Our family loved this restaurant, visited quite frequently and told all of our friends about what a great restaurant Loco Ono WAS. The swift decline in portion size, quality and customer service is indicative of imminent failure. Our poke bowls were missing many items, some of the items were substituted WITHOUT PERMISSION due to them "running out" of items (on a Saturday night?), and I spent the entire next day in the bathroom, after eating here, due to food poisoning. There is no way to call the restaurant, as no one answers the phone and the answering machine is always "full". After emailing Loco Ono, a man responded, and said he would "look into the matter." No further communication has been received. This is not an inexpensive restaurant! Give your hard earned money to a restaurant which meets a higher standard. Literally just left this place and started eating in the car on our way home. I already know I'll be back and I'm only 3 bites in. This is the best meal I've had in awhile. My wife and I ordered take out here due to the large breadth of menu items: I love Hawaiian plate lunch and my wife would rather poke, so this seemed like a good fit. Online menu was not very descriptive of the large amount of unusual items so most of the stuff we didn't even know what it was. I ordered a bbq mix plate lunch (katsu and teriyaki chicken) which came with typical sticky rice but unfortunate the typical Mac salad was an extra side (what?!?!). The katsu breading was good but too crisp and teriyaki didn't seem like it was marinated , not much flavor but it wasn't terrible. Rice was par for the course but didn't enjoy the Mac that I paid extra for at all (had little chunks of potato in it that was off-putting). Wife said the same about her Salmon tacos, just kinda "meh", but not terrible. Worst part of the experience was when we got home and realized my wife's $7.95 Cali Style Salmon wasn't in our bag. I called for a refund, which nobody there knew how to do and a 20 minute phone call later finally got the refund. Overall price seems well above average. Not sure I'll be back... read more

Do yourself a favor, call right now, and order a salmon katsu taco and the hamachi collar. Both are some for he best dishes I have ever eaten. The Damon katsu taco is so unique and had a great balance of flavors and textures. And the hamachi collar was perfectly cooked and I want to bathe in the teriyaki sauce. Also you're gonna need extra macaroni salad because it is just that good. They put potatoes in it and it adds a really interesting texture that is just fantastic. Update: I have gone here almost every other week whether it's for the poke or the hot food and it is fantastic. I love the food and the staff. Everyone there is so kind and always so accommodating. The poke is fresh and always so yummy. They never skimp out on product and give you so much. I now only get the kids poke because of how full it is. Being from Hawaii, I always get excited to see some Hawaiian local food. Unfortunately a lot have opened and failed, largely because the food was/isn't very good. Came here for the first time today and ordered the Teri beef plate. The young man taking my order was very kind and courteous. The macaroni salad wasn't what I'm used to but was actually very good! The teriyaki was very good as well. Kimchee (side order) was excellent. Rice was also made correctly and was also very good. Can't wait to come back and try some different plates. read more

