Libretto's has pretty good NY style pizza. I've been here a few times and always got a good quality slice, served hot and fresh. The sauce is tasty, the crust is thin but firm, and the cheese is luxurious without being oily. They also get points for having a very comfortable dining area (with heaps of spices on each table) and a squeaky clean bathroom. Worth stopping by if you get a chance. read more

Ugh, I really don't know why I order from here. The delivery always takes forever and when it comes I have to reheat the pizza in the oven -- really, for an $18 pizza I shouldn't have to reheat. I ordered meatball on my pizza but whatever they put on it definitely didn't taste or look like a meatball. There was also barely any cheese on the last pizza I ordered. Sad, new owners are ruining it. It's really gone down hill. Generally the pizza just sits under the lights. The dinner portions are way too too small for the price. It's just not authentic anymore. The waiter service is mandatory if you don't want a pizza slice and the waiter dude was downright rude to us. It was like we were bothering him. This is absolutely the best pizza I have had in a long time!!!! We started with Caesar salad which was good. The New Yorker pizza was great as was the meatball parm sub. They forgot our broccoli rabe but I'm so full on amazing food I didn't even care. It was THAT good. I normally wouldn't give a 5 star if something is forgotten, but the server was otherwise so attentive and we honestly cannot fit another thing in our bellies. We are full and happy! I got delivery from here a few nights ago and it must have been the worst pizza I've ever had. I got a buffalo chicken slice and the chicken was incredibly dry. The slice had barely any cheese or sauce and overall tasted like stale, dry garbage. There are definitely better pizzerias in the area, would NOT recommended this place. read more

Ah, damn. No one told me Libretto's had this delicious pizza going for it, so I had the pasta lunch special. Now I have to go back next week with a co-worker and split a pie. Regardless, it was a very pleasing midtown lunch. For $7.50 (+tip/tax) my lunch date and I opted for a pasta dish, a fountain soda, and a side salad. Both my partner's and mine sodas were flat and syrupy. The waitress tasted some on her own, agreed, and gave us cans. The side salads were nice-sized portions of microgreens covered in a tasty dressing and a big square of parmesan cheese. My rigatoni a la vodka was decent. It's hard to mess up vodka sauce, but even harder to serve a crazy good one. Served with a small loaf of bread and butter, it was a pleasing, tasty lunch. Libretto's has a large pizza counter, but the back of the restaurant looks and feel like an Italian bistro more than a pizza place. There are wood booths large enough for groups of four but intimate for a twosome. It wasn't too crowded when we ate at 1pm on a Tuesday afternoon, but a few couples were also happily eating on other sides of the room. All in all, Libretto's is a nice midtown lunch spot. While my actual dish wasn't phenomenal, the ambiance, value, and service more than made up for average vodka sauce. Recommended for a good lunch in midtown / murray hill. PS: I WILL be back for the pizza. Update to follow. ****UPDATE**** Went in for pizza today -- a slice of plain margherita, and a slice of pepperoni. The plain was decent, nice crunch on the crust and ample cheese. Nothing too special, so I was slightly disappointed. The pepperoni really let me down. Pretty good pizza - grandma's is my fave ($3.50 a slice). Lasagna was so-so.. very average for $9.99 (including a salad and drink). I've yet to try the pastas but they look good... that'll be the next thing I try the next time I'm here. They also have a nice seating area where you can just order your pizza at the counter and have a seat without having to pay for table service. If you're having a serious pizza craving and thought you'd stop by Libretto's to scratch that itch, DON'T. The variety of pies are very tempting - they have all kinds of neoclassical toppings like BBQ chicken and Hawaiian. I got myself a pepperoni mushroom pizza. It was - dare I say, bland? The bread was a tad too thick, and the toppings were just not very flavorful. I found myself grinding some garlic salt I had at home to make it palatable. I would advise you to walk a few more blocks to Brick Oven 33 where they have crisp yet foldable slices and perfectly stretchy and melty cheese. read more

Libretto's is my go to pizza restaurant near my office. They sell the usual Italian food but all I have ever eaten there is the pizza. It is small but has nice ambience. Like many New Yorkers entering a pizza joint I scope out the slice pies on offer to try to figure out which ones have recently come out of the oven before making my selection. This is a scientific process that entails close study of the condition of cheese, crust and peperoni. Libretto's has pretty rapid turnover of pies so usually you wont get a bad slice. As far as pizza goes it is better than average in the Murray Hill area. There are far worse and few better. Some nearby establishments seem to sell pizza that was made when Bloomberg was still the mayor. The crust is nice and thin and the ingredients are fine. My big grievance with the place is there is a waitress who insists on putting "reserved" signs on just about every table in the place in an effort to block tables from the lowly slice eaters. This results in people being crowded together in the few open tables she has not bestowed with a sign or ultimately forced to get take out . Last winter during a snowstorm, she still had all of these dopey signs out when my colleague and I were the only customers and it was obvious the crowds were not rushing the place for a slice. It is just annoying and unwelcoming. If she had a reservations for these tables, I would have eaten my shoe!!! It is just overkill and should be significantly toned down if not eliminated. Advice to Libretto's: Get rid of 90% of the stupid "reserved" signs for unreserved tables, the customers know what you are up to and don't like it! Tip: They give you a free slice after you buy ten. Libretto's is a great neighborhood joint due to its three key components: 1) excellent price to portion ration 2) friendly family staff 3) fresh, delicious pizza. Out of the Murray Hill pizza places, this one seems to be the best (well, at least a tie with Pizza 33) at consistently having fresh hot pizzas, whereas some other places only seem to have older pies with coagulated cheese and cold, unappealing toppings....but I always can find a delicious looking slice here. The garlic knots are very delicious as well - they have a strong garlic kick, so be prepared. Prices are totally reasonable, my usual order of two slices and garlic knots is only around $5. The only slice I've tried that I wasn't so crazy about was their eggplant parm - it just wasn't as crisp as it should have been. The cheese slice is a solid standout with a thin soft crust that isn't overwhelmed by too much of the delicious mozzarella. They also have a choice selection of homemade desserts and gelatos! read more

Libretto's take-out menu says, "They know how to make pizza." While technically that is true, it doesnt state anything about the quality of that pizza. That's why I'm here to tell you, it aint' good. Very bland and flavorless, with a slightly underdone crust, and not enough sauce (and what sauce there was, was also flavorless). If you're from Iowa, Kentucky, Vermont, Florida, New Mexico or any of the other numerous states completely devoid of anything resembling an actual pizza, you might not mind this place. read more

Unremarkable. Pizza wasn't bad but I couldn't separate this pizza and a pizza from, say, Sbarro. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was inconveniencing the staff - the pizza guy, excluded. There was a girl behind the register who was counting money, didn't even acknowledge my presence and when I asked her for a soft drink from the fridge behind her, she looked at me, sighed and reluctantly got it.
