Marta is so, so cute. The whole vibe is minimalist, chic, and just a really nice place to slow down for a bit. My friend and I split a savory scone and a parfait, and both were delicious. The jam in the parfait was especially good! I got the rosemary latte, and my friend ordered an Americano. We both really enjoyed everything we ordered. The pastry case looked amazing, and there were so many other things on the menu that I already want to come back and try. It's also a great spot to work with both indoor and outdoor seating. They have a bathroom in the back, and street parking nearby.
I've been wanting to check this coffee shop out for a while since I get my nails done across the street every now and then. I finally decided to stop by on a Tuesday morning to get some work done, and this seemed like the perfect spot. I arrived around 9:30 a.m., and the place was packed. They have a decent amount of indoor seating along with a few outdoor tables, but almost every seat was occupied by people working or studying. I was actually debating whether to stay because there wasn't a single open seat, but just as I was about to leave, someone packed up and I was able to share a larger table with another customer. The café itself is simple but very cute, with a bright, clean aesthetic and lots of white throughout the space. It has a comfortable atmosphere that's great for getting work done. They had a nice selection of pastries, and it looked like many of them were baked in-house. I was torn between the Orange Olive Oil Cake and the Pistachio Orange Croissant, but ultimately went with the cake. I'm glad I did--it was incredibly moist, not overly sweet, and had a really nice balance of citrus and olive oil flavors. As for the coffee, I can't say much since I just ordered the house drip coffee. One thing to keep in mind is that this place is very popular. There was a constant stream of people coming in, so if you're planning to work here, I'd recommend arriving early because finding a seat can definitely be a challenge. Also the parking in this area is limited as well. The one area that could use some improvement is the customer service. I noticed a few other reviews mentioning the same thing, and I had a similar experience. When I walked in, there wasn't any greeting or acknowledgment, and even when I stepped up to order, the staff seemed more focused on chatting with each other than engaging with customers. No one was rude, but the interaction felt a bit indifferent. I think a warmer, more welcoming attitude would make an already nice coffee shop an even better place to visit. Overall, I'd come back for the atmosphere and the pastries--especially that Orange Olive Oil Cake. Next time, I'll just plan to get there a little earlier to improve my chances of finding a seat.
I've gone here 3 times so far and have been satisfied every time! I was really surprised by how amazing the pastries are bc a lot of coffee shops -imo- don't have the best pastries or they all are provided by the same bakery. Im pretty sure they make their pastries in house. You must try : the mole croissant (might be called something else but holy shit that blew my mind) and one of the sweet scones (I've had the seasonal one which is lavender something and the lemon blueberry, both were incredible nd scones are hard to make!!) Every time I've gotten the rosemary latte and have not been disappointed. They've got a lot of seating and lighting so it's a good place to study or catch up with people. The service has been fast and friendly too :)
I got an iced americano with coconut water and it's usually hard to find at many places. I love the options that they have. coffee was delish but the salmon toast was the star of the show! the house smoked salmon was just so good, it tasted fresh and not fishy. the cup of salsa macha was extra, but I highly recommend it. it adds so much flavor, without the overwhelming heat. I wanna come back and try more food! lol
Came here in a Tuesday morning and it was quite busy. There was a long line but it's worth it after trying this place! (We did street parking). The place is very bright, clean and spacious with many tables and chairs. They also have patio seating as well. I love that they have many variety of drinks and food/pastries. My boyfriend and I both got iced lattes, one vanilla with oat milk and one pinicillo (Mexican brown sugar) with whole milk. All their syrups are house made which I look forward to in coffee shops. We also got a blueberry scone. We didn't wait too long for the coffee they were pretty quick. Once we both took a sip of our lattes we knew instantly this is our new favorite place! The latte was amazing! strong taste of coffee with a subtle sweetness. We are not a fan of overly sweet coffee and overly water/milky down coffee. The scone was very delicious and just the right amount of sweetness. Definitely will be coming back to try other stuff. Total price was about 19$.
