Terry was our server last night when we visited Larkin's and she was a well informed and a real life southern Belle! She is a keeper, we told her our preferences and she helped us navigate to get the best choices for our meal. The meal was wonderful, however, overpriced! We eat out regularly and are not opposed to paying for quality. So, the meal was great, and the dessert did not equal the standard of this restaurant. And not by a little or I would not mention it! First of all, and you will know this when you walk in the door, the seating is somewhat bizarre. You will end up in a booth, which is in a row like a school bus. Because of people coming and going, you'll definitely feel like you are in transit. Then the bar service is terrible. Beautiful bar but they will not get your drinks out in any reasonable timeframe. Just order one drink because otherwise you'll get your last one as you're finishing dessert. The food is good but priced more expensive than what they should charge given the other flaws. Our table was waiting for us when we arrived - no waiting! -1 star: Food for the Price The food was just ok. When you order a steak, they literally bring you a tiny steak on a plate. No sides, no condiments, just a plain steak. Presentation was seriously lacking. For a $40 steak in this city, you expect a little more "wow" factor. Additionally, my wife just did not like the steak. Her favorite thing the whole night was the bread. The server recommended their "famous" she-crab soup. It was okay, but we were constantly pulling pieces of shell out of our mouth. Would not get that ever again. -1 star: Service for the Price Our server was very friendly, but was clearly overworked. He had way too many tables and competing priorities. For the wife and I to have a $130 dinner, service should be top notch with a low server to table ratio. Overall, I would recommend Larkins if you are seeing a show at The Peace Center. The valet parking alone makes this a no-brainer. Took my bf here for his birthday and I have to say, we were really disappointed (at least I was...I think he was trying really hard to spare my feelings, bless his heart). First of all, and maybe we are alone in this regard, after circling around 2-3 times we still couldn't figure out how to drive to the front of the restaurant to valet park (our GPS kept telling us to go down this lane that was barricaded off), so we ended up parking on the bridge and walking down the steps to the restaurant. Not a big deal. Yelp lists the attire as being "dressy" but this is definitely an overstatement. As I scanned the restaurant upon entering, I saw people dressed in sweaters, polos, and blouses, I looked down at my black lace dress and heels and immediately felt out of place and spent the entirety of the meal feeling self-conscious about my choice in apparel. Luckily I had a cardigan which helped me blend in more. Again, not anyone's fault, and not a big deal. I agree completely with Jonathan Y. about the ambiance. It tries but is lacking, bordering on that expensive chain restaurant feel. We were seated at a booth, but rather than being an intimate, cozy experience, it was anything but. The way it was set up, we were sitting next to each other, facing the entire dining area, and really had to crane our necks to have conversation. The food was a major letdown. The crab soup, which this restaurant is known for, was hearty and tasty. But then it just all went downhill from there. I had the filet mignon, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The filet mignon was overly salty and tough, the mashed potatoes were extremely dry, insipid, and salty, and the asparagus was unacceptable. Never did I think it possible to mess up asparagus, but yet they did. I was served four asparagus spears, of which only one was fresh, while the remainder were old-- olive-brown in color, wrinkly, and bendy. Gross. I politely FYI'ed the waitress, not expecting her to do anything about it, and was pleasantly surprised when she came out with a dish of fresh asparagus 5 minutes later. However, my big question is: why couldn't they have just brought me fresh asparagus to begin with?? My bf had the bone-in ribeye which he said was 'fine.' As it was his birthday, they served us a dessert on the house. We chose the chocolate torte, which was very decadent. It actually tasted like we were eating a ginormous chocolate truffle, and we could only eat about 2/3 of it. The creme brulee was a nice refreshing juxtaposition, perfectly caramelized on the outside and creamy smooth on the inside. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Our waitress was wonderful, but even she could not make up for the subpar, overpriced food. I came to Larkins for a very special romantic birthday dinner. The food did not disappoint!! Everything was delicious!! We had the table side Caesar salad- so worth it!! I had the Larkins Lobster for my entree - the lobster was cooked perfectly! Plus the take it out of the shell- no mess! The pasta they put it over was a bit over cooked but over all the food was wonderful! My fiancé had the she crab soup - (it was out of this world), and the filet for dinner- perfectly cooked. Like I said the food was great- the service however was terrible!! Being from NJ/ NYC area, I expected a lot better service from such a nice restaurant. Our waitress forgot about us twice! Our food took a really long time to come out and she didn't even remember to bring out my fiancés soup. Once we reminded her she then had to delay our entrees which