When I want vinha d'alhos for breakfast and if my husband also wants pancakes, we end up driving here. Only because I'm a picky breakfast eater and besides eggos and cereal, I really don't care for breakfast foods. That possibly could be because I don't like eggs. Anyway, I normally get the same thing every time which is vinha d'alhos, eggs, and rice. The husband and I share a stack of pancakes... which we normally don't finish but we get anyway because he likes pancakes. He gets an omlette or something of the sort. The service is fast and it's kinda like take out and then dine in. This was the second KOA Pancake House I went to after the Kaneohe one which is weird because it's full service there. I don't know which one I prefer. I like both of them. Food's decent, prices are okay too, and it's quick. Sometimes it's hard to find a table if you go late and the lines are long. Go if you're looking for something better than McDonald's. Totally better than Denny's too! read more

After having an awesome homemade omelette this past weekend at camp, I was craving for another.... We decided to head to Koa Pancake House, as I remember them having an array of omelettes to choose from. I ordered a ham, cheese, mushroom and spinach omelette with fried rice. My husband ordered an omelette as well, along with a side of pancakes. After ordering, we took our seats. Five minutes pass and a lady brings out my husband's omelette without the starch he ordered and his side of pancakes. When asking where his fried rice was, she rudely stated, "It's coming." Another 5 minutes went by until my part of the order arrived. When my omelette finally came, the order was wrong. The gal who took my order was apologetic as I took my plate back up to tell her my omelette was incomplete. The redo came back out to me in less than 5 minutes. To sum it up, I was a little disappointed with my breakfast experience this morning. The omelette did not satisfy my craving. However, the pancakes were good and the price can't be beat. Thank goodness for places like these. The menu is extensive. The prices are very reasonable considering the portion sizes. The quality of the food is always a hit. I have a mean relationship with the loco moco. Usually get the gravy on the side as I like my eggs medium. I always end up with a to go bag even when I split the meal down the middle to share with friends. The service at this location is alright. The ladies at the counter are rushed but they are attentive and helpful. Parking is not a problem, though you may have to park and walk. Only wish is that the hours were extended at least through dinner. A great way to start any day with lip smacking, finger licking good food. read more

I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered two short stacks, one red velvet, one banana, and a fruit plate. The great thing was how quickly everything came out. I'm used to wait 20 minutes at Denny's. Our food arrived in less than 10 minutes! The pancakes were fluffy and tasty. My husband did say his could of been less cooked, but that they tasted like cupcakes (red velvet). I expected just a small amount of fruit, but instead received a full plate. Mind you the berries were the frozen kind, but for $4.50 you can't expect more for that amount of fruit. read more

Came here with my wife to get a quick bite to eat for breakfast. When we walked in, we were a bit nervous that this may be a local hot spot but the food would be mediocre. My wife was the one that ordered. She got eggs, Portuguese sausage and pancakes. I had a coffee. I was not fond of their coffee. It was too bold for me and I couldn't get it light or sweet enough to my liking. The eggs were okay, nothing special and she at about half of it. The sausage were delicious and I could have eaten tons more. The pancakes were definitely the best item. Soft, fluffy and amazing. I guess that's why they call themselves a pancake house. It is definitely worth coming here for the pancakes. They also have crepes which I will definitely try the next time I come. Seating is very simple, a bunch of sit yourself open tables inside and some outside. The place does get packed and I believe it is a combination of the price and the pancakes. Enjoy! read more

