Stopped by in the late morning to get a Pandan cake for my friend's birthday. The workers were incredibly nice and pleasant to interact with. While she was dealing with a lot of other customers in line because they were so busy, she handed me a free bakery item to snack on while I waited for her to decorate the cake and write my friend's name on it. I had a really nostalgic experience here the other day! I hadn't been here in around 20 years(since childhood), but I decided to stop in with my partner to get some sandwiches. My parents used to work at/frequent a salon next door years ago. Service at the bakery was excellent and the same person still works there helping guests. She even gave us some free beignets. Went here out of recommendation from my aunt that the cake is good by Vietnamese standards aka "not too sweet; just right and moist". She was right! I first wanted a custom cake and they gave me a quote within 5 min (if you can provide inspo images) but it was out of my budget which is fine; I understand the effort for custom cake. So Here's what I'd recommend to stay within budget. 1. Speak Vietnamese if you could. They can speak English too but their native tongue allow them to work with you and give you more options. 2. Select their standard cake on display inside their fridge. I got a round cake that they said feed about 15 people ended up feeding about 35.. lol. But extra cake is never a problem! 3. Once you pick the one you like ask them to switch up basic color and flavor. Remember to keep it simple and not "customized". So my original cake was pandan flavor with green frosting. I asked for mixed berry with blue frosting. Tell them your event/theme. Sometimes they ended up making it so cute for you! Mine was gender reveal and standard cake just had flowers but they ended up adding tiny baby bottles for decor and I thought it was so personal and made me feel special. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Turn around time was quick. Less than 48 hours from ordering time. Mixed berries were fresh. Cake was moist. Frosting wasn't too sweet. Decor was on point. My hubby and I decided to give this place a try.Parking was easy. The first thing that hit us immediately was the strong smell of cigarette smoking coming to the doors. Thought smoking in public places had been banned in CA. There were lots of dessert choices besides the beignets( the reason we wanted to try), all looked very attractive. We ordered two bánh mì and beignets. The baguettes were rather dry, not crispy on the crust and chewy on the inside. The fillings were wet due to excessive mayo and pickles, not much meat. Lily's Bakery is a small shop that makes cakes, pastries, and desserts. They also serve a variety of different coffees and drinks, but I come specifically for their iced Vietnamese coffee and beignets. Their Vietnamese coffee is probably one of the best in the area; it's really strong and a great price. The beignets are comparable to beignets in New Orleans, which is incredible. I've never found beignets anywhere else that I love more or ones that can even compare to New Orleans beignets. The employees are generally very friendly, and they seem to recognize their regulars. And the vibe in the store is great as well. It's a great place to sit at a table with friends while sipping on coffee and hang out. The only bad things are that there is a credit card minimum and the parking lot is small and generally full. But on my last visit, I completely forgot that there was a credit card minimum, but I was still allowed to pay with my card even without hitting the minimum, which I thought was really nice. Was spending the day in the general OC area & intended to get my favorite Vietnamese Coffee at Yummy Bakery but decided to try a new place since it was more local to where lunch was. ITEM'S ORDERED: Debated on getting some baked goods to try but me & the gf were going to Brodards so I just got the Vietnamese Coffee as I had planned. TASTE: The coffee had a pretty good strength which is what I always like. But it still seemed to be lacking some of that nice depth I love in a good dark roast coffee. I feel this could of been because they dripped the coffee too fast or maybe just the type of coffee bean they use. In any case it was not my favorite but also not terrible by any means & I imagine many people would be happy with this coffee. The sweetness was pretty light which is what I like so that worked out well. The ice was not crushed ice which is my favorite so that was a little bit of a letdown if I'm being petty. SERVICE & PARKING: Service was fine especially since they were so busy on Saturday. We ordered pretty much ASAP when we walked in & the coffee was ready quite quickly. Parking was easy & we parked right in front of the place. There's a pretty big lot providing parking to all the businesses in this larger shopping plaza. Be careful driving since it's quite busy here with cars entering/exiting because of all the businesses. This place is located in Little Saigon Village right in the front. Since I didn't really care for the coffee I probably wouldn't return for it but I'm not opposed to trying some baked goods since the place seems pretty popular. read more

