We came after a reception to kill some time, fill our tummies with small bites, and pregame before heading to the ceremony. I forgot what drinks we ordered but it was absolutely delicious lol But the foods we ordered were... Ceviche Clasico w/ Plantain chips 4.5/5 It was perfectly balanced. Fish was fresh and tender. Loved the different textures from crunchy corn nuts to the softness of the sweet potatoes and a tender chew from the halibut and the crispy plantains. It was fun, flavorful and had us craving for more. Karaage 4/5 Nicely seasoned but wished it was more tender and crispy. The sauce is exceptional. Shishito Peppers 4/5 Absolutely delicious. Loved the quinoa on it which gave it an interesting chewy tiny crunch texture. Tasty as well. Ambience 4/5 The decoration is nicely done. It's cool that we're on the rooftop and we should be able to get a nice scenic view but most of it was covered by the railing from where we sat. Some areas get a better view than others which I noticed. Our tables weren't as clean as I thought it would be considering the restaurant is mid to high end. There were a lot of stickiness on my side of the table. Staff 5/5 Super friendly, very detailed oriented and hospitable. Checked in regularly but not invading. Made sure to check in with the chef for any food related allergies that my partner mentioned and came back with alternatives. Very accommodating. Had great recommendations overall. Keep in mind prices are high for what they serve but you will have a good time. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area to bar hop around.
Hmmm not sure about this place. 2.5/5 stars but I'm rounding up due to location and view. They have a good size menu with plenty of options but nothing wowed me. The shrimp ceviche came with whole shrimp which I wasn't used to. The plantain chips that should be included with the fish are an additional $8. I wouldn't say it was traditional Peruvian ceviche by any means. The veggie gyoza were okay, could use a little more flavor even when dipped in the soy sauce. The Drinks were mid as well. The View/rooftop is limited depending on where you sit in the restaurant but saves this place. I don't think it would be doing welll if it wasn't for the view and location next to the stadium. Overall, Kaiyo was Just an average dinning experience with nothing exceptional or worth noting. Staff was okay, food was just okay...
I enjoyed this spot more than I thought! I went here for brunch, and the food was really great. I got a fried chicken and waffle dish basically, it was good and a solid portion size. The drinks were really good, my special request requested a whiskey, sour and the bartender definitely knew what he was doing. Lots of bathrooms as well which I think is really nice.
This place has a great ambiance and equally great food! The service is great, staff is friendly. The ceviche is amazing. I've been a couple of times and often for their non alcoholic passion fruit drink and requested tequila in it, so good!
Kaiyo is worth adding to your San Francisco list! It is a hidden gem rooftop bar/restaurant. The rooftop views are incredible, especially at sunset, and it's the perfect spot for photos and selfies! I visited during the winter, and their seasonal hot toddy was the perfect drink for the chilly weather. We also tried two different types of oysters (the creamy/milky was my favorite), sushi, and the Wagyu sliders - which were hands down the best thing we ordered. If they're still on the menu, definitely give them a try! There was plenty of seating, we were seated quickly, and the overall atmosphere was amazing. Whether you're going for drinks, food, or just the views, Kaiyo is a spot I'd definitely recommend!
The rooftop was beautiful! Loved the view of the skyline and overall great environment. I personally didn't like the mango mambo but it was still a good cocktail, the spiciness in the drink due to the jalapeños just wasn't my thing (always got try something new though right?). The poko cocktail however was lovely! I honestly think the Lima roll might have been the best sushi roll I've ever had too and I wish I had access to it closer to home. It was a very busy night for staff due to it being graduation weekend, a Friday night, and they had a private party but they still made sure we were well taken care of.
Came here with a couple friends on a Tuesday windy night before a dinner reservation later that evening. Took an elevator up to thw rooftop. There was bar, indoor and outside seating. Decided to sit outside with a view facing the city. It was really windy, our server asked if wanted blankets which we said yes to. There was also a heartedly above us where we were sitting. The drinks had interesting names. I got a coffee flavored one since I like an espresso martini. I think i prefer an espresso martini than the drink I tried. Maybe its the alcohol that was used in the cocktail that wasn't doing it for me and that I'm not used to. A friend ordered chicken karaage which was fine, a couple pieces were little salty, but had a decent crunch. Service was mid. Period.
