Usually like coming here because of the throwback interior decor, although the food always leaves me with something to be desired. Today's service was terrible, everything went awry when I asked for a side of avocado and it was brought in a plate filled with grime on the edges. A plate most likely not cleaned well by the dishwasher. I brought it to the attention to one of the waitresses and she responded by saying it was just an old plate with allot of scratches. Scratches don't come off when you clean it with a napkin. Save your time and money and go elsewhere, I know I am never coming back here. read more

Always great food here! My favorite times to come to Jack's is on Sunday afternoon during brunch and Sunday evenings for dinner. My favorite is their Cream of Chicken and Rice Soup since I'm a soup lover. Their soups during the week here are excellent. Have some fun here and order off the menu! I like ordering their Blueberry Belgian Waffle Combo. They make blueberry pancakes with generous servings of blueberries. The waffle version (not on the menu) is just as delightful! My husband & I literally eat here once or twice a week! Not only is it just at end of our block but the food is delicious! Definitely quality & quantity! We've enjoyed bringing people to try it for their first time. I notice a lot of people avoid this place because they say they only see "elderly couples" inside. We have been going to Jack's for about a year now. Normally it's our morning breakfast stop or lunch. Huge portions and very well prepared and clean. Until last night.... We got there bout 730pm in the middle of dinner rush. We were seated by a manager or waiter maybe. Not sure. Didnt speak English very well. He sat us and that was it for about 20 minutes until a waitress noticed us sitting and she took our drink and food order then. Daughter finds a long black hair on her side of table before food comes out. No big deal. Until we ask for an extra side of ranch and it came with a short black hair directly in center of ranch bowl. Not saying I wont go there again but definitely not in the evening rush!!!!!!!! read more

I've been burned before when going out for breakfast in Whittier by believing the reviews that state how awesome and super delicious the food is a Scottys and Norms. Truth be told, this lower rated Jacks in Whittier serves a much better breakfast then either of those places. The last time I ate at Norms I ended up vomiting in the parking lot. And Scotty s was nothing to brag about. The corned beef hash I ate at Scottys was fresh out a can!! Jacks was super!! I ordered the veggie omelette and it was just an overall great breakfast. Great service, good tasting food and there was some effort put into making the breakfast instead of just slapping some garbage together like you'd get at other places in Whittier. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food here and the service. Not what you would typically expect in Whittier. Just an overall great breakfast place. I like you, Jack's. You're good people. You give me lemon with my vegetable soup, you have good chicken, hearty sandwiches, and tasty breakfast platters. Your googie sign reminds me that you're a real throw back and a part of Whittier history. Sure, your line might be long on weekends, but that's only because people like your food and service. Parking can be a pain when busy, but what are you going to do? The walk will do all of us some good. I can't quite pinpoint the unique flavor of your coleslaw. I detect a hint of vanilla. It's unexpected, but it works. Take out is always excellent, in that you pack everything necessary without having to ask: utensils, condiments, and plenty of napkins. The worst Salad I have ever seen! Someone threw this mess into a bowl and gave it to me. Chunks of lettuce stems. Big yellow nasty lettuce. This nasty thing had about a teaspoons worth of watered down Ranch. Don't order the Salad unless YELLOW is your favorite color. The rest of the meal was pretty much bland, ugly food that all of the Old regulars probably couldn't even taste. Sad, all the way around! Stopped in here at 6:30 am for breakfast as I had to go to the nearby DMV that wouldn't open until 8am. The sign says it all - since 1933. The elderly morning clientele all seemed to know each other (and the wait staff) by name. The environment was comfortable, friendly, unobtrusive. I felt like I was in small town Americana, not a major Southern California metropolis on the outskirts of LA. The breakfast was solid, hearty, good. Eggs, bacon and pancakes were all well made. This is not a neighborhood I would frequent but would I would definitely comeback the next time I come out this way. read more

