This review is SOLELY for my experience last night. Normally, this is a consistent 4 Star place- Food is great, service is better than most (by Miami standards at least) and the Owner's are truly AMAZING- in the restaurant all the time overseeing and helping things run smoothly. Last night, well, a totally different place. First there was a new manager of sorts (if he's not new- ok but I've never seen him before and I'm here 1-2 every month). He's the complete opposite of the two owners. He's not friendly, was on his phone the whole time, and has zero customer service graciousness. Tonight though, it was bizarre. Well before 10pm (it closes at 11) the kitchen was closed for any food orders and the staff was stacking chairs, had gloves on for cleaning floors, were shaking out rubber mats behind the bar in front of customers, capping the bottles with cheap paper cups- a full hour+ before closing! The bar staff was rude. The bartender (a pretty black woman) wouldn't serve past 10:30 (remember it closes at 11!!) and the whole plane felt completely chaotic. I feel horrible for the owners who have built a wonderful reputation over the years and have a loyal customer following- but that manager, bartender and most of last night's crew (heard of when the cat is away the mice will play), well that crew is what closes restaurants after many successful years in the business. I love jaguar and love this Peruvian/mexican option in the grove, so I HOPE they make some swift changes and restore the old guard. I'm happy to volunteer to be a "secret eater" - like a shopper- and dine and report until this gets worked out, but whoa does it break my heart having to write this review. However it was THAT bad. read more

Such a long time living in Miami and going to Coconut Grove and I definitely have to say I am embarrassed to say that this was my first time in Jaguar. I was impressed. I had heard amazing reviews about this place that dated back many many years ago and while eating every dish, we could tell consistency and quality of the food was definitely prioritized by the chef and the staff. We spoke to chef Oscar del Rivero and he told us about the menu and the variety in the dishes. We were there to try miami spice but still had the opportunity to try other dishes on the menu (and even one off the menu) and all were outstanding. I think this will be, from now on, one of my immediate answers to refer as a great spot for brunch, lunch or dinner in the Grove/MIAMI area. Super well deserved! read more

The food and drinks were great, but the service is a bit disorganized. We called and began to make a reservation, but the hostess suddenly told us they don't take reservations but assured us we could sit outside. Once we got there, there wasn't enough tables for us so we had to sit inside. Though it started out rough, we still made happy hour and ordered a marg pitcher for the 4 of us. It was quite strong and delicious--worth the money. Some of the apps were also $5, so I got ceviche and popcorn shrimp. The ceviche actually had two tostones, and the popcorn shrimp also featured an unnamed popcorn fish in addition. Overall, the fish was quite good and I enjoyed both apps, as they made for a decent small meal. I'm not sure if I'll be back, as the outdoor seating was really limited, but the drink deal is pretty good. read more

Been to Jaguar twice, and I just love the vibe and ambiance of the area. It's located in Coconut Grove where you can walk around and see the park, boutiques, and pick out one of the sidewalk cafes or restaurants to eat and drink at. This restaurant is a Peruvian/Latin fusion restaurant. They have a number of different ceviches for you to try. They even give you the option of trying all of their ceviches as spoonfuls for a pretty good price. I do love that. I asked for suggestions for ceviche, and I chose Black Market and Ceviche Los Cabos. Both very tasty. There were four of us in our group, and I am happy to say that what I chose was the best plate of them all. It was called Salmon Norma with sweet potato, corn, spinach & hearts of palm with lime butter sauce. So delicious. I also had a try of the mahi mahi, and the Grilled Churrasco, but they were just okay. Mine was the best, and the others thought so as well. Came in today for lunch with my coworker and was thoroughly impressed with the food and service. I order the lunch special which was only $15 and came with soup, a salmon salad, an entree of seabass with lentils, and a mini desert which was phenomenal. Yesterday I stopped in Jaguar, as I frequently do, and I tried another new menu item off the summer menu, the Tuna Pokito Bowl. It was fantastic! It consisted of fresh tuna, avocado, rice with toasted coconut, mango, pickled watermelon and red onions, and malanga chips. It does not have a sauce on it, so I asked for a side of aji amarillo - which I do often, because theirs is so darn good! The aji tasted really good with the bowl. Everything was so fresh and fit perfectly together. My one complaint was that I could have used a bit more rice. From a health perspective it was probably the perfect amount, but a little more rice would have balanced the portion of tuna better. Jaguar is always raising the bar with their latest menu items. Previous: I've been eating here for about 14 years and it's as good as ever! The menu constantly evolves. You can try something new every time you go. The Latin flavors are excellent. The ceviche here is light and some of the best I've ever had! They have a new menu item of mahi lettuce wraps which is one of my new favs. It comes with a crab mayo. The Caipirinhas here are excellent! Great spot to grab some apps and drinks at the bar before a movie or have a full meal with friends/family. read more