Our waiter Alejandro was great, helpful, friendly and quick. Love the views and the rooftop setting but it was cold and windy the day we went - recommend going in the summer. The food was tasty but the portions were small in comparison to the price. But hey, that's SF for you. I could skip the beef empanadas next time. It tasted fine but nothing epic about it. I think I have a slight addiction to their plantain chips- they're thin and light and tasty with the cevice or guac - edamame dip. Yummy The drinks were pretty good too! I wouldn't mind coming back to celebrate or experience the rooftop again with friends. But I likely wouldn't come back for a monthly or weekly dinner date.
2/5 Stars My husband and I chose Kaiyo Rooftop to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. We had reservations and were seated quickly after arriving. The host at the elevator was friendly and welcoming, and we appreciated how smoothly we were seated. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was disappointing. We were seated in the far corner of the rooftop with virtually no view, which was the main reason we chose this restaurant in the first place. Our table was uneven and wobbly, and the tabletop itself was covered in a sticky, tacky film--possibly from a recently applied finish. It was uncomfortable enough that I placed a napkin over the table. My water glass also appeared cloudy, with a noticeable white residue. We ordered our first round of drinks, which were good. However, when our server returned, he asked if we planned to order food. We told him we were just going to enjoy drinks, and instead of asking if we'd like another round, he simply walked away. It left us feeling like we were no longer worth serving because we weren't ordering dinner. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave to eat somewhere else. I'm giving two stars: one for the drinks, which were enjoyable, and another for the friendly host and the second server who later checked on us and promptly brought our check. We dine out often, and unfortunately, this is one restaurant we won't be returning to.
Nice rooftop for a date night! However the food is below average tasting. My friends and I came here Thursday night and it was a bit more than halfway booked with just a few tables open. We all got 3 things to share and only 1/3 was good. 1. Kaarage Pollo -- This is one of their petite bites. It's Japanese fried chicken but oh my when I took bites of it I was disappointed. It was too salty and the sauce they pair with it didn't help. I would not get this again... 2. Lima roll -- This roll was good for how simple it is! I recommend it! 3. Kaiyo roll -- This roll was just alright for me. I feel ehh about it. It's a 6.3/10. Try at your own will. It's really pretty at night! I love the vibes of the place and how they have a screen lit up of the beach. I was worried about it being cold but they have heaters running and glass walls. Also the music they play here is bomb. They be being bad bunny and Karol G! I'd come back here to try their drinks but I didn't have the best experience with most of the food. However the workers here are so nice!
tldr: delish food! def pricey and had some bumps in our experience but i'd go back for a cute rooftop moment. ordered: lima roll, corn ribs, and yucca fries. my friend also got the chicha morada highlights: honestly all of the food was great. it was just two of us and it was the perfect amount. i really liek the roll (the initial taste was peruvian which was such a fun twist). also the ribs we so juicy and flavorful. ambience: the lighting and vibes are gorgeous. only thing that was annoying was that where we were sitting had two loose tiles so anytime people walked by us our whole table would shake. it also did get chilly so don't forget a jacket! other notes: we got a reservation for monday at 6 (pretty easy and only booked about 3 days in advance). the entrance is kind of hidden. It's up a little ramp on the side and the security will send you up the elevator (don't forget your ID).
The views are beautiful, truly the highlight of the experience. The very best! Customer service was responsive and solid as well. The food and cocktails, however, didn't quite match the setting. My hot toddy and the Kaiyo roll both looked great but tasted fairly bland. I sampled a bit of every dish, and my girlfriends and I all agreed the food was on the bland side. It's a cute spot for a group hangout or a romantic date, especially for the atmosphere. Very unique interior and space. I'd must go in with adjusted expectations when it comes to the food and drinks.
Was really excited to try this place because it's been on my list for a while, but was disappointed. Service was slow, took some time to have our order taken and even longer for the food to come out. After ordering, the 2 rolls came out shortly, however the 2 orders of nigiri and 2 handrolls did not come out for another 20+ mins. I understand that dishes don't always come out at the same time, but the gap felt unusually long given how small our order was. A server let us know that it's due to them inputting the dishes periodically rather than all at once. We would have preferred for them be placed all at once so that the timing felt more cohesive. The servers weren't very attentive and it was difficult to get their attention. The food itself was good, presentation was nice, but the slow service unfortunately took away from the experience. We went upstairs to check out the rooftop, and it was nice. Drinks were good and the view was pretty with good photo ops.

