We got the orange chicken, fried rice, egg roll, and hot and sour soup. The orange chicken was dry and the flavor was overall disappointing, the fried rice was lack luster, honestly some of the weakest fried rice i have ever had. The eggroll tasted good but it was very soggy, probably needed to be fried longer, the hot and sour soup was pretty weak it was like salty corn starch water. If you are craving some bomb chinese food, look elsewhere. I honestly do not like giving negative reviews because i want independent places to succeed. The food at JJ Chinese Express is absolutely delicious! The lunch specials make for a cheap midday meal on the move. The dinner menu is relatively affordable and most importantly quite tasty. JJs has some of the best orange chicken and sesame chicken I've ever had. Chicken breast chunks of high quality cooked to absolute perfection! My wife digs the sweet and sour chicken and chow mein. This places takeout service is amazing. The food itself was flavorful and delicious. My boyfriend and I ordered half portions of the beef broccoli and sweet and sour chicken and they more than enough to get us full. I thought it was very clever of them to put the sweet and sour sauce on the side so you could just dip the chicken into the sauce, it made it so that the chicken maintained it's crispness. Really good prices. The amounts are large. My kids and I had leftovers for the whole next day. Lol. Which is good because good leftover Chinese food is hard to find. The hot and sour soup wasn't bad but it wasn't the best I've had. Bit more sour than desired. The egg rolls were a little greasy but were tasty. The combo chow mien was just okay. I couldn't tell if it was the too thick, greasy noodles or the slightly sweet beef that was turning me off but it wasn't the chow mien I had my heart set on. Not to say it was bad just wasn't my cup of chow mien. Lol. The orange chicken was great! I also loved the fried rice. Think I will stick with those items in the future. The delivery via Yelp was easy and fast. My reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was NOT because of the chow mien....well maybe a little but mainly because the driver was sitting in his car in the street expecting me to come to him. Yes Long Beach parking sucks but I think I was more than helpful by coming out of my apartment and down the stairs.....now I have to walk in the street.....Instead of him pulling into my driveway and meeting me at the gate?!?!? Add to that annoyance....he was rushing me! ‍So hungry and with my already paid for food in the street I went to get my food from him....idk if it was my annoyed look or the tip he saw in my hand that made him finally get out the car but I was already at the passenger door. I have not eaten at this place for many years but tonight I was really craving Chinese food & I decided to order take out from here because my boyfriend was going to the taco truck that's in the parking lot over. I remember really liking their veggie chow mien & steamed broccoli and white rice plate. So I went ahead and ordered that online with a side of veggie fried rice to try it out. My pickup time said about 1 hour but working at a restaurant i know grub hub & eat 24 tend to exaggerate the time. So after about 15 mins I went in & picked it up. It was ready, piping hot and smelled pretty good. So i get home and open the chow mien first. The noodles are way over cooked, salty and i just did not enjoy them. Then the fried rice had a burnt taste to it. What really made me upset was my broccoli. When i ordered it I made sure it was the "plain broccoli", just steamed broccoli nothing else. Well it was covered in a sauce. I tried one & hated it. No where on the menu does it say it would be drenched in sauce. The broccoli was limp and soggy. I barely ate any of my food & I was out $20. So disappointed and dissatisfied with this place. Won't be returning for good. read more

After giving JJ Chinese Express a shot I doubt I will ever go anywhere else for Chinese again. They deliver, free! Min of $15. I love cream cheese won tons aka crab ragoons. I was a little surprised at the price, $5.59 for an order. Then I looked at the size of the order, you get 10 of them for that price. They are well worth it, fried fresh. When ordering for delivery they wrap each package in plastic so it does not leak and remains hot. By the time you get your food you have to blow on it or let it cool its still that fresh and hot. They also use pieces of cardboard between each container to keep them from getting crushed by each other. When getting take out from most Chinese places the noodles or rice is in the front larger section with the meat and veggies in the back smaller section, not here. Here its reversed. The portions are enormous and inexpensive. An example, I ordered a half order of broccoli beef for under $6 and ragoons. I got 3 huge meals out of those 2 items. So far every time I have ordered I have received my delivery in under 20 minutes. Tip your driver! They really are fast, the food is hot, never anything wrong and remember most places charge a delivery fee, this place does not. The only thing I am not overly fond of here is the fried rice. I love egg fried rice, here they use pork. There is a lot of pork in the rice and its good but I miss the egg I prefer. Items my family has ordered so far and been thrilled with... Shrimp fried rice 20+ pieces of shrimp, 2 egg rolls and choice of soup or soda under $10. Broccoli Beef, broccoli was a nice vibrant green, cooked perfectly Sesame Chicken. OMG there was so much chicken it took 3 of us each 2 meals to eat most of it. This is perfect for sharing. Mongolian Beef, this is the one item I would not order again. It contained more scallion tops than anything and that overtook the rest of the dish. I prefer the whole scallion or the end white part to the green tops. Cream Cheese Won Ton's 10 of them for $5.59 you cannot go wrong! Its impossible to go wrong with these in my experience. Egg Rolls, they are more like spring rolls than egg rolls but still delicious Sweet and sour sauce, they do not charge for this and they deliver it in a large container. I am guessing an easy 8 oz, plenty to share. You also receive packets of sriracha and soy sauce. If you want chop sticks make sure you put that in the memo at the end of the order screen. If you spend over $30 you get a free 2 liter of soda. All I can really say about this is, if you are ordering that much food you need a dozen people to eat it. That is how large the portions are. Even the half portions are huge. A half portion is almost twice the size of a 3 item plate at panda express. If you want to substitute rice for noodles it is an additional $2 charge. You cannot do this on the order screen. Simply put it in the memo for the item ordered. They call you within moments of the order being placed online and let you know about the added fee. You simply pay that $2 in cash to your delivery driver. Make sure you have cash on you if you do this. The noodles are fabulous, not dry and have a nice flavor. read more

