I personally love coming here. It's such a great mom and pop shop. Definitely a community vibe small business very affordable sushi always so kind. The woman at the counter is just a delight. The sushi is delicious. I love it if you're a person that is into really expensive high-end sushi, like sugar fish, or Kazunori like myself this is not that it's an affordable snack, and more of a local vibe home made vibe that specializes in rolls. I always get the dragon roll. I love the way they do the tempera and the eel is always super fresh. not to mention if you're craving a pastry breakfast sandwich a coffee, a Boba or a scoop of ice cream they have that as well they have an extensive dessert case that is a partnership with a local pastry maker and I saw slices of cake for under 3 dollars in 2026 that is a pretty great deal. Was my experience worth 5 stars? No. There was much that can be improved but you can't ask too much for a tiny mom n pop shop. New menu prices are out with slight increase to all the offerings. Beef rib has been removed from the menu. They are still serving up quality food at a very reasonable (cheap) price. Hence why I'm still going to give them the 5-star push for more foot traffic!! At the time I called the store today, the lady up front was very busy with customers so it went to VM, but to my surprise, she called me back mins after! That was a very nice surprise. Unfortunately, she had trouble understanding what I wanted to order so I was glad my call got passed to the guy instead. Order placement went thru smoothly from there. Quoted 20-30 mins. I got there at 20mins and my food was ready sitting on the counter. This irked me slightly because I did order raw fish and was concerned about the quality if it sat out too long considering the inside of the store had to be about 75+ degrees inside! It was very warm! I only live 5 mins away so I promptly put the food into the fridge when I got home. She did at least package my hot food separately from the raw food. While I was waiting to collect my order, I got to observe her trying to serve up ice cream scoops. As someone who's worked in a donut shop where we had those tub freezers and gallon ice cream, I can confirm the ice cream can get pretty frozen and very difficult to scoop. Ultimately, the scoop was small for $2.50, I don't think it's worth it IMO but hey... If you really craving that thrifty flavor, at least you can count on them to carry it! read more

I decided to try this restaurant after seeing all the glowing reviews on Yelp and Google. Unfortunately, my experience was nothing like what others described. I noticed from pictures posted outside of the restaurant that showed whole crab sticks in their california rolls (not mixed with mayo), which didn't match what I'd seen online. When I politely asked about it, the woman working there seemed annoyed and frustrated by my question. The communication barrier was one thing, but the attitude made me feel like I had done something wrong just for trying to understand what I'd be paying for. Photos from reviews actually show both types being used (crab mix and crab sticks). I guess it depends if they have the crab mix ready at hand or not depending on the day? I ordered two California rolls and a spicy tuna poke bowl. California Roll: Came with the crab mix, which I prefer, but the rice was drenched in vinegar to the point that it overpowered everything. Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl: This was honestly gross. The fish was warm from sitting on top of hot, plain steamed rice (not sushi rice). I couldn't even finish it. This place was a big disappointment. I should have known not to expect quality sushi from a place that sells breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, ice cream and sushi. I won't be coming back, and I'd suggest looking elsewhere if you actually want fresh sushi or decent service. read more

Surprisingly Good Sushi from a Hidden Little Spot I've driven by this place probably a thousand times and never thought much of it. From the outside, it looks like your typical small, no-frills, mom-and-pop shop--nothing fancy. I was a little hesitant at first, but we decided to finally give it a try, and I'm glad we did. The sushi here is actually really solid. Nothing over-the-top or groundbreaking, but definitely fresh and well-prepared. The rice stood out to me--slightly sweet, not mushy, and just the right texture to go with the fish. It all felt balanced and clean. What I really appreciate is that the flavors aren't heavy or overdone. One of my issues with Yama Sushi in Alhambra is they tend to go heavy on the sesame oil. This place keeps it simple and lets the ingredients speak for themselves. Even my son, who's just getting into sushi and is super picky, enjoyed the nigiri here. That says a lot. Overall, it's a nice, low-key spot that surprised us in the best way. I hadn't been to El Sereno in months and was in the area so I wanted to visit the old donut shop, to my surprise it was now a sushi bakery ... not sure what to think about that. I walked in and the aunty greeted me. I took a look around and found that the prices were excellent! It was 11am though and I just finished a workout so I wasn't in the mood for sushi. I wanted to support so I bought two pastries. One cake pop $2 and one eclair $2.75. The aunty told me to try the sushi next time, she was nice. I got home put the pastries in the fridge and waited until after dinner to indulge. The cake pop was not good, the frosting was way too sweet and was melting for some odd reason. Now the eclair looked amazing, I put it on a plate and it happened to roll over. WOW am I so glad that happened because underneath was MOLD ! Oh man to my disappointment I was disgusted. Makes me feel like they don't do quality control in their establishment, how can I trust the sushi ?! If you decide to go here, double check your pastries. read more

Very excited to have Japanese food in El Sereno Had noticed the new sign. FB had mentioned the donut shop was gone. Was happy to try the new spot that is in El Sereno. Everything was great, the new owners are very pleasant. As with any cooked to order food I had a little wait which I didn't mind. Next time I will call it in. No need to drive to Alhambra anymore. The rolls were very good, fresh and the rice was soft. Tempura was as good an anywhere I have had before. The spicy Edamame was totally on point. Looking forward to trying the curry. Very unassuming place for local sushi. I initially saw sushi and donuts as the sign and was confused. Sat down, ordered sushi and was super impressed. Seems like a small mom and pop family business that I will for sure be continuing to support - great service, super friendly but most importantly, sushi tasted super fresh and was delicious. They keep the rolls simple and not with any crazy ingredients and it was perfect. Have been there a few times already and it's always consistent and fresh.
