I lunched here a few days ago as it is near the Nixon library. It's located in a standalone building with plenty of parking available. Inside there are two halves to the building. One side looked like a casual diner suitable for breakfast or lunch and the other side looked like a night club with a bar for nice dinners and socializing. It was kind of snazzy looking and where I sat. I ordered the Keno's Famous Fried Chicken entree for $17. I chose a cup of soup for the side dish and the meal came with mashed potatoes and green beans too. For 1/2 fried chicken the price was very reasonable. First to arrive was a cup of the soup of the day which was chicken gumbo. A good tasting broth and big chunks of chicken made this gumbo enjoyable. I liked it. About 15 minutes later the entree arrived. 4 pieces of fried chicken was more than I really wanted but I still wanted to taste this chicken and it tasted pretty good. The battered chicken was tasty, juicy and flavorful. For being from California this chicken was close to real southern fried chicken in both looks and taste. The mashed potatoes and green beans were good too. Factoring in the price made this a 4 score meal for me. Table service was good too. The last time I reviewed this place was during the outdoors only Covid era. Since then, its been wonderful to enjoy the bar area for a wonderful dinner with live entertainment. Gary the performer is fabulous. We had a great time at dinner last week. We were lucky to get seated at our favorite booth since it was BUSY! The service was wonderful, and we enjoyed our time. My husband and I shared appetizers and an entree salad. We had the crab cakes, spinach dip, chicken quesadilla, and Chinese chicken salad. Everything was fabulous, but our faves were the quesadilla and the spinach dip. We also shared a scoop of sherbet for dessert and enjoyed wine and cocktails during the music. The bar has a nostalgic classic steakhouse vibe. I hope they never change it. It has that vintage feel that makes for a great date night. Can't wait to go back again. read more

A few things were not right with our order/service and my bottled beer was served to me in terrible condition and beat up plus the date code was rubbed off. Kenos, we need to talk. The blackened salmon was like that one friend who looks amazing but has zero personality. Cooked perfectly, flaky and not dry sure -- but flavor? Nowhere to be found. I had to drown it in tartar sauce just so my taste buds didn't feel ghosted. Same deal with the veggies. They tasted like they just were cooked just to be on the side. Sad times. BUT -- redemption came in the form of the BBQ chicken salad and the steak salad. Absolute rockstars. Even the waitress said it's their favorite. Honestly, it's one of the best dishes in the whole restaurant. So yeah... Kenos is kind of like a group project. This is for the steakhouse inside Kenos -- conveniently located just past the California lottery ticket machine (which should already tell you this place has been around for years). You step into a dimly lit dining room filled with classic booths, all arranged like you're about to catch a live performance from Frank Sinatra or Sammy Davis Jr. -- fitting, since their portraits hang proudly on the walls. Started with the crab cakes which have very little crab in them and are mostly filler; which explains their $11 price and are served with fish stick tartar sauce. For an entree I ordered the prime rib because my waitress lit up as she spoke lovingly about its goodness. And ... I was impressed. It was perfectly cooked. I also enjoyed the veggie - brocolini that was on the side. I opted for the fries; next time I would choose a baked potatoes. We've been going to Keno Restaurant regularly for happy hour, usually twice a week, because we really enjoy their happy hour menu -- especially the wings and margaritas. Unfortunately, one employee has completely changed our experience: the bartender/server Arturo. The first time Arturo served us, he already had an attitude from the start. Whenever we asked questions, he either ignored us or walked away without acknowledging us. We mentioned that a friend would be joining us later, and immediately he reminded us about the "2-hour limit" for seating at the bar. When I asked what time we had arrived, he simply said he didn't know. We even tried joking with him to lighten the mood, saying things like, "Are you kicking us out already, Arturo?" Instead of responding professionally, he told us that many people stay too long ordering only happy hour food and "cheap" drinks. Honestly, it made us feel stereotyped and judged, especially since we noticed he was smiling and friendly with other customers while constantly monitoring us. We're Asian, and the treatment felt noticeably different. The entire time, even while we continued ordering more food and drinks within the 2-hour period, he kept reminding us about the time limit. We still had nearly an hour left every time he brought it up. It felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. We returned again yesterday hoping maybe the first experience was just a bad day. We were extra friendly and tried to joke around with him again, but unfortunately nothing changed. Same rude attitude, same constant reminders about the 2-hour limit the moment we ordered another round of drinks. To make things worse, when we asked to split the bill, he rudely told us to "circle what you had" on the receipt. That would have been fine if the items weren't all grouped together like "6 margaritas," "2 pretzels," "2 wings," etc. We ended up just splitting the bill evenly to make things easier for him. Later, while reviewing the receipt, we also noticed that some happy hour items were charged at full price. We've sat in the bar area many times before with other servers and never once experienced this kind of treatment or constant reminders about the time limit. Arturo seriously needs customer service training and should learn not to stereotype customers. Upon walking in, we had a variety of options to sit at, including stool tops directly facing the kitchen, booths, and the lower level casino room. The menu had a variety of options, including American and Mexican brunch food, sandwiches and burgers, and dinner platters. Since it was early in the day, we opted for two classic American Brunch dishes. I got a classic dish with two sunny-side up eggs, hash browns, two pancakes and a sausage. Everything was cooked to perfection, although I wish they had more vegetable options and included two sausages instead of one. My friend got the omelette dish, which was good, but did not include any meat/protein. Salt on the table. Simple, no complaints Porterhouse: asked for medium but it was more medium rare, which is fine. Tasty meat with quality as expected. Veggies on the side were salty and very buttery and paired well with my plain potato. Came on a Thursday night and it was packed with a live band going. Music wasn't too loud at all which I really appreciated, and the patrons were chill. The ambiance gives a throwback to old school American vibes and it's cool how you can pick the diner side or bluesy side. Really cute and friendly service. Good non-gimmicky food. this was the most thoroughly enjoyable meal i've had in a long time. Service: the first thing i encountered was Julies AMAZING laugh as i walked in the door. i don't remember what she was laughing at, i think my keys sounding like bells but her warm demeanor immediately made me smile & feel welcome. she showed me to a huge comfortable booth in the lounge area. our server Roman was outstanding; she is so warm & literally treated us like family. she was on top of everything, even noticing we loved the tartar sauce & bringing us extra. One side of the restaurant has a family oriented setting with a cute little counter available to sit at. The other side is more of a lounge with a full bar. Iven, the bartender here, is a gem. From start to finish, this restaurant exceeded all expectations! This was my first time visiting Keno's and honestly I'm upset that I didn't try it sooner! I walked in just looking for a drink or two while I passed some time between errands. I sat at the bar and before I could even decide what I wanted, Iven was right there with a smile to welcome me. I usually just sit and read something while sitting at the bar alone but Iven was so personable and funny that I didn't even pick up my phone once (which is a miracle -- if you know, you know). I figured if the drinks and the service were so good, I had to try some of the food too. I ordered the Cowboy Nachos and the sliders and they were exactly what I needed. I walked in as a stranger and walked out feeling like I had found a new friend. I will absolutely be back to visit.
