I was kind of disappointed because Katsu Bar has been on my list forever. I always pass by it when I am in Torrance, so was super excited to finally have the time to try. I got there around closing time, but it still said "Open" in the front and they told me that they were closing so they could not serve me. First time here ‍I was having huge cravings for Korean food especially some tteokbokki so I went to the closest spot near me. I tried the tteokbokki and the pork curry. The pork curry came in a very cute packaging I'm all for presentation and it tasted pretty good. It needs more salad dressing and the portion size of the mac salad can use some love. It's no secret that I love katsu and curry and thus I was so excited to see Katsu Bar open up in Torrance! This place specializes in Japanese Katsu and they have a variety of different curry bowls along with different salads and sandwiches. I recently got to try their Kale Salad with Strawberries along with there Chicken Katsu and Ten Cauliflower Curry Bowl. The Kale salad is a great fresh salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing, strawberries, red onion, feta cheese, and sliced almonds. The Kale itself was fresh and crisp and the strawberries were also quite fresh! I topped this with their Chicken Katsu and it made for a great addition. The Ten Cauliflower Curry Bowl was also a great curry dish. This curry bowl came with ten cauliflower fries. The cauliflower fries were good but do wish they were a tad bit more crisp. Their iconic-looking Dill Egg Salad could use a sprinkle of salt, but those gooey soft-boiled eggs are epic. They make many burger-like sandwiches as well. The cashier hesitantly decided to honor the special pricing with a contorted facial expression. We decided to dine in, but I didn't enjoy any of the beverage selections they offered, so I went next door to purchase soft drinks. I came back and the cashier asked us to refrain from opening our drinks because he sells drinks - ok, but nothing we liked. He delivered our plates and the meal was served with partial ingredients and when we asked for a glass of water we were served warm water on a very hot day with no ice and a look of disgust on the side. I stopped by getting a boba tea in the same complex and saw this Katsu Bar. It was around lunch time so I decided to order for taking out. I ordered Caprese Katsu Sando(Sando=sandwich as Japanese) with pork. They also have Chicken option too. They had burgers, curry, and salads and side dishes. I heard the staff was talking to the customers and he said Rosemary Katsu Sando is the most popular. I wish I knew it before I order but I'm sure I will come back again. My caprese Katsu Sando was very yum. I wish they used a bit more bigger mozzarella and thicker slice of tomatoes but I enjoyed them so much. The Japanese Sando is getting popular I think. Since we took it to go, the condensation from the warm katsu made the bread soggy when we got home so I recommend to eat it right away. It had a perfect light coating of crispy fried breading, though the chicken sandwiches (we got sweet and Nashville hot) could have used a tiny bit more slaw/ bigger bun. "Nashville hot" was just a tiny bit of spice. The udon with katsu was hot and fresh, and the chicken bites in soy garlic were sweet and delicious. The rosemary sando was a huge portion, with a few waffle fries. Get extra creamy sauce for the fries, and try a sparkling fruit soda (fun and refreshing). Also tried some of their yubu pockets! They were bigger than I expected and a good amount for the price. The rice is sweet, and the egg salad and crab were amazing. For dessert, the strawberry sando was light and sweet- they're refrigerated so you can get as many to go as you like! I really wanted to like this place but it fell pretty flat. After reading all the 5-star reviews and going here, I was actually sad. No so much that the shop didn't live up to the hype, but because it's obvious that everyone who left a 5-star review after eating here has never had a real カツサンド. Ok. Order came out and I popped a couple waffle fries on the drive home. They were kinda chewy and didn't have a very crispy exterior. So either I got some stale fries or they just weren't great in the first place. Got home and started on the Caprese (Pork) Katsu Sando. The first impression was that it was Japanese convenience store quality. Bread was a little moist and compressed just picking up. The toppings (sauce, basil, mozz, tomato) were all good not great, but the katsu was all wrong. No crispy panko breading, it was like a crumb breading from Burger King or Jack in the Box. Meat was very firm with a line of gristle in the middle. Meat itself had no flavor (not seasoned/marinated well). Meat was on the dry side. I've had good pork katsu that "weeps" juices every bite, and this was not that. So, I'd expect this quality from a premade sando at MiniStop or Famima, for maybe ¥600-¥1,200. For $16 and 10-15 min wait, there should have been something crispy on the outside. If I'm on that stretch of Crenshaw and getting hungry for a sandwich, I'd rather go back to Mendocino Farms or In n Out. read more

My bowl of noodles was very tasty and flavorful, I couldn't tell if they put msg, so this was a good thing for me. All of the ladies enjoyed their curry rice and katsu. Even though they couldn't finish their plates, they had to take home the rest. The portion size was rather big, they thought. The two other guys I was with, who had the sandos, enjoyed their meals as well. Each of the sandos was served with waffle cut fries. Oh yeah, we ordered an order of tempura cauliflower, too. They were great. The restaurant was a bit slow for a Saturday night, but I have a feeling that the bulk of their business is from food (app) deliveries.