Lots of seating indoors and outdoors and I like that we get to add our own sweetener if we liked! I thought their matcha was just okay, it wasn't really strong and their strawberry match was very tarte. The workers were not really friendly, it seemed like they didn't want to be there.
Cool space with lots of natural light, matcha offerings and a simple food menu. Their website pastry case is an eye catcher when you walk in. Indoor and outdoor seating on both sides of the building. Service was friendly and quick when I went. There were no seats inside though sadly. Bonus they source their matcha from PARU (local specialty tea shop) so you know it's good. Prices are fair for what you get. Food wise I got the summer seasonal quiche that came with a side salad ($12) veggies and it was tasty.
What a cool coffee shop! When I heard of Marta taking over Twiggs on Adams Ave. I immediately thought, great, another coffee shop! Just what we need (insert sarcasm here). What I didnt know was Marta. Marta is cool. Marta is vibey. Marta is minimalist. Marta is an artist. Marts is a lover. And, well Marta is indeed Marta. The exterior/interior with its white walls. Some tiles here and there. A couple books on the shelf. Some pottery, a picture or two. And, that's it, that's the vibe. I ordered their rosemary latte- it was ok. I couldnt smelll the rosemary but the latte was good nonetheless. I sat on one of their benches/tables to sip on my latte. A couple of people were on their laptops- but surprisingly the place was not too packed. My heart dropped when I heard spanish tunes playing. What a total treat and unusual vibe. You would think there would be more coffee shops like this one, vibey, cool, with spanish language music on the speakers. Kuddos! Only disappointed I didn't find this cafe sooner!! Their strawberry matcha was the perfect sweetness! I prefer more of a matcha taste than the sweetener and they gave me just that. The service was great! The person helping us out gave of recommendation and even helped us find a breakfast place near by! They had lots of tables inside to sit and work at.
Marta is a very bright shop with tons of natural light seeping in through the big windows with plenty of seating inside and out. You may struggle with parking but your worries will disappear once you step inside. The iced vanilla almond milk latte was delicious while the seasonal coconut cold brew was disappointing. I expected more coconut but never got it. Their drink menu includes a variety of coffee and tea, which I appreciate. I love a good dirty chai or matcha, and Marta seems popular for both. The service was excellent and super friendly. Their pastries come warmed and you better believe I drooled over the cheddar jalapeño scone in the case.
Great place to socialize or work. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options available. I ordered the honey cinnamon latte and the coconut pastry, both were really good. The pastry was cute Easter theme and had little chocolate eggs in the middle.
Stopped by Marta before heading to the zoo. I got their strawberry matcha with oat milk and easily sucked it down. My partner ordered a Cortado that he said was fine. Parking is slim but when you can find it, this is a cute coffee shop to stop in to.
Marta, Marta, Marta: how I longed to love you so. I first found this spot on Instagram, and came here seeking yet another place to get my coffee on while doing laptop work. Situated a few blocks from the mecca of busyness (Little While, Nomade, An's Dry Cleaning, and Polite Provisions), it's nice to be *near* the room where it happens -- not in it. // THE GOOD -- AMBIANCE -- Marta is *that* girl on Insta, and rightfully so. The light hits the shop *just* right, and is an eye candy place to work in: clean and contemporary. This is definitely a place to get work done over a few hours. The shop is not large, but it's also not impossible to grab a spot. Walking into the shop itself, you'll see 2-3 tables against the wall outside. Step inside and you'll find a few two-seater tables