I have driven by La Panadería in downtown and at this spot so many times, I finally got to experience the goodness at a recent special outing with my son. Casual eatery- order at counter and pay..food will be delivered to your table. But, what did I encounter upon entering? omg their beautiful pastries, desserts, and Mexican conchas. Picked up a guava pastry for later. Ordered the Mexican Cubano torta without cheese and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I chose the birote bread- sourdough crispness on the outside with soft inside texture. This torta packed a ton o' flavor! Ham, bacon, kielbasa sausage, pickles, and bread slathered in their chipotle mustard and cilantro mayo. Delicious! I chose the house salad, rather than soup. Tummy was more than happy. For dessert, I ate the guava pastry in the evening- buttery pastry with a sweet guava jelly filling. Yum! Amazing cafe!! I stopped by for breakfast and tried the chorizo and egg torta. It was so good, it wasn't too heavy, and the bread had a great texture. I also tried a few pastries, including a concha, cinnamon roll, and a chocolate dipped oreja. They were all so good, but I loved their concha the most! An order then find your seat type of dining. Tres leches matcha was a 200000/10. The fideo was lacking flavor. The cubano was delicious but a bit messy. I had ordered an egg over medium but it came over easy. Very good nevertheless. My mother enjoyed her waffle croissant. Their bakery items looked delicious and were displayed in the front. We did not try this time but will be back to try. Alfonso went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met and had a great experience. It was a Saturday morning and super busy, but the service was okay. The sweet bread is good. I ordered a torta de pastor with pan telera. The meat didn't taste bad, but it honestly didn't taste like traditional pastor. The place is spacious, with tolerable music -- nothing too loud, so you can still have a conversation. However, a high-top table for three is pretty small. Those tables should really be limited to two people max, especially when food is involved. read more

This was my third time visiting from California. I come here every time I visit my son in San Antonio. It's our favorite cafe and I love trying all the different pastries. The line is worth it, it's busy for a reason. We ordered our bakery items first and then our meals at the register. I came for my birthday this year so it was an extra special visit to be there with my family. We were provided a table and high chair for my granddaughter. The attention to detail and high quality service is noticed. The food is always on point. The monkey bread we got was a little over baked but still tasty. In celebration of my 100th Yelp review written, I picked a special place to celebrate, La Panaderia Bakery Cafe. Short of a ticker tape parade, or balloons dropping from the ceiling & a hostess bringing out one of those giant checks to me, having breakfast here was a fabulous substitute. Luckily, we arrived before 9am on a Sunday morning and about 30 minutes before the wait grew to just beyond the front door. I'm not sure if having to pass by the window display of baked goods on the way to order while on an empty stomach, is either marketing genius or just cruel. The temptation was too great for me to resist picking up several pastries along the way. Me and the wifey went all in on our breakfast selections with the French Toast Clásico on a churro croissant and the LP Waffle Croissant, both served with eggs. The taste of the French Toast dish was short of amazing with the fresh fruit toppings to complement it nicely. The waffle was much better than the traditional American waffle in both the firm texture and taste. In my opinion, it is a strong contender to the authentic Belgium style while having its own unique flavor than the Danish cookie dough. I could eat either of these croissants any time of the day as they were that good. No meal is worth celebrating or considered complete without dessert. The Tres Leches parfait was just good enough to finish us off for the morning which also made it really tough to stay awake in church service just minutes later. Glad we experienced this restaurant for my first milestone review, as it was clean, ample tables, good service and a breakfast that I'll be anticipating to come back soon and experience. This place you'll place your order before finding a seat. Not only do they have lots of fresh baked goods, but they have great breakfast, brunch, lunch options. Hubby and I both had the Mexican hot chocolate, all I can say about this is that it was delicious! I could've done with less whipped cream but that's me. Hubby had the tequila French toast. He loved it, but by the end he was in a sugar coma. I had the lobster eggs Benedict. Eggs were poached nice, but I prefer mine a bit more runny. Also the eggs were kinda small. The salsa and hollandaise were great compliments to the lobster. Sauces were salty and spicy and paired great with the sweet lobster. They didn't skimp on the lobster either! Both hubby and I agreed that the portion sizes are big, and we could've shared one of these and been pleasantly full. Not a big fan of how you order the food because it doesn't take a while especially if someone is just ordering pastries. Maybe they could have a to go/bakery only line then a sit down line?! Visited La Panadería later in the day around 4:30 pm, and unfortunately most of the treats were already gone--including all of my favorites. That said, we were still able to snag a pastel de nata to share, and it didn't disappoint. It was very flaky, nicely baked, and not overly eggy, which I appreciated. While the limited selection late in the day was a downside, the quality of what we had was still solid. I'll definitely try to come earlier next time for a fuller experience. read more

