This place is the definition of 5 stars! I went for Valentine's and it was a 2 hour wait without reservations. Well it was the best wait in a restaurant I've ever had. The hostess was friendly and the food runners were even more friendly. We received a complimentary glass of champagne and got to try an appetizer while we waited. When we got to the table we received our food pretty quickly! These people were bussing tables in a matter of seconds! Great customer service! p.s. First time here for brunch I had the Lump crab Benedict it was really really good. The English muffin was to die for!!!

Very good. Service great too. Tried the daily special -the Steak Maui which was a Hawaiian ribeye. Awesome !!!! Also had the calamari as an appetizer. Highly recommend both. This place is very fancy schmancy. Low level lighting and everything and kind of intimate seating. I came here with some co-workers for a celebratory lunch (there were about 6 of us) and they sat us at a booth that could only comfortably seat 5, lol. We had to grab a chair from another table to accommodate us better. The menu is filled with a lot of expensive food (steak, fish, pasta, etc.), and I was tempted to try the steak, but finally settled on the rotisserie roast chicken, that boasted at being half of a chicken. The mashed potatoes that came with it were fantastic. A huge heap of buttery deliciousness that far outshined the taste of the chicken. While the chicken's skin was crisp and flavorful, the chicken itself was sort of bland and dry. I can't get a grasp on how such a fancy place produced dry chicken... To me, moist chicken is the easiest thing to make. I've already realized that I'm a bit of a food snob, but I think that if you're paying almost $20 for chicken, it should be flavorful and moist throughout and not just on the surface. A rotisserie chicken at a grocery is usually much more tender, though the skin isn't as crispy and nice. We also got some chips and cheesy spinach dip, with the chips being insanely (and overly) salted and the dip being warm, creamy and delicious. read more

J Alexanders has always been a favorite of mine. This last visit reflected on the restaurant's need to train their staff a bit better. Service was a bit laid-back/spotty: clanking of glasses, pools of condensation left on the table during the entire meal. The check being dropped directly on the table and not in a tray to avoid sopping up the condensation. I'm pretty accustomed/aware of their service standards and knew that this last visit just wasn't it for me. I'll definitely give you all another visit. I really miss some of their previous servers! My family and I were looking for a dinner restaurant with good food, variety, and ambience so I went to my trusty reference site - Yelp! I used to frequent this place back when it was Houston's and honestly very little of the interior has changed. I liked the varied choices and not-expensive prices. J. Alexander is a multi-location moderate range restaurant. If you like Houston's this won't be a big change for you. The Dunwoody location is spacious and consistent in my experience. These types of places aren't where foodies go out of their way to frequent but if you live in the area and want familiar predictable food for an office lunch or after work meal why not? The ribs I tried were very tender and flavorful. Smashed potatoes full of texture and comfort food flavor. Grouper with mango salsa is a fresh taste for spring and a very tasty lighter option if ribs aren't your bag. The mac and cheese is as good as any. You mac heads need to try this. The white chocolate cheesecake and carrot cake are not to be missed. Take some home for later if you must. The portions are generous here and you may not have room for a full on dessert. Don't let that stop you from doggie bagging it. Service is dependent on who your server is. I've been twice and possibly would return due to convenience of location (location really is everything for repeat business). Nothing has rubbed me wrong but it is borderline forgettable. This is a solid restaurant in Dunwoody and leans more towards "fine dining" then casual, though it could certainly be casual as there's no stuffy dress code or reservations required. The food is excellent and you can choose anything from a hearty hamburger ($12)to a Hawaiian marinated steak ($30). Salads here are also delicious as well as the desert. We splurged and ordered the creme brule and chocolate cake. Drinks averaging around $10-$12 are well executed and very strong. Service is equally wonderful and attentive. The only downside is they do not offer a happy hour because if they did I'd come more often. read more

