This review is solely for the pastries I tried at La Cabra. There's always a line out the door, so expect to wait at least a good 15-20mins.. I didn't mind waiting as i've heard such great things about their pastries. Although, I didnt try the cardamom one- I was still underwhelmed. Good flavors that could have been great if they kept the pastries warm intheir display or warmed them up before giving them to you. I waited in line for cold pastries.. not worth it to me, unless you're the first one at the door when they open.
I came here and got some baked goods. The ham and cheese was my favorite. All of them were light if that's your type of baked good. The prices were a little steep but also not necessarily more than they are worth. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is a line, but the place is beautiful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the flavors are interesting and worth trying.
[[HIGHLIGHT]]La Cabra is what my ideal coffee shop would be. Clean lines, a nice vibe/energy the moment you walk in, and I love their focus on the details.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The baristas helpful, cool and not pretentious. The coffee has to be so good otherwise (and for some people maybe they do) the pastries would steal the show. My wife and I split a chocolate croissant and the Cardamom Pastry (amazing!). I love a place that cares about all the details and quality, not just presentation. Sadly I only got over here for one day of my trip to NYC but they have a seriously good coffee line-up and will be a must visit for all future trips.
[[HIGHLIGHT]]Interior is nice, it has about 4-5 tables with extra chairs/stools but no restrooms like most NYC bakeries[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I made a mistake of getting a mocha instead of a baked item - unfortunately doesn't look like it is their strong suit. The mocha was mostly bitter and sour without a hint of chocolate. The staff who took my order and server who brought me my drink were nice and pleasant. In hindsight, instead of the mocha I should have gotten their cardamom bun which they are known for. Hopefully soon!
I love this place! Worth all the hype to me!! (Specifically this location) I had the cardamom latte! I chugged that down! The cardamom bun was to die for! I dream of it! The machine was so cool! Came for the croissants and they did not disappoint. I showed up before opening and didn't have to wait too long to try the pastries. I know La Cabra is known for their cardamom bun but whoever said to come for the croissants was onto something. The plain and chocolate croissants are some of the better ones I've had so I'd say these are hyped to the correct degree. Definitely excited to come back to eat the croissants again and grab a coffee.
I was in the neighborhood and needed a little treat. It had been a minute since my last visit to La Cabra so I decided to stop in. I overheard the server talking about the chocolate croissants, so I was an easy decision when it was my turn to pace an order. And as always, my usual ice latte. (A side note - I am just learning that often the difference in the "size" of ice latte is the amount of milk, not the amount of espresso. For example, both the small and large latte have 2 shots of espresso. The only difference is that the large has more milk than the small. Wild, right?!) The chocolate croissant shattered when I bit into it - it was amazing. 5/5 would order again.
Now, I spent $16 on a pastry and two coffees this afternoon... Then I found this place. Generally, I don't go for sugary drinks so I go for an Americano with some creamer and this coffee had that floral aromatic taste and creamy texture from the cream that I like and it was perfect and it went well with the almond croissant with that custard in the middle. I'm definitely coming back here to get a good cup of coffee and this coffee was iced and yes, I know we just got over a blizzard, but it actually went pretty well.
I was excited to try the cardamom bun because people kept raving about it and I most likely over hyped it in my mind. It was good not mouth wateringly amazing and something I'll dream about getting again. The line gets long but that's what's expected. From entering the store to the actual ordering it took maybe 15 mins and another 10 to get our drinks. Coffee was tasty, next time I'll need to try their matcha.
Truthfully, I do not have enough good things to say about the drinks and pastries at La Cabra. Granted I am a sucker for danish coffee and pastries, but La Cabra does them to perfection. You can tell they care a lot about the art of making coffee here, and you can taste it in every sip. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior design is also phenomenal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will keep coming back for the rest of my days in NYC!

