I understand that we are now in season and the holidays are upon us, however simple mistakes shouldn't be made in such a well seasoned establishment. We called early (4:30ish) for a 6pm pickup and upon arrival, to a packed lobby area, it seemed that our order had just been started. After returning home it was disappointing to find items from our order missing. One woud assume that for a restaurant doing an increased amount of take out they would staff an individual to double and triple check everything is in the bag before sending an order out. When we got home we were missing a side dish (baked potato) and had asked for extra aus jus (for the prime rib and French dip) and extra horseradish- we received one 4 oz container of aus jus and no horseradish. These items are necessary to enjoy your meal the way the chefs intended them to be served, so we had to drive back to the restaurant. Sam was very cordial and apologized and offered us a dessert for the inconvience. We thanked her and chose the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream; I'm glad we had not paid for the dessert, because I would have been extremely disappointed as the cake was dry yet "wet" at the same time. The food is consistent which is a plus; once everyone had all the components of their meal it was a fantastic dinner. The only comments were that Alex's salad was a LOT of lettuce and just a sprinkle of the other ingredients and the roasted tomatoes were over seasoned and a small portion. But to look at an overall view of our meal- The prime rib was a beautiful cut, the Cypress Salad is always a treat with the varied textures and flavors, the French dip is a classic and the salmon was cooked to the perfect temperature and seasoned very well. I would also like to address the density of the crowd around the host stand either waiting to be seated or pick up orders. We felt extremely uncomfortable and had to step outside and away from the restaurant to create social distance from others. read more

Pricey but the quality of the food is always good. The pork tenderloin is our favorite. The pork is perfectly cooked and the sauce it comes in is amazing. They make very thin fries that comes with their French dip sandwich which is delicious. The ahi salad is good but for $20 price tag they are stingy on the amount of tuna they give. A perfect location on PGA in Palm Beach Gardens with amazing food and service! First time at this location! Today was Sisters day for Lunch and shopping ...stopped here for lunch , so glad we did! Arrived early and was seated immediately. They are adhering to all CDC guidelines including social distancing and limited occupancy. Our server, Brian, was excellent! Attentive and welcoming! Funny too.. please ask for him if you want an amazing experience! We ordered the Italian Tomato Soup, the side order of mushrooms, cheeseburger without the bun and the amazing Mac and cheese. Food is solid but it's a bit of amateur hour here. I find the table ticket system a bit odd - when you are seated they place a computer printout table card with your name and the # in your party. Fees a little downscale to me...it's a steakhouse not Smashburger lol. And anyway the system doesn't work very well because they call by your first name and when your name is, say, Mary, well there's a good chance there's more than one Mary which is what happened in our case. When we were seated I noticed the last name and guest # was wrong and when I brought to the servers attention they escorted us back to the hostess stand. After a few minutes they called by first name AGAIN and we were seated at...the same table. Ughhhhhh....an inauspicious start. There was a long delay for our drinks and we had to ask for bread but our server was very accommodating and tried his best. J Alexander's is a nice option when doing lunch in the PGA area. It has a super nice bar in case your table is not available or while waiting for friends. After getting sitted which was only like 5 minutes at the beginning of the lunch time rush waitress recommended the soup and salad option to my friend and I ordered the Hake fish with Israeli Couscous. I have to say that this was delicious. I will order it again. Service here was outstanding. Very attentive and friendly service without being intrusive. read more

So disappointed from start to finish. From making the reservation on the phone to receiving the bill from the waiter. Perhaps this is no longer a slightly more "upscale" experience. I've had better food and service at Bonefish or CPK quite honestly. It's the little things.....no small napkins under the glasses resulting in a table with huge wet puddles....the bill a curled up peice of paper not in any kind of envelope slapped down as he passes into one of the water puddles on table. Waiter was not interested in what he was doing I don't think. Now the food....I mean I look forward to a beautiful peice of fish...I had cod. It was just not great....really heavy and greasy for such a delicate fish. Brocoli borderline raw. The terrible service added insult to injury. I took my lunch break to sit at the bar at the Palm Beach Gardens location. Was greeting within 2 minutes and ask what would I like to drink. I advised the bartender unsweetened tea with lemon. About 2 minutes later a bar back delivers me an ice tea with no lemon. He did at least ask me do I want lemon. I said yes and he promptly brought 3 slices. As I sat in front of one of their terminals, I told my bartender I am ready to place my order. She says I will be right back to you. Her and another girl were examine order slips and kept walking back and forth between two terminals. After 10 minutes I decided the crab cake order was not worth it, since I was ignored. It's unusual to have problems as I have dined at other locations and always courteous and promptly provide top notch service. When I witness failures, it's management failing to uphold processes. I told the hostess after 10 minutes I am out of here. Stay away from this location. read more

