My mom wanted to celebrate her 80th birthday here so we had a party of 24 at Jong Ga House. The tables are setup in a way that you can only have 8 per table so our party took up three tables. It made it hard to interact with everyone outside of the tables were seated at. We ordered the all you can eat bbq and for $32 per person, it's a great deal. Our table ordered pork belly, rib eye steak, and the marinated bone in beef (Kalbi). We also ordered pot stickers and spicy rice cake (tteok bokki). They were delicious as was the spicy tofu soup (soondubu jjigae). The food was great but like others commented, the service was lacking. Our server came to the table angry and could not be bothered by our requests. It was unfortunate as we tried our best to be polite and accommodating for our large party. An 18% gratuity is added to all parties of 5 or more so there probably isn't an incentive to provide stella service. We accidentally left one of my mom's gifts at the restaurant and when I called to ask about it, they said it wasn't found. That was extremely disappointing. In my opinion, the best Korean food is in LA or at a Korean mom's house. Jong Ga House will satisfy your craving if you don't have either but just know the service will be meh. read more

Hmm.. Came here on a Friday and joined the waitlist on Yelp. My waitlist experience: 2/5. Waitlist told me to be there at a certain time, but I wasn't seated till at least an hour and a half later. There were people who checked in after us that got seated before us (maybe because they were borderline harassing the workers to seat them). My food experience: 2/5. The meats were soooooo weak. Probably the saddest kbbq meat I've ever had in my life. (I know, I sound so dramatic). I had the bulgogi (which had no flavor and was full of fat), spicy pork (have had better), brisket (dry and flavorless). Went here for dad's bday. Wanted to give a shot to a local kbbq instead of gen or ohgane. Unfortunately the banchan had a screw in it. When this was brought to the manager, she looked at the tongs and scissors to see if they were missing screws. They were not. Service is fine. food is fine. Floors extremely slippery from grease? Great quality meats and choices for a decent price. And to top it off, service was phenominal! They were so kind to figure out space for us for a last minute reservation! We really appreciated it! It was date night when we showed up for the first time at Jong Ga House (or more like "date afternoon" since I made the reservation for 2:00 PM). It doesn't seem like much from the outside and that's ok since we are very into "mom and pop" places. As we walked in and waited to be seated, a friendly server greeted us and walked us right in. Immediately brought in the menu with water. I guess we looked like we've been there before because the server asked if we were ready to order just as she returned with the nine servings of "banchan" (side dishes in Korean). It was perfect for us since we were already hungry and it was easy to choose from the items on the menu. We started off with the ribeye, spicy chicken and boneless barbecue ribs. Ufff! The chicken and ribs were delicious! The ribeye... could have been better. It was not as tender as I expected or as tender as the chicken and ribs. The portions are considerable and my wife and I were getting full. We ordered two more items, the pork belly (flavorful) and the shrimp (tender and just the right amount of salt (of course it was... we seasoned it.) I don't know if it was the owner but she came towards the end and was surprised that we didn't want to order more. lol. What can I say, we're not heavy eaters. Though, we can appreciate great food at a reasonable price and fast friendly service. Would we come back?? Definitely! For another date night and with the kids too. PS. We came for my mom's birthday. I called beforehand and was told there wouldn't be a long wait. We waited about five minutes as they set the table up. There was one male staff that did most of the work, while another woman brought stuff to the tables. The male staff was the person we asked for most of what we needed since he was on the floor. He was super busy since he was literally taking care of all tables. I did notice the variety of meat is not as much as other kbbq restaurants I've been to. The meat quality is okay. I do not recommend getting the pig intestine (I think it was pig). It was hard to cook and got super mushy. Every other meat was ok. We got a tofu stew that someone didn't get so they offered it to us. It was pretty good! We got the cold noodles and it was a super long wait for it but it wasn't bad. AYCE KBBQ is roughly $40 after tax and tip. Highlights for me were the ribeye steak and bibim guksu (spicy cold noodles). Their steamed egg, my fav, costs extra. I got the intestines which were more mushy than fatty, but they were also small and I prefer large. I really enjoyed this place! One of the better experiences I've had at kbbq. I had dinner with my friends on a Tuesday night. We joined the Yelp waitlist on the way to the restaurant and got seated right away. The service here is top notch. The servers were super friendly and always check in up on us if we wanted to order anything else. Like I mean QUICK which is nice when it's AYCE. Oh, and AYCE is $30 which is a super good price IMO. The food is really good quality and marinated well. Bulgogi, LA short ribs, octopus and garlic pork belly were the stars of the night. The side dishes are really good. Dul Sot BiBimBop- a clay pot rice dish with a plethora of vegetables with Bulgogi meat. I love the crunchy crisp rice that comes from using the clay pot & the meat isn't overly sweet