First visit to this restaurant. Started with Crab Rangoon as an appetizer and each of the six was huge. Largest portions I have ever had. Entrees were similarly large and very tasty. Both my wife and I will get a second dinner out of what we brought home. Mine was served on a metal plate made to look like a shovel, which kept the food hot and was difficult to pick up to move the entree into the take-home box. Prices are also very good. Only downside was that the hours have changed from what we had seen, so they are closing during the week at 8:30 PM but most sites show it as 9 PM. read more

Greetings, I am on a journey to find the best pad thai in the United States. Unfortunately, Jin28 is not it. Not even close. I ordered the vegetarian pad thai, and it was BAD. Tasted like watered-down ketchup. Normally in these situations I would resort to munching on the veggies, but I couldn't even do that. They were stale and soggy. The dish was not hot, but just barely warm. Yuck. I couldn't even finish one bite. Major sadness. In fairness, the spring rolls and miso soup were ok. Today was the second time we ordered delivery from here and once again super happy with everything. Originally we focused on the Chinese menu items: we got crab Rangoon, orange chicken, and beef egg foo yung. All of it was delicious. Orange chicken was not overly sweet and the Rangoon were generously filled and very flavorful. My daughter is on the hunt for best crab Rangoon in the area and I think this is it. This time around she just wanted the rangoon so I decided to try a few of the simple sushi rolls to test the waters. Sometimes places serving multiple cuisines stumble on one or the other. But doesn't seem to be the case here. So far, sushi and Chinese are a hit with us. I got crunch rolls and yellowtail scallion. I chose plain for a reason, to check freshness. And I was very happy. Had ordered sushi from them before a couple of times and they're delicious. Yesterday I ordered "Chinese" dishes and they're unimpressive. I felt my $30 went to waste. Chicken in "dragon and phoenix" had too thick of a batter thus making it too chewy instead of crispy. Pad see ew was forgettable as well. It's just sweet tasting noodles with no other flavors. If you're going to eat here, just order their sushi and rolls and PASS on their Americanized chinese dishes. read more

We ordered a platter of sushi and several party trays for Christmas. This place is wonderful and the food is amazing. Embarrassing submission here, but I forgot to finalize our holiday order ‍ But the manager quickly pushed our order through. My family was very pleased with our selection and my uncles who are super picky, loved EVERYTHING. Thank you for your consistency in product (we've dined in and done carry out the last few years). My coworker and I stopped for a quick lunch and ordered off of their lunch menu. I ordered the Schzewan chicken and she ordered sesame chicken and the food was pretty good despite some of the comments. Service from this company is great, they're timely, and the food is always fresh. HOWEVER: The last few times I've ordered, the food has been off. Strange tasting. That, and I just ordered today a beef chop suey that was not seasoned at all. Plain beef in plain brown liquid, and the pot stickers we ordered were replaced with cold, dry gyoza, which is entirely different. This place is a solid option for sushi and Chinese food. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and the orange chicken lunch special which came with an egg roll, fried rice, and egg drop soup. The sushi rolls were ok, the spicy scallop roll was the best of the 2 I would get this again. The spicy crunch roll was kind of bland and no crunch to it at all. The rolls looked great and held together well though, I would definitely come back to try some other ones out. The fried rice was very tasty with good sized little bits of chicken in it, I would come here just for the rice alone lol. The orange chicken was ok the sauce was really good and had nice orangey taste to it but my husband & I agreed the chicken was a bit soggy. We might get this again and just get the sauce on the side though to see if that helps the sogginess because it was good. The restaurant itself is pretty nice inside, very modern and cozy. Jin 28 is a new restaurant that opened about a week ago. They started off doing everything right. At least the beginnings. They did a mass mailing to the area with a nicely done color menu. At the top it boasts "Tastier, Healthier Asian Food". It's a real attention getter. The other thing that really caught my eye was that they severed Chinese, Thai and Japanese foods. Now that you don't see every day! They also make fresh sushi. We were determined to try this place right away. It looked too good to be true. So we started out simply by calling in a carry out order. The phone rang for a long time before it was answered. Then a very rushed sounding gentleman answered the phone. He made me feel like I was bothering him with an order. So I hurriedly placed my order with this borderline rude gentleman and prepared to go pick it up. Once we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted by a happy hostess with a huge smile on her face. She was authentically kind and friendly. The atmosphere of the dining area was very well done. Nice décor, large open area seating with both booths and tables. The place was new looking and fresh. It was diner hour on Saturday night and it was not busy. The word probably hasn't gotten out yet I assumed. So let's get to the heart of this review with the results of this dining experience. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken, my wife had shrimp fried rice, that we shared, and we had an order of vegetable egg rolls. The Pad Thai is an easy test for me to give a new place claiming to serve Thai food. The dish contained a small amount of chicken served with a heaping amount of noodles and two lime wedges. Missing from the entre, according to the menu, was bean sprouts, egg, tofu, green onion, lemon and carrots. Yes, you read correctly. All the ingredients that are required to make Pad Thai were missing. The dish was orange colored which I have never seen before. It was tasty but not Pad Thai. It was also very dry. I ordered a large which was really huge so I will go for the small size upon my return. The Shrimp Fried Rice was also very dry. It had good flavor but was too light tasting overall. The Vegetable Egg Rolls had a thick crust/casing and was good overall. However the menu said it is served with peanut sauce which was missing from our order. I have to conclude that the lightness of the items were due to their claim of "Healthier" Asian Food? I really am uncomfortable criticizing a new venue but this had to be done. I have never ever not given a place a second chance though. Especially a new place. So I will someday return to try a different menu item and see if they improved over time. But for now, the two stars are for the friendly hostess and the nice environment of the dining area. read more

