I have been coming here for many years (since the 90's). The level with which this place has gone downhill in the last year is astounding. Rude, apathetic workers who don't care about customer service, food that doesn't taste the same as it did six months ago and the prices are a joke. The BEST coffee shop ever I absolutely love this place and the bagels are to die for. My favorite coffee is still the coconut crunch, they just don't have the chunks of coconut anymore. What was ordered as a matcha latte was made as an iced matcha latte. Best mix up ever as the iced version was amazing! I love that it is already made with almond milk so no need to swap out milk or anything and no additional cost for changes. Definitely a plus! Perfectly delicious on a pleasant day. I was scoping out the Long Beach area for a coffee shop and this location popped up. Since then, I keep returning. The moment you walk in, the feel of the place is great. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the baristas are very upbeat and nice. You can tell lots of locals come here as they know many people by name and face. I love the fact that their pastry selection is fairly robust, they have some delicious breakfast items (I've had the lox bagel and the avocado toast and both are amazing). The coffee, I've stuck to the basic brew: local and black gold. They both are robust and flavorful (I don't even use creamer or sugar). Additionally, they have a nice selection of crafted coffee as well, I just haven't had a chance to try any. Definitely a place worth checking out. read more

After 18 years of supporting the location i wont be returning. Not sure if everyone is experiencing this, but the staff ever since Jen left has been declining. Last week approached the door at opening was still locked, no biggie. But the look I got from the guy working was killer. Once I walked back to my car, be unlocked the door and didnt bother to acknowledge me. Im all about supporting local business, but bad staff puts them out. When I moved to the area the shop was a gem, now there are a half a dozen shops and better service with at least a good morning. Good Luck Local Grind, youre going to need it! read more

Came here to meeting over coffee. Barista was very rude. They did not make us feel welcomed and seemed annoyed to take our order. I asked for a copy of the receipt and was asked to wait for it (it was within tearing distance but I waited) and grabbed some of our order as the half the drinks were ready and I was still waiting for my receipt (I was the only one in line and had been waiting for about 3 minutes at this point). I came back to get the receipt only for the barista to crumble it up in front of me and then apologize for forgetting and giving me the crumbled up receipt that I need for my expense report. My chai latte was just okay and I only drank a quarter of it. In fact, none of us loved our drinks and were thrown away with most contents left. I try to support local businesses as much as I can but in this case I would prefer Starbucks over the rude staff and mediocre drinks here. read more

This is strike 3, it's pretty sad you have good food & drinks but cannot seem to PREPARE IT CORRECTLY I used to come once a week, now once a month, in the future probably never. I asked for 2 Bacon Egg & Cheddar cheese bagels, one on Jalapeño & the other on a Plain bagel. I get home & one has cream cheese & the other cheddar cheese?? At no time did I mention CREAM CHEESE Last time I ordered them on everything bagels and EVERYTHING was burnt charcoal black when I got home I had to toss the bagels & eat the eggs with black carbon on them. My family and I used to always go to this spot back in the old days when it was once an It's A Grind; while I still privately mourn, Local Grind has managed to keep captivating me as a customer. THE FOOD. Pretty much any food item I have ever gotten here has been fantastic. While we generally just order from the ready-to-go pastry case, Local Grind does boast a solid Build-Your-Own board. My family loves -- Ham & Cheese Croissant : no kidding, there is much ham. It's savory and slightly sweet, super buttery and flaky, and very filling. Locals Only : a toasted bagel with an absurdly generous amount of cream cheese, plus cheddar cheese, plus an egg. My teen loves to add another protein to this hearty cheese bomb but it's a lot on its own. Orange Cranberry Muffin : my toddler would live off of these if I let him. Honestly, they're really really good. My personal BYO creation/abomination: Sourdough bagel with avocado, oven roasted tomato, and house pickled onions. I could legitimately eat that s### everyday. THE DRINKS. Pretty tasty. I notice a lot of people going in and ordering just the self-serve brewed coffee, which they always have a couple kinds available. Local Grind has a cute interior and a great selection of items if you're looking for a coffee/pastry. The prices are good for the size (medium is big!!) and there is plenty of seating outside. It's a great place to meet up with friends and grab a beverage. The only downsides are that they have no bathroom and they run out of items in the afternoon. I went around 1pm and they didn't have any turkey sandwiches. Also, my sourdough bagel took almost 10 minutes to prepare even though it was just toasted with cream cheese. I want to like this place more, but sadly I don't. I'm sure it's a great study spot if you're in the area and craving coffee in the morning. read more

Place is great for an iced tea but man...whenever I get food there's just no love put into it. The bagels are ever so slightly toasted (may as well not ask for it toasted) and the cream cheese is messily placed. Plus, the staff eight times outta ten seem grumpy or just have no affect. Their cold brew coffee is VERY watered down. You can taste the water way more than the any coffee. Feels like a bit of a rip off.

Cool little spot! Stopped here after dropping someone off at the dentist office nearby and found it a cozy place to work. Inside, there isn't a ton of seating, but there is *some* which is nice. Outside, there's a few tables and a nice looking patio. They have lots of drink options, including Americano's with 2, 3, or 4 shots of espresso (get wiredddd!). I ended up getting a large cold brew and the drink was strong and delicious. I asked if the 3-shot Americano or the cold brew would be stronger, and they mentioned the cold brew...and it definitely left me wired for the rest of the night! Oh, and in a time when coffeeshops are often charging $5+ for a drink; this place has still managed to keep prices low enough; and that will keep me coming back! read more

I love matcha tea and glad I saw it on the menu. I got a matcha latte. It was smooth, warm, and silky. It just needed a little packet of stevia to top it off. There weren't too many variations of the matcha the menu. I would have offered one more star if there were. read more

I have been coming to the Long Beach Local Grind for a decade. There has been a lot of changes with the past few years of having a new owner + a name change. I appreciate the staff and the environment is lovely and clean. That being said, I am really disappointed to see how the quality of the drinks have become. The coffee and tea are watered down, the prices have gone up (understandable - but for the price the quality should be the same). To compensate for the watered down drinks I have asked for no ice and they told me that would be an extra $1 charge to order an iced drink with no ice. I understand there is a competitor coffee shop across the street, but this is not the way to keep loyal customers. I adore this place, and it pains me to take my business elsewhere. I hope the owners take these reviews to heart because we love Local Grind, but need some accountability for the quality of products you serve. read more

My bagel on the other hand was good this is my second time here and the coffee is better than Starbucks any day of the week.Son matcha on the other hand was not sweet but still good ! The vibes are very local and very welcoming. 1st visit - I orders a large iced coffee and holy moly was it large. It was a family sized 32oz cup of iced coffee. I was more than thrilled to have it. The coffee was delicious and refreshing for such a hot day. 2nd visit - Stopped for hot coffee and opted for breakfast "Local" sandwich. It was delicious! Both times ordered a Black Cherry Oat Milk Latte. It's my new go-to! I fell in love with it. This will now be my go-to coffee shop when in LB! read more

can I just say...this might have been one of the best coffee shops I have ever been too. I do remember it being on the pricier side of coffee but don't quote me. Nonetheless, coffee was bombbbb it was the closest thing to perfect coffee imo. AND THE BAGEL.....girl that was a amazing bagel. The person who served me was so sweet and kind, but our order did take a minute to get out. But the shop itself? well gorgeous despite being a little small. it was so classy and intimate. I love it.