without sacrificing flavor. Bulgogi Dish w.lettuce & sauce-the meat was tender with no heavy sugary glaze. It was well marinated & what made it healthier was having it made into a lettuce wrap with their light brown sauce. We made a reservation for 6PM but still ended up waiting nearly 30 minutes to be seated. I can understand 10-15 minutes but any longer just defeats the purpose of reserving. That being said, the servers were very kind and knew they messed up. They provided us with a complimentary side dish for our inconvenience. I appreciate the gesture but would have preferred to be seated on time : ). If you have been to Gen in South Bay you'll know how flavorful their meat is. I couldn't quite say the same about the meat here. I couldn't tell which one was beef and which one was pork belly which is kind of alarming. The difference should be easily distinguished. The brisket was tasty and had an underlying butter taste to it. Grill change was a weird experience. They moved the raw meat into our plates that had cooked meat.... We had to recook everything for sanitation purposes... I haven't been to Gen since I moved to Emeryville, but I don't believe they do something like this during their grill change. Gen also frequently changes grills without you asking. Ours was extremely burnt and black before someone noticed. Their birthday celebrations is pretty cool and engaging. They turn off all the music and play the "happy birthday" song over the speakers so everyone is involved. Might be annoying if there are multiple birthdays during your dining session. Their music choice were slaps of yesteryear which I quite enjoyed haha. Made me feel very nostalgic hearing older songs. We always get Ohgane when it comes to KBBQ in the bay area, especially if you're in the north bay. I'm from south bay so when I usually hang out with my boyfriend in the north bay, I struggle to find good asian food Im a picky eater and when I say I LOVE this place, trust me. I saw a review that their pork was dry, my boyfriend (who usually only let me order one pork belly at Ohgane cause we're scared I can't finish it myself) liked it a lot and let me order another place LOL. So I guess it was preference, I like drier pork belly so it was delicious. Service was one of the best! They were really nice and quick serving and always checking up on you. Food is very delicious. Would come back here for the food. However our waiter, Lucas, was the worst server I have ever had in all my years of living. We asked for food items multiple times and he never brought it out. When we would try to get his attention, he would cut us off mid speaking and say he will be back (he never came back he actually hid behind the bar the whole time). I would recommend for management to speak to him because he is the sole and only reason why I would not come back. Although most of my friends and I wanted to go here, one of my friends was very hesitant because he had a previous bad experience here, where the service and meat quality was absolutely awful. Note: throughout our whole experience at Jong Ga House, the service was extremely slow and not in a way where they were to busy to remember us (although they were fairly busy) but in a way where we felt ignored and forgotten about. A couple of times, our plates weren't brought out or the waiter/waitress ignored us or said they would come back and never did. However, we didn't mind too much as we were pretty easy going and just talked among ourselves while waiting. The reason why I give this place 5 stars despite the service then is because of the menu and foods. I absolutely love how you can also choose to eat so many small bites without ordering extra as it comes on the AYCE package. This was the biggest reason as I've never seen a place that includes this much in their AYCE. The quality of the food was also alright too and the place was pretty clean. Up in the Oakland area, this is definitely my recommendation to get some kbbq. Meats are so juicy and flavorful, and at a comparable price point when you compare other kbbqs places in the area. They can get busy, but they're busy for a reason. Aside from the meats, they have lots of veggie additives you can ask for like lettuce wraps, rice wraps, garlic, onions, etc. which I appreciated! 4.5 stars, and my favorite of the KBBQ AYCE options in Oakland. They're a less shiny environment than Ohgane, but I love the no-frills mom and pop operations here. The bathroom could use an update, but otherwise I wasn't at all worried about covid or other issues of cleanliness to dining. I was so grateful to get a reservation for our large group of 10 for dinner on Friday - and surprised considering I called the day before. I definitely recommend a reservation on Yelp or by calling, because even so we had a tiny bit of a wait while they cleared tables for us and the front area was packed with groups that were on the Yelp waiting list (I think it was 10 parties on the iPad when we walked in around 7.30 pm). Food was fast, and we never had to flag down a server or wait long for drinks and other things to come out. They were even so attentive they noticed when someone dropped a napkin and their chopsticks, immediately appearing to replace with fresh ones. They won't come around and check how you are doing and help with grilling. I like doing my own cooking, but if you are expecting that service from other KBBQ experiences, you won't get it here and understandably so, as they are very busy getting orders out. The array of banchan is the best I've found. The quality and selection of meats are also excellent, while the seafood can be skipped. I have also dined here with my nephew outside of AYCE.
