I have been to this place all the ways that you can go. What do I mean by that? I mean I have been there for happy hour, dinner, and late night. The atmosphere is great. There are plenty of TVs so it's ideal if there is a game that you want to keep your eye on. Its Irish but chic! What I really like about it is the crowd. It's a refreshing place to go for a drink as a young professional since Howard tends to be crawling with college students, people who still wish they were college students and people who want to hit on college students. For dinner I recommend the boxty appetizer if you're willing to pay for it in the gym later. This appetizer is delicious in only the way a fried ball of mashed potatoes can be. It comes with 3 fist sized balls of mashed potatoes that are panko breaded and fried. The manager told his that he had these in a pub in Boston and new he had to bring them here. I think the mashed potatoes could be a little more flavorful but I tend to be a potato snob. These are definitely worth a try (especially after a night of drinking). My brother had a burger that he said was cooked to perfection. I shared the sheperd's pie with his girlfriend and we both gave it a thumbs. I could eat the ground beef filling on a chip! It was way to much food for us but that may have been the boxty appetizer. Monday nights they have a business happy hour. There is live music and 2 raffles, one for cash and one for booze. The drink specials weren't really memorable. I think it was like $4 wells and $3.50 beers. It was a lot of fun though. As I said earlier, if you are a young professional that isn't looking to wake up in a pool of your own vomit on a Tuesday morning then you will enjoy coming here. I would say the typical crowd is in the 25-35 age range. The music was actually really good and even with a packed crowd the service was great. I hope that Jay Mize has something going here. I would love to see a Hyde Park revival. Tampa has a major gap for the young professional crowd that Hyde Park is perfectly suited to fill. There a couple of reasons give the Irish 5 stars. First, that the outside tables that have the swing stools are really uncomfortable so if you can find other seating, grab it! Next, the prices are too high for me to make it a regular spot. And most importantly, the wine list is lacking. I'm sure they thought that they are an Irish pub and they need beer and whiskey but this isn't Ireland. It's South Tampa and people are serious about their wine here. It's a great little pub and sports bar. The pretzels and Mac and Cheese bites are great! I also love the Pie of the Shepherd!

Anxious to try after reading online about the over half pound corned beef Reuben for $11. Got there to find out the website has not been updated for a couple years and the reuben MIGHT have had a quarter lb of meat on it and was $16. After complaining to the Mgr he did take it off the bill but it would have been $50 for a burger, a Reuben and two $4 beers. Definitely not worth it!! read more

I had never been to Irish 31 until recently, even though I am in Hyde Park Village frequently. I made a stop here this week and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is pretty nice, not too loud but not really quiet either. There are always a lot of people at the bar. The food was pretty tasty and I really love the patio. I didn't get to try much on the menu but I'll be back for a second take on this one soon! I know they do a running club which sounds like a blast. read more

This place was so fun and yum. Mom and dad were pretty tired and pretty hungry, as was I, when we shuffled in. We lucked out with a small table by the windows, which offered the option to pull down the shade. That was great because mom needed to feed me and I'm easily distracted. Despite the activity of the restaurant and fellow patrons cheering on their various teams, I fell asleep for a while. When our waitress set down the famous Irish fried mashed potato balls though, I woke right up! I've tried mashed potato before, and it was not good, but theirs was amazing! Mom said I couldn't have the fried part but she made that part look yummy. Mom got the turkey sandwich with house made chips. When she wasn't looking I grabbed a chip. Tasty! She also shared the avocado from her sandwich with me. We both got pretty messy. Dad loved his meal too, but didn't share with me. The waitress was really nice and brought us lots of napkins. Wings are good and some staff is good.... But always the worst experience on football sundays.... For the 3rd time in a row, they will change games people are watching for a New York game that they claim some guy 3 blocks down the street with his back turned is somehow watching it even though it's never the case.... It's definitely the worst game watching procedure I've ever been to... I've heard such great things about Irish 31 and decided to try it out to catch some football and grab some lunch. We had the buffalo flatbread, macho nachos and boneless wings. None of them disappointed! The food was brought out in a timely manner and our server, Micaela did an amazing job of giving us suggestions and bringing refills whenever she noticed we were running low. Atmosphere was great. My chicken was over salted ( even after I said I wanted no salt) AND one of the two breasts was undercooked and not edible for safely reasons. I did eat the cooked breadt and told them about the raw one and they gave me a 10% discount on my bill which is an embarrassment. Irish 31 is located in the Hyde Park district right off of Swan Ave. The place has a nice atmosphere with a great vibe. Even though I had a to go order I sat and waited and just observe the atmosphere. Place can get pretty congested. Also the parking is kinda crazy but that's normal on a Friday night. Now to the food. I ordered 17 wings to go. 10 mild and 7 garlic parmesan ( no charge for different flavors). The wings were crispy and very flavorful. The wife said the needed more sauce but I disagree. Next time I come back l would like to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere with a cold one!!! read more

