Could not be more disorganized. Such a messy experience from check in to check out. Menu was SO confusing and messy. Food was decent but could get anywhere else. Way too busy and way too loud for their staff to handle. 2 stars only cause I feel bad their staff has to deal with these working conditions and take the heat. Only came by because we're walking distance and local so disappointing. read more

This is hands down my favorite sushi spot! The food is always fantastic and super fresh. I especially love their Lemon Roll and Asian Roll -- both are packed with flavor. The fish is always fresh, the portions are generous, and you can tell they really care about quality. It's the only place I order sushi from. Absolutely love it! Had an awesome experience here. Came out for an anniversary dinner, no reservations, on a windy rainy Wednesday evening. Ordered several items on the menu and each was tasty. The food is well prepared, the service was great, slightly crowded but moderate noise. We dived right in on the appetizers, my favorites were the rock shrimp and fried brussels sprouts. My kushiyaki was the chilean seanass with soy, amazing. There's much more to try on the expansive menu. Looking forward to my next visit read more

I was really looking forward to trying Kabosu, but unfortunately, the service was a huge letdown. We ordered soup and sushi, but they brought out the sushi first, and we had to wait quite a while for the soup. On top of that, we had to ask couple of times for ginger and soy sauce to the table. No one checked on us during the meal, and when we left our cards to pay, it took way too long to get them back. Because of the poor service, we left a 10% tip instead of 18%, which we felt was fair. But as we were leaving, one of the servers (a skinny guy with glasses) actually ran after us outside the restaurant and stopped us demanding to know why we didn't tip more. We explained that it was because of the service, but he kept pushing and even told us to change the tip. Honestly, I was shocked. A tip is based on service, not an obligation. Chasing down customers over a tip is not just unprofessional it's downright embarrassing. This was such an uncomfortable experience, and I definitely won't be coming back. read more

Everything tasted so fresh and was packed with flavor, best meal I've had in a while! Even the side salad and soup were delicious, the salad dressing was so refreshing. My daughter and son in law took me there for my birthday dinner along with their children. It was wonderful. My granddaughters are delightful to be with. The service was excellent and the food delicious. They never let me pay for anything, so I "stopped" at the checkout desk on my way to the bathroom. The look on my daughter's face was priceless when she asked for the bill and our waitress brought the change from the money I had left at the checkout desk. The change was not enough for a tip worthy of the meal so we rectified that. I thought I needed to write a review, but was already across the street, which is why you are getting only the shot kitty corner from the restaurant. read more

The qaulity of the fish is very fresh and yummy, the rolls are unique everything has kind of a lemony/citrusy taste to it but it's really good. the service is a bit slow, nothing comes all together it takes like 10-20 minutes for each roll to come. If you're going, remember that it's gonna take a while to get all ur food so i suggest going with friends that u want to catch up with or don't mind talking to cuz u guys will have to be there a while. It's very cozy and pretty small place read more

Kabosu is the sister store for yuzu sushi across the street & as I mention in yuzu sushi review. Both has the total quality food and they are as close as it can get in a Michelin star sushi places with a fraction of the price. Excellent sushi. Get the lemon roll!!!! This is the sister restaurant of the popular Yuzu across the street. I believe their menu's are the same. Both locations are very busy and you will likely have to wait at least an hour for a table. Luckily there are lots of spots nearby to hang out while you wait. read more

This place has grown a lot in popularity over the years and has stayed pretty consistent overall. The lime and spicy popper roll were pretty good, I usually get the lemon, yuzu, and/or Chilean sea bass rolls. The salmon toast used to be my favorite but I was a bit disappointed last night- it is so much smaller and much more expensive, and just not as good as I remembered it being. Although they were busy, our server was as attentive as he could be and was really funny. It's so loud inside, I actually preferred to sit outside with the heat lamp on. read more

I love this place! Hands down one of the best sushi spots in LA. Small clean, BUSY but they have outdoor seating in the beautiful neighborhood. Everything is fantastic! The salmon with cilantro sauce is BEYOND - order it! Thank me later! Blue crab hand roll kiss kiss! Finger lime sushi (this can come on several types of fish) just ask your server it's divine! Spivey tuna on crispy rice is a classic and the seared albacore with crispy onions. Their ceviche is also out standing! Highly recommend! Friendly attentive staff too! It was okay. First time here and it was delicious but I'm so spoiled with Seaweed in Glendale that my level of expectations still hasn't surpass that. After failing to get into three different restaurants around the area due to long wait times and unexpected closures, we finally settled for this place on a Saturday during early September. We were outside the doors about 5 minutes before opening and there were already two parities ahead of us waiting. (We soon found out how busy this place would be during our stay there). Once the restaurant was open for business, we chose to sit inside and took a look at the menu. The place was pricey, so I was adamant about how many rolls we should order between the two of us. We ended up ordering 4 and waited for our food to come. The staff made sure to check in on our table to either refill our waters and in between receiving our rolls. I loved how the rolls were presented and everything tasted pretty fresh. The restaurant was packed about 30 minutes into opening for a Saturday. We ended up ordering another roll and since we had ordered it later, we had to wait for a bit for them to get our order ready due to how pack it had gotten. Everything tasted great over all and excited to come back next time when I am in the area. read more

