After a nice spa day with the family, we walked over to Local Foods for a quick lunch. My mom ordered the tofu party snacks to share, and I ordered the Gulf Seafood sandwich. Tofu Party Snacks - perfectly battered, very crispy, with a nice spicy and tart sauce on top. The pineapples were a nice addition to this dish as well to give it a little extra acidic pop. Gulf Seafood sandwich - I'm not generally a fan of Ciabatta bread because I find there's always too much of it in a sandwich! However, there was enough crab and shrimp in my salad to balance out the sandwich ratio. The seafood sandwich tasted quite fresh and I really enjoyed it. Overall, service here was quick, food was tasty, and there was plenty of indoor seating (and a little outdoor seating for those willing to brave the heat). Nice spot! read more

To begin with, probably only because of my taste buds that aren't that fond of this style of food am I giving 4 stars. If I was more a fan of this style of food, I would give 5 stars. I ordered some sort of crunchy chicken sandwich on what looks like a pretzel roll. I must admit that the "pretzel" roll was delicious. Very fresh, just a little crunch on the outside, and melt in your mouth. The chicken and other ingredients were fresh and hand made. It came with Chicken Posole soup. I don't know what half the ingredients were. But once again, fresh and homemade and great taste. The strangest part was the beverage. I won't even try to describe it. Terrible experience last night with the crunchy chicken salad. Me and my girlfriend ordered for delivery and we both got food poisoning so bad that we were constantly throwing up and had liquid diarrhea all night/day. We had ordered before they close so I'm not sure if their employees got irritated by that and did something to the food, but I will not recommend this to anyone. What rubbed me the wrong way about this place was how unpolished the food was - multiple orders of the avo toast were almost inedible after being burnt. Not to mention that there was a scarce amount of actual avocado on both ($14 toast btw). The ambiance was nice though! Easy 5 stars, I've tried almost everything on the menu and you really can't go wrong. A couple of callouts *I thought the chips were delicious but some may find them under salted. I like them that way because people can always add more salt, but you can't really take salt away. *The quinoa burger is a true veggie patty. Don't expect something like an Impossible burger that is trying to imitate meat and uses quinoa as a binder. This is more of a burger style vegetable patty sandwich, still pretty great. It did not come with much salmon and to add extra salmon was an additional $15. Not much flavor, very basic. All the quinoa and ingredients filled up maybe half the container. Got the egg truffle sandwich as well which was OK, it was cold, the sandwich pretzel bread was OK, little too salty, and not worth $17 total. The apple and cranberry side was a let down. I really enjoyed this place. The environment is really clean and feels comfortable. I ordered the Baja Shrimp Cesar Salad and I am in love! It had everything I look for in a simple but healthy salad. The pineapple is a great touch! Also, the bartered shrimp are perfect. Probably a top 3 Cesar salad I have had had. The next salad we got was the Seasonal harvest salad and this initially had a lot of potential. The dressing was a bit sour and just ended up overpowering the rest of the salad. We stood on the street for a while trying to find another place, (yelping) that might be better. After a few minutes, we decided to go into Local Foods. The person behind the counter greeted us with a wonderful smile. We perused the menu. There are so many unique items to choose from. I settled on the brunch pozole. My wife ordered the French toast casserole. After the first bites of each, we were already talking about putting Local Foods on our favorites list. I was able to taste numerous ingredients individually, (chicken, egg, avocado, pickled red onion, cilantro, shaved radish, and tortilla strips were perfectly balanced. My wife's French toast casserole was.. just wow. The bread was perfect throughout, which surprised me. (Often French toast is undercooked in the middle, and overcooked on the outside.) Great spot for a quick bite with excellent food offerings. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Even if there's a line, it moves very quickly and because their dining room spans two stories, there're always free tables. The decor is rich in colors, but also features a lot of plants. This makes the restaurant seem very open and bright. Service is quick and friendly. On my most recent visit, I had their chicken sandwich and loved it. This just confirmed my expectations from previous visits. The roll was toasted and in contrast to the refreshingly cold salad topping the chicken in the sandwich. I picked red potato salad and kale salad as sides, which were both very delicious and the kale salad had excellent texture. I really love Local Foods. I think all their food is really delicious, and I especially love when their seasonal lemonade flavor has mint in it. My favorite sandwich used to be their banh mi, but ever since I was pregnant with my last child, the chicken sandwich has been speaking to me, despite never being high on my list before. Met up with some friends for lunch here and I am so excited to know that we have some locations in Houston because the meal, staff and atmosphere were great! The cashier was super friendly and explained the business and meal options to us. More than happy to answer any questions. The food is so fresh and light. Only tiny complaint we had is that the potato salad was a little sweet but besides that the meal was delicous! I got a crunchy chicken sandwich to go and the bill was 46$!!! For 2 entrees, crazy! Escalated quickly for not alot of food. Nevertheless; the lions main mushroom and the baba ganoush in the power brown were to die for, highly recommend this dish. Such sticker shock at the price. A salad with no protein is $15, add chicken to make it a meal and you're spending $20 for a salad alone with no drinks, sides or full table service. A basic BLT is almost $20 once you add tax. Agua frescas were $5 and lemonade was $7. I would love to spend more time inside and maybe work in the lovely little second floor area, but when everything is so expensive it's hard. They were also out of several menu items when we were there. For just as good food at 25-50% less Sweet Greens is two blocks one direction and Flower Child is one block in the other.