My go-to place when I visit San Antonio! I wanted to come eat breakfast here before spending the rest of the day at the Six Flags nearby and it looked like everyone else wanted to come here too! There was a long line but that didn't deter me since I've been to another location of theirs before and I loved it!! This is my first time at this location. After waiting for 30 minutes in line, we got to place our orders. I think they do a really good job in presenting all these lovely, tasty-looking pastries as you inch closer to the cashier. They smell so good too. I got the monkey bread and the guava-filled Kouign Amann. My fiancé was so hungry, he took a bite of it before we actually got to pay. These pastries are great if you cannot wait any longer because the other items on the menu take some time to come out. We also ordered Matcha Latte, sunny side up, and a croissant torta. Each dish comes with a side of your choice of soup or salad. The Fideo soup is great! It has noodles inside. I actually got the sunny side up because I thought it was going to be a smaller croissant, but it actually takes up a majority of the plate! I was so full. I love the service as well! There's someone constantly checking on us to see if we're good. You have to order food before you are seated because a server will give you a post it note with the table number as you are waiting in line to order. You don't have to worry about finding a spot! They also do pickup orders. High chairs for children are available too. There's a live DJ and outdoor seating. They really do everything right and that's probably why they have four locations. The idea of the place is the only reason i have it a try. The Ambience, the vibe & the extended menu all good. However they're just selling you a dream. The baked goods aren't any good. Pre packaged snacks taste better. The Carrajillos aren't good. Everything is over priced. All the bread in the front are smushed together, not aesthetic at all. I've been to Paris, London, California& many other places that actually sell good pastries. This place is definitely at the VERY bottom. $38 for 2 breads & two drinks is robbery for the quality i'm getting. Services was a lil slow, their check out system needs to be improved. read more

La Panadería was one of the first places I discovered when I moved to San Antonio, and it's still a spot I enjoy bringing out-of-town visitors. It is a little on the pricey side, but the lattes and bakery items are really good. They used to have a sugared donut that was my absolute favorite, but unfortunately they no longer carry it. The tortas aren't your typical Mexican torta, but they're still good in their own way. That said, I don't really come here for the main food--I come for the bakery and the café vibe. The salads are also solid if you're looking for something lighter. Service is ok. There's this one guy who usually cleans the tables and he's so friendly. I didn't catch his name but he's on it. I was admittedly a little underwhelmed. Former coffee shop and specialty tea shop barista here. I finally made the trip over to La Panadería for the first time and it was absolutely PACKED. Almost every table was full, inside and on the patio, and staff members were bustling around the restaurant cleaning tables as soon as guests left or were bringing out steaming plates of delicious looking meals. Though the guy working the pastry line looked absolutely exhausted, the cashier who took our order was so genuinely smiley and was totally on top of things. I ordered a Passion Fruit filled pastry, Sunny Side Up with Black Beans, and a sweetened Matcha Latte. The Passion Fruit Pastry was sooo delicious with light, flaky pastry and sugar crystals topping the thick and smooth sweet fruit jelly. I was super impressed with it and wish I'd ordered a few more different pastries to try. The Black Beans were super tasty as well and were some of the best black beans I've had. I cannot recommend them enough. The Sunny Side Up on the other hand tasted like something I could've had at any another breakfast place. It was very yummy, but I was expecting something with a little more of an elevated flavor profile with all of the praise I hear for La Panadería. The croissant was light and buttery, the eggs were done just right, the Swiss cheese was delicious, and the ham was fine, but it was just your average breakfast sandwich. I was also disappointed by the Matcha Latte, but more greatly so. It tasted pretty grassy and could have been sweetened a little bit more, though it was pretty smooth and was served at a good temperature. It was frustrating that the taste did not live up to the standards of the cute foam art that topped the drink. I'd like to give La Panadería another shot since the pastry was so good and people swear by this chain. I know I'll definitely try more of their pastries since I that's where they specialize, and maybe try something off the menu that's a little more niche to the restaurant. Hopefully next time my meal is a little more notable. read more

