This place looks great from the outside. I usually walk by it and it's usually pretty busy, but today I decided to go and it wasn't very busy. I was sat with my partner, and it took quite a while for the server to approach. We ordered a calamari appetizer and a large portion of the muscles. The calamari came and was a large portion, but tasted like someone had freshly washed it with soap. The muscles came and the plate itself was huge, but every other muscle was empty and just a shell and there was NO sauce. It was hands down the strangest meal. I also don't think our server was sober. She was slow, unfriendly, and slurred a few of her words. It looks cute, but none of the food was remotely tasty. read more

They have a good appetizer $25 menu. However, as a first-time customer who is often enough in the area, they did not allow me to have half a salad appetizer and half a gnocchi dish. I really wanted fish soup, and there was not much in the area. I wasn't in the mood for a plate of big leaves or too much gnocchi I took have of the gnocchi I ordered home. They were not as good as the Italian ones at the Holiday Inn in Sardinia last summer. They had corn and shallots. I was told they did not have peas or diced carrots to add. They could have added spinach, which I love, but i was not in the mood. They should accommodate customers, especially new ones. The water was not cold. read more

First off, the cucumber mint vodka cocktail tastes like sea water mixed with vodka (I don't even know why or how it was salty). After deciding to get wine, the waitress told my friend and I that they didn't sell sauvignon blanc by the glass and gave us a $64 bottle of the most average wine ever. I split the chicken sandwich with my friend and couldn't choke down any more of it after 2 bites. It was way too salty for anyone to enjoy. Thankfully the fries were fine so at least I was able to eat part of my overly priced meal. We were seated at a table in the corner where the AC did not reach, so all of my friends were profusely sweating in the stuffy corner we were sat. I took a trip and fall after tripping over one of those road barriers in the street when the staff at Left Bank let me sit at one of their outside tables with water before they opened up the kitchen so I can feel a little better (I am prone to extreme dizziness because I have low blood pressure and have fainted in the past). Since they were being kind, I ordered the kale salad and homemade French fries while I was collecting my bearings. The kale salad and French fries were delicious and savory. The restaurant is a bit on the pricey side but I would consider coming again for nicer and special occasion moments. Left Bank is a treasure in the West Village. The food is consistently good. I love when Laurence, the chef/owner tries new offerings. Always good. The fries are divine. There is a whole overnight ritual to making them. Have never had a better fry! All offerings are tasty-it is just a matter of your palette. The wait staff is so knowledgeable about each course, and very attentive. They are also flexible about bringing half portions. Happy hour has excellent offerings. Me friend and I wanted to go to NYC Summer Restaurant week and she works in the WV and I work in Soho, so we decided to come here since it was close enough for both of us to walk to and it had a really good menu! I never really heard of this place before, but was excited to try it, if its in the WV it must be good, and it was! Inside is very cute, would be a good date spot too. We both ordered from the RW menu. For appetizer I had grilled octopus and my friend had the brussels spouts, both were very good! Then for entree I had a hard time deciding because there was a lot that sounded good but ended up with the burger which was messy but delicious and worth it. They put a really good sauce on it that made it. And for dessert I had the maple pie which was incredibly sweet but very good, but I could not finish it. We are from out of town and a friend, who lives in New York, took us here for lunch. He described it as one of his favorite lunch places. The menu was small - not very many choices. I don't say this as a criticism - it definitely felt like the owner had decided to do a few things very well, rather than offer many mediocre choices. I got the Dutch Baby which was amazingly delicious. The ambiance of the place was very comfortable. My only criticism was that the service was okay. Our server never really checked it to see if we needed anything. He definitely ascribed to the belief that we could flag him down when we needed anything. Popped in here for a earlier Saturday dinner with some friends. I was the first to arrive, but they still seated me at the table and brought me water and menus to peruse. Once everyone arrived, we ordered drinks. They have a large wine list with an ample amount of cocktails. The cocktails change seasonally, which is nice if you want to come back and try something new. For a meal, we were offered a pri-fixe option of an appetizer and pasta dish. The appetizer included any of their shares, vegetables and/or appetizers, so we went with the asparagus and chopped kale salad to share. I had the Tagliatelle alla bolognese as my entree. The food was excellent. The flavors were great and the dishes were prepared well. The meat in my bolognese was tender and not tough/chewy at all. Service was good. Everyone was friendly and attentive to our needs. The pacing was great too, so we didn't feel rushed between appetizers and entrees. Ambience here is cute. It wasn't too busy when we were there, but i could see this place getting more bustling as the night goes on. I enjoyed the decor inside...it felt very West Village! Overall, I loved this place for a nice but causal meal. It's on the pricier side when it's all said and done, but you'll get a great meal in a cute atmosphere. Can't wait to come back! read more