This is one of those places where you automatically want to order everything, and that's probably the right move. I had a lovely dinner here with some co-workers, and although the wind almost blew us away, it was such a wonderful and memorable experience. They had blankets for folks because it was chilly, and I got a good laugh out of the video of the fire they had rolling (but why did it kind of help?!) Service was spectacular. I ordered the Mizuki to drink, because how could I say no to tequila, black pepper, mango, tomato, and cilantro? It was the most interesting cocktail, both refreshing and savory at the same time. We basically ordered as many things as possible: the mac and cheese, beef empanadas, gyoza, a few sushi rolls, and wings. Each thing was better than the last. We were so happy we forgot about being freezing and wind-blown. I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Thanks for a perfect evening, Kaiyo! read more

Mostly good for the novelty of a rooftop restaurant, but the food was disappointing. Dishes (rated by best): 1) Papas Frites: good crunch 2) Spicy Tuna Taco 3) Karage Chicken: sauce is good but the chicken is just ok 4) Miso Black Cod: texture is good but it's mild in flavor and way too salty. Logistics: -hard to find parking, rec public transportation -can make reservations -accepts card read more
This place was so accommodating for the super bowl people stayed for hours and they even provided umbrellas and blankets when it started to drizzle. Beautiful seating area just a little on the small side and cramped but hey it's sf and we're were able to snag a no show table. you don't see the view of the city skyline unless your on the side with a private party or heading to the bathroom. They had a special menu offering for the super bowl which we selected the platter from it's was really good the corn ribs surprised me and they had themed cocktails for the bowl as well! Nice large tv for viewing and heaters up above too. Would definitely be back! read more

Kaiyo can take all my stars!!! the vibes, the view, the staff, the music, and the food--all incredible. we usually sit at the bar and the service is amazing and pretty quick. food tastes SO FRESH!! if you're a fan of seafood, you can't go wrong here. even if seafood isn't your thing, they have plenty of meat options too! the rooftop does not have a lot of vegetarian options (a harvest salad & 3 veggie sushi rolls), but Kaiyo's ground floor restaurant has a lot to choose from. everything on the sushi menu is available down there too. it isn't cheap, but you'll understand why when you take your first bite/sip. don't underestimate SF wind--it will find its way to the rooftop! bring layers, even when it's sunny. it's best to make a reservation beforehand (on Resy) but the bar is open seating and it has hooks for bags/jackets. check the Giants game schedule to avoid a large fan crowd as it's a go-to spot pre/post ballgame as it's down the street from the ballpark. read more

