We've always enjoyed the shabu at Jazz Cat over the years - their ingredients never fail to be fresh and good quality, and the portions are generous with tasty sauces and a wide variety of broths to choose from. You start by choosing your meat option, then the broth and sauce - and you can also add sides and snacks from the decent sized menu. I almost always go with either the Angus beef or premium pork selection. I also like to make sure I add an egg to my order - I love the creamy yolk when it's been poached in the broth and broken over the rice - YUM! You have two options when it comes to your meat/veggie ratios in the portions - regular or "T-rex". The "regular" option gives you more veggies and a "regular" serving of the meat while the T-rex option gives you quite a bit more meat. I can't say I see a difference in how much veggies you get with the T-rex - it almost looks the same as the regular and for the same price so it's a good deal imo. The meats are consistent in their quality and always taste great to me with soft, delicate textures - sliced so thin they cook up fast in the boiling broths. I love to dip them in the satay sesame sauce (my fave one here). The veggies come in a surprisingly wide variety - cabbage, bok choy, some type of squash/gourd, zucchini, broccoli, baby corns, onions, and you even get a fish ball and imitation crab piece! For the broth, I pretty much stick to either the pork bone broth (my usual) or the Japanese creamy miso if I'm feeling something lighter. I've also tried the tomato broth and the creamy milk/corn broth and they were good but not ones I'd get regularly (personal preference). The broths are all tasty but rather light and mild and could definitely stand to be a bit stronger in flavor. I almost always find myself wishing for a little salt or soy sauce. The satay sesame sauce is complex and sooo flavorful with the peanutty satay complimenting the umami sesame profile and adding that much needed boost of flavor that's missing from the broths. The Japanese sesame and thai satay are also solid sauce choices. The meals come with a bowl of rice but you can sub vermicelli noodles if you want. They also include a little portion of the noodles with veggies so you get both either way. The vibes are sleek and modern with very swanky jazz-club style decor and intimate seating for your party. I love the cat theme too - even their hotpots have paws and ears - it's so fun! Service is often a tad lacking - they're nice but inattentive and go long stretches without checking on you (even when they aren't busy). You almost always have to flag someone down for the check or just make your way to the front to pay. That's the main reason for my four star rating as opposed to five. Prices are decent for the quality and portions. And they also have an AYCE option! There's a decent sized parking lot in back of the building but when it's busy parking gets challenging - especially since they closed their San Gabriel location. All in all this is a solid choice for shabu - we've been coming for years (my review is long overdue lol) and definitely will be back!

I use to love jazz cat since set menu hot pot places are pretty rare to come by now since AYCE is a better business model for a lot of hot pot places but over the years i feel like the quality gone downhill. The service was good as always but i feel like the quality in meat declined. However the set menu was large enough to make me feel satisfied towards the end of the meal. There's plenty of seating and the table size is really big! perfect for a good spread of ingredients. They also have an AYCE option here ! Plenty of parking! and Molly tea is the next plaza down to finish the state flow

I have to admit this was our first choice however we were pleasantly surprised with our dinner. We were in Arcadia area, so knew there were a lot of choices for a hot pot let struck out at the first two since we didn't have reservations and the wait was extremely long. We found this place on Yelp and immediately went on the waitlist. We were seated immediately upon arrival. All the tables are booths within individual burners/pots for each person. They have an option of all you can eat and Ala cart. That all you can eat for an adult was $39.95 for dinner. My only complaint was we had to flag the server down each time we wanted something. They weren't really checking on you voluntarily. Once we did ask for an item, they did bring it promptly. The way this one works is: you pick your soup base which they have a lot of options. I chose the Japanese miso, which was so flavorful. Next, you choose two sauces. Now it's time for all the stuff inside starting with the meats. They didn't have any seafood on all you can eat menu. Next was the veggies. I didn't see bok choy on the menu, but we asked and they had it. Lastly, you can ask for noodles or rice. They bring everything to your table so there isn't a buffet type area where you get your sauces or veggies. It was such a cool day in shabu shabu hit the spot.