They just launched their brunch menu and it was delicious! Had the salmon & whitefish with poached eggs and hollandaise on potato latkes. Really liked that it was a bit different from the typical salmon benedict you see from other brunch spots! The Dutch baby pancakes topped with fresh fruits in a skillet was delicious and it takes about 20 mins. after ordering. It's light & fluffy, and crispy - perfect texture. I don't generally go for sweet things for breakfast/brunch but these were really good. It's more like a dessert to me. The decor is pretty. It's a perfect place for dinner with friends and date night. They also have a nice bar but the space there isn't all that big. read more

Came with a friend based on a review he'd read recently. The Pulled Chicken au Jus sandwich is DELICIOUS!! It's $14, but soooooo worth it! The menu description: toasted garlic baguette with drenched pulled chicken. It also comes with a side of "juice," which is essentially a savory sauce that you either pour over the sandwich or dip your sandwich in. Either way, it's a DELICIOUS addition to an already delicious sandwich. After I got it home, I finished it so fast that I was mad at myself for not getting two! My friend got his with two sides (pictured), but I just got the sandwich by itself. I'll be going back tomorrow to get the whole kit & kaboodle! The food is excellent! Ok so I'm used to a wonderful welcome when I walk in a restaurant. (We got one at 11 Madison Park just moments back - but we had no reservation and you can't be impromptu with Divinity...) We headed on downtown and as we drove down I mindlessly (won't happen again) booked it on Open Table ... mainly because it was pouring and we would be able to run in off the street (after visiting the beautiful Trace Foundation a half block away) Note it was really pouring rain. I mean pouring. So essentially we ran in from the storm at 4:30 -they open at 5pm. We came in like two stray cats seeking dry shelter (I had a box with a painting inside so I was very insistent on staying) and were almost turned away had I not insisted. Finally after telling us "No" and then me insisting on him asking permission, we were told we were allowed to stay... So we sit at the high stools at the entrance. Ask if maybe we could get a drink? No drinks available until 5pm... So here we are waiting 30 minutes with money to burn and thirsty and totally ignored by the staff.... Go figure. There are two rooms and we were finally (after asking at 5:05 if maybe we could be seated) led into the second room where a loud old table fan placed on the floor was barely making a cool breeze in a hot sticky room without air conditioning. Why they sat us here and not in the cooler room? Go figure. Bare stark tables - no bread offered. Ok the Nosh was good -because we were both starving (having not had time to eat all day) but two huge pieces of bread and one little nick of cheese do not balance out. Tasty as it was it was greasy with butter melted in the bread for who knows why. There was a sense that this place really doesn't give a hoot if you eat there or not. Or maybe they were annoyed because we asked to come in from the rain?? Did I mention the flood alert? My kale salad was too salty- way too salty and had mostly kale and pecorino y basta. So it was meh. Mio ñoqui anche, swimming in oil and soggy onions. I relied on the sweet peas to save me. If we were not starving I don't think I would have eaten my dish. My partners steak was ok he said and the fries were I think from frozen not fa to table for sure. The staff was not unpleasant but really -to be honest - seemed blasé about us being there. It is a neighborhood corner restaurant with an attitude.... Go figure.... Sorry not my taste. And we wasted like $170.00 on this joint. read more

Late review but I came for dinner during 2014 Winter Restaurant Week and you know how I love my West Village spots. We started off with a little Cotes du Rhone to get the meal started. For appetizers my party had: -steak tartare (cornichons, mustard, toast supp $5) not my favorite but it was good -Mongolian dumplings (soy, lime & scallion) these were interesting and had a strong flavor to them For my main I had: -strozzapreti (kid goat sugo, caramelized onions & pine nut) this is not a tomato sauce by the way... It's a very rich, meaty sauce made with the jus of the goat meat and it was delicious! For desserts my table shared the lemon tart with fresh whipped cream and the hot chocolate brownie a la mode. Both were scrumptious! Overall it was a great Restaurant Week meal especially for the price! The flavors were so rich and I was absolutely stuffed by the end. I will definitely come back as it's a great little restaurant. I loved the front entrance with its beautiful lights display. It's deep within the WV maze but worth it. read more

