But the mashed potatoes were cold and hard, the sliders were flavorless, the onion rings on the sliders were cold, and Vinnie never came by to refill her drink. It's about time I tried J Mark's Restaurant. Friday night and where to go .. this was the place. Friends have been, Yelp reviews have been read, and we were in the mood. Plentiful parking, a dimly lit industrial ambiance, and friendly service from start to finish makes me Yelp yes I'm so glad I came. They brought us a basket of warm rolls and whipped butter that prepped my tummy for the meal to come. I started with a delicious basket of calamari, served with three tasty sauces: marinara, pesto and olive oil, and a creamy garlic aeoli that complimented this classic app from the sea. My dinner companion ordered a BLT salad served with bacon, lettuce, tomato, bleu cheese, and topped with a honey bacon balsamic that brings this salad to life. I was craving more seafood delights, and somewhere between a salad and a filet of many of the fish specials I spotted the Ahi Tuna Sliders. Win! Three sliders served with a nice chunk of seared tuna crusted with pecan deliciousness and topped with onion and avocado. The dipping sauce served on the side was a great compliment to these tasty sandwiches: soy-wasabi-ginger salty sweetness that soaked my little buns. My bestie took his Porterhouse Steak dinner to-go, and it was aromatic and looked amazing .. I don't know how he could resist cutting up this fine piece of meat right there at the table! I loved their side options, which included everything of garlic masked potatoes to fries, veggies, and even plantains. A menu of great foods and exotic adult drinks make J Marks a big winner for dinner! There's even a sun room you can reserve for a special party or large gathering. Oh, and be sure to grab some of those after dinner candies as you make your way out .. not your typical mint but more of a pina colada tasting hard candy. Dinner at J Marks - Went to J Marks for dinner on Saturday night and our server was Loretta. From the moment we sat down, Loretta treated us as if we were great friends coming over for dinner. She was so welcoming and friendly I thought she was a friend of my wife. She made a great recommendation of twin lobster tails that was just $3 more than the salmon I was going to get. The lobster was fantastic, of course. From beginning to end Loretta made our dinner so enjoyable that we can't wait to go back. The food and service at J Marks has always been great. The bread rolls are soft, fluffy and delicious, and the service is friendly and attentive, there is plenty of parking and they offer a late night Happy Hour. The food is hit or miss, I had some great meals and others that were just meh. My biggest problem with J Mark's is the noise level and lighting. They keep it so dark its hard to read the menu, I understand wanting to have a nice ambiance but when you can't see the stuff on the menu, well, that's just ridiculous - are they trying for a lower FPL bill? And my other problem is the noise level, it is a large restaurant and it gets busy but this is the loudest restaurant I have been too. I like to sit at the bar when dining out, and bars tend to get loud, but J Marks is painfully loud, its not like people are screaming, I tried to figure it out last time because it was driving me crazy and the only conclusion I can think of is poor building design for the acoustics. read more

4/3 and 4/12 We went here twice. Once just my wife and I, and once with 4 other adults and 4 kids. The food was very good, but the rolls they put on the table are to die for. On our first visit, we just had huge dinner salads, and neither of us could finish our meal. We did have the bang bang shrimp appetizer that wasn't very good. They used tiny shrimp and as a result seemed overcooked. When we went back the second time, everyone was thoroughly pleased with their meal. My son even asked for more rolls for the table, as the first batch disappeared immediately. Our waiter was very good, the atmosphere was typical for a family restaurant. My experience with J Mark has been almost exclusively from the bar. So this review would be specifically on the merits of: bar location and overall ambiance. With that said, I think J mark's is a hidden gem. How is that? because J Mark's is about 2 minutes off 95. Now think, how many spots for a quick happy hour drink are a couple minutes off 95. Literally 2 minutes? That aren't a little scary to get out of your car at? h. It's a happy spot that is cheerful and classy. Every time someone coming from up north or hurrying up 95 from the south says, "hey, wanna meet for a quick drink at happy hour? Any good spots in Pompano?" I say, there is one spot I know that will quench the thirst as good as any in this area. I'm not saying location from highway 95 is the only redeeming quality at all though. Its a popular spot actually. sometimes you cant even get a spot at the bar. Luckily there is high top tables nearby. It's an upscale steak type place with an older clientele. It makes for a sophisticated bar with people drinking some good mixed drinks. The music is pleasant and the bar staff are quick to make whatever concoction you may have thought up. Me? It's one of quick dirty martini spots. with the warm amber tones of this place, it fits in quite nicely. stop in. Maybe for a Steak or an appetizer. But in my opinion, at least stop in for a tumbler of libations when in the neighborhood. read more

Post Covid they have a lot to improve. We ordered 20 oz. Rare Prime Rib. We got medium, brown Rib 30 mins later and were informed there was no rare available. So we ordered a rare 20 oz. Rib Eye. Our idea of rare is 120* for a 2" think piece of meat. I bet my wife that we were in for Chef's Revenge. Once we sent a medium Veal Chop back and the got the same treatment, Steak Tataki. an over seasoned blackened burnt outside crust about an 1/8th" think, very cold interior. This is a 20 ounce 2" think steak. This is J Marks way of saying "We're sorry please come back," No manager apology, just a poor waiter that was helpless. Needless to say we won't be back. We searched via Google Maps for a restaurant that was on our way back to North Palm Beach. I was not expecting it to be THIS good!! Wow!!! We had the Avocado Rolls, Mushroom Swiss Burger, and Veggie Lovers Pasta. EVERYTHING was amazing and I am now wishing they had a location further north in Palm Beach County! Another surprise? The first was early 2020, and we had a great experience, but the restaurant industry is very different now, so every meal out is like the first time again. Such a good dinner tonight. Our server was clearly an experienced professional. Each part of my meal, from the cocktail to the crab cake to the miso salmon to the asparagus was perfectly cooked. My friend and I sat at the bar as the dining area was too busy, plus I like the bar area so one can chat with strangers. Once we ordered, we asked for bread & butter, she said "sure." We waited for the bread & butter for over... let's just say our dinner arrived before the bread & butter. As my friend pointed out, she had helped why couldn't she get the bread & butter before our dinner? The bar area was not as busy as you may think. We tried our hardest not to say anything as we both are in the service industry. A guy next to us asked 7 times for his bill (Yeap I counted) he even left his credit card on the counter for the bartender or manager/helper to grab it. Get this nor the bartender or her helper/manager acknowledged the poor guy. Anyhow, as soon as I could I asked for more bread & butter, her response "I need to charge you because we only give one complimentary order of bread & butter." I was shocked. I kindly responded "thank you for letting me know. Can I please have an order of bread & butter." After I placed the bread & butter ordered, I remember that it takes hours to get the bread & butter as the bartender is/was "too busy." She's so nice and personable, not like the server I had previously. The food was just as good, if not better than the service. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip- that cheese pull though! It was probably the best I've had in a while. I got the ahi tuna sliders again because they're so good. They did have onion on them, despite asking for no onion. The food is consistently good and we had been lucky to have the BEST waiter Taylor in our last two visits to J Marks's. We sat outside and it was just perfect. I must add that if you go, stick to water, soda or wine. Getting something else is plain and simply armed robbery, even if it is happy hour. After going there for years, i met the owner and now I understand why things are run well. So many things are SO good but I love love love the crab cakes (which I am normally not pleased with, other places, but....OMG.... Nice CHUNKS of crab and great flavor.