Awww this place is such a vibe! Came in on a rainy night, perfect for some hot pot. The restaurants decor lives up to their name Jazz Cat. I love the low lighting on each table. It's a perfect place for a date night or a group of company. Their sweet potatoe fries as a side were good w a crunchy outside and soft inside combo. First time at the Arcadia location! Parking was a little hard to find but there's a lot in the back and you can only enter the restaurant from the back. Service was pretty good. We had a party of 8 and were seated immediately on a Saturday night at 6 pm. The first round of food came out quickly but the rounds afterwards took some time. Recommend the kelp and sukiyaki soup bases. You can also order multiple items at the same time for the ayce menu without limit. We didn't realize there was also green onions and garlic and some other condiments in the hallway so keep an eye out for that. They also had a promotion where they gave out free Jazz Cat pots too!

My party arrived at Jazz Cat around 6:00 PM on a weekday and experienced no wait to be seated, which was a great start to our visit. The staff greeted us warmly and promptly asked whether we preferred the a la carte or all-you-can-eat dining option. We chose the a la carte option, and it ended up being more than sufficient for everyone in our group. For our meal, we ordered the Japanese Spicy Curry soup base in the T-Rex style (more meat, fewer vegetables) and the Japanese Miso soup base in the regular style (a balanced portion of meat and vegetables). When comparing the two broths, the Japanese Miso soup is more flavorful, as in saltier (in a good way!) where the Japanese Spicy Curry was more mellow. Regardless, both broths were flavorful and enjoyable. One tip for future diners: opting for the regular style may be the better value. The T-Rex style does not provide a significantly larger portion of meat when compared to the regular option, making the upgrade less worthwhile. We also tried the Japanese sesame, ponzu, and Thai satay dipping sauces. Each complemented the hot pot ingredients well, and we were satisfied with all three selections. The service throughout our visit was attentive and responsive. Additionally, the restrooms were clean and well-maintained. Parking is free and conveniently located in front of the restaurant, which is a major plus. Overall, a pleasant dining experience with solid food, good service, and convenient amenities.

Jazz Cat in Arcadia offers all-you-can-eat (AYCE) shabu-shabu. There is a variety of broths and sauce to choose from. ::Food:: We enjoyed the Premium Angus Beef for its tenderness but the beef short plate was overly fatty. The Japanese Spicy Miso and Spicy Tomato broths were flavorful and packed with spice, while the Satay Sesame broth was watery. The best AYCE shabu shabu restaurant in the area. There are not many AYCE places around anymore, but this one is the most worth it and most affordable. At only $40/person you get all of the meat options, vegetables, noodles, and others hot pot essentials. The quality of the ingredients is great and the sauces are also very delicious. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the interior is huge. The AYCE option is super worth it, but they also have a la carte options.

I haven't been to many shabu shabu restaurants, but this one had the biggest portion sizes out of all of them. Loved their lamb and beef. Their miso broth was better than their bone broth, but both were delicious. Definitely add an egg to your soup and choose their spicy bean sauce which went very well with the meal. Service was very fast and I like how big their booths are, packed with 6 burners at each. I'd like to go back to try different combinations.

I had a good experience dining here. I considered this place to be a classic hot pot place in the San Gabriel Valley area. The staff was nice and hosted us efficiently and attentively. They came coming to our table to ask if we needed anything further. The golden fish ball was probably a stand out from everything that we ordered. All the other items (broth, quail egg and meats) were pretty standard and nothing too different than from other hot pot places, but still really good. The price isn't too bad either, considering all the food you are getting. Overall, this place hits the spot when it's a cold day out, or even if you are just craving casual hot pot. Sad that their valley location closed down, but this new location still does it nicely.