We came here at 6pm on a Thursday for a business dinner for 8. The place eventually became packed. The mood was fun, not too noisy, a little stuffy temperature-wise. Prices are pretty high but it's the West Village and this place has a cool ambiance. My waiter sounded convincingly French with a slight attitude. He didn't come around often and ignored us for a while. My hunger was gnawing. Food was quite good--I got the chicken with polenta which was delicious. I noticed all portions around the table were ample. Vegetable side dishes were all good. Rose wine was a good choice--dry and refreshing. Where the place needs help are the cocktails and dessert. I had a West Village twist on a Manhattan, which was okay, not great. And we tried practically all the desserts which were mostly okay. The maple "pie" crust was so hard everyone was laughing while I struggled to get a bite. I hear they have a good happy hour. Food was fine and ambience was good. However, my friend and I walked in at 9:29 on a Saturday night with a 9:30 reservation. Originally, it had been 9:15, but we changed it to later because we were coming from the theater. When we approached the host, instead of welcoming us in, she said "well actually we had you in for 9:15, so you're late". Not exactly hospitable. Also, even if our reservation had been for 9:15, we weren't even over the 15 minute grace period yet. I took out my phone to show her the email I had received confirming the time change, and she very rudely said "doesn't matter. We had you for 9:15". As a hostess for a restaurant myself, I was shocked to see that this is what Left Bank has at the door as a customers first introduction to the establishment. Very abrasive and rude and left a sour taste in my mouth for the rest of the evening. Won't be back. read more

Quiet cozy place for Sunday brunch in the heart of what I would say is NYC's brunch hub! Came around 12:30 and the place was pretty empty which made for perfect conditions to catch up with an old friend. The grilled cheese was divine. Bread was toasty but did not hurt your mouth to bite into. Tomato soup was splendid too. My friend and I split both the sandwich/soup and the dutch baby and the portions were perfect for sharing. Expensive drinks - $14 grapefruit mimosa - but the size is substantial. The Village Green cocktail was also yummy. Overall was not that expensive, $70 each for the dutch baby, grilled cheese, and 3 drinks each. Classy and chill establishment! read more

The maple syrup pie is a great way to finish off a meal with its crunchy crust and sweet and soft maple syrup base. Consistent with the unpolished nature of the Restaurant Week menu, which featured two separate typos ("parmessan", "moussse"), the overall experience was solid, but Left Bank is not a must visit. read more

This is a pleasant neighborhood restaurant. Seating is cozy but not tight. Restaurant is full of chatter but not loud where you can have dinner conversations. Service was very nice. The smiling hostess quickly greeted me upon entry and my party was already there. Water was usually topped off and food came out pretty quickly. Our food was good. The grilled octopus was slightly on the salty side but all the other dishes were fine. The salmon was flaky and moist. The butternut gnocchi had a nice flavor and good different from the usual. My ragu fettuccini was 'al dente' and meat sauce complimented the pasta. The desserts was equally enjoyable. The group enjoyed the evening out at Left Bank. We didn't get off to the great start upon arriving at the restaurant. As we were being sat one of the waitresses kind of freaked out over where we were being sat. She said there was a reservation for that table. No one wound up sitting at the table the entire time we were at the restaurant. When we sat down I had the pleasure of hearing the same waitress say "where is my f***ing coffee? I've been waiting 25 minutes!" She seemed to be having issues with the bartender. Luckily this waitress was not our server. After this we went on to have a delicious dinner! I'm usually not one to order chicken at a restaurant but someone's rave review led me to order it. It was amazing!! It was cooked perfectly. The skin was nice and crispy. I loved everything about it. We also got the rounded cauliflower, something I've never had before. It was a nice addition. I remember I got the shaved Brussel sprout salad for my appetizer & I was obsessed! This year when deciding where to go for Valentine's Day w my boyfriend, I suggested Left Bank (my boyfriend had never been). He LOVED it as much as I did.... even said it was one of his favorite meals! There were 4 courses (I forgot to take pics of 2 of them). Came here for restaurant week. I've been wanting to eat here for quite some time. It was good, not great. We got the octopus and steak tartare apps. The octopus was smokier than I like but good. The steak tasted like raw hamburger. That's not a bad thing, per se, but not the best I've had. For dinner, we split the cacio e pepe and the chicken. Two of their signature dishes. Both were very good! The chicken and pasta were each cooked to the perfect doneness. Except..SO SALTY. I love salt and am often accused of such. And I thought it was so salty. My poor husband with high blood pressure is having heart palpitations! Dessert was fine. The service was fine. Drinks were good. Don't know that I'll return. read more

They do serve grumpy's coffee though which is a nice touch, but it's $4 and the cups are super small but come with refills. Given the plethora of quality restaurants in NYC, I would search elsewhere for your brunch fare. For $16, the cheese omelet is served with a homemade cheese mixture, which wasn't my favorite especially after a couple of bites when it became slightly offputting. And it only comes with a side salad. A crazy price for some eggs and greens. The dish was fine but nothing memorable. The best dish was the french toast, which wasn't too sweet or heavy, but had a nice richness to it. The Dutch pancakes were also enjoyable with the addition of some syrup. The most underwhelming dish was the potato latkes. They were lukewarm and mushy as though they weren't cooked all the way through.
