In search of this hidden pink cafe, I finally spotted them at the same location as Lucca's Pizza (they share the space). Aside from the usual cafe items, you can expect a menu of Italian entrees like pasta and flatbreads, shelves of wine, and aesthetic looking desserts all in one location. As I was interested in the food, that would have to be a review for a future visit! I loved their butterfly printed latte art that I've seen all over their photos. The coffee does come at a steep price with tip and a sub of oat milk. Any hot latte can be made with the design so I opted for a caramel latte. It was topped with rose petals and came in a medium sized mug. I was met with friendly service from Mary, the owner. I wanted to get some work done here, and although possible, didn't find it the coziest setting as it is shared with diners of Lucca's. I'm not sure if they will have their own space but it definitely would make their overall theme of the cafe more coherent! Usually pink themed cafes are a bit overdone and are expected to be overpriced, but I didn't mind Kouklas cafe. My rating would be a 4/5 stars!

One word: PINK! Went here for Galentine's with my girl Serena!! We took in all the aesthetics. Love the butterflies on my matcha latte. Loved the big mirror. This is my kinda café. The owner Mary was so friendly and made us feel at home. We'll definitely be back. You can park in the complex and/or across the street by the shopping. center. Everything I needed and more. Hard to find. Luccas Pizza is the only sign one will ever see as the owner is prohibited from displaying the name of her Cafe anywhere on the premises or even OUTSIDE/INSIDE the premises. LOLOL Who, in their right mind, would agree to such a thing? I had to call to locate, and the Nice Middle Eastern lady answering the phone said to me, "I'm inside Luccas." She says she's (desperate to sign a lease, any lease). Prices are a bit aggressive; they have to be, she has no walk-in traffic. And no signs to display that her Cafe even exists, this place only exists by the grace of Yelp and Word of Mouth. 4 me, it was one of the many people I follow (daily) on Yelp. Of all the photos displayed thus far on this website, not one shows the actual front; so I will. Parking is iffy at best.

Great coffee shop to go when you are in the mood for something special. When you walk in the ambience is done to the max. It's an explosion of pink flowers and totally bougie, perfect for your Instagram photo shoots, but ironically, they don't have an Instagram page. I checked! The owner helped us and made us a cappuccino and a latte. My cappuccino had a little butterfly and flower petals and was so lovely. I selected a dessert sampler which she upfront told me was $36. A bit steep, but you've got to see these desserts! Handcrafted and absolutely beautiful. If you're not wanting to spend that much, you could just get a slice of cake or a single dessert but we were having a special occasion. I also appreciate her, letting us know the price so there was not a sticker shock when we got rang up. The coffee drinks were superb and the desserts tasted as good as they look. Each one totally different. The back of Kouklas is kind of a convenience store/wine shop. There are a few tables and it looks like folks could come in for special events if they wanted to. We saw a few other food items go out, woodfired pizzas, some hummus arrangement, etc.. that looked very good. This café is tucked into the side of a little shopping center below an apartment complex in Mission Valley. You would never know it was there unless you were looking for it. There is a small parking deck available.

This place is really hidden away! But such a cute surrounding area! This was also a recent place I visited that was oh, so very, very pink. I'm not sure what the obsession is with tiny pink shops, but I don't love it. Decor was pretty unimpressive. It's pretty weird that the pink just stops mid-store to show a small market. My mom got a latte, which she said was unimpressive and she's definitely had better. I ended up getting a Raspberry Mascarpone treat of sorts. It was overly sweet and you couldn't taste any raspberry, just mascarpone. Pretty disappointing. I don't think the treats were made here considering the hostess wasn't too knowledgeable about what each treat was.

Great ambiance, the most adorable desserts, and great service! Employees were very helpful with what was popular and what to choose. Lots of great options, and everything was beautiful. I got the butterfly chai latte and a raspberry pistachio cloud cake. All the desserts looked so good! My latte had great flavor and was the perfect amount of sweet. Very cute place tucked away in the Promenade. We were a little confused, is a market or is it a café? It's both! We were greeted by the lovely lady behind the counter. The beautiful desserts and pastries drew us to this spot but unfortunately it was a miss. We came close to 2:00pm and there were only a few pastries left. Though the desserts looked good, I wasn't convinced they were made in house. When I inquired if they were indeed made there she said yes. We settled on the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake. She plated a slice with two forks to share. I look over at the frozen beneath the drink menu and see a box labeled cheesecake. That was utterly disappointing. I don't mind eating desserts that are made elsewhere. I just don't appreciate being lied to about it. Honesty is important when I am supporting local businesses. The cheesecake flavor was good the freshness was questionable. Definitely had the defrosted taste. While this place is super cute, I don't like the lack of integrity. Will not return.