Ambience: pretty picturesque. Big chairs and tables with build in hot pot. Food: ok. It's edible. I like my t- Rex size meat and but the veggies portion was a bit small. Vermicelli was about 4 to 5 strands. Portion was smaller than if you go to melange pay by pound places. Service: Quiet bad. Put in back corner. Not check often. Waiter mixed broth, have uncommitted answers, and attitude like they didn't really to be there. But found out later broth were mixed. Had to wait about 30 minute for my milk tea. And flag a waiter to ask. ( they forgot) Soup was almost dried out before they refill with plain broth. Had to flag waiter from common area to get service. Pricing: 28 for beef T- Rex 25 for regular chicken 8.50 for about 1.2 cup of fried tofu 4.99 for green milk tea that taste funny... Total was 100 bucks plus. And they have a promo spend 100 you get a cat hot pot ( I gave it away). Tip: I gave bare minimum because in the end my sister had to get up and get more napkins and spoons. Since there were no one to come to check up on us after giving us our food. Our water was gone. Tables were not cleaned. If table next to us didn't have guests we probably be ignored until check time. Amazing huh? When they have check they check table 2x and I refused to pay until they gave us to- go containers. Location: not noticeable at the front main street in the dark. But Google map found the place. Pokestop: 1 gym and 2 Pokestop within reach. Maybe there's a reason why there's a lot of Pokestop....

I've been coming to this place for eons now....their other location on valley is closed now..... Overall this place is clean consistent and nothing is ever wrong...it is kind of hidden and I think business used to be more bustling..... I just got the veggie miso with the veggie combo almost all the time It is one of my go to places for shabu. Service was good and the place is generally clean. I'll be back as I always have!!!!

Jazz cat now has ALL YOU CAN EAT! $37.95 for dinner/premium menu Seafood add ons for $5 more I was surprised to find out they changed to ayce and had to come try for myself. Background: I had jazz cat once before and got the corn soup base set before it went ayce, enjoyed the experience and see their selling point in having unique broths, but couldn't help thinking it would be more worth to go ayce with an extra $10-20... And lo and behold, here they are! Since it's ayce, went with a safe soup base pick, the pork broth, and then ordered a bunch of meat. (You could change ur soup broth for an extra $3.) If u eat well, the soup base may lose a bit of it's flavor towards the end. The Angus beef, beef short plate, and lamb were good! Ordered the chicken once to try and it was better than expected (but still focused on beef and lamb for money worth). DON'T get the pork. I tried it so you don't have to!! It was dry and the chicken tasted better. Didn't try the seafood add on so can't speak for it. Was already getting stuffed from the reg menu. Sauce wise, I like the ones with sesame in it. Kinda wish there was a sauce bar available like how some hot pot places do it. Jazz cat gives individual portions of veggies and sides you ordered. It helps me to try more things. For the price, I do wish there were more or different "hotpot companion" such as meatballs and tofu skin to pick from. I'm not a fan of the corn kennel as it's individual pieces and will just swim around in the soup, refusing to be caught and eaten. BUT I do like corn, I think it'd just make more sense for it to be on a cob for hotpot. Lastly, gotta appreciate all the cut cat decor the restaurant has. Even soup pot holder handles are wittle cat paws!

Terrible restaurant! I won't come to this restaurant anymore, i was so hungry and almost fainted in front of the receptionist. Very busy restaurant, could wait for an hour for seating. Environment is loud. many soup base flavors to choose from. Service sometimes slow. But overall experience is still good. We visit this place once a week on a regular bases, meat quality and the quantity during weekend is not good, maybe they are too busy. Be where of the server, one time my credit card information was stolen, and caused lots of fraud charges read more

I'm very impressed with the shabu shabu here. Lots of options to choose from in terms of protein, soup flavor, and sauces. Prices are pretty affordable and the portions aren't bad. Servers come around often and ask how you're doing and also ensure you have enough broth. read more

I came to this place with my fd for their lunch special few days ago. It was my first time visiting here and I love it! I have been other hot pot places but this one is the best so far. For shabu shabu I definitely like this place. Get on the waitlist from home and show up just in time to be seated. The regular portion has just the right mix of vegetables and beef for a medium appetite. Can't beat the price!! Don't forget to ask for the garlic, green onions, and cilantro! read more

