It's an old restaurant axiom that while the food's meh, there's lots of it. I ordered Chicken Katsu and it was served promptly. By the way, service was very friendly and accommodating. The Chicken Katsu came with an iceberg lettuce salad and 2 large ice cream cone scoops of white rice. The chicken was pounded very thin to give the illusion of quantity. It was cooked at least once before because the chicken was dry. I left almost half of it uneaten, heresy in my book. This is probably the best teriyaki place we have found near us! Not so salty that you feel it for hours. And the girl taking your order will help guide you to exactly the meal you are craving. I purchased takeout twice from this location. Both times NOT impressed! Teriyaki chicken is not browned at all...Just looked like boiled chicken. The first time I got teriyaki to go there the was absolutely no teriyaki sauce on the chicken or in the bag!!! Decided to give them one more shot. Tried shrimp fried rice. Not good at all! No seasoning! Brown rice didn't taste or look wok fried had frozen green beans and carrots. I prefer fresh. Now the shrimp...They looked like they were frozen and quickly thawed. Flavorless small shrimp no grill marks. I won't be back! I will continue to go to Ichi Teriyaki. Cheaper and quality is much higher. read more

I love Joy Teriyaki! This place should have a frequent buyer card for how often regulars come through. Fisher people are paying these guy's kids' college tuition they're here so much. But for real, it's delicious, cheap, consistent, fast, enough said. I think the chicken is higher quality than some other teriyaki spots, but the sauce is thinner. The chicken veggie stir fry is great. If you want spicy, try somewhere else. The spicy is more zesty than hot, but nonetheless a good spot for the area. read more

This is a great place! The flavor of the food is wonderful! Glad there's place that makes Teriyaki bowls at a reasonable price in Vancouver, without having to drive to Portland. I used to go over to Du's grill until I got a long, black hair in my food which ended our relationship about 6 years ago! I have ZERO tolerance for nastiness! This place used to be good, but lately seems to have gone downhill. Today it took over 20 minutes to get food when it wasn't busy. Several people who ordered after me got their food first and had time to nearly finish before I finally got mine. They didn't even bother apologizing. I ordered two chicken bento boxes thinking that the portions would be enough for two people, I was wrong. You could feed a family of four with the amount of food that was included. I love going to Joy Teriyaki and enjoying the free hot tea while listening to the chopping and lively kitchen sounds that let you know real cooking is happening in there! I decided to try this place since they were new........it was awful!! I got the the teriyaki chicken, egg roll combo with fried rice and an order of orange chicken. The teriyaki chicken was good, nothing exciting. But the Orange chicken was just, GROSS!! It had no orange flavor and had a mushy coating of some kind. It was like day old food you heated up in the microwave the next day. And the fried rice had this.......old oily taste to it.....kinda like it was semi fried in oil they'd used all day. We couldn't eat it. $20 bucks down the drain. Next time I have a craving for Chinese food, I'll go to Panda Express or Green Tea. read more

We came at 6:00 for takeout, and it was a bit of a wait but not excessive. The place was mostly full, which is a good sign, so we understood the reason for the wait. The spicy chicken breast and teriyaki beef were phenomenal- perhaps the best we have had. The side options are excellent, though the egg rolls and gyoza may have been from frozen. They were very good so we don't hold that against them. One thing, though, is there are more options on the paper menu next to the cash register than show on the menu boards. Love teriyaki and we support local family owned businesses as much as possible, so were really happy to find this Joy Teriyaki location in Hazel Dell near our new house. It has been a very long time since I left a bad review for a restaurant, but this place deserves it. Their menu says make your own combo - choose 2 or 3 items. So I told her I wanted the 3 choice combo, and I wanted 2 orders of chicken and one of beef. She said I couldn't do that, I had to choose 3. I told her I did choose 3 - 1 chicken, plus 1 chicken, plus 1 beef equals 3. She said no again and told me I had to choose something different. I told her if the chicken was more expensive than the other choices I would be happy to pay the difference. She said it's not more expensive, but you can't choose 2 chickens, you have to choose something like pork, or salmon, or shrimp. I told her we don't eat pork or salmon or shrimp, I want chicken. She said no. We went around like this for a few minutes because I honestly thought I was misunderstanding something, I've never had anyone tell me I wasn't allowed to order the type of meat I wanted. Finally I gave up and said I would have a 2 item combo - 1 chicken, 1 beef. Got home and we were so disappointed in the food. The "salad" is nothing but iceberg lettuce with a couple shreds of carrot. The sauce was just ok, the chicken and beef were both dry and the beef was super tough, it took me a while to figure out what the weird taste was on the fried rice and I finally realized it tastes like really old grease from a grill or some other cooking item that hasn't been cleaned for weeks. We always save our leftovers and eat them the next night, but this food went to our dogs, there is no way we were going to eat any more of it. The prices were at the high end or even more than other small teriyaki restaurants in the area, and the other restaurants have much better food. Obviously we'll never go here again. read more

Competitor is better option down the road. I came from there because they were closed New Years Eve, and I got a Chicken Yakisoba from here. It did not contain very much chicken at all... About $10 and I am still hungry. I get lots more food when I go to the other place. The taste is great, so if you aren't too hungry or concerned about portion size, it'll get the job done. I just tried this place on Saturday for the first time and I am disappointed that I waited so long to eat here. The food is fantastic. I ordered the Chicken Katsu and it was fantastic. I also tried the California rolls and enjoyed those. My whole family enjoyed their meal. My 2 sons enjoyed their spicy Chicken Teriyaki bowls, my nephew loved his beef teriyaki bowl. As soon as I walked in, I should have walked out. Instead of the normal little Korean lady with broken English and FANTASTIC teriyaki (that you usually find in this type of place) we were greeted by a young male of Indian descent who was friendly enough but not inspiring. I asked if the spicy chicken teriyaki was "the real deal" or was it "white people" kind of hot. He admitted it was the latter. BTW, I'm not racist by any stretch of the imagination. Those of us who appreciate spicy know what "white people hot" means: not so much. He said they could bring it a little hotter, so I ordered the spicy chicken with fried rice in lieu of white and the usual salad side. My son ordered the pork. Well, I'll start with the pork: the meat appeared to be sliced from an oven baked pork roast and then warmed on a flattop. No kiss of flame at all. Likewise the chicken, but it had a SMALL bit of char to it. And as far as bringing it hotter, this was albino hot, not. The fried rice was brown from the application of soy sauce and not much else. Fairly flavorless with 6 peas and 4 little pieces of carrot. Sorry Joy, this relationship is over. I'm moving on, and looking for that Korean lady... read more
