Always on the lookout for new sushi places near work, I decided to give this one a try. It is only about 5 minutes away from the office, so it was worth to forego my usual sushi dive to check this one out. Kind of a cold atmosphere in there, although the gentleman behind the counter was nice and very polite. They have a folder with their sushi roll selection displayed, not a huge selection and as someone else pointed out here, they are all based on the california roll. They have some pretty good looking rolls though, and quite a few nice lunch combos that are nicely priced. I ended up getting a combo that included a California handroll and the Maui roll. Basically it's tempura shrimp and california roll inside, then albacore and avocado on the outside, drizzled with eel sauce and ponzu sauce. The roll was good, and the hand roll was also very good, but nothing spectacular. The selection was slim. Despite the amount of rolls offered, they are all pretty much the same roll, except with different toppings. This will be a nice place for a QUICK sushi fix, however I'm probably more likely to drive a little further to visit my regular sushi joint instead. read more

I came to Kai Sushi in the afternoon on a Saturday and it was quiet and peaceful. The staff took there time in helping you not only order but neatly put your utensils around you which threw me off! I ordered a seared albacore roll and a philly roll and the fish was so fresh. There seasame chicken bowl was outstanding as well. The prices for food are decent as well. Close, convenient and Meh.... That is a good description. Not really a sushi bar. Not really traditional in the sense of, service. You order at a counter, you find your own seat, No Kirin or Sapporo or sake (I get it but I still missed it) and once you get your food that is it. This little hidden gem! Found it by accident, but absolutely delish. I wish dine in was possible to be able to get the full experience, but the sushi was great. If I'm in the area will definitely consider going here instead of the usual in n out across the street. read more

Though they primarily serve sushi, the food quality is better than some expensive top-notch sushi spots I've visited. Not only does Kai Sushi have AMAZING food, but they have incredible service. I placed an order for a friend on DoorDash with Kai Sushi and there was confusion on the order and two rolls were missed. This could have gone completely un noticed if not for the integrity of the people at Kai Sushi. Because the order did not come directly to me, I would have never known something was missing, nor would my friend who received the order because she did not know what I was sending to her (it was a gifted dinner, as she just had a new baby). The owner of Kai called door dash and told them that they missed part of the order. DoorDash felt their driver did their job and was not going to help resolve the issue. However, the owner of Kai wanted to make sure my friend was taken care of. She called her son in, and had him personally deliver the additional rolls to my friends house at no charge, and requested that they do not tip or anything. Your average person might rate a company down for having messed up an order, but I believe we are all human and we all make mistakes... it's how we handle ourselves when we make mistakes that really counts, and I feel that Kai went above and beyond to make this right. Don't know what the food is like but when the jerk at the counter rolls her eyes when we ask what's in the veggie roll its time to walk out. Place looks like a joke anyway, no table service and no sushi bar. You also have to walk through the kitchen to use the restroom....doesn't seem very sanitary. I guess whatever you walk in with on your shoes, up to and including dog feces would be in the kitchen. Yuck read more

This is my go to spot in Orange. I've been here about 10 times and everytime I have really enjoyed my food. The price is fair, pretty much the same as any other sushi joint. Good quality fish and good service everytime. My personal favorite would have to be the SLUR roll, mmm. Highly recommended if you like salmon. read more

The food was good, better than I expected for the location. This is a fast food style sushi place in a strip mall. You order at the counter and they bring you the food. This place is absolutely wonderful. The inside is decorated in an Asian shabby chic style and it is very interesting to look at. The sushi itself made me fall to the floor and convulse because of how delicious it was. If someone were to look through my apartment window they would most likely deem me being terrorized by a malicious spirit because I was literally flying around my house with strong and violent movement and arm flailing raving about how delicious and beautifully fried my California rolls were. I also found out I was allergic to avocado upon initial consumption due to the fact my lips swelled to the size of Texas -- but, I didn't care and I continued eating them and took a shot of Benadryl afterwards. read more

Kai is in the Vons shopping plaza. A small little place but very good. We tried the Philadelphia Roll, Chicago Roll, Yellowstone Roll, Spicy Scallop hand roll. All was good. The fish were fresh. The sauces on the Chicago and Yellowstone were sweet, savory and yummy. The Spicy Scallop used slightly cooked scallops, I wished it was completely raw. It's so much better that way. Miso soup was fine, just not as warm as it should have been. Overall, it was good. I'll be going back to try some more. read more

For the second year in a row, my family and I have come here on christmas eve. Not only is the food amazing but the staff here is so nice! You come in here and you feel like you're at home. Needed a place to stop in and grab a bite to eat after a long day of driving, and with more gridlock ahead on the 91. This turned out to be the first place I found after exiting the freeway that wasn't a typical fast food joint or greasy spoon. Wound up getting the SLUR roll ($10.95, before tax). It's a salmon roll with shrimp tempura inside, along with your usual California roll-type filling (imitation crab and mayo mix). With a bottle of water, came out to a little over $13. While it's a little pricier than fast food, it's not bad for a sushi place, especially during dinner hours. The shrimp in the roll is a different twist on other salmon rolls that I've tried at other places. Outside of that, there was nothing else that stuck out that would make it worth a long drive out to have on a regular basis. However, if I lived or worked about ten minutes away, and can take advantage of their lunch or happy hour specials (3pm-5pm), I would be a regular. Some things to note: If you come in after about 7:30pm, you'll be limited to the sushi menu, which means no teriyaki or bento specials. I've been told that the grill shuts down at about this time. Word of warning that I got from a regular customer, who was nice enough to offer some recommendations before I ordered: the house special roll can be spicy if you are particularly sensitive. read more

We came in this evening and ordered 3 rolls, a SLUR, a Sushi Burrito and a spicy tuna. The food was good, cold and fresh. I noticed that everything was really clean and bright. Their customer service is beyond phenomenal. The woman who took our order heard me coughing (I've been battling a cold for about a week and can't seem to shake it) and while we were eating she had made me a delicious warm elixir to help soothe my throat and cough.