La Panadería is one of those places that makes you proud it's in San Antonio. We came to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make it special. The service here is always incredible -- you can tell the team and owners genuinely care, and it shows in the way they treat their guests. The pastries are next level. Yes, they have the classics like conchas, orejas, and empanadas, but they also get creative -- think Abuelita chocolate conchas, tres leches croissants, and even their famous "croncha." Everything looks beautiful in the case, but more importantly, everything tastes amazing: buttery, flaky, rich, and made with so much attention to detail. Brunch is just as strong -- El Favorito on a spiral croissant is a must, and the black beans on the side seal the deal. We also tried the El Mexicano (scrambled eggs, tomato, onion, jalapeño) and it was full of flavor without being too heavy. You already know La Panaderia is our staple when we visit Texas. It has such a homely vibe and the food is always amazing. Of course, this trip is no different so we had to stop in at some point. This time I got the Avocado Salad and a small cup of Fideo Soup, which I believe is the best Fideo Soup I've ever had. The noodles are always so soft and the flavor from the soup is amazing. The dressing for the salad was delicious and had a good spice to go alongside the salad. We also got a few pastries, because how could you visit La Panaderia and not get some pastries?! I got a mini chocolate Concha and the strawberry Tres Leches. The Tres Leches was so good. Super moist and the strawberries were super ripe too. This was my daughter and I first time here. We went on a Saturday around 3pm, after doing some back to school shopping. It was pretty packed, so we actually had to sit at the bar. The cashier was nice, the young lady serving the pastry was also very sweet. My daughter enjoyed her choice of the lobster Benedict, which I was thankful for. I however wasn't impressed with the steak and eggs, the steak was a bit dry and the bread served with it was really dry, no jelly or butter was served on the side. My macchiato was great! What I found strange was how leadership were sitting at the bar, one making the work schedule while the other had a drink. I also noticed because they pulled the cashier away to ask her about her availability. They actually did this with a few employees. Strange. I would probably come back for the pastry and coffee. More like 3.5 stars, but I got the la vegetariana on a birote and it was a good decent sandwich, no complaints but nothing special. The lentil soup I had on the side was also good and hearty. I also got one of their monkey breads to eat later and it's not a pastry I would get again. We visited this place today and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. We ordered two drinks at the counter and sat down while waiting for our drinks, an employee approached our table with one drink and started speaking to us in Spanish. I politely explained that we didn't understand Spanish. She then asked if our order number was something in the 40s, but I explained that we were never given an order number. Since we weren't sure if the drink was ours, she started asking other tables. She then checked with her coworker, who told her that the drink belonged to our table. However, she still seemed confused and started asking other tables again. We called her over and said, "Ma'am, that is probably ours. We ordered that." She replied, "No, you ordered a cappuccino." We tried to explain that we had ordered two drinks, a latte and a cappuccino, but she completely ignored us and did not listen. She went back to her coworker again, and after confirming the order was ours, she came back and slammed the drink down on our table with an attitude and walked away. A few minutes later, she returned with our second drink and did the same thing again. The issue was not the confusion with the order, mistakes happen. The problem was the rude way we were treated. I asked to speak with a manager, but there wasn't one available. The lead on duty came over and handled the situation. She apologized, offered us a refund, and said we could still keep our order. I explained that because of the way we were treated, we no longer felt comfortable staying or eating there. We accepted the refund, left, and took our business somewhere else. I am sharing this feedback so the managers and owners are aware and can provide better customer service training. Everyone deserves to be treated with basic kindness and respect. read more

When we drove by and noticed there wasn't a huge line already waiting outside, we changed our breakfast plans immediately. So glad we did! The line moved efficiently, so many delicious pastries to choose from! We shared a breakfast sandwich so we could have room to try more than one pastry! The sandwich came with a bowl of fideo which was nice. They do rosca de Reyes was better than it looked! I thought it looked dry but it was nice and soft and delicious. I've always wanted to make Kouign-amann but was hesitant to make something I'd never actually tasted. This was delicious, and gives me more confidence in trying to make it myself. The inside was cute and very clean. The staff constantly checked on guests for any needs or extras. It's been a long, long while since I read that they were planning to turn the old Brickhouse Tavern on 1604 into another location, but it doesn't look like there's been any movement there. 2nd day coming to La Panadería different location. This location definitely more trendy but smaller selection of pastries. Yesterday at the Broadway location I was able to get a concha that did not have the chocolate filling( even though I was told they all have filling) , it was heaven. Today at this location Thinking the filling was a thing of the past, I brazenly ordered a pistachio concha ( she's so beautiful!) and a hot chocolate for a chilly December day. The pistachio beauty not only had a thick piece of semi soft chocolate in the center but also a cream filling ( I figured pistachio since it had a slight green tinge but you do not taste pistachio ) had been injected on both sides. I'm not a fan of messing with concha perfection. The staff at this location is not as friendly . The woman at the counter had to wrap the previous customers purchases ( they do a great job of twirling a concha in plastic wrap) but she made no eye contact or "hey I'll be with you in a bit". So maybe they were short staffed. The hot chocolate was not as hot , they were generous with the whipped topping. And a straw, why a straw ? coming to La panaderia is my guilty pleasure , but I'm saddened knowing LaPanaderia is not my go to for conchas. read more
