Very good service and I love their menu! Variations of ramen including traditional flavors, fusion and new trends from Japan. Their noodles are also very chewy, al Dante, just the way I like it. Will always be one of my top ramen places whenever I'm in the South Bay Area. If you want ramen right frikin now this is the place. While it's not a choice for fanciful ramen Jidaiya makes the simple pleasure of sitting down and slurping hot noodles in delicious broth a great one. There are numerous choices for ramen in the SoBay and I always pick this one first. The primary reason I go to Jidaiya is the patronage. I'm always surprised at how I can walk in at any time and find a seat. They're constantly busy, but not overly busy. One should also note that the services have been consistently good over the years. The ramen and sides are always good and they serve Yuzu flavored Ramune! My go-to is the Chashu Yatai ramen (chicken broth and thin noodles.) The Tonkotsu is incredibly rich (congeals over time) and comes with thick noodles. I'm not for spicy ramen, but my coworkers really like it... same for the miso. Prices are comparable to other places, so you don't lose anything by going. If you are in a bind for ramen at this moment just go... go now! Eat the ramen and enjoy the vintage decor. If you're looking for alcohol go somewhere else. It's not served, but you can bring your own with a receipt. read more

I came to this place before they opened. I try their tonkotsu-ramen. It was just right. Soup taste was strong and the noodle was tender. Nothing much to say . The owner gave us their gyoza to try. Fast service, good prices, GREAT broths and firm noodles. I've eaten ramen in Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka, Kyushu, Sendai, and other smaller cities and towns in Japan, and this is as good. read more

Very fun interior, and many selections on the menu. No alcohol, but BYO with receipt was said on the menu. Tonkotsu broth was little oily/salty strong for old. Easy for young. Tonkotsu Chashu got lots of tasty Chashu. Noodle is winkled and firm, love it. read more

I hate this place , the noodles taste store bought . The broth tastes like Albertsons miso soup powder with tap water . The meat is horrible , it has pure fat with strange hard pieces, this place is a 0/10. I would rather get a cup a noodle , now that is highly recommended compared to this ! read more

Not very good. There are so so many better options within a few minutes drive. Tried spicy miso, tonkotsu, and dip Ramen. All just ok. If there were not any other Ramen shops within 5 miles then it's good but there are just too many better shops, as far as for me. The best thing was the ufo gyoza. I took my kids here a few days ago after finding it on Yelp and I really enjoyed their Spicy miso ... even if it wasn't very spicy!

I usually come here late at night for some Tokyo Yatai ramen. I enjoy the flavor as it isn't too salty even thought it is a soy sauce based ramen. Also when you order the extra noodles, it's a fair enough amount. I also appreciated the Japanese speaking waitress, it made it seem more appropriate. read more

Second visit to the place. Tried 'kaishio ramen' instead of the 'vegan ramen' which I tried last time. I feel so bad I cant go for the pork broth ramen, cause of my religious diet. I beleive the broth of Kaishio was made from the clams and stuffs, not super rich yet very flavorful. Decor was upgraded to more 'authentic?' kind of look back in old Japan. Pretty cool. read more

When it comes to getting decently priced tasty Ramen, this place is amazing. They have an awesome variety of Ramen, so there is always something that fits the mood you're in. The Rice Pilaf and UFO Gyoza are also really tasty, and the Karage comes with an incredibly tasty dressing, that goes really well with it. All around, this is one of my favorite Ramen spots in the Torrance/Gardena area. I also love that they have stamp cards, so if you come here about 3-4 times, one Ramen or at least some side dishes are free. read more

Great variety with authentic Japanese cuisine. The other reviewers that may have rated the food as average probably haven't been to Japan and have had real ramen-- just because you've been to a few other ramen spots in SoCal doesn't necessarily make you an expert. And yes, the gyoza is served with the crust of the batter/oil that connects all the pieces- if you're worried about these extra calories eating ramen and gyoza, I'm not sure what to say to that besides get a salad. The food and atmosphere reflect an authenticity that is nostalgic of Japan for us, and we appreciate it all during our dining experiences here. read more

Place was my go to spot for a really long time, but recently the waitresses are really pushy to leave tip and on multiple occasions even ran outside to say why didn't I tip....I leave tips whenever possible but sometimes it's not an option financially. I went there today and both me and my brother left a tip, my girlfriend politely asked the supervisor if in the future can they not ask for tips when not given and all she said was that if we don't know how a restaurant works and we said that all we don't want is someone coming after us for tips after we leave. She then responded that maybe next time don't come back if I'm gonna be that way. Overall this establishment has lost it and I won't be coming back because of the extremely rude service read more

Came here on a chilly night to get some hot and soupy ramen but inside of the restaurant was colder than outside and ramen was not hot at all. My buddy asked them heat it up again and they put it in a microwave. It came out super hot middle of the ramen bowl but soup was still not hot at all. read more

I really really love their spicy miso chasu ramen. My favorite of all. But their tonkotsu and other ramens are delicious too! Service is great. Ambience is ok. They play strage japanese stuff on tv or godzilla on the old skool fat tv but food never disappoint me. Plenty of parling in the plaza. Will always come back for sure read more

