This place is a slice of home away from home for me. The food is very affordable, has vegetarian broth options for their soup, and vegan option for their sandwiches. The food is delicious so far that I have had there rice noodle soup with tofu, and banh mi also with tofu. I had a Lychee dairy free boba drink and it was better that I expected. My favorite banh mi's in Minneapolis! Super cheap and super fresh --- why would you get a McDonald's sandwich when you can get an 8 inch french roll filled with julienned pickled carrots and daikon, spears of cucumber, sliced fresh jalepenos, sprigs of cilantro and your choice of barbecued meats(chicken beef pork) or mock duck. All of that for about the same price as a McD's sammich! Jasmine Deli also has my favorite kind of goi du du (shredded green papaya salad), with shrimp and char siu pork. It's light crispy and fresher tasting than other green papaya salads, I think because you add the fish sauce yourself instead of the restaurant letting the shreds get soggy and sodden in the back. With that being said, I like to dress the salad immediately upon receiving it, then letting the fish sauce soak into it for about five or so minutes before eating it. Their noodle salads (bun) are the freshest tasting and prettiest in the city. The deli's food is far superior to the fancier sister's, Jasmine 26, and is cheaper to boot. There are some things on the menu I'm not a huge fan of. Their soups are actually pretty bad. Their pork broth soup is bland yet weirdly sweetly flavored. The meat pie that comes with the com tam is dry crumbly and tasteless, a pale comparison to Pho Tau Bay's juicy flavorful meat pie. And oftentimes when if they run out of the meat pies, they replace it with a fried egg without telling you --- really not an acceptable substitute anyway considering that an egg is so cheap and not difficult to prepare nor is it meat the way I want meat to be! They should tell you upfront and not charge you as much if you choose to get the egg. read more

I'm not a vegetarian but the Curry Mock Duck sandwich is the way to go at Jasmine Deli. I have not had many of the other items because I always come back for the Curry Mock Duck sandwich. I have had many Vietnamese sandwiches all across the US and this place has one of the best! This place has a small dining area. Its more of a to-go spot for a quick lunch. Jasmine is a frequent lunch or dinner spot for my family and I. There are so many great Vietnamese places, especially in St. Paul, and Jasmine is unique in its smallness and fresh food. I love the sandwiches, and they are a true bargain. When they are out of bread like they were on Saturday, then you just have to try something else. Don't waste time with the fried eggrolls. They are greasier than most and not a specialty. Stick with the fresh ingredients stuff like the salads and sandwiches. You just can't go wrong at their prices. I love this place! Not just because their Bahn Mi's and spring rolls are delicious but because they understand how to treat their customers. I generally can't get my shit together before 7:30-8:00 for dinner during the week and as anyone familiar with "Eat Street" knows, that is cutting it pretty close for most of the good Vietnamese restaurants. Several times I have called Jasmine at 7:50 desperate for a good take-out sandwich, they have never turned me away and are always willing to wait a few extra minutes past their 8:00pm closing time. So, if you enjoy good food served by great people, you should give them a try. read more

Awesome Vietnamese food on Eat Street in Minneapolis. Small family run business. The won ton soup is especially good, the broth is really tasty, I've not been able to find anything like it elsewhere. The spring rolls are terrific. Peanut spicy chicken appetizer is also really excellent. Really nice family runs the place. It's a little small and if you show up at the lunch rush you might have a problem getting seated. Worth waiting though. Whenever I am in the neighborhood (usually when I am at MIA or sometimes at the Electric Fetus record store), I love to stop by Jasmine Deli for a quick bite to eat. The place is a total hole in the wall but with a lot of charm. I absolutely adore their banh mi sandwiches which packs a lot of flavor for such a small price. The pork banh mi is my personal favorite with the mock duck in a close second place. I also love their broken rice dishes especially with the pork chop. Service and prices are excellent as well. Despite all the changes that goes on in the neighborhood, it is nice to see that places like Jasmine Deli remain the same. read more

