Stopped by for a couple ice cream cones with my sister in-law last Mon, late afternoon. There was a very tall unfriendly male in his 40's and a young rude, arrogant female who had no apparent reason for her inappropriate behavior except for her ignorance and lack of customer service experience! There was no sign of any potential customers within100 feet of the joint, but yet she seemed too overwhelmed to answer a few simple questions pertaining to our purchase. In addition, she was confused when I said here's the coins. I had to explain further "Just return a $10 bill from a $20 bill" (for 2 little cones). It was a very uncomfortable experience and we will NOT be returning or recommending Local Ice in the future. The ice cream is organic so yes you're going to pay a buck more than at other ice creameries. The flavors we've tried have all been good, they have some specialty flavors that rotate. The hours on Yelp do not match the hours on their website. At about a buck more than a large coffee at Starbucks, I'm not sure why people are complaining about the prices. Yummy yummy yummy. But the SERVICE SUCKS!!! I ordered a scoop of ice cream and a cappuccino. The guy taking my order, asked the girl there if they could still make cappuccinos. She looked at the machine, made a big sigh and said, "Yeah, sure." They proceeded to turn the machine on. While it was warming up she turns to me and said, "You know there's a Starbucks around the corner right?" I replied with, "Well, give me a refund, and I'll go there." She then replied, "We're already making it." I was so mad when she gave me the coffee. And when I drank it, all I could taste was her bitterness and spitefulness. She was young and immature. So I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she'll eventually learn that being kind in life goes a long way. And yet, she had a very very long way to go. The guy working there was a delight. We had the chocolate ice cream and it was delicious. So creamy and decadent! The cone was very fresh and delicious as well. It was perfectly crunchy and didn't become soggy, nor was it too hard. I was pleasantly surprised and it exceeded the quality of other homemade ice cream shops I have tried in Los Angeles. We've been fans of Local Ice for a quite a long time at it's original location. All of the ice cream is organic and amazing. You want to judge an ice cream shop? Check out their basic vanilla -- Local Ice's is fabulous with great vanilla bean taste. Strawberry? Most places' versions taste fake and gross, Local Ice has an incredible, tasty strawberry. The chocolate (and the dark chocolate) are also fabulous! And don't get me going on their seasonal flavors...the Mexican Chocolate is a must try!! (I keep begging for it to be made a standard flavor.) While we will deeply miss the shop in Studio City, we will make a point of supporting them (and enjoying the yumminess) whenever we're at The Grove. It's family owned, they use organic dairy, they have a plethora of non dairy options that are equally delicious, and the owners are awesome people as well. The flavors are both traditional and creative (without ever being pretentious or bougie), and I've yet to try one I didn't like. I was DISCRIMINATED HERE!!! I came around 7:20pm-7:30pm to get a banana split and I saw that there was no line(at times it's so busy!!) only one older man being helped. So I walk up to see the flavors and specials they have..meanwhile there's a lady working alone helping out a man. While she's helping him out she looks at me makes EYE CONTACT with me as she continues to help this older man. She's charging him and she STILL NOTICES me so I move behind him to make a line so I can order for myself. YES SHE COULD STILL SEE ME BEHIND IN LINE WAITING BEHIND THE OLDER MAN. Well another man walks up from afar not even close enough to the counter or windows and she straight up ignores me to help this other guy KNOWING I was waiting for about 5 minutes. She has a cheerful tone as she asked him, "May I help you sir?" The man kindly tells her I was there first as I've been waiting. She turns to me and plainly just says with a total different tone that seemed as she was annoyed "Can I help you???" The other man also noticed her tone. I looked at her and calmly I said " I don't want anything anymore." She quickly turned around to the other guy and with that same cheerful tone I could hear her say "Sorry about that, can I help you sir?" Disgusting behavior!! I used to come here all the time. Local Ice has impeccable service! Especially this one server named Alexander. He made sure my ice cream experience was beyond perfect. His knowledge of the flavors astounded me and transcended the limits previously known to mankind. His suggestion to pair the "Cookie Monster" flavor with "Lisa's Lemon Ice" seemed at first unconventional, but upon consumption drastically altered my perception of flavor itself.