Everything here is amazing. From the moment we enter the place, we were greeted with a warm smile and were offered pretty much everything in there to try. We just ate Pho so we were pretty full but the ladies(did not get their names) insisted that we try it. She let us try the empanadas, and several other bakery goods. It was so delicious even on a full stomach. We came to Lily bakery because a few weeks ago, we were at our cousin gathering and my kids ate this ham sandwich which they love so much. Ever since, they ask if we ever go down to Westminster, please stop by and get them this sandwich(mind you it's 33 miles from where we lived). There are 2 sandwiches in a box and cost $5, it comes with a perfectly bake roll or croissant with ham and lettuce. We end up getting 7 boxes. Lily bakery also has cakes, variety of drinks as well. I found Lily's Bakery when looking for a bakery that had beignets for a work lunch, but also open after I got off of work, and I'm so glad I did! The location is unassuming and simple, but the staff is very welcoming and extremely helpful. The cafe was clean and had both indoor and outdoor seating. She helped get me set with the 3 dozen beignets, and a great hazelnut iced coffee, made right in front of you. She also threw in a pork bun pastry that was perfect for my drive home! I "tested" one of the beignets before the lunch and they were great! Light, fluffy, and perfectly sprinkled with powdered sugar. They went over great at the office, and while it's far from where I live, I've been sharing this experience everywhere. This is a very authentic old school Vietnamese bakery and coffee shop. I personally loved the vibe, the chairs outside, older locals reading a paper and smoking up a storm, catching up with friends, old school charm I can appreciate. On my last review I made fun of a place for being a beginners guide to Vietnamese food. When I walked in here I felt like I needed to be educated on Vietnamese food. I don't come out to this area often so I never really got to experience full spectrum of Vietnamese cuisine. My experience is limited to pho, bun, banh mi, nem nuong cuon, and com. The items here seem like they are from different part or different category of Vietnamese food. Pastry items were in English so I didn't have any trouble with them, but I didn't understand anything on the menu behind the counter. My wife and I decided to come here at the last minute and didn't have a chance to read any of the Yelp reviews or tips for recommendation. We just ended up pointing to items on display and ordered the Combo Plate Breakfast, the only item we knew how to pronounce on the menu. We still didn't know what this came with when we placed the order. We just took a chance on it. The Combo Plate Breakfast took about 12 minutes to prepare and serve. While I was waiting for the dish, one of the ladies behind the counter gave me two sample items to try while I was waiting. I think they were beignets. I thought that was a cool gesture, especially in this area. The plate came with some deli meat, pâté, meatball (I think), baguette, fried egg, and some pickled veggies. The presentation looked nice but the portion was kind of small (like European portion). We weren't sure whether we were suppose to eat everything separately or make it into a sandwich with the baguette. We thought it was ok but not all that interesting. It was kind of pricey at $9.75. We actually preferred the pre-made beef sandwich that was on the display. It was similar to other banh mi sandwiches I had in the past but I liked the creamy sauce on this sandwich. I have no idea what it was but it didn't taste like anything I had in the past. The bread was nice and soft. It was nothing like the ones you get at Lee's Sandwiches, where it's almost painful to eat because it's so damn hard and ends up hurting the roof of your mouth. We also tried some triangle-shaped, savory pastry filled with meat. I'm guessing it's just a meat pie. This was pretty good with a good proportion of meat filling to pastry dough. Hazelnut Latte was very strong and bitter. It was much stronger than any hazelnut coffee drink I had in the past. I actually liked it though. Most hazelnut based drinks I had in the past were way too sweet. It's located in Little Saigon Village with several other businesses so parking is quite a challenge. This place is also quite popular, judging from our first visit. The place was packed inside and out, and most of the customers were older Vietnamese men. read more

I was looking for a bakery that was open around 7 am and stumbled upon lilys. I ordered the fruit tart cake, cafe Su da, beignets and croissant sandwich. The coffee is strong. I was alert after taking a few sips. The beignets is delectable. It's sweet, fluffy and airy and priced just right. And the turkey and cheese croissant. Its simple and delicious. I had it for lunch and was craving more. As for the cake, I liked the pastry, sponge cake and fruits. What I did not like was the buttercream. yuck. I would have preferred light whipped cream. Lastly, if you are not a fan of second hand smoke, this place is not for you. I could smell the fumes inside the cafe. My husband and I have been going to Lily's for years and have always been a fan of their coffee. In fact, we always recommend this place to our friends and family to try out. However, I am so disappointed in their customer service yesterday. The beignets we purchased are usually very fresh, hot and fluffy but yesterday it was hard and old. I stopped by at 2 pm so I guessed it's been sitting their for awhile. I specially told the girl working there I'll take some if it's freshly made which she assured it was. I didn't initially think to make a fuss as this was the first time it tasted off but what really bothered me was the pack of character macaroons I bought for my daughter. It was hard as rock! We were parked in front of their shop when my 4 urs old daughter took a bite so I immediately took them back in to tell them if the macaroons were old as they were super hard. Not what a macaroon should taste like at all. The girl, along with the owner there, said it has more of a hard cookie consistency which was not true because Ive purchased them before and it was never this hard and stale. They refused to give me a refund for having only one piece of of macaroon bitten after I just walked out a minute ago. Not good business etnics IMO. I threw away that garage as I wont let my daughter eat bad food like that. It literally takes one ridiculous incident like this to lose a long time client. read more