Jaguar is one of the friendliest restaurants in the Grove. Manager, George is fabulous. Had 2 Happy Hour parties there of 30+ people and George not only remembered what everyone drank throughout the evening but also their names! Stayed for dinner and loved the food, as always. Update: I've been in touch with both Jaguar and their PR representative, who apologized extensively. They refunded us and invited us back to the restaurant. It's clear that they wanted to make things right. Skip. TL;DR: 1. Service and COVID-19 precautions are nonexistent here. 2. They charge more than the stated menu prices. Buyer beware. 3. Food and drinks were underwhelming. I'm no chef, but I could've made this dinner at home. My boyfriend and I were looking for a restaurant in our neighborhood for dinner on Friday, March 5. After settling on Jaguar, I called to see how long the wait would be. Red flag #1: They didn't pick up the phone, so I waited a few minutes and called again. No answer. Not a good sign, but we decided to walk over. The hostess added us to the waitlist and estimated a 15-minute wait. Red flag #2: She asked us to sit at the "waiting area" outside, which is well out of view of the host stand, and promised to let us know when a table is available. We were the only ones sitting there, though there were other parties standing closer to the entrance. After 20 minutes, we headed back in and a table was ready. If we didn't go back to check, we could've been waiting out there all night. It was extremely loud in the restaurant. I'm not sure if it's like this every Friday night, but I had to yell to be heard across the table. Our waitress (I don't recall her name, but she wore her hair in pigtail buns) even had to move closer to me in order to hear my drink order (sangria for me, Jamaica mule for him). Red flag #3: The sangria didn't have any diced fruit in it. Just red juice on ice, like sugary Hawaiian punch. At a Latin American restaurant in Miami, shouldn't the sangria be more authentic? We then ordered entrees (salmon with salad for me, mahi mahi with fries for him). Red flag #4: The waitress collected our menus and immediately passed them to another table that just sat down next to us, without even pretending to sanitize them. We were appalled. If they're not practicing safe hygiene in the front of house, what are they doing in the back? They don't offer QR code menus here. When our orders arrived, the salmon was only about the size of my palm. Neither of us found our entrees enjoyable. Jaguar saved the worst for last: when our check came, I noticed they charged $12 for the glass of sangria, not $9 from the printed menu and on their website. That's a 33% price increase, and I honestly would have ordered something else if they posted the correct price. I understand restaurants may update prices from time to time, but I'd expect the difference to be perhaps a dollar, not a 33% hike for red water. When I asked about it, the waitress said, "It's always been $12," which tells me that this change isn't recent. You need to fix your menus or honor the price that's shown. The waitress disappeared in the back for so long that we paid just to get out of there. When she returned, she said "there was nothing she could do" about the price difference because we'd already paid. What about refunding the difference, or returning it to us in cash? That was clearly too much to ask. What an awful experience. Don't waste your money. read more

I was in Miami with friends to celebrate the new year and we had so much fun at this delicious and lively restaurant. The service was super attentive - our server Daniella took amazing care of us, giving us great suggestions of what to order off of the huge menu and making us laugh. It's hard to believe how many things Jaguar gets right. It's nearly impossible to be everything to everyone, but this restaurant manages to do just that. Whether you're in the mood for Mexican, Peruvian, Cuban, Caribbean, Brazilian or some Miami-modern invention, this is the place. The key to their success is the use of fresh ingredients sourced for well edited house specialties. So, the pescado a lo macho (Peru) will hit the spot as well as the asado negro (Venezuela) and the tacos (Mexico, obvi). Those freaking platanitos they serve while you wait for the appetizers will break even the most hardened dieter. They are so addictive, I dare you to eat just one. Their wine program includes renown names from Latin America like Catena, Montes, Altos Las Hormigas, Concha y Toro and Luigi Bosca. It'd be nice if they featured vineyards from Mexico which is producing some great wines on this side of the Equator. The interior design could use an update, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker: the deep reds, warm yellows and wrought-iron accents throughout are in line with the spirit and aesthetic of the region that inspires the cuisine. Even in that regard, Jaguar is unapologetically Latin American. Overall, this is my favorite place from this restaurant group. It could teach a few things not only to its brethren, but to other restaurant groups that try to reinterpret regional cuisines through their "modern" take on Peruvian, Spanish and other gastronomies. read more

I went with a very large group which always makes it hard to give a fair assessment. That said, I can asses the dish I had, the steak salad. The salad was drenched in dressing making the spinach really soggy. The steak was cooked well, but temperature was cold and flavor was not particularly impressive. Others at my table got the prawn dish and chicken tacos - both were sizable dishes that looked good (prawns were HUGE) and they seemed to enjoy their food. Ambiance is nice and located in a cute part of Miami. Gotta say, despite our very large group, the service was great and staff were pleasant. I do think it's a good place for big groups! read more

