At $3.45 for a cheese slice, it's quite pricey, even for this neighborhood and nyc in general ( $3 at Garlic and $2.75 at most others). That said though, it's a quality classic NYC style cheese slice and definitely distinguishable from the $1-2 pizza slices around the city that use cheaper sauces and cheeses. The dough is perfect in its pillowy yet crispy balance - if you're into pizza crusts, you know what I mean. The tomato sauce is more on the salty side, can barely taste the tinge of sweetness, so take note if you prefer sweeter sauces. Good amount of cheese on the slice. Would come back if I were hungry and didn't want to walk any further. I have to say though, compared to Garlic pizza on 2nd Ave or Lunettas on 20th street, this sauce lacks complexity of flavor. To celebrate the New Year, we ended up getting a ton of pasta as well as some calamari! We also got some free garlic knots due to our order being over $21 as well as some bread slices as well. Garlic knots: In hindsight, I think I would have paid for these because these were fire! The bread was so fluffy and had the perfect amount of garlic and herbs in them. Bread: This was kind of questionable? It was a bit too airy for me, and the sesame seeds seemed mismatched for this type of bread. We ended up throwing this away as soon as we took a bite. Calamari: I feel like sometimes calamari from Italian restaurants can either be a hit or miss, but this was delicious! Surprisingly the rounder pieces tasted more delicious than the super crispy ones that look more like squid. Adding the lemon also made the calamari delicious as well! Spaghetti Bolognese: This was probably the best pasta according to my husband! This was such a classic having spaghetti pasta paired with ground-up meat sauce. It tasted super home-y and comforting! Fettuccine Alfredo: This pasta was the one I thought would taste the best, but was actually my least favorite. It was super creamy, but that was the only substance this pasta had. Drowning something in creamy sauce doesn't necessarily make it flavorful. This one came with a ton of sausage, which was a positive on this pasta. Pesto Pasta: The pesto pasta was probably my favorite out of all of the pasta choices! It didn't feel too heavy and felt super easy to eat. This one also came with a ton of sausage, which paired well with the pesto! Overall, we had such a great experience with Libretto's! So I was down about 20 blocks south and had a couple of those "famous" slices from a well known place. And sure, it was thin, but the slice was quite dry and overall just ok. So I'm driving up third, and I remember LIbretto's and I pull over to compare. They were almost closing so not too much of a selection but I asked for a regular slice. The guy quickly put it in the over, and when he handed it to me, I took my first bite. Now remember, I just had two "famous" slices from another place but when I took a bit of this slice, I was blown away about how quintessential of a slice it was. The crust had a nice crunch, there was more sauce and slightly more cheese with a nice chew to it. Really, it was night and day. The slice at Libretto was so much more flavorful and satisfying. Without a doubt, one of the best slices I've had in awhile, and I eat a LOT of pizza. So if you're looking for an excellent slice that beats even the "famous" shops, this is the place! read more

Love this place. My company caters lunch for staff on Fridays and of course PIZZA is every ones favorite. In mid town south its easy to find a pizzeria but not so easy to find a good tasting one. We found Libretto's through one of our colleagues, Blerta. The whole order process was very simple. The girl who took the order, Adriana, was very nice and helpful. Gave us many ideas on what to feed a party of 30. The delivery was on time so food was still hot. Everything was delicious but what stood out was the Alla Vodka Pizza. It was the first to go. Some of the staff are on KETO and ordered the cauliflower pizza. it was a HUGE hit! Highly recommended and cant wait for our next staff lunch read more