were finally served to us cold. We came to this place for a dinner with some friends. There was ample seating indoors but also a massive tent set up outside with heaters and plastic siding. The temperature was perfect out there and you didn't even need a jacket at night. First, there was unlimited bread which indication enough that you must go here. The drinks were each crafted to perfection with a great attention to detail. The food was absolutely exquisite. I got the calamari which was perfectly fried and a shrimp dish which had loads of flavor. Not sure where to start. How about, I know most restaurants are struggling to find staff in these tough times. So, i will give 2 stars, under normal conditions, it would be less. First, it is hot, hot hot inside. No air conditioning. They had to keep the door to outside opened. We would have been much cooler outside. My guess is 85 degrees hot. They were out of a few items we tried to order(the special, champagne, etc). Service was very slow. Slow, slow, slow. Nice people. Friendly, but for 85$ to 90$ per person you expect decent service as well as nice people. A few items we ordered were wrong or over looked. We are from out of town but we would not go back. Well you know... if you can't say something good... but I must. My husband and I ducked in here for dinner Saturday night; there were a lot of celebrations going on downtown Saturday night so we commented on that to the hostess, at which time she informed us they had 3 wedding parties. We were seated promptly and greeted by our cheerful and knowledgeable wait, Nina. We ordered drinks and they came promptly. Nina prepared the dipping oil for our bread, took our drink reorder, and sped away to her large party table (6 or 8 I believe). It was about 30 minutes before the bread or our second drinks arrived, that was aggravating, the bread was hot, fresh, soft, and very good though. I had the crab and black garlic deviled eggs, which were amazing! My husband had pan seared ahi tuna appetizer, he said the portion was larger than he gets at Augusta Grill, but it was not as good. We ordered the tableside Caesar salad, which took FOREVER to arrive. Nina cheerfully boasted their special Caesar dressing contains Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar, it was AWFUL, the absolute worst either of us have ever had (and we have had a LOT, we love a good Caesar salad)! We commented to Nina that we learned they had 3 wedding parties, at which time she revealed this had "overwhelmed their ovens". If this is the case, you need to decide if you're going to do 3 wedding parties and close the restaurant, or 2 weddings and keep it open... I know this is a steak house, so maybe we should have gotten steak, but, the tri-tail (I believe it was called) fish special sounded amazing, so we both ordered it. It was AWFUL!!! It was not the sauce, it was the seasoning on the fish, it was like sticking your tongue on a block of salt, really. My husband likes more salt than I do but it turned both our mouths inside out and shriveled our tongues, yuck! And, it was expensive. And, it was tough, over cooked. I don't even remember what the vegetables were because I could no longer taste them. I told Nina our dog would love the salty fish, and asked her to box it up for him! I made a horrible mistake by choosing this place for my daughters prom dinner last night. After waiting over an hour after ordering their food, (with a 7pm reservation) the waitress spilled Tea on one of the girls dress. The manager on duty, refused to believe it happened, calling them liars saying she did it to herself and that the waitress didn't spill it on her. Even though the waitress admitted it was her fault and was very upset and apologized repeatedly. He totally disrespected them, talked down to them, as well as laughed at my daughter, and made fun of her when she was upset about the situation. He showed absolutely no empathy nor did he even attempt to apologize for the terrible mistake his employee made by completely ruining a $600 dress. He absolutely does NOT deserve to work in customer service let alone consider calling himself a manager. At this point, 2 hours in, they still had not received their food, so they all decided to just skip dinner and go to the prom without eating. When they attempted to leave, they were told they could not leave, and if they did leave they would still be responsible for paying for the food, that they STILL had not received and that they had no intention on getting because of all they had already been through. So, after the wait, the completely ruined $600 dress and absolutely disgusting disrespect, attitude, and poor management they still were charged for food they did not eat! Instead they were forced and bullied into paying, and then all given to-go boxes immediately. Which, by the way... they weren't able to actually leave the restaurant until AFTER 10pm... the prom ended at 11pm. So not only did this ruin their dinner, a $600 dress, and their entire evening, but it also completely RUINED their prom! After this, we asked for the information to contact the owner(s) and were refused. We contacted another location for said information and were still not given the info. Instead we were promised a follow up from the owner, to which we still have NOT received. This is something I'm sure the local news would love to know about. As well as any one who plans on visiting Larkins in the future. I will make sure everyone I come in contact with will know this is a horrible restaurant with despicable management and staff that can't take responsibility for their errors, blame their patrons for things that aren't there fault, and completely bully their customers! If this is what they call "fine dining", it was absolutely not worth it! From now on, I think I'll stick to my mediocre restaurants that actually know what true customer service is. read more

