Beware they do not honor their agreement. Unfortunately I had water damage, did not ask for this water damage and did no seek this company's service, however my insurance company recommended them. Although the workers were pleasant and professional the administrative/billing staff weren't so kind! Extremally rude to be more specific. I explained to these people that I was going through a financial hardship due to a huge loss in my income before the project got started and asked if I could make payments. The project manager said he would check if it would be ok and later told me yes. I told them the amount I could afford per month which was also given the ok. After making my first payment followed by a large payment three times more than the agreed payment, then a third payment, the next thing I know I get a fourth invoice, nine times more than the amount agreed on (the total balance). I politely called the company and asked what was going on and I explained again my financial hardship and our original agreement. They had no concern nor sympathy for my situation, and did not care to hear what I had to say. At this point they threatened to place a lien on my home if I did not pay the total balance. Staff in their billing department were extremely rude and came across very demanding and threatening! Five Star I know you will read this do not bother reaching out to me! I had enough dealing with rude people and you know who you have working for you so it shouldn't be a surprise. I had to put myself in a worse financial situation behind this, and had I known they would not honor our agreement I would have found business elsewhere. Lesson learned I did not get this agreement in writing it was a verbal agreement, however, despite all of this my bill is paid in full thanks to some kind people but you all at Five Star should be ashamed of yourselves saying one thing doing another and then threatening me with a lien! The entire second and first level of my home was flooded due to a busted second floor bathroom supply line. This happened sometime in mid-2018. I contacted Five Star Restoration as they have a reputation for doing good work and have funding for large projects. Final cost for my home repair project was 70K. Their estimator, Jeremy came out to do an inspection and estimate. Jeremy knows a lot as he was able to answer my questions regarding the repair of my home. I then went to Five Star's office discussed the repair with Jeremy and owner Aaron and signed the contract to repair my home. Nathan was the project manager who addressed my concerns, had a good crew and subcontractors who performed outstanding work. I had to stay in an apartment while Five Star worked on my house, and everytime I visited to see the progress of the work, the house was clean with no rubbish lying around - very important to me. Five Star installed engineered wood floor in the entire first level, second level and stairs in my home - they did a good job as they are flat, no bumps, looks good. See attached photos with appropriate captions. I don't usually say a lot in my reviews, but I felt Five Star did outstanding work. May I add that I am a construction manager myself so Five Star wouldn't have gotten away with mediocre work anyway. Kudos to Nathan, Jeremy, Aaron and to all the staff who worked in my home. Beware of Five Star! After our house in Davis experienced water damage, State Farm informed us that we needed to work with Five Star on the remediation. Five Star came out and was supposed to propose a quote as a third party, but instead, the Company teamed up with State Farm to claim that the damage was a result of a slow leak (even though we have footage showing a fast-pressured pipe leak within the walls). Five Star advised State Farm that our water heater was the source of the leak, which ended up being incorrect. When we brought another remediation company to the site, they quickly discovered a broken pipe in the walls. As a result of Five Star's incorrect opinion as to the source of the leak, State Farm denied coverage for the damage. Then, Five Star proceeded to send an invoice for the time they spent preparing a quote we never received, even though they never disclosed their hourly rate. Their invoice included the "time" they drove to and from our place. What business charges a prospective customer for "inspecting" a home to prepare a quote, which again was never provided? While they claim that the charge was for coming to, and the time spent at, our place, no services were ever tendered. The "services" tendered consisted at most of taking a few pictures, including pictures of a non-leaking water heater, which were provided to State Farm (not us) and not used toward any actual services, and obviously, the time they spent informing the State Farm agent that they thought the damage was caused by a slow leak. If Five Star was going to ultimately invoice us instead of State Farm, they should have treated us like the customers and not State Farm. They should have been responsive to our emails, including the follow up emails we sent for the quote and for information. They should have also been upfront about their hourly rate and charges, as any good business would have done, INCLUDING INFORMING US THAT THEY WILL CHARGE US FOR TIME SPENT "INSPECTING" A HOUSE TO PREPARE A QUOTE (REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY ACTUALLY PROVIDE YOU WITH A TIMELY QUOTE OR NOT). AND, AGAIN, WHAT BUSINESS CHARGES $$ TO MERELY PROVIDE A QUOTE?? And, at the very least, they should have provided the photos they took at our place that they charged us for, to us and not the State Farm. (At first, Five Star refused to provide us with the pictures, even though they demanded payment from us for their time, and only provided the photos after we complained about their invoice.) Again, what company treats their customers like that. Clearly, their true customer was and remains State Farm. Five Star should not have opined that the damage was caused by a slow leak. That was not what they were brought on site to do, and that they informed State Farm of such an opinion merely demonstrates that they worked for State Farm and not us.They just want to have us pay for the invoice. Please please be wary of this company, especially if your insurer asks you to work with them. In my opinion, they are merely extensions of the insurance company and will work with the insurance company to arm the insurer with what "information" the insurer needs to deny coverage. Beware!!! (P.S., it appears that the owner Aaron has a practice of responding to postings to discredit the yelp reviewer. Aaron, your payment, though clearly not deserved, is in the mail. Please run your business better. If the homeowner is your customer, and not the insurer, run your business accordingly.) read more