It's really 3.5... I came here last week with my cousins and bf for a late breakfast. It looks like your typical fast food restaurants BUT the food is so much better! We ordered the #1 Special Omelet which came with Portuguese sausage, tomatoes, and spinach and the Lite Breakfast which is two pancakes, eggs any style, and bacon or links. They let me have mac nut pancakes instead of regular pancakes. =) The omelet was HUGE usually the bf finishes his food and then my food but this time he said he was actually full. The food here is not that good. I'm a horrible cook, but I have made better tasting omelets and pancakes. So I came here for breakfast, and I ordered the cheese, spinach, & mushroom omelet with the red velvet pancake side order. And despite the fact that I was starving, I couldn't finish my food. I ended up going to taco bell afterwards. The omelet was so bland and tasteless. I don't think they added salt or any type of seasoning. Of course, if you don't like salt or seasoning, this is the place for you. Even the cheese seemed bland, and I really don't know how that's possible. The mushrooms were really tough. I mean, mushrooms sometimes have a harder consistency and that's cool, but these were like rubber. Inedible rubber. The pancakes were the biggest disappointment. They actually didn't really taste like red velvet? It was a weird tasting thing. I love pancakes (especially red velvet), but these pancakes were so dry that they just crumbled away. I couldn't even pick them up with my fork because they would just fall apart. I normally hate using syrup on my pancakes and waffles, but I needed to drown my pancakes with the syrup to get some moisture into them. Then again, it could have situational. The day that I went was really busy and loud. So, the bad quality could have been a one-time thing. But honestly, after this experience, I don't want to chance it again in the future. I come here every time I leave the islands. I fill the tank at the Chevron and eat here before returning the rental car. Great for breakfast or lunch. Lots of choices from pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelettes or benedicts to burgers, sandwiches or loco mocos. Pancakes are fluffy but I would prefer if it had a skin to it - it's the same texture outside and inside. Vinha D'Alhos, a Portuguese style marinated pork, is crispy on the outside while still being tender enough to fall apart with a knife. The new strawberry cheesecake pancakes were delicious. I got a spinach and mushroom omelette. The egg was really over cooked. The vegetables were a little off somehow. You can get potatoes, rice or pancakes as a side. I got the pancakes and the texture was kind of weird. The syrup was also kinda weirdly textured. I also think that the waitress was kind of rude when she brought our food. She kind of talked over me and very loudly over us to another table at one point. I was kind of annoyed because we were all talking. Love this place, breakfast for myself and two kids is the same cost as McD's, comes out almost as quick and is SO good! My kids normally split a breakfast because the portions are huge. You walk up, order food at the register, and they bring it out to your table. You can get take out, which seemed to be really popular. The food is good. I had the red velvet and macadamia nut pancakes. The Red Velvet pancakes are fluffy and tasty, but they break apart easily. The Macadamia Nut pancakes are to die for. They are just awesome! I can only give this place stars for the food but the service severely ruined the experience. It was my first time trying this place because I heard it was good. The menu was easy to follow and I ordered a loco moco. When it was my boyfriend's turn to order, he started ordering and then the cashier just walked away from the register and pushed someone else to take his order. So he had to repeat himself because this cashier wasn't there to hear him. The previous cashier didn't excuse herself or anything. Just walked away, started doing other things and chit chatting with other workers. Not a very polite or friendly staff at all. I asked for water and they never mentioned the water was to the side by the drink machine. It would've at least been nice to point that out since we were first time customers. Then the girl that brought our food out was yelling back to her coworkers to make sure it was our order. Not sure why they bother giving you a number. On the bright side, my loco moco was good. I was really surprised on the great quality of food served here! Some breakfast places just serve you greasy food on a plate but our meal at Koa pancake house was one I craved everyday afterwards. I got the Koa Benedict and the taste of it was just phenomenal! I highly recommend it if you like eggs Benedict for breakfast! The portion was huge for just $9. What a deal for such great food. Got it along side a strawberry and cream waffle which was equally as yummy. If I had one negative thing to say it would be about the whip cream served on the waffle. It comes out on a hot waffle so unfortunately you'll have to stuff your face with waffle within minutes of it arriving at your table. If not all the cheaply aerosol whip cream who'll melt and your left with a soggy strawberry (no whip cream) waffle. I really look forward to eating here again though. I'm a big fan of the Koa Pancake House on 12th Avenue in Kaimuki. So, I decided to try this location based on the stellar food and service I've experienced at the Kaimuki location. This one on Valkenburgh Street has the signature koa walls, but it is a much smaller establishment. Because of its proximity to Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam and military housing, there were many military patrons in uniform enjoying their meals. I liked the service flags hanging from the ceiling; that added to the ambiance. My steak was cooked to perfection (medium-rare!) and the eggs were fried to satisfaction.