Well I finally found it here. I went here and ordered my Hot & Sour soup, 2 veggie egg rolls and Sweet & Sour pork to go and it was made to order which I liked, no warming trays with food sitting out . My order was ready in 15 min and the soup was steaming hot which was great since I was driving home with it. My soup was perfectly flavored and just enough spice and a big container for only $4.99 and came with crunchy Chinese noodles to top it with. Yum. The egg rolls were good as well and the Sweet & Sour pork was delicious. The coating on the pork was crunchy and light not greasy and the pork had good flavor. It comes with white rice and a large container of sweet & sour sauce and was a generous portion of food. The food all had good flavor and was fresh. The highest quality vegetables I have ever eaten at an American-Chinese restaurant. My Kung Pao Tofu had zucchini in it! Tender, perfectly marinated and sautéed fresh zucchini, along with carrots, celery, mushroom, and water chestnuts. No baby corn or cabbage to be seen here. When I opened my enormous serving of bean curd and saw all of these bright fresh vegetables, I knew it was going to be good. The tofu was firm and crisp, and fully flavored by the subtly spicy Kung Pao sauce. The flavors were bold and savory without being overly salty, and there seemed to be minimal oil in the dish. While this certainly made the dish healthier, it was a bit dry-I will ask for more sauce next time. The price for one enormous family size portion was $8 with tax, which included a side of steamed white rice. I sat inside and ate some of it there, and was amazed at the volume of orders this place cranks out. In the 20 minutes I was there, I saw upwards of 40 delivery bags go out. Props to the sweet ladies working for creating such good quality food so quickly. They accept Visa and MasterCard. Highly recommended. read more

Just driving through Long Beach and it was time for a late lunch. Jumped onto "Yelp" and they brought us here. "JJ Chinese Express" is probably the best food in this working class part of town. We were hungry and decided to stay and try it. Sure glad we did!! The food was excellent! Wthout consulting, we both decided on Orange Chicken with Fried Rice on the "Lunch Special" menu. The Fried Rice was a little better than average. The Orange Chicken was Outstanding!!! I have had some Orange Chicken at other places that was almost inedible, but JJ is some of the best! No bits that were overcooked or undercooked as I have had a few times. The Lunch menu included a Spring Roll, and like everyting else, it was perfectly prepared. JJ's has a good menu with great items you don't always see. I'm still not sure how they make money with their portion sizes. Amazing that for about $12-15 you can gorge yourself. Always a better choice than any quick Chinese, better than many sit down Chinese too, it is sure to satisfy if not impress. Friday night, ordered at eight, wonder how long for my delivery? Here by 8:30 not bad for Friday. Everything hot and WAY more than I could eat. Honey garlic chicken is more chicken than batter in a 24oz? Tub. At least 4 servings. I usually order the orange chicken, general tso chicken, pork fried rice, shrimp fried rice, spring rolls, garlic chicken, and steamed dumplings. Can't complain about anything. It's all pretty good. ** FOOD POISONING ** Call it what you want, but I'm just here to tell you that this food was not great going down and was much worse coming back up. Sorry to be graphic, but I have a very strong stomach, probably cause I'll eat ANYTHING, so be forewarned. (I'm serious, I'm not a picky eater at all and if left over raw fish sushi doesn't make me sick idk what they did to their food.) So, if you're like me and ignore reviews that say food poisoning cause you assume your iron stomach will be fine and you just want the cheap delivery and you want it now, here is my review of the food pre-incident: The chicken chow mein was good, no veggies or anything in it just chicken and noodles which was fine. Would've ordered this again. The "Sweet and Sour Chicken" was a HUGE disappointment. It was just breaded chicken "nuggets" basically that came with some crappy, thin, "sweet and sour" sauce on the side. What the heck is that?? Where are the onions and pineapple, and what? You couldn't put the sauce ON the chicken? It was just weird.. I've never received sweet and sour anything like that before and I hope I don't again. FINALLY, the honey walnut prawns. They were DISGUSTING. The sauce - gross, the tough and over-cooked "prawns" -inedible, the bland and flavorless breading - ugh. AND THEY WERE $13. Also I'm pretty convinced these are what made me sick since the rest was just chicken? I really couldn't be sure. I SINCERELY wish I could have my $40 dollars back, my dinner and evening were just ... unfortunate. P.S. To be fair the food did arrive in the delivery time and it arrived hot (the chow mein especially seemed "fresh") and they put chopsticks in the bag which is more than I can say for the Thai place I recently went to. I order the $3 hot and sour soup and it was a little bland, but they give a LOT for $3! So that was awesome.