I think you can tell a lot about a place by their broccoli beef! I stopped in Jin 28's their first week open around 4pm on a weekday. Although I was the only person dining in they had quite a few to go orders in the time I was there. They have a very expansive and reasonably priced menu and have done some nice redecorating since taking over from the previous restaurant. I decided on an order of egg rolls and broccoli beef+add mushroom. I'm picky about my egg rolls but these came out hot and crispy and the mixture inside was really good. The broccoli beef was great too. The broccoli was cooked well and the beef was good quality. The sauce was a little thick for me but had a good flavor. My server was attentive and seemed excited about their being open, I hope they are around a long time and I look forward to trying their Thai menu as welland they even have Pho! *Update, I have also now tried sweet and sour chicken and sweet and sour shrimp. This is my new go to Chinese/Thai place when I'm visiting my parents. It's been awhile since Carol Stream has had a decent Chinese takeaway but my god does Jin 28 exceed all expectations. During quarantine I've orders from here about five times and every time is better than the last. What I love is they have a wide variety of menu items from Chinese classics to Thai classics to sushi. There really is something for everybody. My go to is the beef ladna and egg rolls. I'd post a photo but I usually dive in right away. The noodles are pan fried and crispy. And the sauce is just delightful. You really can't go wrong with anything you order here. Everything is delicious. Right now the staff is taking extra precautions and wearing gloves and masks when bringing your to go order out. Which I love. They're going above and beyond for safety measures which is fantastic. The egg fu yung was less firm then we usually like it, but good. The spicy chicken was good and the rice perfectly cooked. Egg rolls a tad soggy but good. We will give them another shot when nearby. We had a really bad experience on a Friday night. We wanted to place a carry out order and nobody would answer the phone! I went online and placed it, but it doesn't give an estimated pick up time, so I had to call to find out what that was. I had to call 3 times and let it ring about 10 times each before they answered. I was desperate for my gluten free food! So I go to pick up and I was told they were short staffed. My order was ready so I grabbed it and left. It was a big order. $$$ I got home and couldn't wait for my general tso chicken and discovered it wasn't in the bag!!!! Huge disappointment and many cuss words. I had to (you know the next word here) CALL because I wanted a refund. Again no answer but I wasn't giving up at this point. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the complimentary egg roll that came with lunch. It had cumin- Indian-like flavor to it that made it flavorful, balanced with cabbage and other veggies that maintained the familiar Asian American egg roll taste. The egg drop soup seemingly didn't have anything but eggs in it but the taste meets the norm you'd find in a Chinese takeout. The food is so good, for sure one of the most superior Chinese take out places in the area BUT the reason that I take two stars always is that the customer service is HORRIBLE!!!