Very good inexpensive vietnamese food in a family-run atmosphere. The staff are always kind and friendly and the food is quite good. The restaurant could be kept a bit cleaner. Vegetarians and vegans should be careful because the kitchen does not always communicate well with the front of house staff and they have substituted chicken stock for vegetable stock on several occasions when they are out. They have also occasionally used fish sauce when preparing vegetarian dishes. Overall good food at a somewhat below average quality (and low price). read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! The food here is fantastic! And the owner is great. He is friendly and honest and ALWAYS there, clearly dedicated and passionate. Everything I have ever ordered has been delicious, affordable, and lightning fast. Often there are bahn mis and fresh spring rolls prepared ahead of time and available deli-style (ie. walk in, pay, walk out). Their noodle salads are currently my favorite (far better than Quang, etc). Practically everything on the menu has a vegetarian (thank you!) option. The sauces are all super tasty. And the decor is so hole-in-wall authentic. My only minor complaint is the lack of cream-cheese puffs, my one seriously embarrassing asian-restaurant weakness, and I don't really mind, it means I end up ordering their tantalizingly crispy egg rolls. Also, I find myself craving their food EVERY Monday, the one day they are closed. But I realize everyone needs a day off and if I could, I would probably pick Monday, too. One word of caution, bring cash. Not having to fork over 1% of their income to credit card companies helps keep costs down for customers. Two "Jasmine" restaurants in downtown/south Minneapolis offer the best Vietnamese food in the Twin Cities. Both are near 26th St. and Nicollet Ave. S. on "Eat Street," a few blocks from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and are owned by Vietnamese sister Le Truong and brother Vinh. The older, more traditional "Jasmine Deli" offers excellent and comforting Vietnamese street food. (See also "Jasmine 26.") Jasmine Deli is Le and Vinh's first great success as co-owners in 2000. This pleasant, clean, and bright restaurant is just big enough for six or eight tables inside (and several sidewalk tables in summer)--but it's perfect for an intimate lunch or supper. There's also a park right beside it with tables for eating and room for kids to run around. As Minneapolis' City Pages said in 2009, the Deli is "the sweet spot of choice for much of the Vietnamese community." Prices are great, too: many items, including sandwiches, are just $2-4; all other meal-size items are $7-9. Warning: this lunch and supper is to die for. The first bite of a banh mi sandwich--a delicious traditional Vietnamese concoction of meat or tofu of your choice and other flavorings on a very fresh "French-crunchy" roll--is a revelation. The vegetables taste like they were just picked that morning, and the flavorings are elusive, light, a bit sweet--in short, wonderful. You can choose any one of seven sandwiches with a variety of meat or vegetarian options and flavorings. Most popular is the grilled pork banh mi. I always wanted to try Jasmine Deli after reading all the positive reviews. I finally got the chance to do so. I ordered a noodle, eggroll salad. The fish sauce and eggrolls were just right and those are the key ingredients to the whole dish. I suppose I should come back and try the banh mi sometime. read more

I don't understand why this place always gets good reviews for their Banh Mi. We stopped in the other day. The sandwiches were pre-made and stale. Their is no atmosphere to the place unless you like dreary and they don't take credit or debit cards. Looked like people were enjoying the soup but I wouldn't go back there to check because I thought they were supposed to be known for their Banh Mi and that was so bad, I don't trust any evaluation of their other food. read more

Do yourself a favor and go here for your banh mi instead Lu's. they have the flavors and the price right. Bread is perfectly crusty toasted and soft in the center. They also won't charge you extra for toppings like that Chipotle inspired assembly line banh mi place down the street called Lu's. here they just make the banh mi as it was meant to be made and charge you what they charge. Been hankering for good banh mi outside of Boston and New York City that isn't someone's take of a banh mi and reasonably priced for a while. Glad to have found it here. I am really, really surprised at all the positive reviews. We must have gone on a very, very off night. My husband got take out for the two of us. I have been feeling under the weather, and had a craving for pho. So, because of the great reviews, we got take out from Jasmine deli. I got beef pho and my husband got yellow curry with chicken. My pho was underwhelming, although acceptable. I look forward to a flavorful broth...we've been places around here where you don't really even need all the fixings to make the soup tasty, the broth does it all. Not so with the pho from Jasmine Deli. It was really pretty flavorless until I added the cilantro. basil, and plum and sriracha sauces, and lime. I still ate most of mine. However, my husband's yellow curry was beyond disappointing. At very first look, when we opened the container, it looked like soup. This was no rich, thick curry; it was thin and bland. To top it off, we were pretty sure the chicken was sour. We are highly unlikely to ever come back here, especially since, for the two of us, it was over $30. What a waste of time and money. Ordered thru Bite Squad which is never really the "hot meal" way to go in my opinion but that's not really the problem. The egg rolls (pork) are VERY good but the dipping sauce is really bland which is a double bummer because I also ordered the noodle salad and they use the same thing for the dressing so the whole salad was bland. The worst though, is the stir fried noodles with chicken...also very bland with a strange sweetness that is not good at all. And the veggies are cooked to death, the chicken dry as bone and completely unseasoned. Yes, the price is good but I'd rather pay more and get a lunch I want to eat. read more

Best. Soup. Ever. Jasmin Deli's noodle soup is comfort in a bowl. As a vegetarian, it is often difficult to find soup options at Vietnamese restaurants. The vegan broth is simply amazing. With fresh vegetables, ample noodles, and choice of tofu (steamed or fried) or meat - this dish is worth the trip. Delicious! My friend and I made our way down Nicollet in search of some cheap food and stumbled upon Jasmine Deli. With relatively low expectations we ordered spring rolls, pay fried egg noodles, and bahn mi. It was all so good! We wanted to stay longer and decided that some bubble tea was in order.