with bench seating and a chair; to your left, a large communal table scooted to the windows, plus a few more two-seaters and two bathrooms down the way. I'd also like to mention, since I haven't seen it photographed much: they have a backyard patio! Spacious and airy, here is a good place to sit and gab with a friend. On hot days before sundown, though, light fills this courtyard with no coverage to find respite in shade. (But San Diegans like sun, eh? So just bring a hat, your sunglasses / sunscreen, and enjoy the heat.) Either way, it's nice to have extra space like this, especially if the inside is packed. -- BAKED GOODS -- I can't speak to the pastries in the *main* case though they look plump and delicious (croissants, I'm looking at you!). These tend to be photographed the most on their socials, so I'm guessing they're a hit. As a gluten free and mostly dairy free girly, I don't expect to get a taste at many coffee shops. But Marta, thankfully, keeps us dietary restriction folks in mind! I got to have a GF / DF cookie which was actually quite good (many GF cookies leave a yuck aftertaste from the flour they use). I am also, unfortunately, allergic to walnuts and almonds, and am happy to report the cookies do NOT have either. Shoutout to the staff for checking for me! :) BONUS CALLOUT to them for keeping their GF cookies in a case SEPARATE from the main case. I've not seen any other shop do this, and I highly appreciate their efforts to not cross-contaminate. -- SERVICE -- I've seen poor reviews about service, and that made me hesitant. Maybe Marta talked to their employees or maybe that reviewer had a bad encounter, but I've had surprisingly pleasant service the 2-3 times I've gone. They're very helpful with the menu and, depending on the server, upbeat. I'm down with that! // THE OKAY -- MATCHA -- Disappointed by their coffee (see below), I thought I'd try my hand, or taste buds, at the matcha. I'm not a matcha girly but I appreciate a good cup... and as a culture purist, appreciate, even further, a strong, saturated matcha. I got an iced oat matcha latte with a hint of vanilla (look, I know I said I'm a purist, but I hadn't tried this shop's matcha yet to trust it would taste good on its own). Gratefully, they did not overpower the drink with the sweetness of the vanilla, and the matcha was not watered down like it can be at other shops. Was it the best matcha? No. But I didn't have a problem with this drink, as I did the coffee. -- PARKING -- Like I mentioned above, trying to visit the shops a few blocks down (Little While; Fuzz Coffee) means adding an extra 20-30 minutes to your visit: for parking, and for waiting in line. Marta sits on a main street, but is nestled in a neighborhood: one I haven't had too much trouble finding parking in. There are also spots available in front, on the main street -- free spots, not metered, as you'll find in many other parts of town (including on Adams Ave.) // THE BAD -- COFFEE (!!) -- Sigh... the one reason I go to coffee shops, aside from working outside my home, is for good coffee. I mean, paying $8 a cup nowadays, I'd want it to be good. Unfortunately, Marta doesn't seem too focused on its coffee program. When I asked which beans they used (for my husband, an even bigger coffee aficionado than me) I expected they'd roasted their own beans, or got it sourced from a well-known roaster. Nope; the barista couldn't even tell me who it was. Instead, they showed me: a bag of coffee blends, from some unknown label. And when I tasted my oat milk latte... eugh, it tasted burnt. Like Starbucks (sorry to say). Look, I get it; having a brick and mortar in San Diego and turning a profit margin high enough to pay good employees and exist in the most expensive city, is no easy feat. So I understand if coffee is not their focus, but providing a nice place for people to work and gather. For that, I'm not mad... I just won't be ordering their coffee. // IN SUM Come to work, catch up with friends on the patio, or enjoy the vibe. The coffee? Meh. Grab that somewhere else.