A home we wanted to purchase had numerous areas of water damage and ongoing leaks, so we decided it was important to have the home tested for mold. Once those results came back (extremely high levels of 2 types of black mold) our realtor highly recommended Five Star Restoration for remediation services! Due to such high levels of mold in air and surface tests, they did have to clean the affected areas twice, then we were able to pass mold retesting. Five Star was excellent in communicating throughout the process and we were very happy with their service and determination to help us get our home to a very healthy level! 5 Star Restoration was hired by my insurance company to assess the damage caused by a shower drain leak. They came out and they were very friendly. They seemed to know what they were talking about. The tech let me know they've been in business for 30 years, have a showroom, blah, blah, blah. So the next call we get from them was them telling us that our insurance claim had been approved and that they emailed me the contract to sign and send back. Since I was at work I told them I would take a look at it and get it back to them. About 10 mins later, I get a call from my insurance company saying the claim had been denied. So when I got home from work I called 5 Star and again they said the claim had been approved. They had gotten an email fromy insurance company with the approval and all I needed to do was sign the contract and we'd get going. I asked them to send me a copy of the email from my insurance company stating that we'd been approved because I was told it had been denied. They said they couldn't that. So we ended the call. They proceeded to call 3 more times attempting to get us to sign a contract. Just be careful and don't take these people at their word. They aren't honest. I would like to start out by saying this place has some nice employees. But I can't base my review on nice people. Initially we felt we were in good hands. They came out and remediated the mold (by this I mean hung plastic from our high ceilings with tape and staples, ripped out our flooring, sheetrock, cabinets etc.) and dried out the floors, for which they were paid over 6k. It took a while to get the noisy fans out but we dealt with it. Next step was to get an estimate to replace or fix what they messed up; tore up or out. At no point during the estimate process was it mentioned that they would only do the work if we gave them the entire job. Meaning flooring and all. Our insurance agent told us we could go with our own contractors. But we thought nah we will give the job to them but wanted to get a separate quote on replacing the laminate by a floor company. Five star does it all but we just felt that a floors only company would be better for the laminate portion of the job. The Five Star estimator knew we were considering this and never said it's all or nothing. He called a week ago and scheduled to have the crew supervisor come out to rewrite the scope of work to be done minus the laminate flooring. This also included floor tiling in the kitchen for which they quoted to redo the entire kitchen but it wasn't necessary. Long story made short, today the day before the appointment, the initial estimator calls me and starts giving me this bs about all or nothing. I asked why wasn't this disclosed sooner and he had no reason except "well when we bid a job we bid it based on getting the entire job." I can appreciate this but WHY didn't he say something sooner so we could make a decision based on this knowledge???!!! Meanwhile as he is on the phone to me ... someone from their company is calling my husband and asking him to give them a rating. My husband not knowing what is being said to me is giving them a reasonable rating. That's convenient. So we are left with this mess ... tape and staples all over the place from them ... on the ceilings where we can't get to it; made a mess of our walls with dirty hands so the painting portion of the job was increased. Is it me?? Who does this?? How can you run a business this way? Is communicating too much to expect? Is it just not there for some people?? I'm adding to this because hindsight is 20/20. As other contractors come in to bid for the repairs and see what was done from the remediation they have commented on the mess and unnecessary damage that was left behind which only reaffirms what I said above. For example. They removed a hand rail to place a scaffold to tape up plastic. It was left on the floor. So instead of putting it back they added it into the repair estimate along with the extra paint they would need to do from their unnecessary negligence. I contacted their project manager and she was going to look into the all or nothing issue and call me back. That was 2 weeks plus ago. Not one word. Moving on I am getting our walls put up today. I'm so thankful for those contractors that are truly responsible and step up to the plate. Honestly is a value that too many seem to discount. read more

Unfortunately our tile roof leaked in February 2020 causing a bedroom ceiling to collapse and we had a huge water mess. I called our insurance company and they contacted Five Star who came the next day, and moved everything out and placed a dehumidifier which ran for a week. Once it was dry they repaired the ceiling, painted and replaced lose insulation in the attic. They were prompt, clean, and kept us informed every step of the way. I highly recommend them. read more

