I had heard that Kung Fu Tea was very popular in SoCal so I was excited to try it. The first time I came here, I enjoyed my drink. I ordered the mango green tea with boba. I liked the mango flavor and you could taste the green tea. The boba was chewy and I did not have to wait long for my drink. The second time I came here, I thought my drink was watered down and flavorless. My passion fruit green tea was ok but I could not really taste the passion fruit and the boba was bland. Overall Kung Fu Tea is average and their fruit drinks and their boba are inconsistent. There is seating inside and they have a restroom available. Maybe in the future, I need to try their milk teas or their non-dairy drink options because perhaps those are better than their fruity drinks. read more

Delicious little boba shop in the same plaza as a flower shop and lions market! I'm getting my oil change down the street and thought it was a cute place to do some work. I got the Kung fun honey tea. Super light with a crisp refreshing taste. No sugar just honey. I got 30% sweet with crystal boba. It's like a light guilty pleasure. Kung fu tea offers your typical milk tea, fruit tea, slush, milk shakes, and yogurt based options here. We found it interesting that they also offered espresso options for those who aren't a fan of tea or want an extra caffeine kick. I liked that they had a section on the menu to show you how to order so those who aren't familiar with ordering the drink could easily navigate their options. I decided to go with the classic kung fu milk tea because I wanted to see how they made it here. Apparently it's made with their "kung fu method" which really from what I observed meant they put it in a shaker machine to make sure everything is mixed through. Kool tiny strip spot next to Koja where I go once in a while for the huge salad you get with poke for $10 This place has gourmet hot tea options. I tried a liver cleansing strong green which was tasty , strong and felt great on a not so nice day outside! They have healthy fresh smoothies I didn't try yet but I did see a young boy slurping one down after it was made fresh. I've been to a few Kung Fu Tea's and this specific boba place has changed owners/names quite frequently. I am hoping Kung Fu Tea is here to stay. They have good consistent drinks that are not overly sweet. I really enjoy the jujube tea and green tea honey. Their menu is a bit different here, as they are written on chalk boards. I love that they have a (Step 1- Step 3), on how to order. The workers here are always so nice. They have size options and hot/cold options for your tea. I had dinner in the plaza and was curious about the boba place since I've never been there. My friends in Oregon like it so I thought it could be worth trying. I ordered a yogurt green tea with pudding, and my friend had a mango drink. My yogurt green tea had an artificial flavor to it. Usually I expect it to taste like the little Asian yogurt drinks but this didn't. Also I was quite unhappy when I was left with a ton of pudding in my cup like their ratio of topping to tea was totally off. Not only do the procedures in place make me feel safe, but also the service here is extraordinary. The employees are helpful and personable, and I always feel welcomed. I've been to Kung Fu Tea twice and heavily enjoyed the Jasmine Green Tea with the cream top. I also really enjoy the Lychee Punch. Over all, both drinks are outstanding, which is also not to mention the boba pearls themselves are at just the right sweetness and texture. The first time I had Kung Fu Tea, I was in Houston and had a terrible experience. While I was slightly skeptical coming to the one here in San Jose, the boba addict in me said I had to at least give it a try, so stopping by on a Wednesday night, I found a parlor that wasn't too busy, but beautifully decorated. The placement of the menu is a bit awkward in that you can't get a really good look unless you're right in front of the cashier, and if there is someone waiting behind you, you instantly feel the pressure to choose as quick as possible. In the end, I chose the wintermelon green milk tea in the medium size cup with light ice and 70% sweetness. My drink was ready almost immediately and the cup was a bit smaller than I expected, but it was only $3.75. I will say that there was a strong "tea" taste and a creamy undertone that was pleasant, but even at 70% sweetness, I felt it wasn't sweet enough. It certainly veered towards the bland side. Overall, my second experience with Kung Fu Tea was monumentally better than my first try. Service was efficient and the quality of the tea wasn't bad. While I wouldn't go out of my way for it, I wouldn't mind giving Kung Fu Tea another shot either. read more

