One of my go to sushi spots because of their simplicity and quality taste. Located in a shopping plaza with lots of parking. There's underground spots as well. The space inside is not that big so I would recommend reservations, especially Friday nights and weekends. You can order take out as well. The menu isn't overly big, which is nice. They also have some unique rolls I hadn't seen anywhere else like the lemon roll which I would recommend. My other favorites were the blue crab roll and halibut hamachi. The taste is the fish is fresh and melts in your mouth and they don't overpower items with extra sauces. Will be back for sure!

Busy as usual. Reservation always helps. The staff are friendly and attentive. The food is on point like before. We ordered the seas bass green roll - amazing as always. The chicken livers, pork belly, shishito peppers Kushiyaki were done to perfection. The salmon skin roll was crunchy and flavorful. A definite gem in Tarzana. A very casual place great for casual dinners or group.

We found this place out of pure luck Taka was amazing! Sushi was top of the line, no wonder it was busy. They have this grill in the middle of the bar called kushiyaki bbq they cook everything fish, lobster, shrimp you name it they have it. Take my word for it the best sushi you will have. Such a chill and great vibe. Taka we are coming back for omakase and you're amazing spring roll.

It's good, but I am not blown away. The service is great, the dim lighting is nice, the fish quality is good. I am just not entirely impressed by the flavors, some dishes felt a little bland and fell flat for me. I would still come here again, but it would not be my go to sushi spot. I did enjoy the albacore sashimi and was pleasantly surprised that I even enjoyed the onions on top.

Came here for a business lunch with a client, his choice, my first time, but definitely not my last. I have to say is one of my favorite new Sushi spots. So glad we came here. Inside is very open and modern, white marble and white walls, sushi bar in the middle is the star. The sushi chefs are excellent. Apparently this location burned down once and they have a nice tribute to its rebirth above the sushi bar. As I sad the chefs were amazing as well as the servers and the greeter, top notch all the way. Unfortunately I did not get many pics f the food as it would have been odd for me with this client, but take my word and view the 1000+ pictures. This sushi is fresh, so much flavor, no heavy ingredients just perfect in every way, quality and pride is what you will get here. We got so many dishes I cannot remember them all, highlights were the Unagi, cooked perfectly, crisp but tender, just a small bit of rice on bottom. Next the Asian roll, you must get this, probably my favorite, an explosion of flavor. Spicy tuna roll, the rice was perfect, not hard or too soft, loved it. Also got a baked scallop roll (spicy) and an albacore special. Maybe a few others, then we ended with the crème brûlée on a wedge of fruit, perfect presentation. This is an excellent sushi spot, going on my recommendation list, but you will spend a good amount of money as everything is so good, you will not want to stop. 3 of us for lunch with tip $350. Enjoy!

The most delicious: (but feels over priced) 1. Chilean Sea Bass $19.50 2. complimentary sweet orange dessert 3. sea urchin (uni) 4. ENGAWA CAVIAR (Halibut Fin/ S. Korea) $24 Notable: Service was attentive and friendly and helpful! And the newly remodeled space always feels spacious and clean and new. Great vibes. Disappointing: 1. Other than the uni and tuna crispy rice, the rest of the 10 piece nigiri special tasted average, like something from an express sushi stop or a step above the best grocery sushi offers. 2. I couldn't believe we were served Freshwater eel that was burnt! I regularly order eel every time I go get sushi and this was a first for me. 3. the Miso Beef was tough. I expected better, I've had better version of their nigiri and tonight wasn't their night.

Top notch sushi with top notch prices. I was in the Tarzana and thought I would check out Kushiyu for lunch. I ordered a few dishes and everything tasted lovely... though I was aware of the prices. For a real sushi treat in the area and special occasions, I would recommend Kushiyu!

Excellent / Superior sushi AND kushiyaki (see below) consistly great quality across all food genres. Been going here for 17-ish years and have never had a bad meal. Yes, it's not the cheapest: I can see where some ppl might feel like the prices might be somewhat aggressive but where else can you get the breadth of options with the consistently very high level of quality of all dishes - ie, everyone can be very happy with the meal even if they don't eat sashimi. Perfect place to go with a group that wants a broader Japanese experience. And, to be clear, the sushi there is amazing - I've never had a bad piece of sushi / sashimi ( even the mackerel isn't fishy). Can't understand why anyone cant appreciate how awesome this place offers. A+

I'll be back! Very friendly staff. They have a lot of sushi chefs behind the diner and actually seemed very fully staffed in general. A saw management walk around the restaurant several times checking on things. The restaurant itself is beautiful, I think the tables were slabs of marble? Each table gets a small lamp, romantic. They have outdoor seating with heat lamps. The parking lot is small with multiple businesses, I saw there's underground parking but I didn't opt for that because I found a spot at ground level. The food is delicious and has a nice presentation.

This was my first time revisiting Kushiyu after their remodel. I loved it before and now as well but the ambiance has changed. The menu is excellent but it's a bit more upscale now in decor, pricing and menu. Excellent service in every aspect. My cod was very good. Ambiance is lovely.

    Ask the Community - Kushiyu

    Do they offer delivery?

As of two months ago, no. In fact, they weren't even taking to-go orders. If you call, they would let you know.

    Do they offer Omakase here?

Is this place closed permanently or did they relocate during massive construction?

They're reopening and I think are open for catering services in the meantime. They have a big banner on the construction saying Kushiyu Coming Back Soon.

I LOVE SUSHI...and it really doesn't matter if it's Ralphs, Nobu, or Kura Revolving Sushi...HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!! and I mean this, HOWEVER!!!!!!!! Miho is well priced, pinnacle quality and exceptional service!!!! It's a small hole in the wall off of Ventura Blvd in Tarzana and although we were hesitant at first, we decided to give it a shot. How could a sushi join in a largely jewish strip mall be any good...well, because they're some of the nicely, most talented Chefs, that how! The presentation of the rolls, the nigiri and the sashimi is gorgeous and if you sit at the bar the speed the sushi comes out makes you feel like you're the only person in the restaurant (who wouldn't like that?). We had to wait about 15min to get in, there's typically a wait but it's a wait well worth it and honestly it's more exciting this way. At first glance, it's pretty small in there, but I never felt uncomfortable. They were playing some cool lo-fi beats that weren't too loud -- no one was screaming at each other over the music. The guy taking my order was super cool and attentive; he kept checking in and was on top of the beer situation. I'd read other reviews saying the service was terrible, but in my honest opinion, he was great. I also read that people weren't happy with the owner. I could see how he might rub people the wrong way, but he mostly just kept to himself -- we only spoke when he picked up my plates. Some things I ordered really stood out, while others were just mid -- not bad, but they didn't have that wow factor. Standouts: the salmon belly (highly recommend), the beef wagyu, the gyoza (I know, it's gyoza, hard to mess up, but I've had bad gyoza before), the amberjack (best I've had), and the yellowtail carpaccio, which was bomb. The only thing that I didn't really like was the soy sauce ramekin, it was difficult to dip my sushi in it. It's too small and square. All in all, I'd recommend this place to a friend if they're in the area, and I'll be coming back.