I think their frosting technique should not have been used because it is too lightweight and does not stay in place! I asked to make it more heart shaped at the top because it looked squared. Pretty disappointing and below mediocre Beignets, huge in size, covered in powder sugar, smelled great, yet one bite was all it took to burst the bubble. Beignets are supposed to be light and airy, but the ones I got from here was dense, chewy, and bread-y. Yea there's a huge hollowed air pocket in the middle due to the puff up of the dough, but does nothing to make the beignet itself airy and tasty. I bought two dozen, 12 original 12 specialty. The specialty is just the original plus a vanilla sauce, the sauce is good though! If you want good beignets, I'd say nope to this place. ***Banh Mi Trung Chien and Cafe Sua Da on a Sunday Morning**** Somethings in life just go really well together. For me, Banh Mi and Cafe Sua da got me through high school and my undergrad. I do not think I have had banh mi without cafe sua da in at least 25 years. I stopped by Lily's today..not for the cakes and not for the beignet I am reading about on yelp, but for a simple banh mi trung chien and cafe sua da for me and the little one. Yes, a comfort breakfast for me. Today was nostalgic to say the least. It was perfect and brought back memories from 15 years ago and longer. Nobody even uses the term "Bolsa" any longer except the oldies. Back in the day, if we were going to "Westminster" it meant we were eating Cambodian/Chinese on Westminster Blvd. If we were going to "Bolsa" it meant Vietnamese for sure...especially true in my undergrad years. Banh mi was a buck and cafe sua da $1.25. Things are different. Quality seems to have gone down in Bolsa. Places like Lee's have McDonald-alized the homemade sandwhich. My last trip to Lily's was a bad experience (a couple of years back). The old Song Long is just a memory. I returned today. The best Banh Mi and Cafe sua da I have had in 15 years. The guy behind the register looked familiar so I asked him where Lily was. He said in the back. I doubt it. But I do believe it is still her business. ~Banh Mi Trung Chien (egg)-4.5 Stars Dang. Small and tiny and expensive at almost 3 bucks..but so dang good. Baguette was small but as if they just took it out of the oven. Small but perfect. Cafe Sua Da should not be stored premade all day! I ordered a second. Then I said screw it. I ordered something I have not ordered in years..straight up iced coffee BLACK. ~Cafe Da-5 Stars Not sure if this is what you call it but the guy knew what I meant. Straight Vietnamese slow drip black over ice and CAFFEINATED AS HELL. I can only drink this with GOOD coffee. This was it. First time in maybe 15 years I ordered this. Way better than with the condensed milk. Damn GOOD. No condensed milk and you get double the amount and double the caffeine. 3 iced coffees total and I was as high as a kite..even higher! ~Beignets-4 Stars Probably even better but mine were sitting there ready and boxed. You need to eat beignets right away. Anyways, they were good. I didn't come here for that or the cakes. I could careless. I was already coffee high and left the dang box on the roof of the ride. Figured it out before I left the parking lot. ~Summary Best dang Banh mi and Cafe I have had in years. I finished 2 cafe sua da and one cafe da, my banh mi trung chien and beignets by time I got home. The litlte one also finished her banh mi and helped with the beignets. I had a great breakfast and a grip load of nostalgia. I was glad to share it with the little one. She loved the sandwhich. I can't wait for next Sunday! My boyfriend and I came here for beignets and coffee on Sunday in the early afternoon. The woman at the front was very nice, she told my boyfriend that the beignets that they had out already had been sitting there for a while and that they were making fresh ones and if he could wait a few minutes and she would get us the fresh ones. We had also asked for extra powdered sugar, and he heard her asking making sure that the women in the back put extra powdered sugar on the beignets. They tasted amazing! Fluffy and delicious! Came by here this afternoon sometime after 2 pm with my husband after checking out the OC fair (opening day today). I had this place bookmarked because of the beignets and that they were pretty cheap. Well we arrived in the plaza and parked right in front of the place (Lily's Bakery is located in the same plaza as a market and also Bambu Desserts and Drinks). We entered in and I ordered 6 beignets (cost me $2.50 total). I was surprised to see that woman behind the counter pulling them out of a heated display case, which tells me they are not freshly made. I was getting ready to pull out my credit card and she said "no, cash". I asked her if she accepts credit card and she replied 'for $2.50?' in a rude tone and unfriendly look (well she had an unfriendly look since we came in there). I asked her what was the credit card minimum and she told me it was $12. Anyways, after I paid cash, I asked for a fork. She was eating cherries at the register the whole time she was helping me (with her fingers). She ignored me and walked away and so I had to get her attention again to get a fork. She grabbed the fork (the pointed side of the fork, not by the handle) with the same fingers she was eating the cherries with (and yep, licking her fingers with...eww, gross!). I threw the fork away and left the place and at the next eating establishment we went to, I got a clean fork there. I was sadly disappointed that I was right and that it wasn't fresh. The batter of it was rather chewy and beignets should be more so crispy and an easy chew. And it not being fresh makes a BIG difference in terms of taste.
