    California Roll

I decided to try this restaurant after seeing all the glowing reviews on Yelp and Google. Unfortunately, my experience was nothing like what others described. I noticed from pictures posted outside of the restaurant that showed whole crab sticks in their california rolls (not mixed with mayo), which didn't match what I'd seen online. When I politely asked about it, the woman working there seemed annoyed and frustrated by my question. The communication barrier was one thing, but the attitude made me feel like I had done something wrong just for trying to understand what I'd be paying for. Photos from reviews actually show both types being used (crab mix and crab sticks). I guess it depends if they have the crab mix ready at hand or not depending on the day? I ordered two California rolls and a spicy tuna poke bowl. California Roll: Came with the crab mix, which I prefer, but the rice was drenched in vinegar to the point that it overpowered everything. Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl: This was honestly gross. The fish was warm from sitting on top of hot, plain steamed rice (not sushi rice). I couldn't even finish it. This place was a big disappointment. I should have known not to expect quality sushi from a place that sells breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, ice cream and sushi. I won't be coming back, and I'd suggest looking elsewhere if you actually want fresh sushi or decent service.

This is a little mom and pop sushi spot, and they serve Thrifty Ice Cream too! I ordered the Rainbow Roll, and it was delicious. Support this local El Sereno restaurant! It's tasty and freshly prepared. Prices are good too.

June's is an underrated Ma & Pa sushi shop. The ambiance is fun and the service from the old couple that works there is amazing. The sushi is also made fresh which is a plus. I will be going back.

I hadn't been to El Sereno in months and was in the area so I wanted to visit the old donut shop, to my surprise it was now a sushi bakery ... not sure what to think about that. I walked in and the aunty greeted me. I took a look around and found that the prices were excellent! It was 11am though and I just finished a workout so I wasn't in the mood for sushi. I wanted to support so I bought two pastries. One cake pop $2 and one eclair $2.75. The aunty told me to try the sushi next time, she was nice. I got home put the pastries in the fridge and waited until after dinner to indulge. The cake pop was not good, the frosting was way too sweet and was melting for some odd reason. Now the eclair looked amazing, I put it on a plate and it happened to roll over. WOW am I so glad that happened because underneath was MOLD ! Oh man to my disappointment I was disgusted. Makes me feel like they don't do quality control in their establishment, how can I trust the sushi ?! If you decide to go here, double check your pastries.

Very excited to have Japanese food in El Sereno Had noticed the new sign. FB had mentioned the donut shop was gone. Was happy to try the new spot that is in El Sereno. Everything was great, the new owners are very pleasant. As with any cooked to order food I had a little wait which I didn't mind. Next time I will call it in. No need to drive to Alhambra anymore. The rolls were very good, fresh and the rice was soft. Tempura was as good an anywhere I have had before. The spicy Edamame was totally on point. Looking forward to trying the curry. GOOD LUCK !!!

Vietnamese coffee! Ice connoisseurs rejoice, they use yummy crushed ice :)

This is my favorite spot to grab a quick bite in the neighborhood! I have tried their sushi, poke, and curry. Delicious, fast, fresh, and affordable. The lady who runs it is super sweet too. :) Cute little grab and go takeout spot, with comfortable stools and little tables if you want to eat there. Delicious Vietnamese coffee too. Can't recommend highly enough. So glad they opened!!

The place is super small and no line, but the flavors were plentiful. I forget what they do, but you can get a combo of flavors in a single scoop. Then, an eternity ago, it closed and we were sad. Then Long Beach Creamery opened and we weren't that sad for that long, but still, I absolutely still thought about them every once in a while, sad that they'd left. Then, a much closer eternity ago (about a year ago - I've been super burned-out and not finishing my reviews), I was on my way from an event back to the blue line and walked by and noticed that they had, in fact, just moved. So obviously we had to get some. Verdict - yes, it absolutely was as good as I remembered. I wouldn't go back to DTLA just for ice cream, Long Beach Creamery being walking distance and wonderful, but I would absolutely stop here if I were back in DTLA and wanted ice cream. It's a bit pricey, but all craft ice cream is going to be, and it is definitely craft. And you can save a lot by getting a 3-scoop, which is very much enough to share for two people, if not slightly too much.

I bought 30g of their matcha and admittedly thought when they didn't give it to me at the counter that they forgot, but I sat down at a table to eat my ice cream and decided to just ask for it after I finished. Thank goodness I did, because the cashier came up to my table about 10 minutes later and handed me a little bag of fresh-ground matcha. She took a second to explain to me how to store it and keep it fresh, and I just really appreciated the extra bit of customer service, even if it's something they're maybe expected to do. When I have the money, I'll definitely come back and get their 100g pack! They have so many locations and only wish they had more. The closest to me is about 20mins away but it's worth the drive every time. I love this location especially. Always such friendly staff and never have to wait in a long line. Basically, if you're a newbie, you go in and ALWAYS as for the "seasonal flavors" for tasting. They give you tasters on silver spoons and you drop it down this hole when you're done. It's literally their culture to give you a taste of everything on their seasonal menu so don't skip out on this experience. It's the best way to try their ice cream. FUN FACT: they also have 1-2 flavors that are considered "last chance" flavors which means they are about to run out so get it before it's gone. Each month I go in to try another tasty flavor and it never disappoints but I am sometimes that girl who tries the new stuff but ends up getting her usual order (chocolate brownie) and am always happy. Just the smell of sugar cone alone when you walk in gets you hooked. The atmosphere is just so welcoming. Don't be intimidated by the many flavors to choose from because there are a lot. I like to get their double scoop in a waffle cone, but they also have awesome split scoop options for those more adventurous and want to try multiple flavors in one scoop. Saves you for when you're keeping your sugar levels down. There are usually always places to sit inside or outside so you can enjoy your goodies right away.