Wanted to try this place out, because my friend highly recommended their croissant! This place specializes in danish pastries! I tried the plain croissant and their most famous cardamom bun. Croissant- more crispy and chewy than most croissants I've tried. The surface is more on the chewy side. I am a sucker for croissants, and currently searching for the best croissants in the city. I would rate this a 4/5 (maybe a bit tooo crispy). Cardamom bun: I've never seen this anywhere else. It's one of their specialties. Unlike the Cinnamon bun, this is only subtly sweet, with a hint of spiciness. Really unique flavor and I would highly recommend getting this! (5/5? Ambiance: interior is small, with a few tables. My friend and I decided to grab some coffee before our lunch reservation nearby. The line for La Cabra was snaking out the door, but definitely worth the wait. There's very limited seating! I ordered the latte, cardamom bun, and bread & butter. The latte was a great pick-me-up on a cold day. I wasn't sure what to expect with the cardamom bun, but the flavor of the spice was just right - Nothing too herbal or overpowering. It ended up being my favorite! Bread and butter consisted of the best sourdough ever... oh and the butter was divine. Can't wait to come back to this coffee shop when I return to the city! read more
Really reminds me of copenhagen. The cardamom bun was so amazing - better than I remember in copenhagen. We got a freshly baked one and it was warm and fluffy. The cheese sandwich was really good but bread was a little stale. There was a line out the door when we arrived at 1pm but it took max 15 mins. Coffee is good but super expensive. Too busy to sit inside with a table so we sat at a nearby park. Would come again for sure. read more
We got the rye tart and the sweet bun. The rye tart was interesting and rye flavoring seems to be a trend nowadays. The sweet bun was more familiar and I appreciated the rhubarb and it wasn't overly sweet. I don't know if I would come back again for either though. The wait took a while even on Memorial Day, and the line got even longer as it went to 11am/noon. I got the Matcha latte which was nice and smooth - probably one of the best I've had in a while. read more
Perhaps I ordered the wrong things but I was slightly disappointed. I got an almond croissant and an iced oat latte. The almond croissant was okay. The texture was a bit denser than I would've liked, lacking that light/airy flakiness. I also feel like there could've been more fillings. I struggled to taste the richness and nuttiness an almond croissant should have. They couldn't heat it up for me. Additionally, I got an oat milk latte and thought it was a bit watery. The place is small with not a lot of seats, and people start lining up soon after they open, so definitely come early! read more
Like Fabrique, la Canra brings a Scandinavian esthetic to the East Village & lines are king and it's a knockout. You peep the char on the breads and know you are in for a treat! Ate: Seeded rye roll Chocolate mouse cake Total: $11 I think The rye roll is perfect- nutty fresh & complex. The mouse cake had a surprise cream inside and was simply luxurious. My new favorite bakery cafe in nyc. Glad I got to try this. Came around 10:30AM, line was out the door. Probably waited good 20 min or so. They have pastry as well as breads, sourdough etc. couple of tables in side and outside. Clean minimal type interior designed. Their theme is goat, super adorable. Cute tote and cups. Tried their sweet bun, cardamom bread is their signature per the worker here, so had to try. It doesn't seem to have fillings, little knotted sweet bread pastry. Would be good for those who doesn't like super sweet pastry, or sweet fillings. The sweet bread, had filling inside, not overly sweet, but the wasn't for me. Instagramable most definitely. We also got, sourdough haven't tried but it was pretty substantial in size, for under $10. But my favorite of all is their drinks. Got matcha latte and it was very good. Can tell they use very good ceremonial grade, matcha powder. Vibrant colors and fresh. Their coffee looked very legit as well. I loved their cups, stoneware cups and pastry comes in a "warm" dish. Details! Will def be coming back! So stop by if you are in East Village area. read more

I have heard so much about this cute cafe/bakery. I trusted my friend of a friend and it was so worth it. I went on a late Saturday afternoon and thank goodness I was able to get my hands on their last pain au chocolat. And omg, this was probably the BEST croissant I have ever tried! From the crispy, flaky layers to the soft, and sweet chocolate bars, the pastry was so good. On my list to come back to try their coffee, but this bakery was just so amazing! The workers were kind and the inside design and layout was so cute and clean. A solid 4.9! read more
The cardamom roll is one of the best. Very soft but a little chewy and flavorful cardamom smell and taste. Coffee is nice too. Very mellow and not sour at all. I need to try their other pastries. The staff are really nice. read more
This is a bit of a social media influencer cafe. Once upon a time I came right after it opened for coffee and cardamom bun - and the place was really great (not crowded). Now it's extremely crowded with a line out the door and I'm not sure quite worth the wait. I thought the Rye tart was a bit bland, dry, and hard, tasted like cardboard to me at times. The soba tea was also a bit watered down. The matcha and croissant were good but not wait for 30 minutes good. Don't think I'd come back. There are other places with comparable pastries and coffee but without a 30 minute wait. read more
Wow, the croissant was airy, crunchy, and not too buttery. 10/10 I came here for the cardamom bun but was not disappointed by the other items. I came around 2pm and it had a small line, maybe 15 min wait on a sunday. Would highly recommend coming here to take baked goods to go, it was a little crowded inside because of the line. read more

Beautiful little cafe in the east village area. The attention to detail in this cafe sets the precedent. Seating is very limited as there's usually a small crowd here, especially on the weekends. It's a great place to come to catch up with friends over coffee. The cardamom buns here are pretty good. I personally really like the rye tart they have here and their cannolis. The lattes are also solid. read more

This is pitched as a must try for the cardamon bun. Came on a Saturday morning and the line was out the door by several people. Ordered and paid for our coffees, a cardamon bun, and an almond croissant. Seating is limited so if staying you need to actively watch out for anyone leaving - not a relaxing experience. My americano was good. Perhaps I had high expectations for the pastries - thought they looked beautiful. The cardamon bun was tasty but a little dense. Likewise, the almond croissant was not croissant like and also dense but covered in almonds, which I appreciated. It's worth a try to say you did, not sure I need to go back. read more