Been a customer for years. Their food is always fresh, always great, and the staff is very friendly. I usually sit at the bar with my wife and it's always a great time. Highly recommend their toro, albacore sashimi, Asian roll, and Davis Special (off menu item). You cannot go wrong with this place. When we crave sushi nearby we usually end up here, if there's no time, we order takeout! If you haven't tried this place out, I recommend you give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

I dare you to find better sushi in the valley . It is beyond deliciioso. However the service is below average. Had to request staples like ginger and wasabi multiple times. Service was beyond slow. And the dishes came out in an untimely fashion. Had to wait 5 - 10 minutes between orders as we sat around day dreaming. The reservation system pretty much sucks if you get through. But all in all worth it for the food most def. read more

Location 3: In a nice area of Toluca Lake along with a few other restaurants. Surprisingly high foot traffic for suburban LA; mostly people walking their dogs. Proper parking can be a challenge, unless you conveniently use the parking spots that are intended for other businesses :) Venue 4: Kabosu is the sister restaurant of the famous Sushi Yuzu which is only a block away. Nicely decorated interior, with additional outdoor tables on the sidewalk as well. No patio though. This outdoor seating is on the narrow sidewalk. It is a little tight and pedestrians literally brush by your table as they pass by. You can bring your dog as long as you sit outside. This place was packed past 9 PM on a Thursday night, with people (including us) waiting 30-45 minutes for a table. Service 3: Our server got two of our orders wrong. We were brought two rolls that we had not ordered and never received the two that we actually had ordered. We accepted the first wrong roll but did want the other one, and the server got a little irritated. Our server actually never admitted that she got the order wrong and repeatedly confirmed that the rolls were on their way. Another server that had taken over later on informed us when she brought us the check that our original orders were not coming since they were never put in and now the kitchen was closed. Food 4: Good assortment of hot and cold appetizers, sushi, sashimi, hand and cut rolls, Hot Pot, Kushiyaki (grilled skewers) and bowls. Everything we ordered tasted great, but portions were on the smaller side and prices were relatively high. Quality of ingredients and plating were very good. Drinks 4: Good assortment of Sake, Beer, and a few selections of wine by bottle and glass. Drink prices were reasonable. The Bottom Line 4: Nice food and pleasant environment, albeit a little too busy. Hopefully they will work on improving their service. Will definitely visit again! read more

Good fish. Had a terrific albacore sashimi with jalapeños and crispy (oily) onions. Some very creative rolls. The lemon roll was great, the spider roll was NOT GOOD. Crazy loud! Be prepared to yell at your dining companions unless you want to sit outside on the sidewalk. Next time, I will choose the traffic on Riverside over the dining room. Super busy on a Tuesday night so service was a little disappointing. Very high end sushi pricing. read more

My friend took me here for lunch, being a popular place we arrived at 11:30 when it opens, which worked out perfectly. We sat at the sushi bar. The restaurant is bright, clean and very open. I noted that they did have a few tables outside. Minny our services was very good. We were handed the daily recommendations with the attachment of the QR code to order from the main menu. We ordered from the main menu all our sushi. Keep in mind that the "Daily Recommendation menu has specialty items "Wild fish from Japan" with different prices from the main menu... so make sure you are clear about what you want. We ordered Sake to enjoy with our Yellowtail Sashimi, Smelt Egg with Quail Egg, Tuna, Uni and Sweet Shrimp. Presentation was all nice, fish tasted fresh. I loved this place! read more

They are open. They have limited outdoor seating, first come first serve, and since they have limited seating the phones are always busy while they serve to go orders.

