Because I live nearby I decided to try take out from Kung Fu Kitchen. I ordered using the Door Dash interface which worked great. Food was ready early and so I went right in to get it. I ordered General Tso's Chicken, and Sweet Sour Pork with broccoli, and one box of rice. The woman giving it to me was sweet, and the first thing I noticed was that the package was HOT and HEAVY, both great signs. Got the food home quickly, still piping hot, and DELICIOUS. Oh mah goodness. I finally found a place that has lunch special that is under $10. All the Chinese Restaurant in Walnut Creek that I have dine and take out from are over $10 for their lunch special. The restaurant that I have gone to are good but I rather have a good lunch special for $10. When I heard about this restaurant from Yelp I thought the name was racist. The name Kung Fu Kitchen you expect to have Chinese food and learn karate but you only get food. Kung Fu Kitchen definitely get a five star review. The food that I had was amazing! I had Sesame Chicken with Fried Rice for lunch. The price for the lunch special is worth getting for under $10. The taste of my Sesame Chicken is great. A great size chicken was good! This place was actually my second choice, but I'm glad it worked out that way. I was staying in a local motel, and GrubHub screwed up my order from my first choice restaurant. I was getting darned hungry, so I just ordered from here because it was near the top of the list on the webpage. Boy, am I glad I did!!! The first thing I ordered was the pork buns. I looooove me a good pork bun. The buns themselves were OK, but just a tiny bit gummy. However, the pork filling was beyond delicious. I'm not sure what sauces they used, I assume hoisin, but it was So savory... As good as any I have had. Secondly, I had the beef in an iron plate. Basically, beef with veggies. The beef was so tender, and the veggies had just the right "bite" and "snap" to them. The sauce/gravy was not too thick, but not too thin, either, and again, I don't know what spices they use, but it was so delicious. From the time the driver picked up my food until the time it got to me, it was almost 45 minutes. It must have been a busy night for GrubHub. However, the restaurant packed the food extremely well, and it was still piping hot when it got to me. As often happens, they didn't pack any plastic silverware or napkins, but the driver had an extra set. I'm going to follow my partner's advice, and bring along my own plastic silverware and paper napkins when i travel, in case this happens again. Fantastic food! Thank you!!! read more

It's not easy finding good Chinese food out this way since the bar is pretty low. Being Chinese, I long for the good old days when you could go to Joy Luck or Silver Dragon for the real deal. So, in my pursuit of comfort food, I tried Kung Fu kitchen today while making a stop at Lunardi's. My benchmark dish is beef chow fun whenever trying somewhere new. Pleased to share that Kung Fu didn't disappoint. The flavor is legit with the essence of "wok hay". That is from the high heat on the wok. Noodles were tender, generous amount of tender beef and the usual been sprouts and onions. Once we come back and order more then I can reassess my rating. Caught them at a good time today. Ordered lunch specials for take out around 2pm. They were ready in 10 minutes! Large portions! Tbh I'd rather have smaller portions and save a few bucks, but it just wouldn't be cost effective for small restaurants that cook to order. I'll just have a whole 2nd lunch out of my leftovers. Ha. Heads up I had not ordered from them for several months. I used to order dinner take out, and they would take 40 min to one hour plus, despite saying it'd be ready in 30 min. I gave them the feedback to please be honest and give customers a realistic time estimate even if it frustrates customers. Imo I'd rather be able to run a quick errand or 2 instead of waiting like a sad puppy in front of the restaurant. I hope they've improved on that note. We've been to Kung Fu kitchen numerous times and the food is always great. My favorite's happened to be the crab horns, peking pork chops, and chicken chow mein. My partner prefers the beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, and the steamed pork buns. Even though prices are up pretty much everywhere, this is still a pretty good value when it comes to Chinese take out. read more

Tiny place, amazing food. There are only a few tables, it seems most of their business is take out. We have dined in a couple of times and were fairly comfortable but I wouldn't suggest dine in for a large party. There could be a bit of a wait during Friday Saturday dinner rush so order ahead. They are pretty efficient in getting you your food in my experience though. We keep coming back for the Basil Eggplant with Chicken and Prawns, which has become a favorite. I recently tried the Mongolian 3 combo, which is on the spicy side but not too incendiary. Just the right amount of spice. So tasty! Solid Chinese takeout spot with some of the best honey walnut prawns in the Bay Area (17 shrimp in one regular portion!). Generous portions and affordable prices are what make this place great. Some of the food could use a little bit more seasoning but that can be easily resolved with a sprinkle of salt or some soy sauce at home. The food was good and priced right until a few months ago. Ever since then, the portion size keeps getting smaller and their prices have been going up. It was disappointing. I ordered combo chow mein, general tso chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce. The eggplant was soft but too much celery and other vegetables. I did not taste garlic sauce. It's seemed the same flavoring was on all three dishes. The chow mein was undercooked and tasted floury. The general tso had too much breading. It was not crispy but was very doughy. Located across from Lunardi's a tiny little place. When my daughter and I arrived the same sweet last greeted us and again was so appreciative it made us happy to try them. We ordered broccoli beef, honey walnut prawns, salt n pepper ribs & potstickers. Overall food was solid. The honey walnut prawns were soggy, didn't have the crispness we are