I have many good memories of this particular JACK's family restaurant located at the corner of Painter and Whittier Blvd by The Big Lots. They've been around for a long time and are an excellent brand non related to Jack In The Boxes in the area. My family and I have had many wonderful meals here. The staff, the old memories , and the classic decor is always heart-welcoming. To compare them to a local fast food chain is offensive and morally wrong. Came here on New Years Day (evening). Decided to try it out (considering nothing else was open). 2 stars for service and overall experience. But quality of food was enough for us to not want to go back. My husband ordered the burger with fries. I tried it and we both agreed it was incredibly dry, burnt, and just not very good at all. I had an omelette, French toast, biscuits and gravy, and a hot chocolate (I was 9 months pregnant okay lol) and it did the job. The omelette was good. French toast didn't taste very fresh and the biscuit and gravy tasted really bland, biscuit was very hard and dry too! The hot chocolate was delicious! Lol but maybe cuz I was pregnant and it was cold and rainy outside. We were seated quick enough considering how packed it was, but it took a very long time to get the waitress attention, order, get our food, and get her to follow up! Overall, we tried this place. Its local and seems to be busy a lot. We can say we gave it a shot but husband and agreed we'd much rather go... somewhere else for our breakfast cravings. read more

i love coffee shops! anyone who knows me knows that the way to make me happy is to take me to diners such as carrows, coco's, millie's and now jack's! although i'm not from the whittier area it was easy for me to tell that jakck's is a definite whittier institution. one clear sign was the waitress i had the night i went, who looks like she's been there since the days those diner's doors opened. i had the vegetable soup which tasted very homemade and not out of a can, although i'm sure it was out of a can =) and i tried the lima bean soup which was surprisingly very yummy. for my main entree i had the french dip which which is, in my opinion, a coffee shop staple. it wasn't the best quality of beef in the sandwich but was definitely the expected quality and the fries that were served with it were top notch. next time i find myself in whittier i will definitely make it a point to stop by here =). read more

After watching a Charles Phoenix slide show featuring the retro signs from Jack's we decided to stop in for pie and chicken. We shared the pie plate which was more than enough with 4 pieces a plate. The chicken was tasty...all the other sides were pretty much picked at and left behind. Broccoli was over cooked, salad swam in dressing, and mashed potatoes were on the bland side. The pie was tasty too. The wait staff was the highlight of the visit. Very attentive and very joyful. For a late night meal, not a bad place to stop. read more

Want to get lost in the 50s? Then you have to LOVE 'Jack's. Here it's jumping in a time machine to get the opportunity to have what grandma and grandpa had when they were young. Jack's rock with a quiet and older clientele and the food is simply made as good as the hey day. Better than Denny's! Oh yeah! Character: that's what Jack's all about. FOOD: Ordered the Country Breakfast which came with 4 sausage links, gravy and biscuits over easy eggs and hash. Great stuff! The gravy and biscuits are not for those on a diet - complete with rich and delicate flavor. Though the order says my OJ and Coffee was suppose to be "included" in the meal, I was apparently still charged. Oh well, but certainly a loss of some points there. We stumbled upon this place after scrambling to find another place to eat. Cute decor and we were able to call in a reservation. Food was okay. I ordered their waffle and added strawberry and whipped cream. The waffles was fine but they added an excessive amount of strawberry topping (not fresh) and it made the waffle soggy. If you get it, I recommend getting it on the side. We also ordered water and the water was really cloudy with particles inside. I had the fried chicken. It was ok. I have been here 3 times. The staff is always friendly and the place very clean. We had a really good time. Parking is shared with the shopping center. I've lived in Whittier my entire life. But I would always drive down Colima Rd and see a sign that says "Jack's Fried Chicken". Everytime I drove by my mouth would water. Finally I decided I waited long enough, and I stopped by with my family. They did not dissapoint. The fried chicken is amazing. Customer service is amazing! They're very friendly and very quick with their service. Tuesdays they have a Chicken Tortilla soup that is out of this world and my favorite is their Cream of Chicken soup that is only served on Sundays! Love this place and the food is great. However, I called and was asked to hold a and ended up being on eternal hold. I was placing an order for pickup and was leaving work. I drove here still on hold to walk into Jacks that was empty to find the hostess on phone texting and sipping on her drink while I was still on hold. She was unapologetic and quite rude saying it would take long the food would be out. That was the whole point of calling in an order, so that it was ready and called with enough time. Young girl with black hair and glasses. I was so frustrated with her I didn't even want to ask her name. Get off the phone and pay attention to the customers. Came by myself, it was crowded waited for about eight minutes, got seated and food came fast. service was really really good and friendly.
