Great food here, the only reason I gave it four stars is because they got rid of my favorite meal(Chicken fried Chicken) and I recommend putting a online order pickup stand on the side outside pad so those people dont go inside and block walkways. I worked up an appetite this morning at the Ford Island Bridge 10K - burned 764 calories and needed to get some of it back. Yelp to the rescue! The nearest breakfast stop was KOA Pancake House at Moanalua Shopping Center, so off I went. Well, it was quick and did fill me up. Satisfying to the tastebuds...mmm...maybe not so much. It's actually a counter service place, so you have to stand in line to order (and the line was long...it looked like a lot of folks who did the Ford Island 10K had the same idea). Fortunately, the wait for a table isn't that long, but getting a table is on a finders-keepers basis, so be warned. Imagine my surprise when I found eggs Benedict on their menu. (Read my other reviews to find out why eggs Benedict is my breakfast benchmark.) Couldn't resist...I ordered it. Hollandaise was OK (could have used a bit more tang), and it was served on turkey and Canadian bacon and English muffin. And the eggs? I'd like to know how they got their poached eggs to be perfect, solid circles. I was happily munching away on one egg, then cut into the other...to find a totally solid yolk. Oops. Well...I guess it was a stretch to expect a place where the food comes out on paper plates to nail eggs benny. Sadly, I couldn't have any pancakes (no sweet stuff until tomorrow), so maybe I'll be back at one of their other locations to actually try their signature dish. read more

Service is still fast. Food is NO LONGER priced right because the portions stayed the same. Sadly, this is the last time I'm coming here. 9/11/17 @ around 8:45-9:00am. I got a N.Y Steak and I said I wanted a medium rare. I got my food, I had my first bite and my steak was very rare, I went to the front and asked nicely if I could get it a little bit cooked. They asked me how I wanted it, I said medium rare, they're arguing with me and saying that's medium rare. And they're saying "so you want medium well then??" I said no, I wanted it medium rare just wanted it a little bit more cook cause it's very rare, it got to the point that I don't really care anymore, I took the plate and said "it's fine, nevermind". Since my youngest has to have pancakes, we went to try Koa pancake house again. We've been here before but haven't in a while. The staff is so friendly and helpful. It was crowded so we had 3 people in a 2 person table. Good thing they have the couch seating. The hash were great, a bit crispy. Pancakes a bit chewy but still good. They serve you in paper plates so you can wrap it up if you need to go. They even gave us take out plate with a big smile. Great customer service. Makes you want to come back again! G read more

The French toast was fluffy, the fish tasted like it was swimming that same morning, and the eggs benedict were so beautiful we hardly wanted to eat! The prices are great as well. Honestly...of all of the Koa Pancake House restaurants I have tried this is my LEAST favorite. Why you ask? Lemme tell ya... Service is lightning quick like most Koa Pancake Houses. You blink your eye and there is your order. I swear the cooks have ESP there. Seating is generally crowded but I have never had to wait more than a few minutes for a seat. Outside seating is in the shade which is nice. Why the mediocre rating you ask? The food. It just does not stand up to the quality of the other Koa Pancake House I frequent. I hesitated to review this location after one visit so I held off. I didn't want to give a restaurant a poor review based on one experience. I have been here more than three times and it is pretty much consistent. I don't like these pancakes! It is a chain so what makes them different??? I can't put my finger on it. I have been coming here since I have moved to Hawaii. In fact it was the first place my friend I was living with took me to for my first meal in Hawaii. Even though this is a Pancake House I usually get the bacon omlete. The omletes are huge!!! They usually take up half the plate. And you also get a choice of sides. Me being the good midwestern girl I am, I usually get the homestyle potatoes. They are so yummy and semi healthy for you. I also always get the pineapple juice which is freaking delicious early in the morning. Everything I have had here is amazing and it reminds me of the small diners back at home. Also the prices are never too bad here. I have never spent more than 10 dollars on one meal. There are some draw backs though. When it actually is open the parking lot is usually full. So usually you have to walk from a far away parking spot or circle the parking lot like vultures. Also there is not alot of seating at this Koa Pancake house. Today my friend and I went to it and there was standing room only. Which really sucks. But if your willing to battle other people for parking spots and seats come to this place for amazing food. I have been to the other Koa's on the island and they have been pretty good. But today, I am very disappointed with the quality of the food I picked up this morning. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and a side order of bacon. I expect the eggs to be poached, not nearly fully hard cooked. I also would expect the english muffin to be toasted, not so tough it was nearly impossible to cut through it with a plastic fork which was provided. And finally the side order of bacon, I got side order container which had the bacon in it and it was nearly raw on one side and the other side was a little bit crispy. Every other time I have ordered it from one of their other locations, it came out crispy and tasty. This was limp and not so good. Finally, the home fries..... I have had home fries in alot of places and this one the potato was cooked throughout but they didn't even cook it long enough to get a little bit of crust cooked on it which is what I thought home fries were. She tried to tell my sister that she was giving a fake name and our order didn't exist when my sister literally had the order receipt open on their website!!! They're only opened for certain hours which my husband I learned when we stopped at this particular Koa, they close at 2pm on weekdays not sure about the weekends. Well we came here because we wanted pancakes and wanted to start taking our 14 month out to eat out in public places and this happened to be annotated as a kid friendly place. I figured as a pancake house they