Just ordered the chicken fajitas and a combo plate with a beef taco and cheese enchilada. I was very disappointed with the fajitas, portion size was small, it looked like a burnt mess of sizzling onions with a small portion of chicken and bell peppers. I ate what I could except the burned onions. I can't believe they would let this product leave the kitchen to be served, very disappointing. I cannot understand how anyone could love this place. I liked the atmosphere and really enjoyed the patio. The food was really terrible. I asked the waiter what a sauce was on my plate (resembled curdled milk and tasted like it) and he said he had no idea. If you just want a beer outside its perfect. Don't get the food!! Service is the main issue with this place. I've come here about a handful of times in the last year and a half and the service hasn't gotten any better. This restaurant used to be excellent. No more of that. Now the food is cheap and average and the prices are outrageous for the poor food. As an example they use canned chicken for tacos and burritos. It is standard Mexican fare, (warning: I am a vegetarian so I can't opine about the carne asada and such) the restaurant is about the same size as the bar. The interior decor is pleasing and there is outdoor seating. The staff is very friendly and eager to please. The only problem, and it's a big problem, is that everything is overpriced. I ordered guacamole as an appetizer and it was $9 and definitely not worth it. Be prepared to pay at least 2 to 3 dollars more for the same dishes at Don Pericos. read more

Our favorite "go to" restaurant. We always feel comfortable here and the food is yummy as well. We usually sit in the sports bar where we are always served by the best waitress Rebecca. She always has a smile on her face! The salsa is garlicky, a little spicy, with chunks of tomatoes... really good. The drinks are good, the Jacalito Margarita is delicious. We ate lunch at this place today. The atmosphere was pretty decent and I liked the wait staff. The food itself was just okay. They put a lot of cumin or something similar to it in their chile verde, and while it's okay, it doesn't really taste like proper chile verde to me. The rice and beans are good but I thought they were a little pricey ala carte ($6 for rice and beans). The enchiladas were also spiced a little oddly to me, but they were better than the chile verde. Ive been here a few times and it seems to have gotten worse each time. Took my wife last night and sat in the bar. Service was fast but the waitress was very unfriendly. This is a new location and the reviews I am reading from a year ago aren't for this place. Ignore those! You may not see it easily off Hageman, but it is worth finding your way to it. The new place is spacious and nicely decorated. The staff are amazing! They are all friendly and on top of service. We asked for water when we ordered our drinks and unlike many restaurants, they brought the water right away instead of when they brought the drinks like many restaurants seem to do, which was great with the Bakersfield heat we came in from. Our drinks were never empty before asking if we wanted another, same with the chips and salsa, which are really good! I haven't eaten anything there that I don't like and honestly, we love Mexican food and can't find anyone who is decent anymore. Everyone seems to have lower mediocre food. If you are a cheapskate, don't go here. You get what you pay for. The prices are a bit higher, but you will notice that around town as the minimum wage has increased, however I have no problem paying more when you get the service and quality food that I get. They also opened a large bar, more like a night club, next door to the restaurant (which has a regular bar). We haven't been there though. They also have a nice outdoor area for dining, when it isn't so scalding hot in Bakersfield, I plan to try it. It seems the older restaurants are not really trying anymore, but Jacalito Grill definitely is! I strongly recommend this restaurant. read more

Been here several times since it's in our neighborhood. I love their salsa and their San Antonio chicken fajitas are so yummy. My son loves the shrimp cocktail. The unfortunate thing is that the service in the restaurant is almost always poor and you can't get happy hour prices on drinks unless you are sitting in the bar. read more

Decided to drop in at the bar for dinner and a beer after having a bad experience at another establishment. Sat at the bar, bartender was pretty quick at serving me a beverage, even though bar was full. I ordered huevos Ranchero. Bartender was very attentive and could tell he had a great work ethic. Ok well this is my very first Yelp I actually had to download this app because how bad my steak was! I ordered uber eats tonight thinking I would get a decent meal and I couldn't be more wrong first my styrofoam container for my enchilada was compleatley melted thru at the bottom the red sauce got everywhere. I also understand steak at a Mexican restaurant isn't going to be top notch but normally mediocre, this was the worst by far I can't even begin to tell you how overcooked it was for a "New York" I ordered medium but how poor quality the meat actually was will never order from this restaurant again! Went to the bar and grill side. Thought it was cool it was separate from the restaurant. Me and my friend made it for happy hour. Happy hour is Sat-Sun 3-9 surprised it was all week. The bar appetizers where around 10 and under. We got the Jacalito platter for 6.50$ it was enough for us to share. We ordered the regular margarita on the rocks. The Margarita was very good size for 5$ and it was good. One had me feeling relaxed ready for a beer. The staff was super nice, on it, and always checked up on us. If your looking for a nice hang out bar on the weekdays, with co-workers, friends, or just your spouse to hang talk and have a good fun conversational talk with drinks and food. And remembered how disappointed I felt when I left . I have have good food here at Jacalito But the service is real bad . Especially service in the bar area. Jaclito grill sucks. I see their bar is packed. But not the restaurant. The food is horrible. When I was a child my father would take me to restaurants where the white folks would eat. They demanded quality al the time and my father was right. But now it's so sad to see that is gone. Jacalito grill is a perfect example. The food is horrible but every body it saw eating in there was enjoying it. The portions are small and the prices are high and the food is nasty. This walmart mentality has everybody going stupid. Quality is out the door, wait out of bakersfield. I know jackal into grill is a local buisness, but people, let's hold our standards a bit higher. I use to fare jacalito back in the early 2000s and let me tell you. It not the same you could tell the cheap food they serve now. So disappointed as we have been going to the restaurant for a while now. Took a late lunch and arrived before 2:00 but the waiter did not get our order before the lunch menu ended at 2:00 and was charged dinner prices. The hostess even had the nerve to bring the 3:00 menu that was the same prices as lunch but not what we were charged. Expressed our concern and disappointment and the manager did nothing!!