Marta is a very cool coffee shop with some Spanish vibes and a minimalist setup. To get here, street parking will be your best bet and there is a good amount of it around the area. Inside, they have a lot of seating with good natural lighting. For their menu, they have a solid selection of matcha, coffee, and other bites to choose from. Wifey and I stopped by for a quick matcha run so we only got a Matcha Mango to try. They source their matcha from PARU so you could definitely taste the quality! read more
Cool, clean spot to feed my Espresso Tonic fixation. Busy on a Sunday but no problem finding a seat to watch the local San Diego crowd indulge in tasty looking pastries. Super friendly staff... ...but giving their Espresso Tonic only a 4. A bit too syrupy and a point off for no citrus slice... ...but still worth the drop in if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Solids cute cafe. I got a small coffee cappuccino and it was delicious. Service was quick! I also ordered a chicken mole pastry heated. It was amazing. Ambiance is casual and inviting. Definitely a cute place to meet up with a friend and chat (I did!) also would be great to do work here. read more

Inside and interior were so cute! I've been wanting to try this place for a while, but coffee was bitter and you could barely taste any flavor. I'm really disappointed because I spent over $7 on it as well. The inside also has no outlets, so I don't recommend coming to study!!! read more
This place is a 10/10 FOR SURE. Such a cute little spot right on Adams, incredibly walking friendly (as almost any place in North Park is). The interior is adorable and they have solid seating choices. The espresso was really delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed my drink. This may be a new go-to spot for me! read more
This place is so cute! Super fresh and clean vibe. The aesthetics are very bright and modern. They have really cool mugs and ceramic art/merch you can buy. Plenty of seating space inside. The pastries are absolutely phenomenal! They have incredible flavors like a black sesame banana loaf and a chicken mole croissant. I want to try all of the pastries they look delicious. Fast service and kind workers! They offered to remake any drink to attain the perfect sweetness level. Can't wait to come back and try the Mexican mocha latte! read more
I had lunch just down the block before visiting Marta on this stretch of Adams Ave in the University Heights neighborhood. It's a nondescript coffee shop with a plain white facade. Parking was all curbside in this area, however empty spaces were easily found. I noticed a few outside tables to the west of the building, but they were all unoccupied. Inside the suite was more seating that could hold at least a couple of dozen customers. By the time I arrived in the afternoon, no baked goods were left which I guess was a good sign because they're selling out their daily inventory. The service counter was to the far right. Several copies of the paper menu were available for viewing. Ten choices of coffee, six kinds of tea, and four other beverages were available. There was also a small separate menu of five seasonal drinks. I picked the last one from that list which was a Cranberry Matcha Latte. The components were PARU matcha, cranberry compote, and oat milk. Many places use strawberry as the fruit of choice for matcha lattes so it was nice to see a different berry as a compote. For $7.50, the serving size was small. The matcha flavor was decent but not as strong as a few other cafes around town. The cranberry added tartness to the drink which wasn't as complementary compared to strawberry. The barista made the order fairly quickly. I gave a rating between three and four stars for my experience at Marta. read more

Coffee was good ,interior is very cute. Tons of seating. I just really feel like the barista was lowkey rude to me and very un welcoming and monotone. Yet the people behind me who they obviously knew it was a totally different personality. I get knowing people and being more yourself but I've been a barista and I just feel like they were super unfriendly to me. Not a super comfortable experience probably won't come back for that reason. read more
I came across this café while I was working at another coffee shop nearby, and the bright, open space immediately caught my eye, so I added it to my list. When I finally stopped by, I found it to be a great place to get some work done. They have several small tables inside, and almost everyone there was either studying or working. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I ordered a latte and a butter croissant. Both were good, although I was a little disappointed that they don't offer "for here" cups when I asked. My favorite thing about this café is how bright and airy it feels. The large open windows let in so much natural light and fresh air, making it a really relaxing place to spend a few hours. This has definitely become one of my favorite cafés to work from, and I'd happily come back again. I just hope they start offering ceramic mugs for people who want to enjoy their coffee there. read more

Wow such a busy cafe! I understand the hype around it--aesthetically pleasing inside with good vibes and low music playing, tables for working and plenty outside as well. The service was very nice and hinted at some cold foam recipes coming very soon! The strawberry matcha would be even better with it, slightly on the bitter side but creamy. The black sesame banana bread was so moist on the inside and had this amazing crust on the outside. I would love to try their chicken mole croissant next. Sadly parking is still pretty difficult in the area so be prepared to park far or go early because residents take up most of the parking. read more

