This place is awesome. The bahn mi is delicious (pork is my favorite) and so are the spring rolls. It's family owned and they're really friendly and fun to talk to... last time I was there the guy who I think is the owner told us about new years celebrations in Vietnam. Pros: delicious, very cheap ($3.50 bahn mi, $5-$7 bigger entrees), friendly staff, quiet Cons: very much a hole in the wall, can be a little awkward because it IS small and mostly family/friends who seem to work there, only takes cash. Jasmine Deli is a tiny Vietnamese deli just off of Eat Street (can you tell yet how much I heart Eat Street?). With only a few tables, it is surprising how big their reputation is for great food. A reputation they totally deserve. There is no Pho there (for that you have to go a few doors down to Pho 79) but there are plenty of other tasty in expensive options. Everyone I know raves about their spring rolls, peanut sauce, and sandwiches. In fact, everyone I know who loves Vietnamese food raves about the Jasmine in general. I visited Jasmine Deli based on all the rave reviews that it was getting on Yelp. When I arrived, I was a little bit disappointed to hear that they only have vegetarian and chicken stock pho. Should have read the reviews a bit more carefully. This place is known for its light and subtle flavours, not the MSG laden pho that knocks you out. I ordered the combination fresh rolls and the combination pho. I loved the little details that went into the sauce for the fresh rolls, making the sauce a peanuty chili spicy dip. The rolls were plump and generously stuffed. The pho was probably good, as the gourmet chefs would like it. The soup was light and clear, but flavourful. There were lovely roasted garlic pieces that added a strong flavour. This isn't quite the heavy rich pho that I was looking for, but good on them for filling a gap in the cuisine. read more

