I stopped by Levain Bakery on Amsterdam in NYC for the best chocolate chip walnut cookie. This large half pound iconic cookie is considered the best and most popular choice at $5.75. Counter service was very friendly and efficient. They also sell other cookies, fresh breads and other baked treat desserts. Purchasing these cookies is a must do every time I'm in Manhattan.

I hit up Levain each time I visit the city. I can buy them frozen at Whole Foods and bake them myself but there's nothing like a warm, freshly baked cookie from a specialty shop. I'm not the biggest chocolate fan but ordered the caramel coconut chocolate chip cookie. The flavors reminded me of a GS cookie but the cookie slapped and was so thick, soft, chewy, and gooey. It was dense, rich, ultra sweet, and everything I expected. My husband ordered the oatmeal raisin and it was more cakey than cookie. Next time I'll get the lemon or dark chocolate peanut butter cookie. The service is just as cheerful and bright as their shop.

Lower rating because the service was horrible. We came in on a Sunday, 11:30am. The girl at the counter was very rude, unwelcoming and didn't say please wait a minute. She was very short saying move aside, which one, then stopped to make cookies. Which making cookies is fine, she just didn't say one moment. She took half of our party's order and walked away. The second girl who came up a few minutes later wasn't any better. No smile, no have a good day. This was the location off 74th street. Cookies taste good, very sweet. 3 stars for service and that's being nice.

I love the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookie! If you like Peanut Butter you will love this cookie! Warm it up and it is so so delicious! I bought a bunch of the 4 pack - Signature Cookie Assortment for Friends and Family back home. And bought an assortment box of a dozen cookies for the office. The person who helped me was so patient and kind and had some great recommendations for the gifts and for packing the cookies for travel to assure freshness. The display was wonderful and I was surprised to see other baked goods being sold at this location. This shop is very close to the Original Bakery. Very warm and inviting as a cookie place should be. Everything in the case looked delicious. The loaf cakes looked wonderful. Tried the Blueberry Muffin. Moist and just the right sweetness for me. Can't wait to go back! P.S. The office loved it ! We cut the cookies into fourths so that everyone could try the varieties! Yum!

Levain used to be really good. Now the cookies are just so so. They are smaller. More expensive. And they don't "hit" like they used to. They used to be more oohwy gooey inside but recently they were dry. Maybe I got a bad batch?

Levain's is an Upper West Side institution with the most delicious big cookies ever. The cookies have the perfect texture, crispy on the outside and warm a gooey on the inside. My favorite here is the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip. Sometimes they have new flavors available for a limited time and it's always delicious, especially when it has dark chocolate (my favorite!). They even have a gluten free options.

Levain first timer here. I went with the regular chocolate chip cookie with no nuts. I'm sorry but I'm not a fan. It was way too thick and heavy. Clearly I'm in the minority here.

Hard to go wrong with a levain cookie! My favorite is the original. We came during the ice cream collab and it was very good! Quick service and nice vibes in UWS.

I was super excited to try Levain's cookies so I ordered the chocolate walnut one on day one of my trip, only to be sorely disappointed by a rock hard, mediocre cookie. My sister's rocky road one was similarly bad, and we left with a decent mocha and ice latte, but crushed hopes in terms of the cookies. We went to the original location and had a great double chocolate chip cookie so maybe it's this location, or maybe it's the type of cookie, regardless this experience was subpar. I have to give kudos to the service however, the person who packed our four drinks showed a lot of care by asking if we wanted stickers to seal the lids, and how far we were going to walk with them, and whether we wanted our drinks to be left open to drink while we brought the additional ones to family. Truly exceptional and considerate service, and what brought this 3 star rating to a 4.

I may be getting my upper West side locations confused but I recently just tried the Levain and Café Panna combo and it was delicious. I love the ice cream with the original chocolate walnut cookie.

A cute tiny little shop with a few small tables to sit in and enjoy your cookie. It was not too busy and crowded and line went by fast. I got the chocolate chip cookie and it tastes so much better fresh! I used to have this shipped to me as my craving was so strong, but man does it tastes so much better when eaten right outside their store. If you love a chunky cookie that is gooey in the middle, this one's for you!

This was on my list to visit for great cookies in NY. Being from California I wasn't used to the thickness and texture of these cookies. Our friend bought 4 cookies. They were good but not what I'm used to. My favorites were the chocolate chip and lemon.

I'm not a cookie person, so this review is largely courtesy of my better half. Firstly, you know how even if everything else is perfect, you tend to remember the one thing that didn't go as well? The person who helped us forgot the lemon cake. Luckily I checked the bag but only after we walked all the way back to the car but before getting on the road. I went back to claim the lemon cake I'd already paid for. The person recognised and apologised and I got my lemon cake. Now the cookies. They're sweet. Very sweet. I did have a few bites of several of their cookies a few years back when they had only one location, and remember enjoying them, although they weren't so good that it turned me into a cookie person. I hope they keep improving and do well.

You have to go in person to join the waitlist, and the staff will not seat you unless your full party is there. It is always fun going on the weekend because they have specialty menu items. The food is consistently tasty and served very quickly. A few highlights include: - Banh Chung | Crispy Rice Cake: A solid starter to share among two to four people. The texture is chewy with a light crispiness on the outside. There is also a vegetarian option. - Vegetarian Curry: A savory yellow curry made with a coconut milk base. Really appreciate the variety of seasonal vegetables included. - Bun Ca Hai Phong | Fried Fish and Tomato Noodle Soup: Highly recommend getting this during the weekend! A nice alternative to the typical meat-based dishes. The tilapia is lightly fried, so the tomato broth does not become overly heavy, and the dill helps cut through any extra oil to balance out the flavors. - The beef noodle soups are also very good, but are more classic options. The rice platters are great to share since the portions are generously sized. The staff are always friendly and helpful throughout the meal. Service is very fast, especially considering the restaurant has always been full.

The inside was cute and cozy - a true mom and pop shop. When we left, the whole family showed up and was eating together which was super cute. For the food, I would say skip the pho - it was okay. But the bun thit nuong was pretty good!! The fish sauce was a little on the sweeter side but with the egg rolls, the noodles, and the grilled pork, it was so fresh and delicious. It's one of my favorite Viet dishes and it didn't disappoint. The viet iced coffee was also pretty good for New York! I want to come back to try their banh mí!
