Oh no! I'm afraid I don't understand the hype! To be totally fair, this is a review for a DoorDash order, so I did not have the full magical experience. What I do know is delivery was fast yet misleading. The app shares by default you will receive two cookies but I only received one. No big deal, how many cookies does one person need! I just don't like paying for two and receiving one :/ Ultimately, the chocolate chip is not my preferred texture and taste. This place has been the most recommended cookie place to me in the world. Not to mention, it's not only recommended, some of those who have recommended it get nostalgic thinking about the cookies they've eaten here. Unfortunately, this is not an establishment I think I'll be going to again. The decor was nice, standard cookie cutter design (pun intended). The staff were friendly, and recommended which cookies they liked (we ended up getting a chocolate chip cookie with walnuts, and a dark double chocolate chip cookie). We also got a baguette with butter and jam, which was very good. I don't remove stars or over judge based on others perceptions, so I'm just removing them for where they should be lost on their own merit. The first star is for price compared to size. An almost $6 cookie should be almost 1.5X the size of these in the state of New York (I think $4 would make sense). The other star I'm taking off (the most important) is the taste. I'm a big sweets guy, and I do thoroughly enjoy them so. These cookies were just ok. They were not good, but not bad either, nothing to elevate the flavor (a pinch of salt would have gone a long way). I do still recommend everyone make up their own mind, but, try one cookie, and then decide if you want to buy more (I was going to buy a dozen before we ate two, and changed our mind). read more

AMAZING the best cookies I've ever had! I will dream about them every day of my life. The new lemon cookie they have is scrumptious and I wish I had an endless supply of it. The walnut one was also super yum, but I think the lemon was my favourite of the two. The cookie outer layer is quite hard, with a very soft inside. I found this very enjoyable but if my mouth had cuts in it (ulcers etc) might be a little uncomfortable. The price is a little high but nothing crazy, at around 5.5 for each cookie. On my last trip to NYC, my boss highly recommended that I try out the famous Levain Bakery. Since we found ourselves close by after a stroll through Central Park, we decided to come visit their Amsterdam location in the Upper West Side. Upon arriving, this tiny location was infamously packed with people. The situation inside was crowded, and very much a controlled chaos. With multiple people taking orders behind the counter to keep the line flowing. We of course grabbed one of their famous chocolate chip cookies, as well as a brioche with chocolate chips. Both at a price point of $5 ea. While the gooey cookie was decent, we honestly both enjoyed the brioche significantly more. And agreed that both items would have been better if they had served it warm/toasted. Overall, we liked their famous chocolate chip cookie, but didn't feel like it justified the price tag. read more

When I came to visit New York, Levain was definitely on my list and it did not disappoint! Luckily I was able to get up early and buy it before going on my flight back home. When you walk into the store, you get an amazing aroma of freshly baked cookies! The staff was really nice and explained to me the options for buying and packaged nicely while I waited. I love popping by this UWS Levain because the servers are so friendly, it's a cute little shop, and the line is wayyy shorter than the OG a few blocks down the street. As a pioneer of the Goliath of cookies, Levain's colossal cookies have become a culinary landmark of NYC. I have been trying to come but have been dragging Inside was bright with adorable mural. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable - I was having hard time deciding the flavors and she made it even harder cuz her descriptions made everything sound great! Haha Overall the cookies are gigantic and so thick that they are almost spherical! Very thin crispy/crunchy layer on top with loads of softer/cakey/smooth center. Tried 5 flavors (June 2023): Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookie: this is my favorite! Loaded with shredded coconut and chocolate chips, full of flavors and different textures. Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie: The OG most popular flavor, and for a good reason - the melted chocolate chip compliment the walnut perfectly both flavor wise and texture wise. Rocky road cookie: A new flavor and they're definitely rocking it! Very chocolaty with a lot marshmallow and almond slices. A bit too sweet for my liking though (imho it's already pretty sweet from the marshmallows, so probably scale back on sugar in the dough would make it better). Dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie: very chocolatey and PB-y, need I say more? My friend brought me here for post Thai food treat. I am sure I have passed by many other locations and never even noticed this Bakery. There is no dine in or anything going on at this location, so order and peace out. Ordering was pretty easy. I already read some reviews ahead of time and seen the menu. I got the chocolate chip walnut and an oatmeal raisin cookie + bottle of water. My friend got similar + more for her kinfolks at home. I was only able to eat half of the chocolate chip walnut cookie so I saved the rest for next day. The cookie is bulky and "sweet" is an understatement. It's best if eaten warm so you may want to start eating right after you buy it. Or at least warm it up. I didn't like the oatmeal raisin as much. Someone call California, I think I know where all their raisins went... Inside my cookie. I basically picked them all out. Also the oatmeal cookie was already incredibly sweet that the raisins just made it insanely too sweet. Anyway I preferred the chocolate chip walnut, which was also insanely sweet, but something about warm melty chocolate chips made that experience more palatable. If you like cookies...get yourself some cookies here I guess. I am between 3star and 4 stars because while it's a good cookie... I need not induce my body to release more insulin unnecessarily. i don't know how i had not heard about this bakery prior to this visit, i was shopping at the grand bazaar market which is right around the corner and a local artist that i had met there recommended that i check it out. i honestly had forgotten about the recommendation till my friends had stopped by right next door to use the restrooms. so while they did that i went inside to get a few cookies since there wasn't even a line. the service is extremely quick the cookies are already made and mine were actually still warm! the line grew soooo long. they definitely are a crowd favorite. All their cookies are $4.50, which may sound a liiiittle pricey, but when you see how hefty these cookies are, $4.50 is like a steal! Chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, dark chocolate peanut butter chip, two chip chocolate chip, and gluten-free chocolate chip walnut!! I'm not a big oatmeal raisin person, so I definitely preferred the chocolate chip ones over the others. The dark chocolate peanut butter chip can be a bit much in one go (actually, almost all of them are), so it's best to share one to avoid getting dessert coma! Service was excellent the two times we visited on our trip and they were great in making sure we got our correct orders and helped pack them nicely. If you have a big sweet tooth you must come here! I prefer the dark chocolate since it's so thick and rich and sweet compared to the regular chocolate chip. Both were good though. But for sure, everyone will say that they want one that taste amazing.  Some how Levain's Bakery has managed to make their cookies with a crunchy outside while the inside is nice and chewy and I swear, it is one of, if not, the BEST tasting cookies I've ever tasted.  Trust me, I've tasted tons of cookies.  I even brought some back to Hawaii to give them to some I consider cookie experts.  For the select few that got the chance to taste them, they said and I quote, "when is the next time I'm going back to get more?" "Wow, they use the best ingredients," "I only wanted to eat half as it was a pretty big cookie, but I couldn't stop eating it." "It's deceivingly heavy and gooey inside," "best tasting cookie!"  Those were just some of the things my friends told me about the cookies.   If you are debating about standing inline, or you can't picture yourself spending money on a cookie...