Perfect meal and service each and every time. This is once place that I can definitely count on for a great meal accompanied by excellent service. Hmmm the fish tacos, calamari, rib eye, mac & cheese are all excellent choices. For dinner with a drink you're looking at about $35/40 plus tax minimum. It is definitely worth it. If you're looking for a place with a $3 drink special and a 2 for $20 dinner special, this is not for you. So I went to this location for a business lunch a few weeks ago. My yelp reminded me that I needed to complete a review from here. That should tell you a little bit something about how maybe this place is. While, I enjoyed the food, and thinking back on it it was OK - I wouldn't call this a place to write home about. The food was of an acceptable quality for the price that was paid, and is in line with other restaurants in that area. If you're in the area and you were preferring not to attend a restaurant that is Asian themed or seafood theme, then this might be just the right answer for your location. Absolutely amazing! The service, the food and the decor is all perfect. This is my second time visiting a J Alexander's. I originally went to the one in Orlando. Loved it so when I found out there was one around my area I had to try it. It did not disappoint. I had the rattlesnake pasta which was phenomenal. My bf had the NY strip with the NYO (not your ordinary) Mac & cheese, which is by far the best Mac & cheese you will have EVER. It was so good that I had to get a side to go! They also had half priced wine bottles so of course we had to try it. We had the Malbec and it was the perfect wine pairing with our food. Overall I will go back to this place for sure. I used to go here often when I lived in Colorado and was happy to know there is one here in Atlanta. My husband and I came here on a Friday evening around 8pm. I called ahead to make a reservation, but when we got there I was surprised to see it wasn't busy at all. We were quickly seated and approached by our waiter. Shortly after being seated we were served nice warm homemade bread and butter...yum! My husband started off with their soup of the day which was a creamy chicken and vegetable soup. It was really good! And I had the Alex salad with blue cheese dressing. Their dressing is amazing as is the salad! It's huge and could be a meal in itself. For our main dishes hubby had the filet mignon, cooked medium with a loaded baked potato. His steak was cooked just how he ordered and said it was good. The butter sauce that it came with on the side didn't have any taste though. I ordered the steak burger and was in pure heaven! Juicy, perfectly cooked and oh so delicious. It came on toasted buttery French bread and a sauce similar to thousand island. I had the mac and cheese as a side which is always a good choice. We were stuffed after our meals but took ordered the carrot cake to go. Didn't eat it until the next afternoon, but it was so good! Today I wanted to eat with family for Easter and we decided to go to one out favorite restaurants J. Alexander. The place wasn't packed but it took our server Sarah B. 4 minutes to come greet us and basically rushed my friend to place her order. After our food was given to us by the other servers it took Sarah approximately 10 minutes to come back to the table and ask about us, we have never been asked to plate our own food but today was the first with our server. Reasonal Prices for delicious steak. I tried out the Maui Steak and it was delicious. The atmosphere, food and decor were all great but they need to work on their service. When I entered the restaurant I wasn't greeted until a few minutes. When they did greet me, it didn't seem all that sincere or friendly. Realistically you can't go wrong with J Alexanders. This is good for date night or birthday the food stays pretty consistent and is not that pricey. Also if you go go on a Friday see you can have the chicken pasta soup which is really good read more

We took our team here for our Christmas/New Years dinner, and were thoroughly impressed with the entire meal. We had Chicken rolls for an appetizer and they were really good. Steaks pretty much all the way around, and all were well prepared and delicious! They were fantastic the next day as well. The portions were pretty good sized, and you will have leftovers most likely! We had Creme Brulee' for desert, again delicious! Our server was a sweet heart, so ask for Ayan! Lots of parking so easy to get in and out of. The only thing we found odd, and it was really a conversation piece, there is a painting on the wall near our booth. It looks like a solitary trailer with a broken down car outside. We had a great time discussing just WHY a high end steakhouse would have such a painting on the wall. I enjoy this restaurant's food and portions. The specials are great the chefs are amazing. But the BRAVO goes to the waitress named KT. This was my second time having her. This review is primarily for their excellence in customer service. I had dinner there a few nights ago, and our appetizer never came before the entrees, so the waiter apologized and told us the app would be out shortly and be on the house. Thank you! After that, my boyfriend's steak came and it was supposed to be medium rare, but came out much closer to medium well. They took it and back and very quickly returned with a perfect steak. There were no issues with my meal, and everything tasted great. At the end of the meal when we went to pay, we would told that the GM was covering it. We were beyond impressed by that gracious offer and will certainly not forget how outstanding their customer service is. Unpleasantly surprised. I have eaten at this establishment for about 20 years and would consider myself a regular. My office is across the street and I have had countless business lunches and dinners there. Tonight I walked in for a late dinner after work (about 8PM) and the place was pretty empty aside from the bar. I just needed seating for 1.. as I have countless times. Shockingly the hostess told me it was going to be a 20-25 minute wait. I said " the place is empty.. there are lots of empty tables (in fact I could only see a half dozen or so tables occupied).. she said sorry we only have 3 servers tonight".. I said I cannot wait 25 minutes and asked if she was serious...I told her I eat here 3 times a week and am a regular.. she shrugged her shoulders. I walked out. She should have a least asked me to step aside while she chatted with a manager.. I recognized a number of the employees walking around. Not sure if the required face masks are creating a lack of empathy but 20 years of good feelings about the place turned to dust in 15 seconds. read more

I decided to try J. Alexander's for my anniversary and i was honestly impressed. Making a reservation was simple because they use the OpenTable reservation app. We literally made our reservation on the way to the restaurant. The restaurant has a warm atmosphere and the hostess was very kind. We were seated immediately by the hostess and our waitress followed suit. Our food came quickly and was cooked to perfection. J. Alexander's is a restaurant I would visit often in South Florida. I was pleased to find they have one in Chamblee Dunwoody. Even better, they accept reservations! I seem to recall the restaurant in South Florida not accepting reservations, but perhaps that has changed. Personally, I would never choose a restaurant that I can't book a reservation for on Open Table. I think this App is amazing. It's great to be able to book a reservation without having to physically call. It also feels like reservations booked through OT are given priority. Not sure if this is the case, but it sure feels like it. Anyway the food at J. Alexander's is great. I had the Grilled Chicken Salad - Feta cheese, olives, tomatoes, tortilla strips with champagne vinaigrette. For $15.00, it's a little pricey for a salad, but the service, ambiance and food were all excellent. This is the perfect meal for lunch if you don't want to be weighed down after eating, which can easily occur at JA's. My date and I shared the Key Lime Pie for desert. It's made with a graham cracker pecan crust. Beware if you are allergic to pecans, which I apparently am. For some reason pecans cause irritation to my tongue. It's my own fault though. All ingredients are clearly spelled out in the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more