The vibes are cute and I love how bright the space is. The drinks are mid and expensive. I got the Mexican mocha and you can see from the pic that for $7 it wasn't even filled to the top. The flavor was fine but could have been a little more spiced for my preference. My friend got the seasonal matcha cranberry and that was pretty good. The cranberry wasn't too tart and seemed to be made in house. Service was friendly and quick. Lots of seating although only indoors. read more

Marta is another great coffee shop in North Park located on the Adams Ave side of town. I saw mixed reviews on the drinks so I was looking forward to trying it out. First impressions were good - it was a busy but not annoyingly busy shop, had the classic decor of many other shops in the area but still cute, and got to order quickly from someone who was kind. I went with the Paru (IFYKYK this is the best option for Matcha in the city) Matcha Latte with 1/2 sweet House-made Vanilla syrup. It was good but honestly not unlike the ones i've made at home. I'd probably want to try their coffee next time! Pro tip: they are making pies for pre-order for Thanksgiving! read more

I would say the bright space and the tile matching the colors of your drink drinks and the friendly service is worth a visit. There are so many different types of Matcha. I tried their regular Matcha and it was very good. So happy Marta opened--it's exactly what the neighborhood needed. The coffee is solid, and they always have a nice variety of pastries to choose from. Marta is the latest addition of coffee shops that pepper the University Height and North Park area of San Diego, not that there's anything wrong with that. I do like seeing small businesses popping up in our San Diego Communities. Marta's is not only a coffee shop, but also a bakery, given they bake their pastries and baked goods. During my visit, I had the iced coffee and a house baked butter croissant. I was a huge fan of the butter croissant. It offered a great buttery flavor and texture. It was flaky and soft as a pillow in the right areas. The iced coffee was okay. It offered a good upfront coffee flavor but had a bitter after taste that I was not very fond of. The service was friendly at the counter. Unfortunately, they do not take cash, which is a bummer. They offer inside and outside seating. read more
Went in on a Saturday morning. It stayed consistently busy, but the wait was never more than a couple people. Like others mentioned, there are only paper menus laying on the counter. Maybe put one up on top of the pastry case? That way people can be prepared when they get up there. There aren't a ton of crazy options, so it doesn't take too long to review, but would still be nice to see it before getting to the front of the line. We got 2 pastries - a cinnamon roll and a cardamom twist. Both were fresh and delicious. I got a cortado, and I thought the espresso was a perfectly balanced blend. I can't say I was overly impressed with the service, but it is a cute place with good quality food and drinks. read more
Great bakery and coffee shop located off of Adams Ave. this place has a very modern and minimalist decor and the staff was very helpful. I ordered the blueberry lemon scone and it was delicious and freshly baked. In addition, I enjoyed the honey cinnamon latte and it was 5/5. This latte had a creamy texture and was well balanced with the honey and cinnamon. Definitely recommend this establishment and will be returning. read more

Marta is now home to what used to be Twiggs CoffeeHouse, and while not the same, is still bringing a different exciting experience. We got their Mexican Mocha, and Strawberry Matcha. Their Matcha exceeded my expectations-- earthy, creamy, the perfect amount of sweetness. The Mexican Mocha was rich & more on the dark chocolate bitterness. We got a Cardamom Concha as well-- insanely soft and sweet. read more
The passion fruit matcha was their seasonal drink that was immediately calling my name and it was such a unique flavor, I had to try it! The passion fruit compote was definitely on the tart side, but if you like tropical flavors I would recommend. I was able to snag a table and hang out and get some work done for a while and the ambiance of the cafe was very inviting. I love the green tile on the bar too. There was a good amount seating options and people were rotating in and out regularly for a weekday. My friend got the rosemary latte and the flavor was to die for, I would probably get that on my next visit. read more
The rosemary latte was delicious! I was so happy they had decaf espresso. It's rare to have a decaf latte that has a strong coffee flavor and I was so delighted that this one did. There's not a ton of seating inside, but if you can snag a table it's a great remote work spot. read more

I LOVE Marta! This has become one of my go-to spots in the neighborhood. I'm obsessed with the strawberry matcha latte. My friend got the strawberry matcha cooler and the cold brew which were both great. I love the poppyseed blueberry scone too. The staff is always so bubbly and welcoming. Plus they all have that cool barista aesthetic. It's very bright and clean inside as well with lots of tables. I love Marta :) read more
Great new addition to the area! We went on a Sunday morning and although there was a decent line, it moved pretty quickly. Pretty roomy inside with ample seating and also a dog-friendly patio. Super cute inside with their minimalistic decor. We were excited to try their in-house baked goods. Opted for the cardamom twist - actually quite moist and went great with my oat latte.