Love this place! The service staff are very nice. I have tried different flavors of broth and all of them are good. There is another one on Valley too but both of them are mostly packed. If you don't want to wait for an hour or more, get there a little early. Perfect place to go for a cold night! read more

Used to visit this chain hot pot restaurant frequently, food is decent and price is around 15 dollars per person. However, since around April 2019 they decided to remove their stamp card program which punishes old customers. Great food! Awesome portion size! We all enjoyed!!! Strongly recommend Satay sauce. We loved the lamb and beef. The pork was ok. The udon portion size was unbelievable. A couple boxes of the veggies that I ordered to-go today all went bad to the point that they weren't edible anymore. This included the pumpkin, baby corn, broccoli, and cabbage. They weren't fresh. The veggies also didn't appear to be washed, as there was still dirt on there. read more

I super enjoyed this place. After a full day with some girlfriends getting massages I was introduced to this place. Great experience. I was able to built my soup and cook it right in front of myself. Lots of meat I opted for extra lamb and super spicy sauce. I will definitely come back. Btw the Tea was outstanding. read more

I love you, Jazz Cat! The best hot pot in all the land. Always the freshest veggies, good quality meat, and the most savory broths/flavorful sauces you can ask for. My go-to is either the spicy pork bone or japanese miso broth, t-rex beef, and both satay and sesame sauces. Yum! Can't go wrong with that. So happy about this new location- the cat shaped bowls are the cutest!! read more

The food is 3 stars BUT, their yelp waitlist situation is ridiculous and stupid. It's not convenient because whoever is seating people keeps calling people who are on the yelp waitlist, even though they haven't arrived yet, but not anyone who is actually sitting and waiting. so I guess their isn't really a first come first serve option because it seems like they just call whoever they feel like it. ALSO, IT IS FUCKING RIDICULOUSLY AND UNNECESSARILY COLD INSIDE. Bottom line, the food and service is ok, but be prepared to wait and freeze your ass off. read more

What happened??!?!? I used to love coming here or SG location in a cold weather!! My girlfriend and I were there last night and we were very disappointed. The three stars was for their customer services and the soup base. If I could, I would give them one star for the meat. We both ordered the premium beef (rib-eye) $14.95, and they tasted like rubber band. Seriously, rubber band. I had to swallow my meat during the entire meal. I saw it on other comments saying that the meat are ordered to slice. I swear to you, our meat was taken out from the freezer directly! Not sure when I will go back and give it another try.... read more

Jazz at has always been one of my favorite spots, but after they opened one in Arcadia, I have been going to this location minimum once a month. Definitely a perfect date spot, has smooth jazz playing for ambiance but a fun and different way of enjoying your meal. The layout of the restaurant isn't the best, however the staff is great! Even with the high booths and only one aisle for staff to walk through, I still manage to receive frequent check ups. Best combination of hot pot is definitely Beef as your meat (I prefer the TREX size), with Japanese creamy miso as your soup base, and Japanese sesame sauce. read more

This is probably one of my favorite non-AYCE shabu shabu spots. For a price of about $14 before tips and tax, you can order the T-Rex (more meat than veggies) beef to go along with many choices for soup base and sauce. I usually stick to Japanese spicy miso soup with ponzu sauce. This is my first time in the Arcadia location and I have to say, I definitely like it more than the San Gabriel location mainly because it's bigger and the wait time tends to be lower. read more

great hot pot for a very reasonable price! I always get the t-Rex ribeye with sukiyaki broth and ponzu sauce, but this time I got the miso broth instead which was really good too. My bf got the milky corn (? Creamy corn) broth which we both didn't really like--too watery-tasting and makes your veggies taste bland. So if you're not sure which broth to get for your first time, the sukiyaki or the miso is your best bet. Definitely get the T-Rex protein instead of the regular because even though you get less vegetables you still get a decent amount and way more meat. In addition to the beef and veggies, each hot pot comes with an egg to crack in, which is like my favorite part; I love cracking it in at the very end and eating it with left over rice As for the service, every time I go here the service is super fast and I never have to wait more than 10 minutes to get my food. The wait time can get pretty long on Friday and weekend evenings though, which is a drawback. Overall, if you're craving hot pot then you can't go wrong with this place! read more