would have something out the ordinary that would set them apart...but really it's just a localized version of IHOP...can you tell I'm from the mainland? Ok I'm not that judgemental but you need to have something about your food that really says something about you. I ordered fried rice w/ eggs and my son blueberry pancakes w/spam...I figured out of our dishes he'll eat something...which he did. It was super crowded so were able to find a table outside. I don't want to disparage this pancake house, because I'm relatively new to the island and I'm still getting a feel for where the locals go or what is considered truly "Ono" vs. "Pilau" . The service was friendly, our short stack pancakes were quite substantial. I enjoyed my chocolate chip pancakes, with real chocolate taste, and there were quite a few flavors to choose from.....but no coconut pancakes? And is coconut flour a newer concept for gluten free cooking that hasn't caught on yet? A coconut pancake option would be nice to see, please. My daughter had the new Strawberry and Cream Cheese pancakes, which were very decadent and our bacon portion was hearty. My favorite breakfast place! Nice, fluffy pancakes - I like the banana ones. They have several types of syrups to top your pancakes with. The coconut syrup goes really well with the banana pancakes, so delicious! I also love their fried rice and the Portuguese vinha dalhos, which is a wine/garlic-marinated dry tender pork. It's a bit tangy in flavor, and it goes super well with the pancakes. The country fried potatoes are also quite well done, nice and crispy on one side and really flavorful. The atmosphere is more like a fast food place than a sit down restaurant. You order at the counter and then they call your number to come pick up your food when it's ready. I ordered the Portuguese sausage w/eggs and got banana pancakes. And me being a local boy I needed rice too so side order rice for me! Took about I say 5 minutes for my food to come out and a little longer for my girlfriend (maybe 9 mins) because she wants her steak well done (poor steak :[ lol). First off, they bring the plates to you at your seat which is good because I get really antsy when I'm just standing around, lol. The banana pancakes we're good and it came with 3 pieces. Tried it on it's own and pancakes were fluffy enough. Tried it with some coconut syrup made it taste better but it was really sweet. Then I tried it with that passion syrup.... NO THANKS... it tasted funny. I wonder if it was even for the pancakes, LOL. The sausage.. same ol same ol. It was the big pieces though that is cut at an angle which is good. Eggs are eggs, lol. This place was pretty decent. Came here with my coworkers for breakfast on my first day as a radiologist :) The company was great, the food itself was decent. The omelet was really good, but too small in my opinion. The pancakes were average tasting but nothing spectacular. The best thing about this place I think its the price and the cozy atmosphere. This place was less than mediocre. There are waaaay to many people here for it to be a decent establishment. They don't control how many people are allowed in at once and everything suffers because of it. The cooks were probably in a mad dash to serve as many people as possible and the food was not good. The pancakes were the only decent thing we had (We had eggs, sausage, Portuguese sausage, and Canadian bacon). There weren't enough servers there to have good service. Hawaiian residents know that for breakfast, Zippy's probably has everything you need. Luckily for me, I have a wife who suggested to try something new. This place is conveniently located near the NEX. My wife had suggested that we swing by since we started our errands early and on an empty stomach. Anything would've satisfied me at that point and I am always up for trying something new. We were started off with a nice glass of orange juice and guava. I took a nicely portioned omelette while my wife settled for the usual SPAM and eggs. I was pretty satisfied with my choice allowing rice on the side and toast for the wife. My only wish is that we could have tried out the pancakes which they seemed to have won awards for in the past. Didn't know there was a Koa Pancake House in this area. I've been on this island for 2 years and come to this area a couple dozen times and just today I noticed this little place at the corner. Well this place saved me this morning providing me the basic typical breakfast food I was craving for all morning. I woke up in the morning before 5 and had to get ready to go to Pearl Harbor. Had to take a test that could end right before lunch but depending how fast I can go through it. I made coffee to help me go through the morning but by the time it got done brewing it was already time to go, I only had a couple sips. No food and no caffeine I manage to fight my way through this. After the test I came out with my stomach giving me a large growl of "I hate you" and "feed me". Before I had to go back to work up at Wheeler I stopped by the Moanalua Shopping Center hoping to find something that would interest me. At the corner of my eye I saw this place and I was excited and surprised. I came in and see the whole restaurant was busy. almost a full house. I walked straight to the counter and tried to make a quick decision in what to get. I ordered their omelet with spinach, mushroom, and cheese with potatoes on the side. Waited for about 3 minutes and I was on my way out. My drive back to work has made me anxious to eat my breakfast. A feeling that felt like I was getting ready to open a Christmas present. At last got to work, grabbed my food, power walked with long strides to my office, sat down checked my messages on the computer and on the phone as I dig through my omelet and potatoes. I was filled with joy as I could finally tell my stomach to shut up and while shoving food in to it. This place was everything I'd thought it would be. It was packed and hard to find a seat. But I honestly think because I went on a Saturday morning and that it's located very close by to two military bases. Finding seats was pretty hard, you basically had to stand next to a table or a booth and as soon as they left you'd sit down. It felt like the local hawaii drive inn restaurants that served breakfast mostly. However, the food did get brought to us because we had a number to hold on to. The service was alright, my cashier was a local girl, kind of mean looking-- just not pleasant you know? They have the, "I don't want to be here" face and seemed pretty impatient.