Even if it weren't ostensibly across the street from my apartment, I'd go there for the Grandma pizza. This is not on the takeout menu and it's not always there. And if it is, the crust is chewy, soft, crispy, and made from great dough with fresh mozz, great (salty!) sauce and fresh basil. They also do thin crust extremely well, dare I say better than Pizza 33 down the street - Libretto crust never has that dusty, sat-out-too-long taste. And they have fountain soda. Originally, my review was two stars saying that the food was not good- very cheap ingredients for a place charging this much. Truly not good. Now, my review is scathing. I have celiac disease. I wrote "please be sure you pepperoni is Gluten Free- I'm not a hippy. I'm a celiac." Yeh, it wasn't GF and they gave it to me. After praying to the porcelain god for 30min, I rang them. Utterly USELESS staff all around. The manager asked me "what kind of pepperoni I could have".... Um duh. The Gluten Free kind! (Cheap pepperoni often uses wheat as a filler- ONLY THE VERY CHEAP ONES). He started a sentence with 'You should have" before I LAID into him. One REALLY cannot be more specific than, "please be sure your pepperoni is Gluten Free... I am a celiac." They didn't read the allergy notes- I mean, who would order GF if they weren't celiac? Seriously. Clearly, the order needed some special attention. Seriously, not good food, terrible staff. Utterly horrific experience. I'll be sick for weeks. They have a responsibility to take care. This is about as bad as it gets for a vegetarian. I ordered from here tonight, there were so many other restaurants closed on Christmas, I thought I would take a chance on Libretto's. Even though I have lived in the neighborhood most of my life, I have never eaten at Libretto's - now I know why! I ordered what should have been a very simple dish for them, their Eggplant Parmigiana Entree, and for an extra $5.00 I substituted Broccoli Rabe for pasta. But what they delivered was a total mess. Instead of Eggplant, they gave me two very sad looking pieces of chicken breast with a little melted mozzarella and some tomato sauce ON TOP OF a massive quantity of Broccoli Rabe. Being a vegetarian, I could not eat any of this mess. Fortunately, eat24 immediately refunded me. Looking at some of the other reviews, I see that Libretto's does not seem to have any real idea what they are doing with delivery. Went again last night, got a eggplant parm slice and a whatever the technical name is for a margherita square (grandma's maybe?). I usually order eggplant parm because it seems like a good choice for a vegetarian, doesn't eggplant have like, protein or something? Why else would it be a substitute for chicken? Anyways, despite the fact that it's breaded and deep fried, it seems like something I should get to break up the monotony of the classic cheese. I usually regret it afterwards because I don't enjoy it that much but because i'm retarded, I keep getting it. So I tried it last night. Here's the thing: it was DELICIOUS. Easily the best eggplant parm slice I've ever had. Libretto's......how I love thee. It seems the shops and restaurants along 3rd avenue in the 30s have been around for years, while many shops and restaurants in the rest of the city tend to have a lot of changeover. Libretto's on 36th and 3rd is no exception, and there's good reason for it. While I've come for dinner before, it's okay...but their lunch special is not to be argued with. It's one of those tried and true mainstays that is always a great experience. Margaret, who generally works Mondays and Fridays knows her stuff, always provides attentive service, and is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. Try the Rigatoni alla vodka - Libretto's alla vodka sauce is decadent. The Chicken Marsala is my personal favorite - with just the right amount of flavor, mushrooms and pasta, it's out of this world. Lunch always includes a side salad, complete with mixed greens, Parmesan cheese, tomatoes, and a light vinegarette. I also tried the garlic knots for the first time this visit, which were super doughy and so flavorful. Here's to hoping that Libretto's will continue to put smiles on many faces for years to come. read more

This is really good! So worth the walk from the west side to the east side! My bf insisted on eating here and kept commenting on how great the food is. He's been here many times since he moved into NYC and for some reasons he says food is awesome on Wednesdays and Fridays. So lucky me, it's Good Friday and I am off!! The choice was pasta or Fogo de Chao...I can see how many would say: "What???". We hurried over to get the may raved plate rigatoni a la vodka and now I understand why! The sauce was pretty thick, with pieces of fresh tomato and other spices. Maybe I am crazy but I feel like it tasted a bit like mayo... and I love mayo so no problem there! The plate comes with no meat but I added some strips of breaded chicken and was good to go! Each of the lunches also includes a bread basket and a fresh salad but that didn't stop me from ordering some garlic knots! When in Italy, get garlic knots! All three were pretty awesome side dishes to my meal. I honestly saw the value and worth for the meal. We also ordered the chicken marsala and it was quite delicious and had plenty of mushroom. Service was pretty quick and very nice. This is a great place to come any day for a great lunch, but beware, as delicious it is, it is also pretty heavy... I have been laying down for a few hours to regain the energy to write this review! :) I would not say this is a perfect date spot, maybe missing some charm in decor, but the food was darn good and the price was on point so who cares! read more

Also if you buy two slices, you get a free medium-size fountain soda. That's the good news. Unfortunately, the pizza is unremarkable and completely forgettable. Nothing distinguishes it from hundreds of other so-so slices you can get in the NYC area. After getting into New York late at night on a weekday, we walked around looking for some grub. We wanted something quick and cheap, and after walking past a few places that seemed okay but we weren't into, we found Libretto's. We figured pizza would be most fitting for our first meal in NYC. We just wanted to grab a slice each and both ended up with pepperoni and mushroom. It was heated up/toasted in the stone oven while we grabbed a couple bottles of beer from the fridge. The pizza was perfect - thin and crispy, flavorful but not too salty, and a few shakers of Italian herbs, pepper, Parmesan, chilli flakes, garlic, and some olive oil for putting on yourself, if you please. The guy at the counter was really nice, service was fast, and the prices were affordable. It was very popular with people both sitting in, grabbing a slice to go, and picking up takeout pizza orders. However on the comments section I specifically instructed the "Plain Cheese Pie Only to be cut in 16ths" for our kids but they ended up doing the same for our New Yorker pie which has a lot of toppings. Both pizzas were good but not remarkable. Our kindergarten kids seemed to approve their cheese slice. On the otherhand, the New Yorker was a bit on the soggy side and since it was cut into smaller slices it didnt help that the toppings kept falling off. Also had the Angel Hair Bolognese which was good but again nothing remarkable. This was my experience and overall, as a Murray Hill resident, I would still be interested to have a dine-in experience with my kids with a fresh slice, so that is on my to-do list. I found this place by chance, I was searching for a restaurant that deliver food near me. I ordered a balsamic chicken (2 boneless breast) come with a side (u choose it) I picked salad.
