Arrived on tuesday night at 6pm, , would not seat us at the open tables until the other couple showed up...when they arrived 15 minutes later, we were told wait would be 45 minutes..Rules are rules but how they are communicated makes a big difference..the young man seating guests might have just told us to go away! read more

Met one of my oldest friends along with my young son for dinner here. It was recommended by a frid who's a bit of a foodie. We arrived late on a Saturday evening, about 8:00. There was a 40 minute wait. We hung out on their outdoor patio. There are tables and chairs and stools there. They have an appetizer me up to order from while you wait. We had the cheese plate which came with several types of cheeses and some warm toasted almonds, bread and jelly. Super savory. Tided us over until we got our table about ten mi items earlier than anticipated. All three of us had the burger. It was finger licking good. Serious flavor, mine was a bit spicy, with a fantastic amount of fries. I'm not sure what else I can say. It was so tender and juicy and still so tasty. And it wasn't ridiculously priced for a gourmet burger...I believe it's made from ground ribeye. Adam, the executive Chef came round to the table about halfway through our meal and we had a nice chat, then he stopped by again after we were done to get the full report on our experience. I always appreciate a friendly chef who enjoys chatting up the guests as Adam does. It adds to the experience for me. I highly room no this joint. Went for lunch and waited only 20 minutes for a table. My husband and I both ordered the fried chicken sandwich with jalapeño/cilantro slaw and fries. The chicken was delicious as was the slaw. Our french fries were right out of a frozen package and two fries on my plate were still frozen. I asked the co-owner why they would use frozen fries and he said the kitchen was told the night before to stop using frozen french fries and make fresh but apparently they didn't listen. I will go back because there are lots of items on the menu I still want to try and the service is really good. read more

Immediately after dinner we were relaxing and talking when the waitress asked if we would move outside so they could have the table. So for me the food is just 4 stars: despite excellent fries, succulent home-grown honey and a small but mighty wine list, the baked beans in the Picnic Chicken were undercooked and the potato salad was too starchy and dill-y; the burger was actually too big to get in my big mouth, and disintegrated during the effort from being left to sit in its own ample juices. But, whatever. It's just food. The star of the show is the ambience at this stylish, friendly little roadhouse that just feels... happy. The staff are casual but very pleasant and knowledgable about both the food and the wine. The room is efficient without feeling cramped. The design is clean and bright yet comfortably rustic, with fabulous evening light and ample window-walls that admit wonderful cross-breezes. A long, comfortable bar and garden patio offer plenty of options for seating and socializing. The menu will change and the prep can improve... but the fundamentals of a great space are all in place, and I look forward to ending another day here soon. read more

Darn good grub! We met here for lunch because my boss & her son just flew in from AZ, we drove in from Santa Cruz and Tessa & Mark were meeting with the wine buyer. My burger was med rare just as ordered. The carmelized onions and tomato jam were perfect seasonings for the well-flavored ribeye burger. The hand cut fries were crispy good & salty & so addictive. The fried chicken sando was overflowing with kimchee, chili sauce & pickled jalapeños & looked awesome. I will get that next time. Nice & simple decor with lots of light and outside seating. I had been eager to try this place so when my dad's birthday came up and I saw it as a great opportunity to take care of two things at the same time. We came for lunch and arrived about 15 min early(thanks Yelp tips). We were the second in line when they opened and probably about 10 people behind us. The place is cozy and doesn't fit a lot of people. They say they can accommodate tables of 6 but it would be interesting to see how they do that. Ordering is a little different than most restaurants. Here you place your order and take a number for the food to be brought out to you. I don't know if I like this system but it made it more difficult if you wanted to add anything else to your order after you were done. I did my usual whenever I try a new restaurant. I ordered everything that they are suppose to be known for. So we ordered the chicken sandwich, ribeye sandwich and chilaquiles. Everything was awesome. I liked the ribeye sandwich a little more than the chicken sandwich. But I would order both again. Definitely will come back here again. read more

Hands down one if not the best restaurant in silicon valley, they grow their own herbs and vegetables organically on the roof, menu changes daily, great food and service. Beer selection is small but great same with the wine. Everything is fresh. Sean the owner is always there greeting guests and making sure your meal is perfect. Hangar Steak - asked for very very rare but it came medium or medium well, very disappointing!!! especially since there was a photo with a nice rare steak from another customer and this was the dinner for a birthday celebration! - Would add another star if the steak was properly cooked as requested. - Corn fritters --- so so, hardly any corn but flavor was good - Chicken - very tender but needs some flavoring, sauce or condiment - Cinnamon bread pudding was a little dry and could use more carmel topping to add some sweetness, it came with a scoop of ice cream (which was very icy Not sure I would go back given the many choices for similar cuisine in the area. Went for dinner on a Tuesday evening w a girlfriend. Very cool atmosphere, love the heat lamps and the patio in general. We started w the red pepper fritters which were absolutely delicious. Warm olives were good. I had the tagine and my friend the Indian chicken. My friend loved her dish. Mine was very good, very fresh. Loved the dish but could have used a tiny but more flavor. Five stars for atmosphere and service. Overall, four stars with a hit or miss menu. Thankfully, it's mostly hits that are healthy and flavorful (just a few exceptions that may have been due to initial kinks). I got the bacon hash which may not sound like much, but it had the most perfectly soft poached egg on top with the best hollandaise I've had in a very long time. The bacon lardons were delicious. As many have said, they have a limited menu and I am a vegetarian, so this place disappoints. The kale salad was average, you can get something similar all over the place in San Carlos, my entree was not memorable, bland. The ambiance is super cool, very modern setting. If you are going to have a short menu, every dish should be great, this was not the case. I actually left this restaurant and went to get dessert somewhere else to salvage my overall meal. Came here for lunch last month. Had the fried chicken sandwich. Crispy and juicy - would get it again. My friend had the ribeye burger and it looked pretty standard, but he said it was good. Amazing food and ambiance was great. We sat outdoor. There were 7 of us for lunch and we ordered one of each item on the menu to share. We also shared the 3 desserts that they had. The salads, pastas and burgers were all so delicious. The chocolate cake, custard-like dessert and apple pie were all so good too. We all were full and satisfied. This is definitely one of the best meal we've had and we all dine out quite often. The place is pretty small but clean. San Carlos needs more restaurants like this. Fresh, seasonal, unique comfort food. Nice place to come for a glass of wine and appetizers. The food has definitely improved since they first opened. Ordered a Croque Madam, watermelon Bellini, and Bloody Mary, and scones. The scones were amazing, Bloody Mary completely undrinkable (too salty, bitter, unbalanced) Bellini didn't have any watermelon taste - not enough watermelon, and the Croque Madam was soggy. That said, the service was wonderful and ambiance was really, really nice. Perhaps the bartender was off and I ordered the wrong thing. The reviews of this place are so good that I think l need to come back to try it out again and will update.