Some things should never change. Me and my wife decided to go there for our 1st wedding anniversary. Haven't been there in a while and didn't know they had move into a new building. The inside was not as pleasant as the old location and me and my wife was not comfortable. The view by the window is now the street and the ABC store across the street. You can't sit in a booth unless you slide the table out to get in. They raise the menu prices, and they change the way they prepared the food. My steak that I order tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill and me and my wife ordered two loaded bake potatoes and they only give you half a potato each. My wife ordered Chilean Sea Bass, which was her favorite, and it was not the same, nor it was cooked right. It didn't taste right, and she sent it back to be redone. They prepared her order again and her stomach was upset. It was just a bad experience for both of us and it's not worth the money to go there anymore. Also, the free dessert they used to spell out Happy Anniversary for you, now they just give you a free sample of the dessert now. I really did want to try this place, it looked like it really had some potential. Classy, casual with an upbeat vibe. A sign out front boasts the best bloody Marys in town and I'd say they are up there. Nothing fancy, no shrimp or bacon just a very good drink. It's about even with Roost for top bloody Mary in Greenville. A title that use to be held by Soby's but the last two times I've been there all I could taste was a stiff shot of horse radish embellished by and old soggy slice of bacon and a few small, bland shrimp. Very uninspired. So yes this place knocks Soby's down by a few on drinks but not food. The fried calamari was delicious and the portion was worth it but the steak was a disappointment. Five thin slices of very average steak drenched in a onion and butter jam. It literally tasted like eating onion candy. Why in the world would you put something overwhelmingly sweet on top of such a small portion of steak. Bad steak, cold fries and no presentation. The plate ran before tax and tip, I think around $35. Looking at my pic and reading my experience I'm sure you can feel my disappointment. Awesome service, a great, attentive staff but unless your looking to get diabetes I'd avoid the steak. I would go again but would just order the bloody Mary and fried calamari to avoid disappointment. We were in town to pick up a BMW at the nearby Performance Center. We decided to have a nice dinner and see downtown. I picked Larkins based on the Yelp reviews. It was quite nice, with a very upscale menu and food. The steak was very good, and I liked the potato au gratin. A word of warning--this place is not easy to find by car. It is lower than "street level" and my GPS was very confused. I had to call the restaurant and get better directions once I was in the area. Once you find it, there is easy and free valet parking. When you finish dinner, take the time to leave you car parked and walk the river just a bit. The Falls Parks is a short walk away, and there are a lot of bars/shops/restaurants in the immediate area. read more

We we're celebrating my bf milestone birthday and he was looking forward to getting the dry aged New York strip. Unfortunately there seems to be some inconsistencies with how the steaks are prepared. Temperature wise, the steak seemed to be cooked perfectly to medium rare. But the flavor wasn't there, all you can taste was the char on it. They did take it back and refired a new steak but it's just not the same. I ordered for my dinner the lamb shank and it was excellent. It's very tender and falls off the bone and I think it was the best dish on our table. I would give that a 5 star. The Mac and cheese it self is very flavorful but you can add lobster for extra. They put CHUNKS of lobster throughout the side dish! This side dish is a meal in itself or needs to be shared. The Tuna is a big portion as well. Whatever sauce they had on the plate was phenomenal! I can see why hey charge $5 for split meals, every portion served is god for two people. My fiancee and I visited Larkin's on Friday (the 13th) of Valentine's Day weekend. It was busy and their was also a show going on at the nearby Peace Center yet we were greeted and seated promptly on the covered & heated patio. Our server was Ed who by the way has a terrific table-side manner about him. He was extremely patient with out, never seemingly to rush us (or turn us) although it was an extremely busy night. We chose they table-side Caesar, Ed's presentation was impeccable. For entree's, I had the 28 oz bone in ribeye "steak Oscar" style and my fiancee chose the surf n' turf (lobster tail & torpedo tenderloin). Everything was excellent. We decided not to have dessert because we were stuffed (generous portions). Next time, I would like to try the She Crab soup and Hot Smoked Atlantic Salmon. Just left...My wife and I ordered two meals and noticed a party of 6 walk in shortly after us, as well as two other couples. One hour into our reservation we'd received drinks and an appetizer. The other groups midway into their meals when our waitress informed us for the 3rd time that our food will be right out. We let her know that we'd like to cancel our order and she retrieved the manager to let us know our food will be right out. Due to covid-19 they were not busy despite it being Friday. As we spoke with the manager I noticed I was the only black person in the restaurant...I strongly belief the Larkin's management is racist and I will not be visiting again. read more

