Oops, they did it again! So, about 20 days ago my friend and I had the pleasure of dining at Limena, and it was amazing (see previous review)! I was curious whether this experience would be as amazing, and it was, hence the Brittany quote. Although it is warm today, we sat outside under the yellow umbrellas and were once again transported to a place more exotic than Thousand Oaks Blvd, with piped in music that makes you dance in your seat! I had the Aji De Guallina dish, which is now my favorite and I had plenty left over to take home. Once again, we were greeted at the door by Ruben, the owner, whose smile makes you feel like family. A friend recommended this place so I had high expectations but I was disappointed by the food and portion size. I tried the lomo saltado which is my usual Peruvian favorite but when I opened my to go box, it looked like leftovers and half the amount I would get at other Peruvian restaurants. Did not seem worth the high price of $20. I also tried the pan con chicharron sandwich which was average. It was on the dry side but was better with the green sauce. The best part of the meal was the YUCA CON TRES SALSAS- I would come back for these as it was tasty, good combo of crunch on the outside and soft on the inside and the green sauce is the best with it. Luckily I found this restaurant and was very pleased to discover it is exactly like what I had in Peru, in fact it was even better than some places. Alright - Peruvian is one of my favorites. And whenever a new one opens up I can't wait to try their Pollo Saltado. We came in this evening. Ordered two. They took way too long to get it out of the kitchen. And... they gave ours to the couple that came in and ordered 10 minutes after us. So we had to wait another 20 minutes to get ours - which only made the very slow kitchen that more unbearable. Ok, new place,is takes happen. The owner apologized and offered a free dessert (which we didn't want but he tried). So why 1 Star? Because the slow service is the least of their problems. If you are a a Pollo Saltado fan like myself you would be shocked to see that the chicken is this pre-cut pre-frozen Tyson crap you can get at the market. It was overcooked and dry. The fried are obviously from a frozen bag as well. And the sauce is mediocre minus. Which makes me think, if you are not putting any effort into it and essentially using pre-cut, pre-packaged stuff - why in the world does it take 25 minutes to get your food? Actually, for someone else to get your food... (since we had to wait another 20 minutes to get ours...). Bottom line - don't waste your money - and more importantly, your time. Worst Pollo Saltado I ever had. Tasted like a TV dinner. For the same cost, and half the wait time, go to Mouthful (a block away) and get a legit Pollo Saltado. read more

First time I tried this Eatery in Thousand Oaks on Thousand Oaks Blvd. I had a lunch sandwich that was simply, delicious. Made to order with chicken, salami, cheese and a fried egg. While it sounds unusual (Maybe not in Peru), with a side green sauce of jalapeño and cilantro, it was excellent. I would definitely go back to try that sandwich again or something else on the menu. Never had Peruvian food previously, really enjoyed the dishes we had. Ambiance was not quite what we expected but glad we went.

It doesn't look like much, but the food here is *chefs kiss* I had the Chaufa with beef and rice and it was a delish stir fry. The green sauce (complimentary) goes really well with the dish. My husband and I tried some peru beers and they complimented the food well. The owner came out to check in our food, I love it when they do this. What i ordered was ok! Pollo a la brasa....uhm probably cumin with chicken, very high cumin flavor, but too much. I know how the real Pollo a la brasa supposed to test like, this one i give it 5 over 10. Then i have the ceviche..uhm...not my cup of tea, I'm the ceviche master, this one not even close to be on my top 50. Then, papa a la huancayina..uhm...the real flavor...not here! Delicious food! My husband is peruvian so our expectations every time we go to a peruvian restaurant are always high. This place did not disappoint! We had the Lomo Saltado and we had to order seconds because it was that good. We also had salchipapas and yuca a la huancaina. They were all delicious and the flavor was spot on. The lucuma ice cream for dessert was the best ending. They also have chicha morada and passion fruit juice in the peruvian version. The service was friendly and respectful and these days of coronavirus they were all wearing masks and every time other guests left there was someone disinfecting the tables.