I've had the bánh mì here a few times, and it was swoop-in-swoop-out takeout at that, so I have very limited expertise on all that is Jasmine Deli. Not my favorite banh mi that I've ever had. Tried the curry mock duck thinking that it would bring an interesting flavor to a fairly standard sandwich. Instead of wow-ing me, it just fell flat. I also can't tell if I love or hate the fact that they had many pre-made sandwiches predicting the lunch rush. I ordered mine without cilantro, so it was freshly-made, and I don't think I would have wanted one that had been sitting around for who knows how long. I love this hole-in-the-wall, eat street joint, family run, lightening fast service with a smile. Let's start with their banh mi. They're my favorite in the cities! The ratio of meat to bread is perfect in my opinion. Too often banh mi can either overload on the breadiness or the meatiness of the sandwich. The bread has just the right amount of crustiness, and the flavors of the ingredients are subtle, with the exception of the varying/somewhat unpredictable spiciness of the jalapeno. Also my favorite in the cities and ever in the universe: the pork egg rolls! They're deliciously greasy, the fried skin is the papery-crispy variety rather than that thick, bumpy kind a lot of places have. The ingredients are seasoned and loaded just right and the sauce is THE BOMB. Seriously, I wish I could just soak the whole egg roll in the sauce, which I think is the same house vinaigrette that comes with the vermicelli noodle salads, which reminds me... The vermicelli noodle salads are amazing! They're so much food! You will have leftovers! And so cheap! Eating at jasmine deli is like eating at your aunts. You look forward to going there because you know she can cook. However sometimes the food is not up to your high standards that you are accustomed to. They were out of Bhan mi, ( why, on the day I wanted some). The noodle salad was good but felt too one note, mine too much sweetness and not enough umami. The charbroiled beef in the salad was blah! I am a vegetarian and i love love love the salad! the mock duck sandwich is great! and the Pho (soup) is enjoyable as well. you can get most of anything on the menu made vegetarian. Was here about a month ago after a visit at the MIA. So glad we found this small sweet place. Introduced us to Banh Mi sandwiches that were super yummy. It's crazy I have never reviewed Jasmine's Deli. I live across the street and like going here. They have a ton of bahn mi's pre-made each morning available to pick-up & if you stop in too early after open you'll have to come back. They are so kind every time I go in and never had a bad sandwich. I could use a bit more flavor/substance to the sandwich but for $4 it is a good deal. All in all, great for quick, tasty takeout. The food was really good, and inexpensive! I had never tried bahn-mi, and I really liked the bites I tried. My sis, who loves bahn-mi, liked her's ok, but commented that it was a bit too bready. I had a broken rice dish that was very good and filling. We also tried the egg rolls. I was starving, so they hit the spot, but were way too greasy. The interior and service prevent me from giving the 4th star. I understand dive places, but it was really dirty and dingy inside, and it was packed and cramped. There was only one server working the whole place so our service was a little off (3 people got their food early, no napkins or chopsticks delivered w/ the food). He was nice enough, but he didn't write down any of our order (a huge pet peeve of mine), and had to re-ask what a few of us had to drink after we reminded him that we didn't get our drinks (after he brought the food). I love Jasmine Deli! It's a small place with only a few tables, small and cozy. Perfect for a casual lunch. Don't let the cheap prices fool you, the food is great as well. I always order the chicken broken rice plate and the mock duck sandwiches. The vegtables are always fresh and crunchy and I've yet to feel the effects of MSG. I've been going to Jasmine for over ten years. Spring Rolls, Bahn Mi Sandwiches and their rice noodle soup are my go to meals but The noodle salads, rice plates are also great. I will admit to having a few things that weren't great over the years, but out of the hundreds of times I've eaten here, I can forgive a small percentage of mistakes. I don't know why I waited so long to try this place seeing that it is walking distance from my place. The boy had a hang over. The egg rolls cured all the hangovers. Crispy. Hot. And just good. We ate one order there and got another to go. Because we are pigs. Pigs that love egg rolls. Yum. The Beard got the wonton with egg noodles. The wontons were great. No fillers. Usually wontons have fillers: water chestnuts, chives, mushrooms. This is just pork. I got the curry chicken noodle salad also delicious. Occasionally something will remind me of the food here and I will have to stop what I'm doing and go to the tiny place on Nicollet, usually stopping to get cash (they don't take CCs). The Jasmine Deli has that strong a hold on me. I get the charred beef noodle salad with egg rolls in it. My mouth is watering right now. Sometimes I get their coffee too, except with about a quarter of the usual dose of sweetened condensed milk. It's run by a family and they're all sweet and friendly, sometimes a little forgetful. But man, the food is good. And cheap! The bahn mi sandwiches are REALLY good too. Watch out for hidden slices of jalepeno. You think they're green bell pepper and then your mouth is a fiery wasteland - the tears in your eyes will be from more than the burning. I can't believe how much I live in that parking lot next to Jasmine Deli. I'm a member of Vertical Endeavors, I study all the time at that Dunn Bros, and I eat at Jasmine Deli more than usual. Loved it. I have been on a spring roll binge every time I go to a Vietnamese place and had to get them here, naturally. I got the pork and shrimp spring rolls and chicken basil rolls.. I have gone to this place almost a 100 times or more over the past 10 years. Never ever disappoints. Love the small hole in the wall feel and the perfect food and service. My favorites are: Chicken or Mock Duck Sandwich - The bread is delicious and is almost like getting a bit of Paris in the middle of Eat Street. Mock Duck spring rolls - to die for. Papaya Salad - Perfect, but you will need more food. Anything else on the menu is superb too. If there is a place to visit in Minneapolis, then hands down this is it. read more

Went in for happy hour and was td they I longer do happy hour. They had recently gotten a new menu and the waitress didn't seem to know too much about it. I had researched on yelp for other Bahn Mi sandwiches and this place came up. First of all trying to find parking was a drag. I went in and the sandwiches and spring rolls were just sitting on the counter. I paid and then ate outside. The Bahn Mi was a tofu one and unsure if it was cabbage or onions so peeled it off. The sandwich was so salty and tasted like soy sauce mixed with mayo. This was a letdown compared to Lu's down the street. The spring rolls were good though. I don't know if it is safe to keep premade sandwiches on a counter. Not on ice or anything. I did not see a date or time on it either. Jasmine Deli is a small Vietnamese deli in South Mpls. They have seating for about 20-30 people inside and during the temperate months, have sidewalk seating as well. I am a borderline regular there, and all I can say is the food is outstanding and affordable. The fresh spring rolls and sandwiches are worth the drive from any part of the metro. The soups and noodle salads are excellent as well. Even if you aren't a vegetarian, don't miss the mock duck items, as they change up the ingredients to make things veg friendly and it is like having a whole different menu to try. read more

This time I came in to try other things. I ordered the egged rice plate with beef. I liked it. Food tasted truely authentic, it's like my mom's food (she's a #1 cook in my book). Although it wasn't perfect, there was something wrong with the carrots. Maybe because I came in at 5pm and that the carrots were sitting out for too long, beef was a little dry as well.