Man I hate writing bad reviews for boba places, but here we go. Came here on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all, had a group of 2 in front of me. First problem I had - I wanted the wintermelon tea milk cap which on the menu says it's $3.95. When I went to order, I noticed that the girl had rang me up for wintermelon milk green tea ($3.70) + $1.00 for the milk cap which the overall total came out to be $.25 more. I asked another girl if it was the drink I had wanted to get and she said it was, so it sounded like the girl who rang me up didn't know the difference?? Idk if it was just me, but I find that to be confusing since the drink I wanted was rang up as 2 different things. Ok, whatever. Second problem - It took around 10 minutes from ordering to getting the drink on hand. I noticed that it didn't take long for them to make the drink, but then they just left it on the counter...? I thought it was a large mobile order that was placed so I didn't ask. I just stood there while my drink was sitting on the counter along with the group of 2 that was in front of me. There wasn't a long line at the register so I don't understand why the girl just had my drink sitting there for a good 3-4 minutes before finally calling my number. The drink itself is decent. They put a good amount of pearls in the drink which I appreciate. But overall, the terrible service left a really bad taste in my mouth. I would not go out of my way to come back again. I think the South Bay Boba Takeover is officially complete. Is there a strip mall in the area that doesn't have a bubble tea shop? Now when one closes another pops up in its place. Kung Fu Tea now occupies the former home of Tapioca Express in the plaza at the corner of Saratoga and Kiely in West San Jose. Moving in to replace a former tea shop, Kung Fu Tea brought in their fresh coat of paint, signage and menu, but the floor plan is essentially the same. Unlike their predecessor, Kung Fu Tea does not serve food, just drinks. The anchor tenant in this particular shopping center is a really popular Lion Supermarket so parking can be difficult during peak grocery shopping times like Saturdays and Sundays. At first glance the Kung Fu Tea menu seems to have a lot going for it. All the usual categories are well represented: teas, fruit drinks, milk teas, slushes, cream drinks, even yogurt and chai options. I'm an equal opportunity drinker so I'll have to try them all. Toppings are the usual suspects. Pudding is available. For jelly lovers I saw a decent variety to choose from, at least four different ones I counted but forget by name, but no grass jelly. They have red bean which is my favorite topping in hot milk teas, so that's a plus. In addition to regular pearls they have a few flavors of popping boba to choose from. Not my thing, but you go right ahead. Drink sizes are medium and large for cold ones and one size for hot drinks. Their one size hot drink cup looks larger than most places. Their medium cup looks smaller than most places. Their large cold cup looks typical. I didn't measure, that's just me eyeballin' it. Their menu says their milk tea drinks use lactose-free non-dairy milk powder. This threw me for a minute, but I'm not a milk tea expert. Somebody who seems to know more later informed me that this is how some other places do it too and if you don't like that you can often specify regular milk, soy, almond or squirrel. Just kidding, I made that last one up. I'm not totally sure what milk and milk-like options are available at Kung Fu Tea so check for yourself. I wanted something sweet and fruity so my first visit I ordered a medium Sunshine Pineapple Tea, medium ice, 30% sweet (this is their lowest sweetened setting), with pearls. They were not busy but the drink took several minutes. No big, boba takes time. I stabbed the top with my big boba straw and gave it a try. First sip was hot, my bad, I forgot to give the drink a little shake and swirl before stabbing in. The hot tea was at the bottom of my cold drink. Overall I liked the flavor of the drink. The pineapple chunks were small and very pulpy, a little stiff to chew, but still tasty. Their 30% sweet is less sweet than some other places I go, so for those of you who don't like sweet drinks this could be a good option. Overall I liked the drink. I will try something else next time, just because I'm new to the place and it will take some experimentation to find what's good. New boba spot in an area I frequent so I'm sure I'll be back. When I noticed a KFT has opened not only in the Bay but in the South Bay I was thrilled! Kung Fu Tea has left a unforgettable imprint on me after frequenting it about half a dozen times throughout my visits to SoCal throughout the years. Sadly, this location doesn't hit the high mark that it's SoCal counterparts put up. The drinks are pretty inconsistent. My boyfriend got a rosehip milk tea after a staff member assured us that it was just rose milk tea under a fancy name. In actuality it didn't taste like rose at all, more like bitter herby tea. The wintermelon and jasmine milk tea are my usual go-tos but I found them to be pretty average and maybe a little lacking at this location. I can't tell if it's because it's relatively new or something is different. While they are okay and do the job, they don't deliver that mouth watering punch that I know they're