stores up. To test them out i told them we were there for tea/dessert when she asked how many and they were completely fine with it. I probably won't be going back here anytime soon thanks to their manager :) read more

I had a very disappointing experience with the service and food here. I made a reservation and specifically requested a high chair in the notes. However, when we arrived, the server informed us there were too many kids that day, so we wouldn't be getting one. Midway through our meal, he brought us a high chair, but it was filthy--covered in food residue with no attempt to clean or wipe it down. We had to clean it ourselves. The service overall was inattentive. The server never checked on us, and when I ordered a Diet Coke and requested refills twice, nothing was brought until I asked for the check. The food was also disappointing. The calamari was soggy, wet, and overly oily. It wasn't even served with proper cocktail sauce, just plain tomato pasta sauce, which felt like an afterthought. The black truffle pasta was overcooked and lacked the texture or quality I expected. The experience left much to be desired. While the food was edible, it was far from exceptional, and the poor service completely overshadowed the meal. We came to Il Pastaio to celebrate a little victory, and it ended up being one of the most memorable meals we've had in Beverly Hills. We requested a patio table for an early evening reservation, and it was perfect, lively people-watching without feeling chaotic. The burrata was creamy and soft, Paccheri in pink sauce lived up to its reputation! Our server, Sacarra, really elevated the experience! He walked us through the menu, gave great recommendations, suggested a red wine that paired well with both dishes, and checked in at just the right moments without hovering. You could tell he genuinely knew the food and cared about the experience. Professional, friendly, and very polished. We ended the meal by sharing tiramisu and panna cotta. Il Pastaio manages to feel upscale without being pretentious. The food tastes authentic, service is impeccable, polished but warm, and the atmosphere is perfect for date nights or celebrations. Extremely Disappointing Experience -- Unauthorized Charges & Food Illness I stopped at Il Pastaio on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, with my sister after a long meeting, hoping to treat ourselves. Unfortunately, the experience was the opposite of relaxing. We were seated outside by a new Italian waiter who was noticeably rude from the start. We ordered a veggie salad and the veal plate. When the bill came, I drew a line through the tip section and wrote "cash," then left a 20% tip in cash. Later, I discovered the server added an extra $21 to my card, giving himself a $41 tip. That is completely unacceptable and feels like theft. To make matters worse, both my sister and I became very sick after eating the veal. I reached out to the restaurant by phone and email, but they showed no concern and made no effort to address the situation. For a place in Beverly Hills, where I was born and raised, it's sad to see such disregard for patrons. read more

Stopped by yesterday for lunch. The Mahi Mahi was prepared perfectly, my vegetables were fresh and delicious. The seating was a little crowded and I am glad we knew someone at the bar or we probably would be still waiting to find a seat. The price was a little high, $80 for lunch with no booze, just food, but when you try to put a price on people watching.. then the value for your dollar goes way up. What is up with the bad plastic surgery??? With all that money - nobody can afford a mirror??? I am no prince charming, but (and I am not trying to be mean) the lady next to our table.. if she had one more face lift her ears would meet on the back of her head... While we were having lunch one of the Beverly Hills Housewives had called her PR person to inform the paparazzi that she would be having lunch....yea, it was a typical photo opp.. The food IS special here, and as a fun place to eat lunch, give it a try. read more

I have only written one other review on a restaurant, but when you tell the owner of a restaurant how disappointing my meal was, and he was so arrogant and could care less what I had to say, I felt it necessary to write this. We ate at Il Pastalio tonight. The "Parma" prosciuto,(of which there are 100 producers) was stringy and difficult to eat, I had to complain. I had the 1/2 pound lobster pasta, which was so overly sauced and not good, with a shell of lobster tail in which the tail lobster when shelled, was as much as a large shrimp, and the lobster was west coast, and did not come with a claw, I was upset. When Drago came to the U.S. and had his first restaurant on Beverly Drive in L.A. he tried hard and his restaurant was good, especially the seafood pasta in parchment. His success along with his brothers, in my opinion, is not at all deserved, and he has totally taken advantage of his patrons read more

My recent experience at **Il Pastaio** was incredibly disappointing. The restaurant seemed severely **understaffed**, leading to poor service. Our waitress took an unbelievable **29 minutes** to come and take our order, and after that, the drinks took another **15 minutes** to arrive. I had ordered a glass of wine, which she completely **forgot**, and when I inquired about it, she denied I ever ordered it and even started to **argue** with me about it. It was clear she was trying to manage far too many tables, which meant we were constantly **overlooked**. To make matters worse, I requested a side of balsamic, which she also **forgot**. Considering the **premium prices** Il Pastaio charges, this level of service is simply **unacceptable**. I have been having lunch here 2 times per week for the past 3 years and having dinners here approximately 2 nights per month.. safe to assume that I have been a regular. The food is REALLY GREAT and authentic. The desserts are PHENOMENAL! However, Giacamino's ego has been spiraling as his business has spiraled. He has raised his price for a simple Pasta by about 35% in 2 years. He plays games by making the SAME DISH on his regular menu and then serving it on a holiday and raising the price dramatically. (just because it is Father's Day or Mother's Day, etc) We put up with price increases because all things eventually increase, but he is getting too big for his britches. Additionally, he panders to terribly rude people.. Suddenly, the place looks like little Tehran ! Basta ! I am finished with this place. Too bad because the food is nice. read more
