Levine bakery was on my list of place to go in new york after seeing it's cookies on several food shows. They have a small store one block away but this one is bigger and you don't have to be in line outside :) We ordered the famous walnuts and chocolate chip cookie to try and it did not disappoint. It was big and decadent. Crunchy on the outside, still warm and soft on the inside, and the chocolate to dough ratio was perfect. It definitely met my expectations. Delicious. Love me a good cookie. The dark chocolate with PB chips was by far my favorite of the three we tried. The classic CC with walnuts was great and so was the dark chocolate with chocolate chips. But I could go back over and over for that PB chip cookie. I just wish they were warm. But wouldn't you know that my crazy ass likes the original by a tiny but still present margin. This review isn't a "be careful what you wish for" cautionary tale. I've heard so much hype and now I finally get it. I got a dark chocolate peppermint cookie and it's insanely good. It's cooked at the perfect temperature where the chocolate chips inside are still melty. It's a solid yet gooey cookie for $5. It was delectable. Next time I'll buy milk with it. read more

Honestly these are probably the best cookies I have ever had! I got them once back in 2016 and I feel as if they are still just as amazing! This one was very flavorful with nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, and ginger. - banana chocolate chip is so so moist and chocolaty. COVID 19 situation: Walked 2 miles to try this bakery and I can definitely say I won't mind doing that again!! I first discovered Levain on Yelp ages ago - the cookies looked so good I decided to bookmark one of their locations. Some time later, one of my colleagues bought a few of their cookies to work and I was instantly blown away at how amazing they were. I was on the UWS killing time before dinner when I noticed this particular branch of Levain while walking down Amsterdam Ave. Since calories don't count on the weekends, I decided to take a gander and grab something sweet. In general, reviews of Levain say that waiting on line is totally worth it. While I agree with them, I was happy to discover barely any line when walking in on a late Sunday afternoon. Because of the off time I went, the only things they had left were 3 flavors of cookies - but that was okay since cookies were what I came for. I decided to get a chocolate chip walnut cookie with a large coffee. The cookie was amazing - large, slightly crispy on the outside, warm and chewy on the inside, and chock full of chocolate chips. It was a real treat and everything you want out of a cookie - a total win. The staff was also great - everyone was friendly and service was fast. It's definitely worth it to stop at a Levain and pick up some treats; it was one of the best cookies I've ever had. I'm sure to be back and explore more of their offerings. read more

Whenever I have a craving for cookies I go to Levain. Their thick, chunky cookies are irresistibly delicious and fit my preference for a doughy and soft inner texture. I went to the original location in Upper Westside but there was a long line outside, especially because the number of people who can get into the small space is limited. The good thing about Levain in the Upper West is that it has two closeby locations. If you're like me, and know that you don't have the patience to wait in line in the cold, I recommend going to the other location that is only two blocks away. When I got there, there was also a line but it was inside and moved really fast so I could hardly call it a wait. I ordered my favorite - the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip. I'm usually a chocolate chip and walnut person, but after I tried the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, I knew I couldn't go back. I went to the original bakery years ago and as much as I loved the cookie, I wished they had a pure chocolate chip cookie with no walnuts (because really, them nuts are just taking up the space where chocolate chips could be). When it comes to cookies... Levain has my heart. That dark chocolate peanut butter cookie is one of my favorite cookies anywhere/ever and I find myself zig zagging up to the bakery any time I'm even close by the UWS. This new location they have is fantastic. While it sn't as charming as their teeny tiny shop on 74th, it's still beautiful and staffed with the nicest people, and of course is full of amazing baked treats. As a bonus - they've got a counter with stools along both sides of the shop so you could actually sit and enjoy a cookie & a cup of coffee inside if you wished. It was so nice to stop by this oldie but goodie for a sense of normalcy! The shop took great precautions and I felt quite safe through the medical grade masks, plexiglass barriers, hand sanitizers, and socially distanced lines. And the cookies look as amazing as always. They have a new flavor available, two chip, although the verdict from the hubs is that their original chocolate chip walnut is still numero uno. While Levain's is not celiac safe, this was my FAVORITE celebration / long week / breakup / promotion therapy spot. And while I can't have cookies here now (their gluten-free is baked in the same facility with the gluten-full cookies... I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that this might change at some point), it was really nice to come by and pick up cookies for the hubs! read more