Dogs are permitted to sit on the chairs as if they are human and the employees, who handle food no less, are petting said dog. By far the best ceviche I've ever had! The restaurant vibe is fun and tropical, service was fast and friendly, and the whole experience was fantastic. They serve plantain chips and blue chips when you sit down with a spicy sauce and it's so tasty! We had the Peruvian pisco Sour and it's made just right with egg white. Light and airy with sweetness. We tried two ceviches one spicy one savory and both were delicious. There are even little corn pieces in it to give texture. Then we had the Churrasco with rice and beans. Delicious. The service is amazing, if you're eating dinner I suggest eating outside because they were courteous enough to set up fans so you can enjoy the outdoor environment with delicious food. I felt the breeze and watched the city. People watching is my favorite past time They greet you with fried plantain chips and a tomato based sauce that is just delicious.... I ordered the grill salmon with rice and black beans. The fish was amazing and delicately cooked. The rice and beans had a smoky taste, not what I'm used to but I'm used to the Cuban style. My daughter had the ceviche sampler and there wasn't one that she didn't like. Each spoon was met with a face of pure bliss and giddiness. I had the fish tacos. They were tasty but nothing special. It was more of a flavorful chunks of fried mahi mahi on top of cole slaw in a taco shell. Not awful but not amazing. For dessert we shared the tres leches cheesecake. TO DIE FOR! I didn't want to eat it but it kept calling me name. We didn't have drinks, so for our 2 meals and dessert it was about $50. I would recommend and would return. read more

The food here and drinks are pretty good. The one disappointment was the ceviche. We ordered two different ones and they came in this spicy red sauce, swimming in it. The sauce was good, but way too much. Cant say if the ceviche was actually good because all you taste is the sauce, regardless of which one you order. Their fish tacos are pretty good, but they also come with the same sauce they used on the ceviche! It feels like they use that sauce for everything. How many times have I walked past Jaguar Ceviche, seen the Jaguar painted in a green square, and considered strolling in? How many times have you? If you can keep an open mind about food or particularly love Peruvian seafood, I recommend you stroll right on in next time you're in Coconut Grove. I had a pretty big party and accommodations were made for us instantly. The atmosphere was chic and vibrant while remaining comfortably casual. It reminded me of Manhattan eateries if Manhattan eateries were tropical. Our table order an assortment from tacos to soup to ceviche to burgers and we were all pleased except those who do not like to be adventurous with their food. If your palate cannot appreciate flavor beyond "white rice and beans" then this place is not for you. If you like to taste the world without leaving your area code, try Jaguar with a friend. Service was impeccable except for a minor sub which was requested but overlooked. Were it not due to an allergy, I wouldn't deduct a star and while I understand that the kitchen makes the food and not the server, the server should have specified on the ticket and double checked the food before it went out. Beware: Delicious Peruvian food at this place! If you're looking for some fresh ceviche, or yummy lomo saltado, look no further! I've been here a handful of times and have enjoyed my experience every time. While the price is a little more on the expensive side, it's definitely worth it. To start, you're given chips (tortilla and plantain) along with that most amazing, creamy salsa. That complimentary appetizer will alone get me in the door each and every time. I'll review my most recent visit, which I went for lunch and got the chicken tacos. They are amazing, although they're more like taquitos than tacos. That was a bit deceiving, but it's a good thing they were so good. You get about 9 of them along with a side of guacamole and sour cream. The 'tacos' are stuffed with a decent portion of chicken, so very filling. Overall, they have a decent list of lunch options for $15 that come with a soda. The cost is a bit more average than lunch elsewhere, but as mentioned, I can't complain with the quality of food. The service is also pretty great. They are quick, helpful when picking menu items, and will bring seconds of the chips and salsa (which is extra brownie points in my book). Can't wait to come back here! read more

It's extremely rare that I give 5 stars however this place was worth it. The servers were very friendly, the menu wasn't over loaded but still gave you multiple choices and the prices were decent. With that said, the food was absolutely delicious! I started with the ceviche sampler that had many different varieties and just the right size. I then had chips and salsa where the chips consisted of blue corn chips and what appeared to be fried Plaintain's. The salsa was smooth and spicy, absolutely delicious. I told the waiter to surprise me for the main dish and that he did. It was the Arroz con Mariscos (rice and mixed seafood). The sauce was amazing with a touch of brandy and saffron which complemented the fresh seafood that was cooked perfectly. I finished off with a yummy cheesecake topped with toasted macadamia nuts dulce de Leche. Love it! read more

I am between a 3 & 4 stars on this rating. I will have to give them another shot because I think I am teetering more so because of the service and not the restaurant itself. We were there on a Saturday evening and it was kind of quiet when we walked in. I assumed it would get busier the longer we were there but it didn't seem that way. The food was very fresh and tasted great. They bring out tortilla and fried plantain chips with a dipping sauce which was nice to start. We ordered an Oriental Ceviche as an appetizer, I was really looking forward to it but it didn't come out - not even when the meal was there until we reminded the waiter. In my opinion, it was way too slow for anything to be forgotten. And while it did taste great at one point it felt like there was too much on the table. I had the grilled octopus and my date had two "small plates" in addition to the ceviche on the table for two. The chips were not cleared from the table, which also took up more space. I did love that on their dessert menu you can order a full-size desert or a two spoon I believe it's what they call it. The dessert basically come on a small ladle and it's just enough to taste which is perfect for me. I ordered the cheesecake with dulce de leche which was very good. Overall I had an ok experience, the food was very tasty so I will definitely give them another shot, hopefully the next time it will be a different waiter. read more