Usually a great place but it's St. Patrick Day ! It's 3 pm and the kitchen is closed because they are understaffed As per the servers. Here's an idea tell your staff that on St. Patty's day nobody can call in and be prepared for the overflow. Went there on Thursday around 6 pm. Sat inside near the open window at the bar. They have to do something about the volume of the guy playing live music outside on deck. The place is not that big and he had the volume up so loud people had to yell to talk. I don't under stand why small places crank the music. They guy was great but turn it down this isn't a night club. I did ask bartender but she said she has no control over it. One is Westshore does same thing and it's inside. Management needs to address this. Music doesn't have to be loud for it to be good. read more

I've been going to the restaurant in Wesley Chapel for the past few years. I've always enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the people. Unfortunately, that ended on my last visit. My wife always orders a salad and she enjoys having a lot of dressing on her meal. So, she always asks for additional dressing. I usually don't look at the bill, but this time I did. To my surprise they charged me 50 cents for additional dressing! I was shocked! And, to the say the least, very disappointed. I've never seen this charge from any other restaurant and I don't think it could have cost them more that 5 cents for any extra dressing. Sorry Irish 31 but you lost a customer with that. read more

Irish 31 is located off Swann next to Cinebistro in the heart of old Hyde Park District and serves as a low key alternative to the hustle and bustle of the Soho Irish Pubs, just 3 blocks away, with a slightly older crowd in their 30s and 40s. This place has a small outdoor patio with table seating and was pretty low key. The bartender told me they have live music on weekend nights. The pub's Irish 31 Red Ale is always only $3 and is pretty good. The waitress mentioned they also have $3 stoli vodka drinks, draft specials, and quite the number of other drink specials. The inside of the restaurant is smaller than average in size with a variety of high tops and booths but there was no wait for a table. That should've been the first red flag. Cons: Irish 31's TV's are a bit too small and spaced out too far apart, so they're not ideal for watching a game. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by Irish 31's lack of traditional Irish options on the menu. Traditional Irish Bangers and mash? Nope, all they have is Bangers and Boxty and Shepherds pie boxty. Theyre obsessed with boxty which is fried breaded mash potatoes. The boxty sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen so I steered clear of that. I noticed the king sized shepherds pie is bit overpriced at $16 compared to other Irish restaurants in the area. My buddy got the grilled chicken hummus wrap for $10 and I got the 31 bacon cheeseburger for $11. I was dissapointed they couldn't even include fries or a side salad with their no frills burger instead of chips. Fries are a $2 upcharge which is normally included and a side salad was $4 extra. I asked them to sautee the onions on my burger and they forgot. I was going to let it slide, but they were charging me extra for it. The burger itself was smaller than the average restaurant burger and the way they put small onions and tomatoes on the burger instead of big round ones, the veggies kept falling out of the burger and the buns weren't sturdy enough to grasp the burger. The burger ended up being quite a messy meal. I usually never complain about service, but the service wasn't the best due to the waitress forgetting the onions and having to wait on drinks. If you want to have an average no frills quiet American style meal, nontraditional Irish food, or some drinks in a chill spot, come here. If you want a larger variety of authentic Irish food with more Irish options, go to Maloneys in Channelside or Four Green fields off Platt near Bayshore. read more

