I've been here twice and if you like Persian food, this is pretty spot on. The baba ganoush is delicious,as is the hummus. Both times were for the lunch buffet. The first visit, everything was great. The second time, the chicken kabobs were a little dry, but still good. I used some of what I believe was mint chutney to dip them in and it helped quite a bit; really flavorful stuff too. I make sabzi and gheymeh at home that is usually better than the stuff you find on buffets so i wasn't expecting much there. The salad olivieh was great. The bread was fresh and tasty and the kabobs were really good and not dry on my first visit. I will have to come back and try some of the regular menu items like joojeh and barg kabob. The reviews of the pistachio ice cream are good too so I can't wait to try that as well. I wish they made doog in house as I don't care for the bottled stuff but I definitely recommend this place! 4.5 stars if I could rate it by half stars. read more

Easy to miss if you aren't looking for it, this place deserves much more attention. It's located next to yet another Japanese restaurant, but don't be tempted to the wrong door. While there were a few weak items, by and large, most of the dishes were Middle Eastern perfection. The dill and saffron rice are both delicious, as are several garnishes like the cucumber and tomato salad which only heighten the flavors. Healthy fare like the lentil stew and garbanzo blend pair nicely with the hummus and yogurt sauces. For the more carnivorous, beef and chicken are present in several pleasing combinations. A little more care could be given to the woeful selection of desserts, which include an after-lunch doughnut for some reason. The waitress was very attentive to every party in the establishment and made certain everything was to our liking. Definitely a place to visit again. read more

The food is very good. I usually travel to KC area twice a year, and Caspian Bistro has been my regular stop for Persian food. But this time (March 2014) I found this restaurant and stopped there for a Sunday lunch before heading home to Illinois. To my surprise the lunch buffet that they have just started was open. The food variety was very good, the Kabobs, Chicken and stews were freshly made and tasty, and the price was very reasonable. The fresh bread that they serve is also a good addition to their food. Will certainly stop there next time in town. It should be noted a point that is not quite well known to some reviewers is that the food items they are admiring, like Falafel, Hummus, or Babaghanooch are not Persian but have mostly Jewish and Arab roots. The restaurant is small and very middle eastern feeling from the decorations on the walls. The staff was friendly. The owner was also there and walked around to talk to every table a few times during our meal. The presence and hands on owner was very comforting in this world we live in today. The food is a mixture of Persian and middle eastern. The Cilantro/Pepper sauce/dip was very very good...don't shy away from the green stuff, pile it on your plate and use it with the meat and rice. I grew up eating persian food and this is better than some of the more expensive restaurants that I have been to in southern california. This is a place that I will come back to again. My family and I have a love for Middle Eastern food and growing up in Michigan (where they have the 2nd biggest population of Arabic people outside of the Middle East) we ate at many Arabic owned establishments on a regular basis. My son and I went last night to check out a Persian owned restaurant, when I asked if they took credit cards as a payment, the owner shouted out throughout the entire restaurant: "We do not take American Express because they are run by Jews in NYC and I don't like Jews." Of course I let him know that I am Jewish...He apologized to me but the damage is done and I will never return to that restaurant. I was disappointed that my son had to be subjected to such stupidity The food wasn't good either. The baba ganoush was GRAY and the chicken was tasteless. I would have rather eaten at IHOP for the same money and not had to be ridiculed by such an anti semitic JERK! He complained to me that Jewish people don't come to eat at his restaurant, well I can definitely see why! If he doesn't like Jewish people the chances are that list is much longer and spans further than just Jews! I was so offended by this experience that I mentioned on Facebook. This was my next door neighbors response: "My wife and I walked in, were offended by pushiness of owner and walked right back out. Never have eaten there and never will. That's probably why he coupons so much...its only way he can get people in. Have u tried Caspian bistro at 90th and Metcalf? Its good." Love this restaurant...even better than Holy Land Cafe down the street. Very authentic Persian food and wonderful flavor. I have never been disappointed and I'm pretty picky. They have either buffet or standard menu ordering. Buffet is about $13 pp for dinner and entrees are about the same price. My favorites are the koobideh and appetizer platter. No, it's not the American kabobs you make at home nor those sold at grocery stores.This is an Iranian restaurant. You can't tell from the name, so it could be a surprise as soon as you open the door. To be honest, it doesn't impress you at all when you walk in. You immediately notice the decor is extremely dated, from the tables, chairs, a wood-buffet station with wooden panel from decades ago, and carpet that yells "change me! I'm filthy!". On the other hand, there're tons of pictures on the wall, but somehow I actually feel they bring some characteristics to the restaurant. During my visit, there're only two gentlemen (owners, I assume) that run the whole operation. There may be someone else in the kitchen, but the place is awfully quiet. There was a moment that I heard a "ding" sound from the kitchen, a tone that reminds me microwave oven... The attractions come from the dinner entrees, which are grilled meat and vegetable. I wouldn't be surprised that the items were actually re-heated because of the "ding" sound I mentioned above. However I was pleasantly surprised by the beef and chicken kabob. The chicken breasts pieces are very juicy, most, tender and flavorful. The same attributes apply to the (ground) beef patty as well. There's not much presentation to the dish, with rice, "house salad" and grilled tomato filling up the rest of the plate. I really wanted to try the fillet mignon or the hen, but the're not available (or not offered anymore). If I were to visit again, I would definitely give the lamb dishes a try. To sum it up, chicken and beef kabob is a safe choice and the meat seems to be marinated cooked very well, but the decor deserves some update and please bring back the missing menu items! I can't rate its authenticity but somehow I feel there's something much better out there. read more

