Jake's continuously delivers on quality and value. I've been here several times over the past few months, and they are always consistent. My go to is a classic cheesesteak, with American cheese and grilled onions. Like any "simple" meal (burgers, pizza, et al.), the standouts are the ones that nail the basics and make it all come together flawlessly. Jake's uses Amoroso bread, always fresh, and this is important for texture. The ratio of meat to cheese is always good, and the cheese is melted into the meat, as opposed to slapped on as an afterthought. And, it's a great value to boot ($14 for a foot long). I lived in Philly for a time, and I can tell you these guys put Pat's and Geno's (and even my beloved Tony Luke's) to shame, mostly due to the hype of those other places. I'm a vegetarian, so I just want a cheese hoagie, like I used to get at Wawa. It took a minute to explain, but they nailed it!!! 100% perfect. I call this constructive criticism because every new restaurant needs it in order to flourish. First time here and cashier is not even at the front. Place was empty with no customers, I was the only one in the restaurant. The cook had to go back and let the lazy cashier know a customer is here waiting. 10 minutes later, a bearded teen comes out looking very annoyed that he has to work. He was NOT WEARING A MASK! He gave me no greeting and had a hostile expression like he wanted to fight me. I told him my order and he didn't acknowledge it and just said "5 minutes". Those are the only 2 words he said to me during the entire encounter. He took my payment and immediately went to the backroom again to presumably smoke something out of a pipe. 5 star cheese steaks and 5 star service. I ordered a 12in Original w onions n jalapeños ( they got some kick ) on DoorDash and only received half because the driver took half my sandwich. Called the restaurant and owner himself made the sandwich so he knew it was the delivery drivers doing. Although I ordered on DoorDash, he still treated us great and remade the whole 12 inch sandwich and fries on the house and was baffled and apologetic and couldn't believe DoorDash was messing with Jakes Steaks.