We typically avoid chain restaurants when we travel but we read the reviews and could not resist. The food and service were top notch. I LOVE a good prime rib and I was not disappointed. My husband had the daily special of the trout. I subbed the potatoes for the broccoli and OMG it probably was not the healthy choice I was going for but it was delicious. Had dinner there the other evening with my husband and another friend. Our friend goes there often, us not so much. Very disappointed at the lack of care and POLICY!! Called to try and reserve a spot for a small surprise party for the hubby's favorite restaurant only to be turned away because a party of 8 is too large. We used to frequent J Alexander's and try our best to ignore how unhappy the staff seamed. I was going to ask to speak to the manager but quickly remembered Gloria said it's not possible so what's the point. Seems kinda silly a place that large can't figure out how to seat party's over 6! After some less than stellar meals in Plantation location we hit this up in palm beach the other night and they were far and above the plantation location for everything from Ambiance, service and quality of food. Arrive to Covid 19 seating which means they have you spaced decently. Adriana was our server & she was great though food runners, managers and bussers were also quite good. We kept it simple. Bottle of wine that only Jay Alexanders gets as they have some agreement with Foley Johnson vineyards. It happens to be one of my favorites so I am a bit bias. Start with Pasta Chicken soup and house salad. Salad is what it is, while soup was hearty, hot and fresh and tasty. An couple of Burgers ordered the "Steakhouse" and the Traditional. Both were cooked perfect with incredible quality and taste. Baked potato on one was top shelf while they 5 cheese mac and cheese was decadent. This is my 4th visit here since I posted my initial review, and I regret giving it 5 stars. So today I am bringing it down a notch. 3 stars just because the food is better than most places. But today, service and ambiance deserve one star. Our reservation was for 7:45 but we had to wait until after 8:04. I know the time because I looked at my watch to check the time. Our table had been cleaned with a dirty towel that left a lingering sour smell. As soon as the hostess that sat us down left , the waitress shows up and asks us what do we want to drink. We ask her to give us a moment to settle down and look at the menu. After ordering our round of drinks, we were made to wait for long enough that she had to stop by twice to offer apologies for the delay. Finally the drinks were delivered by a waiter who carried 4 drink glasses with his bare hands instead of using a tray. He asked me to help take them off his hands because he was not able to set them on the table. We are still trying to enjoy the evening but we knew it was becoming an uphill battle. The nail in the coffin happened when the terrible waitress "slapped " the ticket (bill) on the table as she ran past us while we were just starting to eat desserts. (Most restaurants present the bill in a folder, not just the printout strip of paper.) I expect that at a diner, not a restaurant. At a diner the waitress usually leaves the bill and says "whenever you're ready". The second nail happened when the same waitress brought us a second bill and argued with us saying she hadn't. I think you get the picture. It's a shame that the kitchen staff made a concerted effort to prepare a good meal and have the front of the house service drop the ball. read more

This place is overrated. Popular with the over 60 set, happy hour ish time, I came for dinner and got seated in a center row table. Our server was smiley, lovely even. They served warm bread, after our order was taken, and the bread was covered in .. parsley? Why? Bread doesn't need a garnish. The meal came. After a really long wait. The order cheeseburger, an order of crabcakes and a fillet without the béarnaise sauce. The cheeseburger was cooked alright but all the meat seems to have a weird gas , smoke type of flavor that is not appealing. The crab cake was crunch outside but still a bit runny inside. I ate around that part. The filet was just ok and my party weighed the pros and cons comparing and contrasting it to the Outback meat. Outback would be a better choice. And cheaper. For what we paid?