This is literally a HIDDEN Gem! A friend found this on yelp for us to meet and since I arrived first I was surprised it was part of a residential community but also I couldn't find the coffee shop based on my map. Before leaving the parking lot I had to call the place and ask where it is. Hiding in plain sight at the exit of the community inside the pizza place. Once in I loved the whole decor. A mini pink wonderland! The woman who helped us was super sweet and the mocha latte I ordered was delicious. Plenty of seating for an afternoon coffee date and cute seating outside with spots for IG opportunities. Can't go wrong to visit this spot!

This is my 50th review... and I'm happy to recommend Kouklas Cafe. I went here with my fiancee on a weekday afternoon. We both had a craving for coffee and a pastry, and decided on Kouklas after reading the stellar reviews. In short, I give five stars to the service (thank you, Mary!), the flavor of the coffee and pastries. I wasn't the biggest fan of the interior seating area 4 stars, and it's not because I don't like pink. I do. The cafe is situated in a multi-use apartment complex, and shares space with a convenience store and restaurant. Inside, I experienced a lot of random traffic and loud talking coming from the restaurant side. Next time, I'll try the outdoor patio.

I came to Kouklas Cafe with my son on an early Sunday afternoon. It's super cute with a pink cherry blossom type tree and pink accents everywhere. I love the music they play, some sort of Latin instrumental guitar vibe. It really sets the tone although I'm not sure it fits the decor. The helpful gal behind the counter took our order of ham and cheese croissant, some sort of egg dish (my son ordered this), and two chai tea lattes. Everything was delicious, but I wish there was more substance to the croissant. It was like 1 piece of thinly sliced ham and 1 thinly sliced cheese. It was good, just not outstanding. For dessert, my son and I shared the Basque cheesecake which was very good. This cafe appears to be family owned which is attached to the pizza restaurant/market. The family/owners were having lunch while we were there which was nice to see. When we left, they all thanked us and said goodbye. I would return and try another drink and pastry. Super chill and 1-hour free parking in the apartment complex. read more

I reached out to Mary to order a cake for my engagement. We had a full conversation, and I even provided pictures of exactly what I wanted. We confirmed the details and the date for my engagement cake. On the actual day of my engagement, just a few hours before the event, I called to check in and was shocked when Mary told me she had nothing written down. She claimed I never paid her or called back, even though we had already discussed everything in detail. Instead of taking responsibility, she was aggressive and unapologetic, repeatedly saying I should have known to call a few days before or stop by her bakery ... instructions she never once gave me. She also never requested a deposit, so I had no reason to believe my order wasn't secured. The entire interaction was extremely unprofessional and left me scrambling with no backup plan just 3 hours before my party started. read more

I was visiting San Diego for the weekend and decided to come here due to the good reviews and pretty butterfly lattes. I'm a matcha lover and so I ordered the matcha latte. Unfortunately the taste was horrible. My sister ordered a regular latte and didn't like the taste of her drink either. We also got a carrot cake to share which also was not good. We thought it may have been old or expired. Such a bummer because the drinks were on the pricier side. 2 stars are for the aesthetics of the coffee shop and drinks. read more

A small cafe with good beverages and desserts. I like the cute decors and chill vibe. The service is excellent, someone is always at the register to answer your questions and take your order. I got a hot chocolate and it was so good; not too sweet, strong chocolate taste and it's creamy. We got a few dessert dishes and they were really good too, not too sweet and flavorful. I cannot recommend Mary at Koukla's Café enough! I asked her to create a lemon cake for my friends' anniversary, and she went above and beyond. From the start, Mary was incredibly detailed--she asked for very specific information (and even pictures) to ensure the cake was exactly what I envisioned. She puts a lot of love and work into her creations, so be prepared to provide details and put down a deposit--it's absolutely worth it. The cake itself was divine: moist, bursting with fresh lemon flavor, and beautifully decorated. It was the perfect centerpiece for the celebration and a huge hit with everyone. Beyond the cake, I'll definitely be back to enjoy more of Koukla's Café and their adjoining business, Lucca's Pizzeria. Their pizzas and other offerings are just as amazing. If you want something crafted with care, detail, and deliciousness, this is the place! read more

