I'm all about consistency, truly I am. On 7/3 I came here and we ordered Mongolian beef, scallion pancakes and eggplant in szechuan sauce. Let's talk about the food for a minute. Mongolian beef was ok, was served warm as if it was sitting for a few minutes. Scallion pancakes were dripping oil when I picked a few pieces up. Eggplant was my favorite dish on 7/3. On 7/3 the eggplant was served with green bell peppers and red bell peppers, when I tell you it was delicious-it was DELICIOUS. Today on 7/12 we ordered the salt and pepper fish, the XLB and the eggplant in Szechuan sauce. A few things before I get into the food. For as busy as it was, atleast one more person would have been helpful. Lots of to go orders, lots of people standing around waiting for their orders. We got sat and about 10 min after we ordered, another table of 2 got sat. We waited quite a bit when I noticed that the table of 2 that was sat after 10 min of us ordering were getting their food already. Maybe the difference of order? No because they also ordered the eggplant, but I digress. Salt and pepper fish was just as delicious as it was on 7/3. XLB was good, the soup stayed in the dumpling when it was picked up. Now let's chitter chat about the eggplant. My favorite dish from 7/3 was missing the green and red bell peppers. I asked the waitress if they didn't put the peppers in anymore and she said something to the effect of they didn't put bell peppers. Well, I come prepared and I come with my receipts. She was not prepared in me showing the photo of my beloved dish from 7/3. She stumbled over her words and said different chefs cook it differently. Hmmm, interesting. Ordered online. Got the BBQ Beef buns, beef dumplings, and scallion pancakes. A friend and I split these and agreed the food was pretty good. Certainly liked the texture, and the sauce was pretty good. We took away a star since the meat in the BBQ beef buns wasn't as good as I was expecting. Normally these are sweeter and smoother, but it was indistinguishable from the regular beef in the dumplings. I'm not sure there's a lot of competition in the area though, and it's cheaper than Dim Tai Fung for pretty good quality. I highly recommend the beef noodles - chow mein or the rice noodles! the chow mein is very good with a thinner noodle (flour) than the rice noodle which is flat. I do think the rice noodle soaks up more of the flavor but they're both really yummy! One you try this place once you'll be back - so try them both! the soup dumplings were really good also! Placed a to-go order for a few dishes for the family dinner and I was not disappointed. The woman managing the front/ to-go order was really nice and had a sweet smile. I ordered the Pork&Shrimp Dumplings, XLB, and cucumber salad. Each of these came with a lot for the price- which I loved! Our favorite was the XLB. They were cooked perfectly and super flavorful. The first XLB I tried were at din tai fung and it's been tough to find ones that are comparable but these were on point. You could tell that the dumplings were made in house and the cucumbers were fresh. Aside from the food- the service was quick and everyone was super friendly. This was a place on the way home from a hike. And who doesn't love dumplings?! Since my friend never had any, we tried the pork and chives dumplings and the pork and Napa steamed buns. For an appetizer, we got the cucumber salad. The cucumber salad was soooo good, I just couldn't stop eating it. The steamed buns were too doughy for me, but my friend loved that about them. We had a pick up order of Fish Fillet in Black Bean Sauce. This dish gets 5 stars. Light and flavorful. Not salty. The fish was tender and cooked just right. We don't have a photo because we finished it right away. The steamed BBQ Pork Buns is another winner. There's a prominent star anise and five spice flavor reminiscent of pork buns you can only get in China Town as a kid. The Pork Chive Dumplings is just meh. It was heavy, sticky and mushy. The filling didn't save it either. The pork Xlb Steam Buns have a good soup, but the wonton wrapper is also not delicate as you would have at Din Tai Fung or Dumpling Inn. What a gem hidden in this plaza for great Taiwanese food. The Xiao Long Baos really hit the spot and there's actually soup inside! The skin isn't too thick but it's not as thin as Din Tai Fung's. The beef wrap is delicious and large portion for what it is! (These wraps aren't exactly healthy wraps, since they use scallion cakes but it is filling as a meal for 1.) Pan-fried steamed pork buns were also delicious but definitely should be eaten fresh and hot! Lastly, we got their Dan Dan noodles. This was my least favorite, as there wasn't too much going on in this plate - chili oil is the main highlight and the noods weren't very chewy or flavorful. Was a little disappointing that they wouldn't let us dine in when we got there 30 mins before closing, but it's ok, we get that they want to leave right at closing hours. My friend and I decided to try Joyee's because they had indoor dining. Since we like a good Chow Mein dish, we ordered the combination Chow Mein. The Chow Mein had good flavor but I didn't care for the scrambled eggs or the beef in the dish. We also ordered the bbq pork steamed buns. Those took awhile but when they came they were not what we were expecting. We thought these buns had Char siu (Chinese bbq pork). Instead these buns were filled with a bland ground meat which didn't seem like pork to either one of us. It had more of a beefy flavor and there were mushrooms. The ground meat was also really oily. They needed to drain the meat before they put it in the dough. We even checked the menu to see if we accidentally got someone else's steamed buns but we didn't. Those were a disappointment. Our third dish was the Szechuan eggplant. This dish had more flavor than the chow mein and the "bbq pork" buns combined. Unfortunately, the eggplant itself was on the tough side. We also ordered hot tea but they didn't have tea cups so we were drinking hot tea out of water glasses. Haha Anyways, service was not great but we were not surprised about that. read more

We really liked the BBW pork steamed buns, the pork and shrimp dumplings and the pork and chive dumplings too. Their Mapo Tofu was just amazing even though its vegetarian. The Taro buns were my enjoyed by my teenager. He loved them ! I tried them as well & they were sweet but mildly sweet, super soft. The taro filling reminded me of a sweet taro bitter type filling.
