This place has some delicious breakfast food. We came around lunch time but were craving breakfast. It was our first time here and knowing it's a staple in Whittier, we decided to give it a shot. Yes it is an old school restaurant but that adds to its charm. My husband ordered the country fried steak and eggs along with biscuits and gravy. I had to try them and they were quite delicious. For these dishes it's all about the gravy and let me tell you, the gravy was amazing. It had so much flavor. It wasn't bland like how it can be at other places. My husband was born and raised in the South and he knows his country fried steak and biscuits and gravy. When he says that it's amazing, then it means it's amazing. His verdict on his order: amazing! I was craving pancakes so I ordered the regular pancakes. They give you 4 delicious, fluffy pancakes. I was only able to eat half but I thought they were really good. We only ordered water, but Jack's does have several beers on tap as well as a variety of wine, among other soft drinks. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars as opposed to 5 is because of all the gnats inside it. I counted 3 on the wall next to us and 3 more just sitting on some of the decorations on the wall next to us. I understand bugs are anywhere and everywhere but I didn't enjoy eating my food with them right next to me. Perhaps the recent heatwave drove them inside. Joey loves a good diner. He just happened to find this place on the way to his nephews basketball game at Whittier College. We came for the fried chicken which was not incredible, but it was good. What stood out was the soup they had a cream chicken and vegetable soup the day we went I asked the waitress to mix them which she did without a problem. It was sooooo good. The picture isn't pretty, but that soup was made with love. Big piece s of chicken, chunky cuts of veggies, rice, macaroni noodles, and it was very flavorful. I thought it was funny that the cup they used for my 2nd glass of soda was bigger then the 1st. And my water cup looked nothing like the 1 Joey had. Been coming here for awhile. Since i was 10. Miss the times when they served hot chocolate with a seperate pot of hot chocolate on the side. Now its a small WIDE cup. Food is once in awhile good, otherwise always average or below it. Right now ive probably had my worse dish, Ham and egg and cheese "panini". Absolute slab of grease. Bread is soggy and wet. There is white cheese, but looks like mayo, glued to the ends of bread. Egg is cold, ham is greasy with small "puddles" of grease on it. Just excessively greased. My stomach hurts. As a lifelong resident of Whittier I grew up eating at Jack's. The food is fresh and delicious. My favorite place to get breakfast or a late night meal. I was surprised the last few times I went for breakfast because they seem to have changed some items for cheaper, lesser quality replacements. Jack's always used real butter. If I asked for more they would give a little metal cup with some butter in it. Now they seem to have changed to margarine. I noticed the difference in the taste immediately. When I asked for some extra for my eggs, they brought me a bowl of those hard-as-a-rock individually wrapped squares of margarine. I also noticed a difference in the quality of the bacon. It used to be crispy and delicious. Now it's chewy and it tastes rubbery. It was disappointing because I really love this place. They service is always good and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Even though it's always crowded, the food comes out to the tables quickly and the servers are there to refill your coffe and make sure you have everything you need. read more

Wife and I found this place while looking for a late night diner spot. The place was easy to get to with good Parking. We got and split a Panini and completely enjoyed eat. I would have included pictures but it didn't last long on our plates. Our server was on point. She foresaw us sharing a bowl of soup and brought two bowls without us asking.