I'm only giving a one and would quickly change my review once I try this place! I was upset as the schedule says open till 10:00pm. Left my work place in Lemon Grove drove all the way to Imperial Beach excited to try this place and to our downfall it was closed. We got there around 9:00pm. Hope to try this place soon. What a sweet spot! Owner Mary is the kindest and her pastries and desserts are phenomenal! They not only taste incredible, but they are beautiful. All the detail and love put into them. As a baker I know that everything you do must be done with love. Whether while it's making things or speaking to customers it should be done with love. Unfortunately with the baker Mary, that's not what she does at all. My best friend was finishing up getting ready for her engagement party, decided to call Mary the baker to see when she could go pick up her cake because they had placed an order with her for one. A cake for any event is important especially if it's done in a hall and photos are being taken, it's what completes a party. Mary with the most horrible tone told her she had never placed a deposit ( a deposit was never told) so a cake was never placed to order. I deal with people and understand frustration but the tone she had is the tone my best friend should have had with her knowing that she had no cake now. As I listen to the conversation Mary is screaming over the phone with no respect and caused my best friend to be stunned to speak and left helpless. Mind you she had asked for a very simple cake. You would think a person would provide different options or even different bakers that would be able to save the day. But nothing. Nothing was provided to her she was left stranded. No person should ever be treated or talked to in that way especially on their special day. Luckily, Royal Sweets on Main St. was able to provide her with a beautiful two tiered cake in the matter of two hours. May God bless them and their business and for helping my best friend and making her day complete. Mary needs to learn how to deliver to people when speaks have more clearer communication and needs to not be disrespectful when she's angry. That is not a way to bring business in, do better. read more

This "business" is a complete JOKE!! Mary canceled on me THE DAY OF my party, after weeks of knowing the details, and then tried to blame it on "deposits" that were never once mentioned upfront. That's not a policy, that's an excuse. Real businesses honor their word, communicate clearly, and respect their customers' events. What they did was shady, careless, and flat-out scam-like behavior. If you're thinking of ordering from them don't. They'll waste your time, ruin your event, and then try to spin it as if it's your fault. Zero professionalism. Zero accountability. Zero integrity. At the end she did not offer to help with anything and left me stranded Royal sweets in El Cajon took care of me got it done read more

What a unique hidden culinary gem! It is tucked away in a residential area inside Luca's Pizzeria Market. Parking may be a challenge. We lucked out and scored a parking sport on the street just a few steps from the place. I had the cloud. Magical! I don't think I've had anything like it before. The texture of the mousse was more firm with a berry-jam like filling set on top of a thin matcha cake base layer. I paired my dessert with a chai latte with almond milk. It was served with butterfly and flower petals on the surface. A truly memorable dessert experience! The owner, Mary, is talented and artistic with her creations, amicable and hospitable. Carmel Mocha, Matcha Chai 10 out of 10 so yummy!! Presentation on the servings were incredibly beautiful and so delicious. Let's talk about the amazing service. Mary went above and beyond with her excellent customer service as well with her coffee presentations. The service was amazing. Thank you Mary you will definitely see us again. Ambiance is absolutely incredibly beautiful with pink flowers, beautiful tea sets hearts shaped stirring spoons. Definitely a great place for a photo shoot. 10 out of 10 what are the best coffee shops I have been to. Highly recommended to everyone bringing all my friends to this beautiful cafe. This cafe is gorgeously decorated with pink colors, flowers, and gifts. The bakery case is filled with cheesecakes, crème brûlée, tiramisu, and specialty items. Mary, the owner, was very kind and helpful. We ordered a slice of the Oreo cheesecake and it was absolutely delicious! This cafe would be ideal for a special catch up coffee with girlfriends, a date night, or a mother-daughter treat day. I'd highly recommend both the cafe and Lucca's Pizzeria and Market as they share the same space. We'll definitely return if we travel here again! read more

first off the atmosphere is fantastic. the cafe transports you to a nice lil peaceful hideaway that is also bubbly and warm. this lil hideaway is attached to a pizzaria as well which adds a level of uniqueness and a nice variety that pairs nicely. i went mid-late afternoon and was able to finish with a nice glass of wine to stroll through the corner of the cafe with a clothing boutique after a wonderful sweet treat and a gorgeous latte. every corner of this cafe is curated with love to bring color to your world. thank you mary read more

My nine year old kid is very picky about desserts but ate everything on her plate. We loved the mango passion fruit and crème brûlée cheesecake. Friendly staff and such nice serving plates and spoons. Cozy decor, cherry blossom theme. Clean and nice. They also have couches and pillows. Such a great place, would gladly recommend. read more