my husband and i went there on sunday around 7:09 . as we entered no one really greeted or ask us to be seated. so we went to the person who was standing at the counter. he didnt said hi or hello since he was tryin to multitask. he said oh you are, we are closing in 30 mint. so my husband said yea thats fine. we tried the beef and chicken kabob with safron rice. that was to die for. food was worth spending 1 hour driving plus the hustle to finish eating before closing. only thing i didnt like is that the seating area is very dark and narrow. u feel like u going to bump in to other peoples as u walk. if you are someone who only look for great taste and not looks of place this joint is perfect for you. make sure be early or you will miss it read more

I have eaten there several times for the lunch buffet. The food is awesome and decor is really interesting. The staff are very friendly and attentive. One time on a weekend the owner even played some Persian music on the flute and told one of the funniest jokes I have ever heard. The owner is always there and makes a point to stop at each table to ask how thing are. The food and the atmosphere are a real treasure. I am very glad to have found this place. The food was excellent. I went for the buffet today and tried just about everything they had. The chicken and beef kabobs were very good. The chicken curry and lamb curry were very tasty, although not as spicy as I would have hoped. I understand why they make them mild so they are more appealing to everyone. Fresh pitas were brought to my table, and although I'm not a big fan of bread, they were very good. They had 4 kinds of rice and the two I tried were perfect. Their hummus was good, and they had a spicy green sauce which was incredible. I tried it on almost everything. It had a very unique taste and if you asked me to guess what was in it, I would have truly no idea. They also had a red spice at the table, sumac, and it made a very good addition to the rice and meat. They also had a buffet tray of grilled onions and tomatoes, of which I ate a bunch. I had to force myself to stop eating towards the end, for my own sake, and for theirs. I really enjoyed the atmosphere as well. There was middle eastern music playing softly in the background and interesting pictures covering all of the walls. The gentleman who served me was very kind and explained what that red spice was that I was so fond of. When I came in around noon, there were only two other patrons, and I was quite surprised, considering how good the food was. Towards the end of my meal, business picked up quite a bit and around 15 more people had come in. I would definitely recommend giving this place a shot. This place is great. It is my go to for kabob in all of the KC area. The buffet is the main reason why. The others being of course, delicious Persian food done right, great service, cozy atmosphere, and the owner takes pride in the food and cares about his patrons. It doesn't matter what race or religion you are here, you will be treated no differently. If you aren't very familiar with Persian food, the buffet is the way to go. I love this place. The owner and employees are very nice, the food is amazing, the portions are quite large and the restaurant itself is small, quiet and peaceful. I have not tried the buffet yet although every time I go in there that seems to be what most people are eating. I stick with the Cornished Hen Kabob and the Lamb and Chicken Kabob, both of which are amazing. I tend to support small, locally owned businesses that don't seem to advertise. This is the place for amazing Persian food! Just moved to KC and lucky for us this fantastic place is across the street! We grabbed takeout on a Friday night. The chicken and beef kabobs were moist, flavorful and grilled to perfection! They were served with delicious basmati rice, grilled tomato, and a side of raita (yogurt) and naan. The owner Hamir was gracious and kind and it's clear he takes a lot of pride in his restaurant and his food and that he loves what he does. We're so glad that they're in our new neighborhood!