Our only complaint, and it seems to be more that FIVE STAR is a victim of their own success, was how long we had to wait to get construction started. They were booked solid and it took several weeks. We had a fire and the insurance company set everything up as far as vendors for the repairs and with the restoration company. While 5 Star did a good job overall, they were over an hour late to the first appointment. Then they cleaned the carpets at that time with no communication that it was being done so no furniture was moved and they worked around it, and it shows. It also didn't make sense to do it before the other contractors were in and out with their repairs, in turn tracking in soot and dirt from the fire, so the carpets may as well have just not been cleaned. They didn't clear away all of the burnt stuff from the fire and it seemed they got in and out and got paid from the insurance company and were on their way. read more

I should have written this a year ago... My house flooded, thanks to a broken refrigerator, and ruined the laminate flooring I installed through out the entire house. I quickly called my home insurance company and they assured me that it was covered. They also sent out a water mitigation team and an estimator that day. Five Star happened to be the water mitigation team. They responded promptly, listened to our needs and concerns, and got us headed in the right direction. The estimator also came from Five Star but he assured me that I could go with whatever repair company I wanted. Five Star did so well with the water mitigation part of the job, I asked USAA if they were an approved contractor and was informed that they are. That made my decision easy... I informed USAA that I wanted Five Star to do the repairs. I have two kids and a dog, so I needed the repairs to happen quickly. Five Star got to work a few days after they finished drying out the walls and cabinets. More importantly, they finished within a couple of weeks. That's demo of 1100 sqft of floor, a whole lot of drying, installing 1100 sqft of tile (water proof upgrade), replacing all of my baseboards, painting to match, fixing my cabinets, and moving all of my furniture back in. And the workmanship is amazing!!! However, they did lose a single star. Five Star subcontracted some work (to get the job done faster). I had more than one negative interaction with the subcontractor. Five Star did resolve the problem, but I still found it frustrating. I would recommend Five Star any day!!! read more

We hired Five Star to re-mediate some water damage and deal with some asbestos in an older home we recently purchased. They were immediate in our response for a bid. As we needed to get moved in as quickly as possible, they worked diligently to get a team to us. We were not overjoyed with the time it took to get the remediation ultimately completed or with the owner of the sub they hired (he was rude, demeaning, and someone I would never work with again despite how nice his two workers were). I have given Five Star and project manager Karen the five stars because of the work they did to remedy the situation. The company ultimately worked with the subcontractor to not only make sure everything was done completely and to their satisfaction, but they also recognized the compromises we had to make as owners and made concessions for this. I wavered between 4 and 5 stars on this review, and landed on 5 because true customer service involves making things right for the customer and doing everything you can to resolve a situation. Five Star delivered in this regard. We absolutely loved working with Karen and she gave us some great ideas and contacts to help with our install. read more

I asked for this company as years ago I used them for a similar job. I regret now that I did. Water damage back in February. It's now September the 5th ..no sink no counter tops no stove. No moulding replaced. 7 months and not completed. Today people were suppose show up to install the moulding so movers could bring our things back into the house no one arrived. We can't cook food nothing..my house is filthy from 7 months in a hotel no one to clean it. I am recently widowed almost 70 both my other family members here are disabled and I have a serious illness I am having to deal with. Nobody seems to care. Insurance forced us to move back with nothing usualble except a bathroom .. They use to be great I guess like everything else nothing last forever read more

Aaron with Five Star Restoration came out and cleaned our carpets, and we couldn't be more pleased. We had some bad stains on the carpet that had been there since we moved in two years ago, and I was skeptical that anyone could get them out. Well, there isn't a trace of the old stains at all! Aaron was quick and efficient, doing our home in about an hour and a half (our home is 2,176 square feet). He brought in some big fans to dry out the carpets quickly. I saw the truck for this company the other day while driving. I saw excellent Google reviews, so I decided to call them. I was told there is a $250 estimation fee, which would then be credited towards the job if they were chosen. So, basically, they are making money whether or not they do a job. Forget it. Took 4 months for 3 month job (we were displaced the entire time) supposedly due to an unhappy project manager who left the company. At the beginning of this experience we were told of weekly progress meetings at Five Star offices; when questioned how we fell through the cracks Brenda claimed ignorance and blamed former employee. One can only surmise the weekly progress meetings are fabricated, not well attended or ownership takes no responsibility for what is actually happening on the job site. The positive sides are as follows: excellent initial impression. Showed up quickly and stopped further water damage from 2nd floor broken pipe. After the abrupt departure of first project manager, our job was taken over by the fantastic team of Sean and Adam. Adam and Sean took over and made things happen. The rest of the story is the owners Aaron and Brenda didn't take responsibility for their mismanagement, but took advantage of our insurance company not asking questions. Upon completion the construction was done well. The unpack (an extra fee paid for by insurance) was terrible with garage items in bathrooms, bathroom items in office, bedroom items in garage, etc. One small item was placed in a personal storage bin Five Star should not have opened. Extra pool sweep and hose were in drawer in office closet. The list goes on and on. The absolute unforgivable offence? Theft. Yes, theft. Multiple small items have been stolen from our home from boutique soaps to custom painted matchbox cars, cans full of loose change, money hidden in an envelope in a dresser drawer and finally narcotics hidden in a closet. We have filed a police report. It should be noted that we spoke to Brenda and staff about what was happening and received nothing but a insincere "sorry" and zero action. Aaron did not return calls. The office was quick to call, however, when they wanted us to cosign checks for payment. A complaint to our insurance company is forthcoming. Supplement to Aaron's reply. Aaron: our neighbors were not in our home, not in our closets nor in our drawers. Again you are avoiding responsibility. My husband and I each called your cell phone and left messages, specifically when we were pressuring you to finish our home and complaining about the endless costs charged to USAA. You not only ignored our calls but you asked USAA for a hotel extension and attempted to blame us when your business neglected to order materials, extending the time we were displaced. Possibly this message will remind you of the fact you conceded this lack of service. read more