capable of. :( Service is just okay. I don't really feel like the staff are particularly friendly and aren't really attentive from what I've experienced. Drinks come out kinda slow as well. I'll keep on coming back from time to time when I'm near the plaza (There's a Poke place next door that's delicious and affordable and Mitsuwa is nearby if you want to hangout with your friends). Review #361 - 2018 I was super excited to find out that they'd finally opened a Kung Fu Tea in NorCal. After our evening of fun at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Del Monte Shopping Center in Monterey, we decided to stop by and grab a few drinks before heading back home. We showed up around 9:30 PM on Saturday, November 17th, and the place was pretty packed. We had a hard time placing our orders because the girl who was helping us couldn't really speak or understand English. I know that these types of places don't require a whole lot of knowledge, but not being able to answer a few simple questions is simply unacceptable. Even the owner was pretty clueless! Our drinks were just ok compared to all the other locations I've been to and I've been to both locations in Las Vegas, LA and Virginia. This is one of my favorite tea places whenever I visit New York. I've been waiting for it to come to the South Bay. We're really fortunate in the South Bay to have so many good options for Milk Tea....seems like a new place us springing up every few weeks. I've been to this place on the East Coast probably a dozen of times and always ordered the same drink (switching back and forth between boba or herbal jelly) because of the consistency. Since this location is nearby I will venture and try other items on the menu. I get: Kung Fu Milk Tea 50% sweet, less ice, with herbal jelly. I personally really like the creamier (as opposed to more tea taste) slightly frothy milk teas. I do not like the block / cube like and firm herbal jelly, which this place does not have. The herbal jelly was soft. I also tried the red wow- basically red bean, boba, milk. It was pretty good and the drink looked like art work. When I picked up the drink, the bottom was warm. It was the last day of their buy 1 get 1 free promotion so the line was out the door. The line for ordering blocked is in the way of people picking up their drinks so that will hopefully get sorted out. They accept credit cards. After lunch my friend and I headed to Tapioca Express, only to find Kung Fu Tea. The check in on Yelp is misleading saying you can get a free drink if you download the app. After doing so, we found that you had to get X amount of points to get the free drink, and had to frontload your app with a minimum of $25. One of their best drinks, Black Sugar Milk Tea wasn't on the menu. I get up to the counter and the awkward cashier takes my order without informing me of the promo and also didn't inform me that they're out of black tea! He offered green tea but WOULDN'T HONOR THE PROMOTION! That's extremely unfair. I didn't want to argue so I just let it go because their boba is really good. I ordered 3 green milk tea (which was supposed to be black for the promo) with boba and 1 yogurt orange with boba. They call my number and tell me they ran out of boba!! Really?! What the heck?! At this point, I'm even more pissed off. And here are my issues: 1) You're opening a boba shop in the Bay Area, you BETTER BE PREPARED FOR IT. 2) If you really want a SUCCESSFUL grand opening, then ALL your drinks should be a part of the promo. 3) If you're only going to include black tea for your promo, YOU BETTER HAVE ENOUGH BLACK TEA TO LAST. 4) If you run out of your promotional drink, YOU SHOULD HONOR OTHER DRINKS FOR THE PROMO. It's not the best tea spot I've been to but it's not the worst either. When I'm really craving tea and in the area I do still stop in. Know that they tend to make their drinks super sweet so when I order I always go with zero sugar. But if you like sweet this is the place for you. My boyfriend got the Oolong Milk Tea, and really enjoyed it as well. Not my thing, but as quoted by him, "the more roasted, the better." It was not lacking in the roasted department. NGL I only came to Kung Fu Tea because I got the free drink for downloading their app on National Boba Day. Drink: 4 stars. I got the Kung Fu milk tea which had a different flavor than regular milk tea, but I liked it. The boba had a really good texture but was really sweet (it was drenched in honey) and if I had known I probably would've gotten a lot less sugar in my drink. Service: 4.5 stars. There was a bit of a line but it moved pretty quickly. When I got to the front I told the cashier that I had the free drink and he told me that I had to add a payment method first otherwise it wouldn't go through. First impressions: Nice decor, clean, variety of flavors. I purchased the Cocoa Cream Wow with Milk Top for $5.68 including tax. The boba was chewy, sweet, & warm meaning it was freshly cooked. However the boba was so hot it made the entire drink warm and melted all the ice. Overall, the