I swung by La Cabra on a Tuesday afternoon trying to look for a table, but perhaps I was too naive as the entire space both indoor and outdoor was packed. Nixing my plans for a sit-down pastry + coffee fika, I ended up just getting their famed cardamom bun ($5) to-go. I can see why there has been such a buzz about La Cabra's buns as I bit into it. The bun is absolutely perfumed with cardamom, from the sprinkle on top to the in-between space of the folds of the bun to the interior as well. It was bold and had a bite to it as well. The light, sticky syrup clung onto my fingers as I devoured the bun, which in itself was a little chewier and denser than the cardamom buns I'm most familiar with at Fabrique's. I won't say one is better than the other because they're both quite different and have their own strong points, but if you're looking for something with a stronger cardamom taste and a denser pastry, La Cabra's version should be the one for you. read more
Was in the area and saw a line out the door for this place. Did a quick search and saw they were known for their cardamom buns, so I wanted to give that a try. Surprisingly, the line moved really quick. There is very limited seating inside, but I got lucky enough to grab a spot as soon as someone left. I ordered the matcha latte and cardamom bun. The matcha latte was delicious and not very sweet, which I appreciated. The cardamom bun was very fragrant- I loved it! Would definitely come back again for both the matcha and the cardamom bun. read more
ONE OF MY FAV coffee shops in nyc!!! Been here a few times and The vibes here are always so relaxed and calming. everything you want in a coffee shop. Their croissants are to die for, some of the best in New York City and their pastries are immaculate. They are perfection and I don't think I can recover from them. The sticky folded one (sorry not sure about the name) was soo soft. The apple one was so unique. Always busy and hard to find a spot to sit! If it was bigger it would be nice to sit and relax with friends. But I love this place especially on the weekends! read more
The problem with seeing a place hundreds of times on tiktok means that I will have an unreasonably high expectation for what the experience will be. It also means waiting in a line nearly out the door on a Saturday morning! La Cabra is a beautiful cafe, the design is sleek and modern (and yes, pretentious). It has gorgeous pastries and is known for its coffee. My cappuccino was gorgeous, I don't quite have the vocabulary to describe it though. Regardless, it tasted like decent quality. I was most looking forward to the croissants! I got a plain croissant and would give it a 8+/10. It was good! But it certainly is not the best. It is super flakey and yummy, but to be honest it wasn't buttery enough. It's a hard line to battle between being too oily and too dry, and this was a little too dry. I also wish it was warmed or to have the option to have it warmed. What am I supposed to do with a cold pastry?? Anyways, the cinnamon bun was good! I wouldn't try it again though, it was fairly mid. I'm not sure if it's because it's vegan, but I've definitely had good vegan pastries before.. The cardamom bun seems really interesting and I think I'd definitely recommend that over the cinnamon. There are a bunch of different options here! Not the most remarkable bakery/cafe, but it's worth trying out once. read more

I came here with a friend recently as it's one of their favorite coffee stops in the city. There was quite a line on the Saturday morning; we ended up waiting ~20-30 minutes. There's also quite limited seating, so either hope to get lucky or expect to take it to go. I got a cortado, and we got a cream chocolate croissant thing (there's a real name I'm forgetting) and their classic cardamom bun. The cortado was classically good; well balanced creaminess, good quality beans, but nothing that blew my socks off. The cardamom bun was good, but a tad too sweet for me. It was also a bit on the doughy side; felt like a solid chunk of bread, whereas I would have appreciated some airiness to the dough. The croissant thing was fantastic; super flaky, with a perfect ratio of filling to crust. The pastries were also quite cold by the time we ate them which was surprising; it was probably a total of 5 minutes between us getting to us eating, so not sure how fresh they were. Will be back to try more of the other pastries! read more

Delicious oat milk late and super cool energy at this place. Really enjoyed the music they played, most of it does not Shazam... is there a DJ hiding somewhere? Baristas are super professional. Whenever I'm in town I love coming here for a quick pick me up! I don't drink coffee so I enjoy getting their hot teas and pastries (esp their cardamom buns). I've gotten many bags of coffee beans for my coffee addict friends! Everyone LOVES their coffee!! The only thing I don't like about this location is that the store is super tiny. Finding a place to sit can be a challenge and there's no public restroom. read more
(Stefon voice) New York's hottest club is: La Cabra. The scene at La Cabra is definitely going to be written up by The Cut soon, but aside from the annoying crowds, their offerings are top notch. I got a chai latte, which was excellent, along with an apple tart, cardamom bun and a loaf of country sourdough. The bun was definitely the best pastry, and the bread was also amazing. Again, it was packed even on a weekday afternoon, so don't come here expecting to get a table easily. They do have a bar you can stand at until something opens up. read more