used to. The ribs were good flavor but lacked meat. Potstickers and broccoli beef were pretty good. Again, I would definitely come back to support and try some other things. When we get Chinese to-go we get it here. Food has been consistently good and the quality of the vegetables, shrimp and chicken is good. Our favorites are the orange chicken and spicy dry braised string beans. It's ready within a reasonable amount of time, portions are good and price is fair. WOW. This hole in the wall is a gem! I ordered takeout and went overboard as we had a larger group, and everyone had their "favorite" dish. We had the opportunity to sample several different things from each menu section. Although everything was excellent - the true standouts in our group were: Fried Wonton, a dish that used to be a staple in all Chinese restaurants but is a rare find now. These plump purses, bursting with minced meats and spices, are deep-fried to perfection and served with a delectable sweet and sour chili sauce. POT STICKERS!! I know. You are probably thinking, "Really??" Trust me. These are amazing. I am not a fan of potstickers because the dough is thick, gummy, and chewy. When I tried one, OMG, these are the real deal. The thin but substantial dough holds a delightful mix of veggies and minced meats, all seasoned to perfection. A light soy-wine sauce for dipping is served alongside. Toasted golden brown on the bottom, steamed to tender perfection. Salt and Pepper Calamari - not rings! Thick, succulent slices of calamari lightly battered and fried to a golden crisp, seasoned with mixed fresh hot peppers and black pepper with salt. YUMMY!! Butter-fried steak: Tender slices of beef sautéed perfectly, served with asparagus. There is really nothing more to say about this dish - it is simple, delicious, and deeply satisfying for any steak lover. I do not know how they do it, but the meat is seasoned perfectly. I was lunch time and I'd haven't tried Kung Fu Kitchen before. I was skeptical as I haven't found a ho to place yet for food like this. I ordered the Orange Chicken, Chow Fun and Shrimp Fried Rice. The orange chicken that I had today was full of flavors and super moist with a nice breading. This was a plus as many times in other establishments I had tough crispy flavorless orange chicken. The shrimp fried rice tasted fresh and the shrimp was in whole pieces and was moist and not spongy. I liked that it was whole pieces of shrimp instead of mini pieces that tend to be over cooked. The Chow Fun was also tasty but nothing really special. I will definitely be a return customer and I don't live locally. Due to COVID 19, we did take out for family dinner. Overall, it's still one of the better places for Chinese food in the CC county. They're consistent in their cooking, ingredients are fresh and flavorful. This time not all the dishes were A rated, but I'm amazed they were able to fill my order in such a short time. For pick up it was only 30 minutes for all these entrees. A CHICKEN LETTUCE WRAP. The lettuce was fresh and crisp and the chicken had good flavor. Interesting they had pine nuts in the chicken and I assumed they were lacking of all ingredients. A PEKING SPARERIBS. I have to say this was quite flavorful and tasty. I've only found one place in San Francisco at the Golden Horse restaurant on Hyde and California which makes it the BEST A++....and Kung Fu was close to the same flavors. this is great for me to get it here....... whenever I crave for some. C+ EGGPLANT AND GREEN BEANS. Portion size was small compared to their dishes, however, it was okay and didn't have quite the flavors as when I first tried their eggplant luncheon plate last year. Also the green beans no where compared to their spicy dry green bean entree. B BLACK BEAN FISH FILLET. It was tasty, but it did not leave me a good impression to order it again for take out. I've had it when I've dined in and it was way better. B XLB DUMPLINGS. It wasn't bad for take out in terms of texture and flavor, but I've decided that it's better to eat these at a restaurant. I don't think I order this as take out. Kung Fu is better then the Creek House Dim Sum's XLB located on Parkside and Main Street in WC (their XLB comes in a tin foil cup). A HONG KONG STYLE NOODLES COMBO. They do a great job of cooking their crispy noodles and it's served with chicken, beef, shrimp and and many veggies. This is a favorite at my house. My husband and I have been disappointed in our local Chinese restaurants lately and were so happy to try Kung Fu Kitchen. We ordered Chicken chow mein and thought it was very tasty, not greasy, & lots of noodles and chicken. We loved the sweet and sour pork, also, not greasy, large pieces of pork, & great sauce. Chicken with mixed veggies, also very tasty, plenty of chicken and delicious. Tried it again yesterday and had the chicken chow mein again because it was so good, also the Honey Walnut Prawns were very large, no tails on (which I really liked for ease of eating). It was only my husband and I that dined in tonight. There were a couple already eating when we arrived and it seemed that they were sharing a big plate of chow mein. My husband and I ordered the Hong Kong Style Fried Noodles, Greenbeans, Walnut Prawns and Salt and Pepper Chicken. The portion size was pretty good. The Hong Kong Style Fried Noodles was delicious, probably the best that I tasted. There were a lot of foot traffic for take out. We will be back again. This is such a belated review since we've gotten takeout from here multiple times, but I finally got around to this because everyone I've recommended Kung Fu Kitchen to has absolutely raved about it! When we had friends over, they literally could not stop eating because they thought it was so good. With Chinese takeout, your mileage may vary depending on what you order. Well I highly, highly recommend the egg fuyung dish (generous, fluffy, stuffed with veggies), the sweet and sour pork (that's how it's done!) and the salt and pepper fish. I'm sure there are tons of other yummy dishes but those 3 are so good, I can't help reordering every time which means I never get to try anything new :/ I always call in and order, and my order is usually ready in 15-20 minutes. read more