Cold Tuesday night at Kaiyo -- slow restaurant, slower service. Food: 4/5 Service: 0/5 We had reservations but chose to sit at the bar. We sat for about five minutes before the bartender (I believe her name was Zee) finally acknowledged us with, "What do you guys want to drink?" -- no greeting, nothing. Not a great start. She began making our drinks, then bartender Axel came in and she handed them off to him. We thought, great, new shift, maybe the service will improve. Unfortunately, it didn't. Zee took our food order, and then both bartenders essentially disappeared from our existence. No check-ins, no offer for another drink. After waiting a while, I finally worked up the courage to ask for a second drink because every guest around us seemed to be bothering them anytime they asked for anything. When our roll arrived, we asked for sriracha. The manager said they don't have it -- only the sauces that come with the roll (rocoto aioli). My husband asked if we could just have rocoto on its own. The answer was... no. Interesting, considering it's apparently available to make the aioli. Zee seemed to feel bad and offered Tapatío instead. We declined. At that point we decided this just wasn't the place to spend the evening before our concert. We asked Axel for the check (which also came with attitude), paid, and left. On the way out I told the manager we were disappointed. He apologized and said Zee had dealt with a difficult party earlier. Fair enough -- but that doesn't explain Axel's attitude the entire time. Despite everything, we still tipped 20% because we weren't going to be blamed for poor tips. For what it's worth, the Kaiyo roll and the wings were good -- which is why the food still gets a 4/5. But the service completely overshadowed the experience. Also worth noting: it was a slow night and they still couldn't make a piña colada, despite having rum and using pineapple and coconut in other drinks. We've enjoyed Kaiyo in the past, but the manager needs to be more present and check on guests. Service like this on a quiet Tuesday night shouldn't happen. read more
I had visited Kaiyo Cow Hollow a few years ago, so I knew the rooftop was bound to be good! We had made a reservation in advance and arrived at 4PM (right when they opened for the night). The rooftop seating area had great views and a pleasant ambiance. For drinks, I ordered the Chicha Morada mocktail, and my coworkers both got Pisco Sours. Both were excellent! Apples and cinnamon are usually an autumnal flavor, but my drink managed to make them summery and refreshing. We also got a bunch of food items to share - the Yucca Fries, Ceviche Roll, Red Dragon Roll, and Ceviche Trio. The texture of the Yucca Fries was awesome, and I loved the huancaina dipping sauce. I also loved both sushi rolls, and the blend of Peruvian/Japanese flavors. For the Ceviche Trio, we got to choose the three varieties and we ordered the Ceviche Clasico, Ceviche De Camarones, and Tuna Ceviche. It was hard to even pick a favorite, but getting a sampler was definitely the way to go. The plantain chips were so tasty, and I ended up dipping them in the leche de tigre. Service was friendly and attentive. Would happily return for more! read more

We loved this rooftop! The drinks were great, the ambience was lovely, and the food was absolutely delicious. We came on a Wednesday night, just 30 minutes before closing, and we still got to enjoy a relaxed dinner and the beautiful vibe of the place. We ordered a trio of ceviches, I don't remember exactly which ones we picked, but all three were fresh, citrusy, and perfectly balanced. For drinks, we had the Polo and the Kimidori, both were really good and refreshing. Now, the beef empanadas, wow! Definitely a must. Super tasty, and the sauce on the side was the perfect match. And the Lima Roll... I have to say, it's one of the best rolls I've ever had. Highly recommend, you've got to try it! Can't wait to come back with friends to enjoy more food, cocktails, and the amazing skyline views that Kaiyo has to offer. read more
I always love me a nice rooftop bar. Kaiyo Rooftop is at a great location as well, right by Oracle Park. Every drink that I've tried here has been dangerously good: Watermelon Fruitillada, Cobra, and Poko. Throw in the SF views and what more could you want? It does get a bit windy, but it is on a rooftop in San Francisco. Make sure you make a reservation though, as it is super popular. read more

The vibes, view, and food are amazing here. The music was also really good. I enjoyed was the setup of the place the most, formal sitting on one side with a lounge soft seating on the other side. The bar in the middle which was a perfect sector for the areas. There was a hefty wait for seating and the food took a while so plan accordingly. If you go with time, and have some drinks you really don't notice. Def a must go if you're in the city! read more

I came here to catch up with a friend and it was a great choice. Despite the chilly weather, the rooftop is equipped with plenty of heaters to make the open environment comfortable. We enjoyed our drinks and lite bites while talking for a few hours. From the host at the entrance on the ground floor, the hostess at the tope of the elevator, our waitress, and who I believe to be the manager checking on us periodically, the service was excellent. Not to mention the sunset views and skyline in the twilight were a great backdrop throughout the restaurant. read more