Really tasty matcha latte and cardamon bun - I understand why there is a hype around it. Baristas were very friendly. It was a small space, which is why I came early around 8am to get a spot to sit. I came to this location of La Cabra after having gone to the other one on Lafayette. This location has great coffee, tea and pastries and a number of tables to sit at. I can imagine it can get very crowded, so be prepared to wait for a table, especially if you are a larger group. The staff were friendly and the ambiance is a very cool, minimalist design. Would definitely come back here again! read more

Pretty good coffee shop / bakery! Got the matcha latte iced - definitely one of the better matcha lattes I've had. Was so good I didn't feel the need to add any sugar, whereas other places I feel need it. Got the almond croissant - definitely a good croissant and worth getting. Also shared a peach bun and a canele. Both are delicious but would say almond croissant was the favorite. read more

I like to stop by La Cabra when I'm in the area! I've tried the following: - ham & cheese croissant - chocolate croissant - rye tart - cardamom bun - almond milk latte I prefer savory desserts so I enjoy the ham & cheese croissant. I think they started skimping on the ham after their 1st year of opening though. Rye tart and chocolate croissant are okay. I personally wouldn't reorder. Cardamom bun was bland. I prefer the ones at Fabrique. Latte takes awhile to make and tastes okay. I like my lattes at home better. read more

Great pastries and drinks! The staff is friendly and efficient, so even though this place had a line out the door, it moved fairly quickly. The iced matcha was excellent, but the real star was the pastries. I got the pain au chocolat and it was so flakey and buttery, with high quality chocolate in the center. It was everything I'd want in a croissant. The cardamom bun was also delicious! I had a nibble of it and it's the type of pastry that would pair beautifully with a cup of coffee. There isn't too much seating inside but it has a sleep minimalist Japanese vibe to it. I was able to find a seat but the majority of people ended up standing or getting things to-go. Ms. Bobalicious searches on Yelp for a new boba spot. Nothing jumps out at her so she looks for a good coffee place instead. What made her choose this one over many others in the Greenwich Village area? Cute logo and the mugs that these lattes came in. The line was out the door. Very limited seating indoors and out. I slide my tush into a chair as soon as some patrons were leaving. The drinks take a while to make. Love the open-concept of the coffee bar, it had a futuristic minimalist vibe to it. You can tell how serious the baristas were in their matching lab coats, it's almost like watching a science experiment as they brew each cup to perfection. The barista(s) will bring your coffee/lattes on a wooden tray to your table. They bake their pastries and bread on the premises. Review after review, it seems that their Cardamon bun is to-die-for. Next time for sure. I even saw a guy dunk it into his coffee. Now that's an idea. I had the Matcha latte (they use Kettl matcha powder). Each sip had me closing my eyes with bliss. It's heavenly smooth and not too sweet which is what I prefer because I want the true essence of matcha to come through. Touted as one of the hottest coffee spots in NYC, this place is worth visiting. read more

This place was my absolute favorite coffee shop during my time in NYC. I was in NY for a month and I went to La Cabra 3-4 times. It is on the higher end of prices, but I honestly felt it was worth it. My go to was the cardamom iced latte. I also got a pan du chocolate, and a loaf of their incredible bread. All of it- 10/10. Always super kind employees, quick service despite it always being absolutely packed with people. It's a comfy chic space and vibe as well. Loved it, wish I had one in AZ read more
Delicious pain au chocolat. Not a lot of chocolate but just enough for my personal tastes. My friend says they've have better where the chocolate was more abundant and melted. Would come back to try their choux. You can also buy w home loafs of bread which I would definitely do. Great coffee, interesting set up where the baristas are very literally making it in front of you with unique espresso set up. The line was... intense... but worth it read more

UNREAL - finally tried the Instagram/tiktok famous cardamom bun. So good honestly better than I expected and I had high expectations. There was a long line to order and get your pastries and coffee but it was worth it. It's so peaceful and calming on the inside I wish it was bigger so the line didn't take up the whole place and you could fit more tables to sit at. But 100% recommend. *they only have oat milk no almond read more

Came to ny to visit and this was recommended. Im pretty picky with my coffee, and their only non dairy option was oat milk (I usually get almond). That being said, this was genuinely one of the best lattes I've had, the coffee had this fruity and light taste, not at all bitter. A small place and it gets busy so I wouldn't recommend coming here to get work done. Otherwise, I'd absolutely come here again read more

La Cabra is probably my favorite matcha in the city. It's the perfect consistency of creamy and green. I like that although it's expensive (what matcha in the city isn't) that it's a good amount and you aren't short changed for it. I also had the cardamom bun! I didn't take a photo (sorry) but it was perfect.The bun is sweet, doughy and super light. Highly recommend. read more