I really like this place, it legit feels like Japan, just missing the cigarette smoke. I haven't had the ramen but I've had a few of the other dishes and they're all delicious. The first time I had the Japanese curry which was perfect, not too spicy and nice and thick. I also had the mackerel appetizer which is one of my favorite things there, covered in bright yellow roe and scallions, the rice and fish both have the flavor and texture of bento box style sushi. Very good. Today I had the tuna sashimi bowl and loved it. The tuna was super fresh over piping hot rice. All the little veggies and ginger really complimented it well. We also had the UFO dumplings and they are THE BOMB! They come upside down with all the dough stuck together hence the UFO appearance. The dumplings are super moist and fresh and filled with great tasting things. Overall I recommend this place for folks looking for awesome tapas style Japanese food. Had the Spicy Miso Chashu. It was good. Excellent broth, really tasty Chashu. My only complaints are: 1) It is a bit expensive. With tax and tip I it was $18. All I drank was water. Also, too many bean sprouts ruins the texture. It was hard to take a bite of noodles without sprouts. Easy to fix next time. read more

Since learning about Ramen 30 years ago when I went to Japan for the first time and have been going every year since, Ramen in the USA has never tasted that good, even in a really good Japanese restaurant. Jidaiya has Ramen just like you would get in Japan, really really delicious. The big diffrence is the amount of time they cook the soup base and that special Japanese touch. This is more of a 3.5 rating, solid ramen if you're in the mood for something different with no line. Tried both the miso and spicy miso ramen. While the flavor is good, there isn't much miso in the broth. Real Sapporo miso ramen is heavy on fat and flavor (aka salt to some). The spicy miso was the better of the two. Overall, not bad -- it's more tonkotsu broth than miso tonkotsu. read more

It was a sad day learning that Chin Mah Yah closed their doors, so I definitely wanted to tray the new Ramen location. I always try to get here at least 10 minutes before noon as to hopefully beat the lunch crowd. The layout of the store is very nice as I sat in the bar like sitting area which behind the counter is where they prepare the food. I ordered the Tokyo Yatai and liked the ramen dish which had a nice chicken broth with half an egg, seaweed, bamboo and fish cake. I also ordered the ground chicken with rice on the side. I enjoyed the dishes and felt they were good, but I want to try the spicy ramen next time which I hope will taste closer to Chin Mah Yah dishes. A quality local spot in North Torrance. Order the Tokyo Yatai for a dinner meal that is not too heavy yet filling. The quality has always been consistent and the place has a steady stream of locals. I forget the name of their sea food noodle soup but is also very good. I hope to review it a few more times before I depart from Torrance. read more

Recently moved locations for work from West LA to Gardena. Love tsukemen ramen so was sad to leave the westside seeing as how eating at the Tsujita La annex was a once a week tradition. Glad to have found this wonderful establishment so close to my new location. Tsukemen isn't as good here but it is still delicious. Price is more reasonable compared to Tsujita so I'm not complaining. Only thing that kind of bummed me out the first time I came here was that I found out they don't serve tsukemen until after 2 pm. I normally like to take my lunch breaks at noon so that was a bit of a disappointment. Still great food and great service. read more

I tried both the Tonkotsu Miso and Spicy Miso. To be honest, the Spicy Miso was good but whatever. The Tonkotsu Miso was really something. The pork base was just amazingly flavourful and the noodles were thick. I LOVE tonkotsu...that's always my go-to and I think this one has been the best one I've tried in LA. Also, if they have Takoyaki in the "today's special" menu or I guess in the regular menu, you have to get it!! It's really good and best when it's hot. read more

Open late till 11pm is good to know. Great service and decor. Vegetable ramen broth was ridiculously good- tomatoey, surprisingly savory for being a vegetable broth. Really fantastic service. The broth is good and the pork is tender and tasty. Their UFO gyoza was perfect and I like that you can make your own dipping sauce with your preferred proportions. I think they're not quite as good as Yamadaya but their prices are lower. Lots of parking which is a big plus for me. read more

Wow! Totally impressed. Ordered the Tonkotsu Chasu Ramen. Got an extra egg. At first glance, I thought it looked nice. nothing special about the presentation. The servers were pleasant and attentive. My food came quickly. I took my first sip of the broth and my lord ... this is some fatty, savory broth they have here. Another sip ... it's porky, but something else as well. I can't put my finger on it, but I like it! Next I dove into the noodles ... BOOM, another hit! Thicker than most places and wonderfully chewy. LOVE THESE NOODLES!!!!! The meat is good and they don't skimp, but it's not Daikokuya melt in your mouth style. The price, $10. Fantastic meal, at a great price. Don't change a thing! You are a great restaurant and I will return. If there is anything I learned on this trip it's that now I understand that I don't know ramen at all. I thought I did, but this trip made me realize that I have a long way to go. It's also time to get back out to Gardena/Torrance again.