We used 5 star for our damage clean up which was excellent service! We chose not to use them for the repair portion because their bid was way over priced! The problem was they received our insurance quote before they gave us a quote. They knew what amount they had to work with and bid from there.....I received 2 other bids after that and they where 2000-3000k lower than 5 star. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!! The person who gave us the bid was Aaron with Five Star Restoration. We agreed to have his company clean our house after we had a fire. If the job was done to our satisfaction, we planned to have them do the repairs. Anyway, the clean-up job was left a mess so we eventually hired another company to finish the work. Later, Aaron insisted that we owed more money after we received and paid the final bill. We are so happy that we had our house completed by the other company because they did a great job and charged thousands less than what Five Star quoted. read more

Could not be happier. I had water damage to my condo due to a broken water heater. David, the estimator showed up and was more concerned aboutgetting the job done ASAP than I was. He was at my house within an hour andwas calling people over right away. Normally, you would have to have someone come out, take a look, go back to the office, write an estimate, submitt it to the insurance, wait for approval, draft a contract and then start work after you sign. NOT THESE GUYS! They stuck their neck out for me and started work on a hand shake. No money, no contract just good old fashioned trust and great customer service. I am extremely impressed by the work of 5- Star Restoration. We developed a leak in our roof in February 2016 during the middle of the rainy season. The leak damaged our ceiling, walls, and hardwood floor in our family room. From the very beginning of mitigation till the end of repair, the efficiency and quality of work by this company set the bar at the very highest level. Everyone from top to bottom was flawless, 100% reliable, wonderful craftsmanship. They helped us during a difficult time. Very supportive and caring people. Personable and professional. USAA Insurance Company can be extremely proud of this company they referred to us. 5- Star Restoration represented USAA with perfection. Also 5-Star referred us to a local roofing company ( Stefan Schafer Roofers) who fixed our roof perfectly and quickly. Everyone was respectful in our home. They minimized the noise, dust, and mess. I have nothing but praise as you can see for this company and their owner, the Gallions. By the way, insurance estimators and adjusters have a very specific list of pricing and repair costs that are typically paid. 5 Star followed these guidelines to a penny ( actually to a dime). There was no "rip off" as one reviewer suggested. As for all the workers on our job, everyone arrived on time and stayed till their part of the job was completed. If necessary, I could even call the company's advisors on their cell phones if I had even a minor concern or question. What more can anyone ask, especially in this day of being hurried, rushed, corners often cut. Not once by this company. I delayed demolition one day; they couldn't reschedule for 8 days and so I agreed to go w/State Farms referral. A day later, my over-payment cleared. Not a word & no refund. I called the owner. He agreed to refund me, although kept suggesting he was giving me an equipment discount, even after I informed him that the field manager simply couldn't pick it up promptly - he was resolved in much of the information he had from his manager! I have, unfortunately, had more than one experience with restoration comapanies, having dealt with three different instances of fire or water damage. The most recent, with 5 Star, was the most unpleasant. As mentioned by other reviewers, there are some terrific people at 5 Star, but others left me feeling deceived, and I am left with a large bill to pay an outside contractor. The estimate process was confusing and promises were made that were not kept. I requested a simplification of the estimate and was rebuffed and assured the end result would be as discussed. There is more I could say, some good, some not, but this is the gist of my biggest issue. I would advise anyone using them to make sure everything is spelled out and accounted for very clearly. read more