Pretty good place for Hot Pot, the price and food is good. Only complaint would be that the soup container is uncomfortably far from you and that the service was slow and unresponsive. I had their specialty seafood essence with beef, the portions of everything was reasonable. I would definitely be back. Another good thing is since this location is new I've never had to wait for a table. read more

This place was pretty good. We've only been here once but we did have to wait quite a bit about an hour before we were seated the service was quick and the food was good to fair. I think they expected you to know what you should order. No Recommendations or asking if you have been here previously. Perhaps all of their business is word-of-mouth. The soups are OK. Racist!!! My cousins and I went today to eat and I can't even tell you how the food was. The customer service upon arriving was terrible. We walked in and was not greeted the girl at the front (Nora) tells my cousin you need to sign in on the iPad. Mind you no one was waiting so we're like okay, first time there... my cousin signs in and we're just standing there. Nora starts pouring glasses of water and walking around doing busy work and says nothing else like oh it'll be however long before you're seated or anything so we just wait. After about 5 minutes she comes back over and says you can have a seat we're cleaning off a table so it'll be about 5 to 10 minutes. I guess she got tired of us standing so she gave us an update. About 5 minutes later another party walks in and signs in on the tablet and sits down. My cousin started to get cold so she wanted to wait outside and makes sure to tell the girl that we're not leaving we're going to stand outside. One of my cousins goes and sat off to the side while my other cousin stood directly in front of the door so she could be seen and I was in between the both of them. We're talking and about another 10 minutes go by and another party walks in. By this time my cousin was like wait that other party isn't sitting there anymore and walks in to see what was going on. Nora wasn't at the front anymore so we wait. I walked in and ask another girl like what's going on?! Why is it that people that came after us are being seated before us and there's no way you can say you didn't know because we have to sign in on the iPad. She says I'm not sure but I'll find out (she was a waiter) I then see Nora and asked her the same question. She then says they were a party of 2 and we're like and we're a party of 3! There's 4 burners at their table so we're not understanding... She dismissed everything we were saying and says I can seat you now. Ummm no! After waiting over 20 minutes with open tables, you seat people before us that came after us, and was rude when we first walked in I don't feel comfortable eating here at this point! Clearly it's a racial thing... We're the only black people here and being treated like crap. Oh we'll just have them wait until they get tired and leave. It's so sad that we were treated that way! I had heard good things about the food but I'd never spend a DIME here or anywhere else I'm treated with disrespect because of the color of my skin!! read more

This is by far my favorite place to eat Shabu-Shabu. I like that they have a wide variety of soup base to select from. I prefer the Thai spicy over most, but I also enjoy other flavors such as spicy miso and Taiwanese satay. I always choose the premium beef, and order a side of fried golden fish balls.The atmosphere is relaxed; the music sets the mood for a romantic night out. I great place to take a date out to. The wait can sometimes be long depending on the time and day you choose to go. read more

I've had this place bookmarked a while so it was the perfect time to try it. It was not so busy for a Tuesday night. There is plenty of seating, bar seating and the place looked super clean. I wasn't sure what the special dishes were so I ordered the Premium Blue Fin Tuna and Negitoro Bowl, Premium Chirashi Dinner and an order of halibut and salmon. Our favorites was the Blue Fin Tuna and Negitoro Bowl. The tuna paired with the rice as soooo good. I was in absolute heaven. I love tuna and negitoro and this dish did not disappoint! The Chirashi dinner was decent. It had a little of everything which was nice. The fish were not too thick which was nice and the rice was flavorful. The dinners both came with a salad and miso soup which were both pretty good starters. The halbut and salmon nigiri pieces were also really good. :) Overall, the vibes inside were nice and the service was great. Parking is easy since there is a big lot out front and this place is tucked away in a plaza. I will definitely be back :) ALSO, I thought the prices were quite decent for the quality of the food!!