I stopped in after the last Hyde Park Music Series event. The place was packed and they had great live music going on out on the patio. The burger I had was great and yes I would've ordered some fish & chips, but those aren't on the menu. The burger was great and the chips that came with it were excellent. They could've used some seasoning, but hey no problem. Another thing that blew my mind...was a bar with IRISH in the name, only had one cider...and that cider - Woodchuck. Not Magner's...Not Strongbow...but Woodchuck. LAME. I mean it's a IRISH bar folks. Ok, at least they have one cider, but it kind of showed me where the owners are coming from. The bathroom at this place is pretty nice. It was even kept nice on the super busy night I was there. The sink is actually really cool looking, but you do have to touch it to turn it on and off...probably not the best idea at a bar LOL. If you want to watch a game...this place has more TV's per sq foot than anyplace I've seen in Tampa. Nice work there. Will I come back...? I'm sure I'll be back. I went to Irish 31 with my wife to watch the Gators. There were tons of TVs, so seeing the game was not a problem. We initially wanted to sit outside as it wasn't too hot that day, but the booths/benches are kind of odd. They swing out from the table, and it was kind of rickety, so we went inside. No big deal. There were other types of tables outside but a bunch of people were already using them. The inside is small but comfortable. Three things make me happy about an Irish pub. 1) If they have Smithwicks 2) If they know it is pronounced "Smitticks" and not "Smithwicks" 3) If they have Boxtys A fair amount of pubs have Smithwicks, but I've only been to one other Irish pub in Florida (in Destin) that has boxtys. There might be others, but I haven't seen them. Boxtys are an Irish traditional food made from breaded and deep fried mashed potato (usually leftover) and often served with sauces like horseradish, marinara, or whatever. So needless to say, I saw boxtys on the menu, and promptly ordered them. They were a little larger than others I have had, which made them a little mushier, but still they were AWESOME. There's an Irish saying for women that goes like this: "Boxtys on the griddle, boxtys in the pan, if you can't make a boxty, you'll never keep a man." This is turning into a recitation about my love for boxtys. Anyway, back to Irish 31... I also ordered the Grilled Portobello sandwich, which was good, nothing special, but perfectly fine. The server was super busy because it was packed, but she made sure to check on us frequently. We were there for a long time watching the game, and she made sure our glasses were filled and our plates were cleared. Overall, Irish 31 is an American style Irish pub, perfect for happy hour or watching football. The food is good and you have to get the boxtys if you go. My place of work just relocated to Hyde Park, so I've had a few of their dishes to go in the last few weeks. I can't speak to the service or environment since I've never actually eaten there, but when I've come to pick up my food the girls at the bar are always very friendly. As for the food, I've had the fish and chips, bangers and boxty, shepherds pie, and shrimp and grits. The fish and chips and shepherds pie are my favorites, so so good. The fish is so crispy and not too greasy, and the shepherds pie is just seasoned perfectly and has a cheesy crisp on top of the potatoes. Surprisingly, while I'm always a big fan of shrimp and grits, this was my least favorite dish. Don't get me wrong- it was still good! Just not as good as the other dishes. The shrimp were a little over-cooked and the grits were a little bland. They definitely could have benefited from more cheese and butter, but I like my grits really rich and cheesy. Overall, very impressed with the food and I'm sure I'll get hitting Irish 31 for lunch quite often! read more

I love this spot on the corner of Hyde Park Village; it's got good drinks and great food, plus a large outdoor area with numerous TVs visible. This has been our go-to spot for catching all the Lightning playoff games! I usually hate watching games away from home, mostly because sports bars are infamous for terrible, unhealthy food. Irish 31 has changed this for me! The menu includes several entree salad options that are delicious and filling. My favorite is the Chopped, though the Orchard is also delicious. When I'm looking for typical bar food, Irish 31 has me covered here, too. I love the thick-cut wedge fries and sliders! My only note is that service can be on the slower side, which is fine when I'm watching a long game, but could be troublesome if I were in a hurry. During a recent weekend evening in Hyde Park Village I stopped for a beer at Irish 31 before walking next door to see a late-night showing of Xmen at Cinebistro. The pub was busy but not packed to the rafters, and it was nice to be able to sit at their bar and chat with the friendly bartenders. This pub is clean and well-furnished with lots of flat screen TV's and Irish memorabilia on the walls. The "feel" of this pub is much more like James Joyce or The Pub at International Plaza, and less like MacDinton's. I would describe Irish 31 as classy and cozy versus a giant drunken frat party. The crowd at this location is generally made up of groups of nice people kicking back for some food and drinks, but during Spring Break this place can be filled with some real chest-thumping, d-bag winners. Thankfully that's only a few weeks out of the year, and the rest of the time you can enjoy a relaxed evening while sitting on the patio or inside at the bar. I've never eaten at this Irish 31, though I hear the food is good. t have eaten wings and burgers at their sister location in Westchase, and enjoyed my meals. I'm told they have a great Sunday brunch menu and drink specials, so that's on my radar screen for a future trip. I like the fact that there is a free parking garage directly across the street from Irish 31, and that this bar is right next door to one of my preferred movie theaters. The next time that you're headed to Hyde Park Village, park your car at the free garage along Swann Avenue and then get out and enjoy the neighborhood. Overall not bad for a sports bar. The atmosphere is balanced with both live music outside and multiple screens inside. The service was average, but the server did offer options on the menu that she felt were must-haves for first time patrons. We decided to get beer and starters only. The walls are literally covered with TVs and the energy in the place was high. The beer selection was excellent and the food quality was what I would expect at a bar. I shared some sliders which were just ok. I really should have tried the boxtys and will next time I'm in the area.