In a word, disappointing, and I really wanted to like this place. I took my wife here for our 15th anniversary, and since we moved to SC, we have been looking for a go-to steakhouse for date nights. We arrived early for our reservation, and had a seat at the bar for drinks. One of the bartenders told us he could serve us at the bar, so we cancelled our table, and ate at the bar. The good: The bar has a great liquor selection, tons of bourbons, I had a pour of George T Stagg, and other spirits to choose from. We ordered the Truffle Fries, which were really good. The heirloom mushroom side was excellent. The bacon wrapped scallops were a great addition to the meal. My steak was cooked to perfection, see below for my wife's. The atmosphere was good. It was casual and relaxed, and felt comfortable. The not-so good: The service was mediocre. We finished our drinks and the bartender never asked if we wanted another. We would have stayed for another drink or two after our meal, but we weren't even asked if we wanted desert. We felt rushed to leave, and it was an hour before closing. There is no flavor, to anything. We were told we had to try the sauces, which we did, the Umami sauce was ok, the Horseradish sauce had no horseradish. The garlic aioli for the fries had no garlic, it was just mayo. The garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic, and tasted like plain instant potatoes. The sauces were needed, because the steak had absolutely no flavor. If you are touting yourself as a steak and seafood restaurant, the steak has to stand on it's own, at least in my opinion. The cuts of meat were not great, they were the same quality you would get at any chain steakhouse. My wife ordered a 10oz filet, which on the menu didn't suggest it was bone-in, but she received a bone-in filet, which was all marbling, charred on the outside, and unevenly cooked on the inside. I had the 40oz tomahawk ribeye, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I expected more from the most expensive steak on the menu. I understand that being a transplant from Dallas, and having been able to frequent III Forks several times, I have a pretty high bar for steakhouses, but to me Larkin's is overpriced for what they're offering. I don't mind paying for high-end restaurants, but I expect high-end food and service for the money. I just didn't get the experience I felt like we paid for. My go-to place for business lunches when I have business visitors to Greenville. Great location to show off the beauty of downtown Greenville, convenient walkability to my downtown office and parking in nearby parking garages with just a short walk to Larkin's. Great menu with everything from seafood to steak, salads, etc. I love the goat cheese quesadilla! The shrimp and grits are also delicious- but really everything I have had there I has been delicious! Great brunch spot too- and good for large group celebrations like graduation, etc. Great crafted cocktails too. Beautiful views of the back of the Peace Center and the Reedy River. This is also the perfect place to go to dinner before an evening at the Peace Center or a drink after. Welp, lesson learned. NEVER AGAIN. Awful cocktails, slow service, subpar presentation. Steak was ok but not stellar. First let's start with the cocktails. Larkin has a lovely cocktail list but a bartender who doesn't know her proportions for a true Blood & Sand. Equal parts btw* What I received was a watered down orange juice with a splash of other ingredients. Watered down because of the crap ice they used. I sent my drink back to be served UP, not on the rocks in a wine glass (As it should be for this type of drink). It happened again when I ordered a Manhattan. *Server forgot my order for 20 minutes. Again served on the rocks in a wine glass with watery ice. A Manhattan is always served up unless specified. This is not rocket science. At $12 per drink I expect more knowledge from a bar program. Slow service: We sat down at 7pm. It took 20 minutes for a waitress to speak to us. Cocktails arrived by 735. Appetizers arrived at nearly 8. Waitress didn't apologize. No one seemed concerned that we were an hour into our dinner and it was coming out entirely too slowly. Dinner was finally served 100 minutes after being seated. Too slow. We were waiting with empty drinks much of the evening. Portion: When the "chefs tasting" finally rolled out, we were served 1 small crab cake. Funny how my companions mentioned that this was unusual considering they got 2 large crab cakes on a previous visit with the prefix. Hmm we're they rationing things out? Or did they just not care about our table at the end of the night? Presentation: My filet mignon was presented on a small slender rectangular appetizer plate. Which was odd. A $65 tasting menu served differently at the end of the night (I saw other tables and their orders). My sides were 3 small asparagus stalks and a small portion of potatoes. Obviously because more would not fit on the plate which was too small for a steak entree & sides. Desserts were unremarkable. Overall I doubt I'd ever return to this downtown tourist trap.