I am on a Gluten free diet (im celiac) and they have 4 gluten free options. they are careful to explain that there may be cross contamination (baked in the same oven as regular cookies). I will preface this review by saying I absolutely adore Levain cookies and pastries. What I am less a fan of is, for those of my friends who are allergic to nuts, there is a wide dearth of pastries they can consume without dying. I ordered the peanut butter dark chocolate cookie because I was feeling like I wanted a heart attack that day, big exam coming up in grad school. The cookie itself, was consumed about 30 minutes later when I arrived at the apartment. It was still warm and paired exceptionally well with a bottle of milk I had been saving -- fancy milk. The cookie was not overwhelming sweet or too overpowering in the chocolate sense. I am not a fan of chocolate, but I adore peanut butter. Overall, a delectable cookie and well worth the hype. The line moved very quickly and the cookie-tenders were very helpful in helping me suss out what I really wanted to eat. My first visit to the new and second West Side location today. Only three blocks from the old one. Beautiful space to enjoy a cookie! Everyone was so polite and helpful. I took photos and asked if products were different. I was told it's the same as on 74th. There's much more space to line up for service. People won't be outside no matter what the weather. You have plenty of seating along both walls. The LeVain history is the new wall decor. They have updated business cards and postcards to send your friends and family! I used to live on the other side of Broadway on West 74th many years ago. I love the old LeVain location! It is my favorite cookie in the whole wide world. I always get the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie. Today it was exceptionally good!! I did see other things I'd like to try. It's hard to load that many carbs. I can't handle delayed gratification. I want it eaten that day! I will return to sit to eat in the future. I think I'll enjoy the new space. The price has not gone up in quite a few years. These cookies were SO good. We stopped by and picked up a couple of their famous chocolate walnut cookies and a couple of oatmeal raisin. Of the two, chocolate walnut cookie was my fave, and I'd love to get my hands on some right now. These are not the typical thin, crispy chewy cookie (which I also love) but more like chocolate scones. Thick, doughy, buttery, and full of chocolate. They're $4 each, but since it's so big and thick, I think it is well worth the money. As good as it is, it's hard to finish on your own. These are some of the richest, gooiest cookies I've had the pleasure of tasting- I swear they're baked on the perfect cusp between raw and well done. I've heard of Levain Bakery and their infamous cookie pucks way before this trip to NYC. I was in the neighborhood, so I had to make Levain's one of my stops. This being the closer, newer, larger location, I opted to check out the store on Amsterdam vs their original, tiny, below sidewalk level spot at 167 W 74th St. Counter seats line either wall, while a maze is set up in the center for the line of customers that ebbs and flows throughout the day. I liked how they had all their day's offerings set out behind a clear case for all to see, with prices clearly labeled. It being my first visit, however, I had to try their cookie in the original flavor - Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie $4. Best described as a scone or a puck in shape, it was easy to bite and somehow the chocolate chips remained melty even into the next day. The nuts added texture and cut the sweetness some, although the package as a whole was not overly sweet and didn't need the milk that I enjoyed alongside it nevertheless. Their Sour Cream Coffee Cake $3.25/slice was also deemed not overly sweet, which from us would be a praise. read more

I had been wanting to try these cookies for a very long time. It sounded like a good treat after visiting the Museum of Natural History and before spending some time in Central Park. We split the dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie and the dark chocolate chocolate chip cookie. They were heavy in feeling, but light in taste. Gooey and warm and all-around amazing.