Came in on a super windy day. But the staff was kind enough to offer us little blankets to help keep us a little warm, which I thought was very thoughtful. We were seated on the outskirts of the restaurant closer to the windows so the breeze was definitely felt. I kind of wish we opted for a more inner table but space was pretty limited. Ceviche sampler was a little steep for the amount of food you get. You pick 3 diff types of ceviches but it's literally 4 bites of each dish and it's done. It comes with a few plantain chips to eat it with which I thought was a great accompaniment. We chose 2 diff rolls, one of which was the lomo saltado, which I thought was an interesting take on the dish. If you aren't keen on raw fish then this would be the roll for you. The edamame guac was also an interesting appetizer, also served with plantain chips. Overall, the setting was beautiful with views of the city. I honestly can't fully remember how I felt about the rest of the items we ordered but iffy give this place a shot if you're looking for a rooftop dining experience read more

I will say that I absolutely love rooftop bars as it allows you to get a view of a city, landmark, ocean, or any other well-known place that can capture much of a city from a true visual perspective. Which takes me to San Francisco where I had the opportunity in checking out "Kaiyo Rooftop". Located at 3rd & Townsend St's in the South Beach neighborhood of the city and atop the 12th floor of the Hyatt Place, this very popular place has been around since early-2022. And in that short amount of time (as of mid-2025), it has generated over 1,000 Yelp reviews, many of which are in the 3 to 4 star range. I came here with my lady during the late afternoon of Saturday 4/12/2025 at around 5:15pm. Parking can be challenging and virtually impossible of when San Francisco Giants games are going due to the close proximity to Oracle Park (which is less than a 5-minute walk). Luckily we arrived when there was no game and scored a metered parking spot across the street. Once inside, you will then walk down a hall on the 1st floor (a young hotel employee escorted us to the elevator) and you will then proceed to the top floor which is floor #12. Once at the rooftop, you will then notice just how beautifully-designed this place is starting with the painted mural of the business. And of course all the work they put into everything. Since the theme is Peruvian-inspired, the decor and layout showcases a lot of colors with bright, festive displays. Here you will witness an all outdoor setup but the bar is shielded from a wooden overhang. The view of San Francisco's skyscrapers are prevalent as the Salesforce Tower, Embarcadero buildings, and even the SF/Oakland Bay Bridge are all within distance from the rooftop. If you decide on dining and sitting the duration of your stay, reservations are highly recommended as this place can fill up quickly. Their rooftop menu offers a scaled-down version of their restaurant menu (which can be found on the 1st floor). This includes a variety of ceviche bites, slides, mac & cheese, a nice assortment of sushi rolls, and much more. Their drink menu is also quite impressive as they offer a ton of top shelf cocktails, wines, beers, and spirits. I tried their "Kimidori" drink which offered a mix of barsol pisco, aji amarillo, mezcal, pineapple, lime, and agave while my lady went with a "Mint Mojito". I will say that although this place is on the more pricey side (both drinks were about $41), the view, ambiance, and above average service makes up for it. The female server was very attentive and made sure we were being taken care of. If the space allows it, I would highly recommend taking a ton of pictures of the outside if the weather permits it. Hours are quite generous as they are open Mon 4-10pm, Tue-Thu 4-11pm. Fri 4pm-1am, Sat 2pm-1am, and Sun 2-10pm. With that said and done, I am giving "Kaiyo Rooftop" an above average four star rating. read more

Very cute sushi restaurant in China Basin area! But very pricey to be full and I was a bit thrown off by the chicken sushi. I highly recommend their Kaiyo rolls. It was so good we ordered them twice. Very fresh and easy to share this dish. The nigiri plates were very beautiful to look at but definitely a lot less filling. Definitely will check out rooftop next time! Presentation was definitely a highlight. read more

3.5 rounded up. Lupin the 3rd- refreshing sour non-alcoholic drink. It was good but could pass on it. Miso butter corn ribs- this was a couple of the staff's favorites. I wouldn't mind getting it again. Japanese crispy shrimp- this was ok. Nothing special about it. The sauce was good but not amazing and it came with pickled onions. Would skip this. Lomo saltado roll- good but I think I prefer it in the traditional form. The flavor was there but I feel like you gotta eat this while it's still warm and in the sushi form, it got cold quick. Would probably pass on this next time but it was good to try. Nikomi beef empanadas- This was a freebie since the food took an hour to come out. I appreciated the gesture. They were tasty and not too heavy on the dough. I felt it was better without the sauce. The sauce was the same as the sauce that came with the shrimp. I wouldn't mind getting it again. This and the corn were probably the highlights of the meal. Overall nothing was too standout. I think the vibe of the place is pretty cool. We sat at the bar since the table wouldn't have been ready for another hour on a Thursday night. I wouldn't mind coming back to try other dishes and the ambiance. read more