flavor was good but I would definitely recommend getting 50% sweetness. Kung Fu Tea replaced the TapEx in the Lion plaza (which had been there for years!). I've enjoyed my drinks at the San Diego KFT, so I was excited to hear that they were opening up a location in the Bay Area. Currently, they're having a BOGO on select drinks until 10/28. I came in during their grand opening weekend, and the line was at the door at 2pm. From standing in line to receiving my drinks, it took about 30 minutes. The ordering process is still on the slow side, which is expected since they recently opened (most people were also ordering 4 drinks, so this added to the wait time). I do appreciate that they have a tablet facing you to see your order as they're taking it, so you can check that the customizations for each drink (size, sweetness, ice level, toppings) are all correct! DRINKS (prices for a large with boba): KF Milk Tea ($4.70): This was a pretty good black milk tea, but I would recommend 50-70% sweetness. They give a generous amount of boba that is both sweet and chewy. Oreo Wow ($5.20): This was one of the options for the BOGO, and I ordered this for my cousin expecting it to taste like oreo. It's basically milk (with Lactaid) with no hint of oreo in the drink or boba at all. Woudn't recommend since it was very bland overall. Passion Fruit Green Tea ($5.20): I didn't get the chance to try it, but my brother said it was pretty good! The interior is really nice with lots of tables. I actually chose Kung Fu Tea because it was one of the only places I could find that would allow me to adjust the sweetness for Thai Tea :). I had the Taro Milk Tea, 0% sugar + pudding, and it actually tasted like tea! Most places just use taro powder (not gonna lie, I like that too hah) but this was a very pleasant surprise, and the mild sweetness of the egg pudding balanced it really well. I got a honey milk tea with pearls. Drink was good, but pearls.. Many were soft and chewy, but I did have a few in my drink in which they were crunchy and RAW. My friends experienced the same in their drinks. For a boba place, pearls are just as important as the tea!! It was definitely not done. It was actually pretty annoying that I walked up and was acknowledged but never asked what they could help me with and then the person that cut in front of me was helped before I was. Another person tried to walk ahead of me again so I finally just shoved my way around him and asked about my order. There definitely needs to be a line or something in order to avoid this situation because it was a free for all. The boba is made from brown sugar so the sweetness kind of threw me off a bit since I try to minimize the amount of sugar in my milk tea. It's hard to gauge in my opinion how sweet it'll be because my drink was still pretty sweet even after the 25% sweet customization. Kung Fu Tea - STRAWBERRY LEMON GREEN TEA - Bubble Tea Near Me - San Jose, California

I ordered here previously and my thoughts about this boba place remains the same. Their boba is pretty good compared to MANY other boba spots. However, the issue I have with them is their tea. I tried the Rosehip Tea the first time I order. I expected it to be floral, but it had a very strange pungent flavor to the tea. I imagine this is what chewing on potpourri would taste like. However, today, I decided to go with Taro Milk Tea. How could it go wrong? I received a drink that was not even purple in color. It was on the dark brown side. I don't taste any taro flavor. Once again, I get floral notes, but this time, I also get some spicy notes. I'm not sure if it's the type of tea they are using that's bringing those flavors out? If I have to order here again, I'll stay away from the teas and try something else. I want to be able to like this place as their bubbles are quite delicious. I can't fully recommend this place. Why is there stuff in my herbal jelly....?? I'm a little confused and it tastes weird since it's gritty and grainy. I think I even found a chia seed too... but there were other things that seemed inedible. o_____o Got the KF oolong milk tea and it pretty much only tasted like milk powder - there was no tea flavor. I've had Kung Fu Tea in SoCal and NYC, but this location appears to be lacking. BUMMER. read more

Best boba you'll have in the Bay Area. Good tea but slow service. Took 13 minutes for a medium strawberry lemonade with mango popping boba (pic along with post) since the workers don't know how to work efficiently on customer drinks. The strawberry bits taste like dried strawberries thrown into the drink, not sure if that's how it's made or so. We also got a black milk tea with regular boba (not pictured as we drank it all before ordering another drink). It came out fast with us being the first there or so. The boba has nice flavor to it, but is chewy. It's a small location in a shopping center. I have the feeling it'll be crowded and the service will continue to be slow for the first few weeks, as the workers seem to still be in training. Either way, welcome to the Bay Area KFT!