Was our first time today as we found it on Instagram and it lived up to adorable vibes. The owner was kind and friendly and the butterflies in our chai's in our beautiful pink swans and gorgeous gold platter were delicious!!!!! This cafe is a dreamy spot with charming pink decor, marble tables, and adorable kitchen supplies perfect for a cute hangout or photo worthy dessert break. We tried a variety of treats!! a tiramisu. a smooth, caramel-topped cheesecake, a citrus mousse with a daisy design and a creamy cookies-and-cream slice. The drinks were just as stunning especially the matcha and pink latte, topped with flowers and butterflies. Everything tasted as good as it looked, and the vibe was relaxed and cozy. First off this place can be easily missed if you don't pay attention to its location as it's a little hidden. It's located inside the pizza place. Charming setting. The owner is quite pleasant and very nice to talk to. Had the lemon cake Crème Brûlée cheesecake. Both were good. Recommend the cheesecake more and it's their best seller. I walked into this café really hoping to have a great experience, but unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst I've had. Right as I walked in, the girl behind the register didn't greet me or smile. There was no warm welcome at all, just a cold and indifferent attitude that completely clashed with the cute pink décor. The place photographs nicely for TikTok, but what's the point of a pretty setup if the service doesn't match it? I ordered an Açaí bowl and a Matcha with vanilla, simple enough. Parking wasn't easy to find since it's a residential area mixed with businesses, but I was patient and finally got inside ready to enjoy my order. After about 15 minutes, my Matcha came out, and it wasn't sweetened as I asked. When I politely went up to ask for the vanilla syrup to be added, the girl acted like she didn't even remember me asking for it. Then came the real frustration: after all that waiting while she is correcting my Matcha beverage, she tells me they don't have Açaí bowls, something that could have easily been mentioned when I first ordered and paid. Instead, I had to stand there, re-decide what to order, and ended up settling for the Avocado Toast (which was the same price). She almost tried to charge me again until I reminded her I already paid. After waiting another 10-15 minutes, a man from the pizza place next door (apparently connected to the café) finally brought out my food with no greeting, no smile, just a dirty look and silence. Really? For a café that's all about presentation and social media appeal, they completely miss the mark on the basics of customer service. There was no warmth, no efficiency, and no attention to detail. Whether your order is big or small, every customer deserves good service, not to feel ignored or treated like an inconvenience. I left completely frustrated and disappointed. Next time, I'll just go to Starbucks, at least they get it right, and they do it with a smile. I will not be coming back. read more

The space is incredibly adorable and aesthetic, making it a perfect spot for photos and meeting up with friends. I highly recommend the Butterfly Chai Latte--it was delicious, beautifully presented, and definitely lived up to the cute aesthetic of the shop. However, the overall experience was hampered by inconsistent service and disappointing food. When we first arrived, one of the tables was noticeably dirty, and despite the place being empty, it remained uncleaned for quite a while. Furthermore, after we placed our order, two other customers walked in. The employee then spent a considerable amount of time answering their detailed questions, to the point where we felt a bit ignored while waiting for our order. Finally, the menu items were a major letdown, and I would strongly advise against going to this cafe specifically for the food. We found the dishes to be bland and poorly priced. The Açaí Bowl was extremely small for its cost, offering poor value. We also tried the Ham and Cheese Croissant, which lacked flavor. I ordered the Oreo cheesecake, lemon macaron, pink lady, and tiramisu along with a matcha and chai latte. The desserts were just okay, nothing memorable. As for the drinks, they were disappointing. I visited this restaurant and café recently, and it was absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was amazing, and the desserts were simply unforgettable. I came in for lunch, then stayed for cake and coffee with my friend, and hours passed without us even noticing because the atmosphere was so beautiful and relaxing. The owner was such a sweetheart! My coworker and I stopped by before work just to grab a small bite and coffee but we were wowed by the decor and atmosphere, then we saw all the pastries in the display and tried one of everything. Let me tell you we were blown away by everything down to the drinks, food, and hospitality. We will definitely come again for the grand opening and we're so glad that we stumbled upon this gem before it inevitably gets popular. read more

Mary is the generous owner of this cafe and it's such a hidden gem! More folks need to come try her pastries that are made by her and the sugar level is perfect. Which is not too sweet. Just right. It's connected to Lucca's Pizzeria who baked this beautiful masterpiece I devoured! I ate too fast y'all. Their Mediterranean options are some I've never tried and I'm excited to come back with my kids. read more