Everything was delicious and tasted fresh. The black cod hand roll was so flavorful and especially good. Service was also amazing. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcomed throughout the meal. My only feedback is about the uni. In my opinion, it was not the best on the day we visited and tasted bitter from what I usually expect. Other than that, everything else was great and I would definitely come back.

I opted for the signature hot oil one and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were so tangy and additive. I was afraid that it would be too spicy, but it was actually the perfect amount of spice for me! I was definitely sweating by the end of the meal LOL, but it was worth it! I would love to come back and try their other dishes.

I've been to a place where everyone shares one hot pot, but this place was unique in that everyone gets their own hot pot. There is quite a selection! You choose the broth, meat, and sauce. You dip and cook and eat. As you cook, the broth gets tastier and tastier. You can ask for more water to thin out the broth, but it's really not necessary unless you order more sides. You can order a helping of Udon noodles, and add that to your pot. I had the spicy broth, but next time I would order the non-spicy version. For the meat, you can order the standard which is vegetables and one of the following: pork, chicken, rib eye beef or you can order more meat and less vegetables. There was also 2 pieces of tofu, hakusai (cabbage), kabocha (pumpkin) and glass noodles. Some people in our party ordered the seafood and there were large pieces of prawns.There is also the deluxe version. For the sauce, I ordered the spicy and it was flavorful. It was a very filling meal and would love to go back again! We went around 5:00 pm on a weekday and was seated very quickly. Your whole party needs to be there before they seat you. read more

Fast forward 13 years and a recent move back to the area, I was taken aback by the increase in prices. The flavors and options are still good but Let me tell you, it's not for the faint of heart - starting at a whopping $23 for the basics. If you're thinking of adding a bunch of items, be prepared to break the bank! They do offer an all-you-can-eat option for around $40 per person, which might be the way to go if you're looking to get your money's worth. My advice? Stick to the standard options ranging from $23 to $28, or go all out with the all-you-can-eat deal. Trust me, it's a better bang for your buck, especially if you're rolling deep with a big group.As for the service, my female waitress was a bit on the curt side and seemed a tad fed up. Compared to my first experience at Jazz Cat, I'm not sure if I'll be making a return visit. High prices and lackluster servers don't exactly make for a winning combination. Oh, and don't forget about parking in the back - it's a hidden gem just like the entrance. read more

Came with a party of 3 after seeing the post on instagram. Food was great and my servers were attentive. Wish I could give a higher score but I came for the ayce promotion I saw on Instagram. The post advertised two pricing options for lunch and dinner. 26.95 AYCE Lunch 11:30 AM - 3:30 PM 36.95 AYCE Dinner 3:30 PM - Close Apparently the 26.95 pricing is only good for Monday - Friday which isn't disclosed on their IG post. The server wouldn't even honor it when we pointed that out. The post only stated ayce was starting 5/25 at X prices and at Y time frames. Upon writing this review, the post I showed from their own IG page has been now deleted. Luckily I had a screenshot saved when I showed my peers. Jazz Cats been around for a bit and has been one of the OG staple hotpot's in the SGV area. I really wanted to support their new business model, but after being mislead by their ad and the store not taking accountability of what they are advertising to consumers seems too shady in my book. There's better options out there. read more

Came here with my son last night and they have the best spicy miso soup! I don't know why people love to cook their own food, but if you have to cook your own food in a pot, this is the place to do it. I think that many people are skeptical of this idea, but this place was delicious. I'm glad I came here after being recommended by the lady who does my nails. Yummy! read more

One of the top 5 hot pot spots! Pretty spacious inside. I usually get the kimchi base and it's so delicious! You can choose which base you want, what meat and other veggies/toppings you would like to add. Affordable and worth every cent. Servers are kind and are very helpful when it comes to recommendations. I love it here! read more