We chose the AYCE option (around $55 per person), and the pricing for kids was very reasonable. People share tables, strike up conversations, and enjoy a meal without anyone rushing them out the door. Then there's something you almost never find downtown anymore--free parking. That's worth mentioning all by itself. Could I explain why I'm giving Philippe's five stars? I suppose I could. But when you have friendly people like Elizabeth, a fresh lamb dip made right in front of you, reasonable prices, free parking, and more than a century of Los Angeles history, what more could you ask for? The meat was juicy but I was left wanting more flavour in both the meat and the buns. I also wish the bottoms were a bit crispier. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try their breakfast menu and other items though. Because peeking at the other tables they offerings looked delicious.

where do I begin from? nightmare at Kabosu tonight. We arrived at 7:30pm tonight, got seated, and that was it. 7:50 we were still waiting for our adamame, miso soup and water. 8:30 we were waiting for our order to be taken and that was it. our waiter was everywhere serving other tables (only 3 tables) bringing their orders. by the time our miso soup came it was cold, btw we requested two orders of miso he brought one! by the time our adamame came we lost our appepite and my son was already losing patience. I kept looking at our waiter (he wears glasses and you won't miss him if you ever go there which I don't recommend) and he kept ignoring us. so, what I had to do was get out of my sit to chase him down to ask whats going on with our order. first of all, they speak zero English, they are rude, unprofessional and they could care less what you have to say. in the meantime while we are there in that one hour, five tables were fully served in 5 minutes, people were leaving, new parties coming in, and still waiting for our food. so I approached our "waiter", asking him whats taking so long and w/o even listening to me he's talking over me. I went ballistic. I walked out with my son, told my husband to request the order for take out because I couldn't believe that he would forget to give our order to the "chef" there. ON TOP OF IT ALL, we brought home our food with two orders missing. Food sucked. Will never ever go back again when we were a regular there. This is not the first time that Kabosu provides poor service. I would like to know if the owner actually sits and reads our reviews because he needs to step it up and provide some trainings to his staff. there was a party of 7 outside waiting for an hour to be seated, and they left. they will write a negative review as well. two thumbs down to Kabosu. read more

I've been passing this place for years, always curious about stopping in for a bite. This evening, I finally made it happen. The service was quick, polite, and attentive, which made for a welcoming start. While the space inside can get quite noisy, it adds a lively energy to the atmosphere rather than taking away from the experience. I deliberately ordered a progression of dishes from cold to hot. We began with the salmon carpaccio, served with shaved fennel, golden kiwi, dill, and capers. It was beautifully presented and full of fresh, balanced flavor--definitely a recommended starter. Next came the lemon roll, which featured spicy tuna inside, tuna on top, and thin slices of lemon garnished with pine nuts. The combination of bright acidity from the lemon and the rich, fatty tuna was both surprising and satisfying. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Let me just start off by saying their Salmon is probably the best I've ever had. The salmon special roll, salmon sushi, salmon sashimi, and spicy salmon roll was downright delicious. Our waitress was clearly frazzled the amount of people at the restaurant and didnt get our simple water order until about 20 minutes into the dinner. Parking is street. Don't park in the back, you will get towed. I know this from experience. On to everything else. - Blue Fin Tuna hand roll - perfect little snack to get and not share with the rest of the table. Hand rolls are my little cheating buddies when eating out in a big group. Usually everything gets shared family style, but when you order a hand roll, no one shares with you! Especially if you cough on it. Then you're golden. - Crispy rice topped with salmon and caviar - to die for. - Yuzu Roll - delicious, but dont leave it sitting in the sauce for too long, the rice will get soggy and fall apart when you pick it up. - Everything else we ordered - I honestly don't remember the names of everything else we ordered, the ones I listed simply stood out to me. We waited 1 hour for a "25" minute wait but it was worth it. This is always my go-to spot because it's always the same quality. Fresh fish that tastes good! The truffle edamame is sooo good and we keep it even if we're done just to dip our rolls in the sauce. Also strangely enough the ginger is really good and if you are obsessed with ginger you know what I'm talking about when it comes to the flavor. If this is a new spot you want to try I would definitely start off with the jalapeño salmon sashimi plate because it melts in your mouth (not exaggerated it's actually really good) and the yuzu roll and lemon roll. Their hand rolls are really good and I prefer mine seaweed wrapped. I'm not sure what everyone loves about this place, or if anyone really does, but the food here was nothing compared to what quality sushi should be. For the price that you're paying you would expect great tasting fish and exquisite customer service, but sadly this was not the case. Food took way too long, fish was disgusting, And most importantly the restaurant was empty which you would think your food would at least arrive within 25 minutes or so when there are so many waiters and no customers. With five people we almost ordered eight different roles and to my surprise none were at par. After giving this place a second try, won't happen again. I recently dined at Kabosu Sushi, and I can't believe it took me this long to discover this place! The sushi is absolutely amazing, each piece melts in your mouth, showcasing the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Every bite was a delightful experience, and I savored each one. The restaurant is a bit small, and I do wish they had a larger space, as it can feel a bit cramped. However, the food more than makes up for it. My wife and I had an amazing dining experience at Kabosu! From start to finish, everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. We tried a variety of dishes, and each one impressed us. The flavors were fresh, vibrant, and well-balanced--exactly what we were hoping for from a great Japanese restaurant.