Food: We tried the Karaage Pollo, a Salmon cebiche, Lomo Saltado Roll, and Red Dragon Roll. Everything was super yummy and flavorful. The Cebiche had a good balance of acid without being too sour and tart. The Lomo Saltado Roll was like eating bulgogi or a meat/rice bowl where every bite is perfect. There isn't the greatest views from the rooftop, but it is nice to be able to eat outside, away from cars and the dirt/trash of the street. read more
Hungout with some friends after a Giants game this past weekend. Had some appetizers and drinks. Food was not bad. Dragon roll and empanadas were good. But the Yucca fries were a little dry. Loved the orange colored dipping sauce. Weather was perfect for being out on the roof top. Not too hot sun was out and sky was clear. Great view of the city skyline. Wait staff was attentive. The drinks could be a little stronger but they were very tasty. read more
Went to celebrate my girlies 25th birthday and the view was worth the hype! Lucky for us it was gorgeous night and you could see all the way through. We got a couple drinks, chips and guacamole and some tacos. The food was amazing, small portions but every single bite was delectable. Good quality ingredients with excellent recipes. Worth it for the price if you acknowledge you're paying for the view. There was also a dj that night which was nice to see some entertainment and people dancing. read more

We were walked to the elevator and escorted to the bar. This is place is easier to enjoy the couches if a reservation was made. I made a last minute reservation for a party of 5 for 7:30 pm just in case and the staff were so kind and accommodating to us since we got a booth seating with lower tables. The view was very nice though, being able to see the skyline and still stay warm in the area we were in. We placed some orders for drinks and bites which all came out pretty quickly one after another. They also let us know if things were running behind and if we wanted to adjust items. Miso Butter Corn Ribs - The miso butter made this dish so good. The flavor and richness paired with the crunchy corn ribs and the slight spice from the togarashi was perfect for a light snack. Karaage Pollo - The pieces weren't too big but it was a good portion size and they were lightly crispy that went well with the rocoto aioli. The aioli was creamy with a mild spice and nice pepper flavor. Aji de Gallina Mac & Cheese - I would come back over and over again for this mac and cheese alone. The cavatappi pasta with the chicken, mozzarella, queso fresco and aji amarillo creamy sauce was so indulgent. It was hot in the griddle they served it in which made the cheese perfectly melted and the dish was balanced with savory, sweet, richness and yet not too heavy where you want to eat the whole thing plus more. A great rooftop bar with nice views, fun drinks, tasty bites and very friendly staff. Highly recommend going for a happy hour or during holiday season and making a reservation in case of their busy times. read more
Came as a party of 2 on a Wednesday at 9:00 PM for a reservation. It was confusing to find and we were thankfully escorted to the 12th level. Parking: Can be challenging. We ended up parking at a spot down the street, so be prepared to walk a bit. Ambience: The vibe was chill. The overall lighting was too dim for photos, but we were seated near a heat lamp, which was much appreciated. The monitor screen in the area was way too bright. Service: The service was quick, friendly, and attentive, making the experience smooth despite other issues. Food & Drinks: Tuna Tataki Tiradito - 3/10: Overly salty and overpriced. Space Adventure Cobra - 8/10: A beautifully presented cocktail that wasn't too strong but had a pleasant balance of flavors. Poko - 8/10: A stronger drink with a distinct tequila taste that was nicely balanced by the sweetness of guava. Kaiyo Rooftop was alright. The views were amazing and I thought the food was great! It is quite expensive, but thought the food was still good. As for the service, my friend and I felt like it was very hard to get the attention of the waitresses. Definitely make a reservation. If you don't, be prepared to wait and fight the crowd.