This store is awful and we will not be returning to this location or the midtown location. The older lady who works the front counter has major issues. She forgets half our order, then not only refuses to apologize, but lies and tries to blame my mom for her mistake, AND gives me crap the whole time she's fixing the mistake that SHE made. The details: I placed an online order for a crab bowl and a mochiko chicken plate, and sent my mom in to pick up the order while I was getting my phone fixed at Ubreakifix next door. My mom gave the cashier the name the order was under and was directed to one bag, which she took. After we left the plaza, I realized the crab bowl was missing and drove back to the store. When I returned and mentioned to the cashier that an item was missing, the cashier rudely stated that "my driver" only showed her the mochiko chicken order and didn't mention the crab bowl. This was a blatant lie. My mom never showed her anything, as the order was on my phone, which was not in her possession. After the cashier makes the crab bowl, she then comments why my bag had no utensils and that "my driver" must have taken the other bag. Another blatant, and this time more ridiculous, lie. How was there a second bag when the cashier herself told me that she was only aware of the mochiko chicken order? Moreover "my driver" was in the car with me the entire trip, so very clearly there was no second bag, or I wouldn't be running 30 minutes over my lunch break, on a busy day, driving all the way back to flipping Sparks. To add insult to injury, the cashier continued to give me attitude as I was walking out, saying sarcastically as I went for the door, "you're welcome". Luckily for her I didn't have time to get into it, or there would have been some yelling at that point. If I have a hunger for poke this is the place to go. They don't skimp on the toppings like other places charge you extra for. Heavy handed scoops of protein, sometimes the white fish and scallops are on the fishy side and sometimes they forget about the fried wonton chips aside from that. I've tried many poke bowl places across various states (CA, MN, AZ, FL), and the only good thing I can say about this one is: It was A LOT of food (mainly rice, but still). Unfortunately, I never had a poke bowl that was so bland and boring. Unlike most places I know, they don't mix everything together, but I got two (rather large) scoops of rice sitting in the one corner of the (rectangular) "bowl," and the fish with toppings sat in the other corner while the wasabi came in an extra container. We've been coming to this Loco Ono Location in Sparks,NV for a couple of years now whenever we visit Reno and it has always been very good except for today, Food was all over cooked and portion was for a kid size meal for $16.95. The chicken katsu was the worst cause it was not only over cooked but it looked like they took one boneless chicken breast or thigh and fillet to make 4 pieces , it was so thin that it only looked like over cooked breading. Manager/Owner was not there and who ever was in charge did not even come out and make it right. Wish I remembered to take a photo to show how sad our food looked. We really love this place but we are afraid to go come here again . Every time we come here we spend at least $100 - $150 because we always buy Poke by the pound too. First time trying out this place yesterday, August 1st. First impression was really nice. The service of the 2 young kids was exceptional. Came in during the rush hour and they were fast but still was able to accommodate everyone well including the other 5 people on the line. For my order, I got a poke bowl, 2 plate lunches and a spam musubi. The portions for the poke bowl is a lot for a kid's size one so you're getting your money's worth. You can taste the freshness of the fish. The girl's recommendation for the sauce is sooo good (combination of yuzu sauce and the sesame shoyu), she definitely knows which ones are good. The plate lunch that was recommended by the other guy was really delicious too. I ordered Garlic Chicken and Kalbi. The crispiness of the garlic chicken is phenomenal, you bite into it and the juices just comes out. Kalbi was grilled well, it's very tender and juicy. The ambiance of this place is nice, it's quite and well maintained in terms of cleanliness. This is definitely a hidden gem in Sparks! Can't wait to try out the their other location in Midtown Reno. read more

This last experience was not the best, we were going to order from the reno location t they did not have any Kalbi so we decided to go to the sparks location. Normally we never have a any issues at either locations, but this time it wasn't the best. I ordered kalbi and Katsu and the katsu was way over cooked and the kalbi was way to done for us. Wife ordered kalbi and salad, her kalbi was way over cooked also. On top of that we didn't get our Mac salad and they forgot our salad dressing. I would happily give them 5 stars, the food was good, the customer service was ok. I was told that hot food would take longer and to order that first, so I did ask her to place my husbands hot food order before getting in line for the poke bowl station, she must not have heard me since I had to again place the order when I got to the register and then wait 15 mins more. Sadly my experience went downhill from there as I waited for the rest of my order accompanied by very loud and very offensive music. If I had kids with me I would have left without the rest of my order. The music they had on was so loud I had trouble hearing what the employees were saying and then on top of the volume they were playing music with extremely explicit lyrics. I'm not easily offended but I wanted to cover my ears, every other word was the N word or F word or sexually explicit language. This is the reason I will not likely be back. I hope the owners read this and understand that not everyone appreciates that type of music and language and many find it extremely offensive! read more

Came here for my son's b-day because he loves spam musubi and we wanted to check out a new restaurant. We got there half an hour before closing but the two girls seemed to act like we were a nuisance for even being there at that time. We also noticed them talking about our group behind the counter which we thought was weird. When I noticed a mistake was made regarding our order, one of the girls tried to put the fault entirely on me instead of taking any responsibility. The food itself was okay, not special by any means. Nothing about the place screamed Hawaiian, which is very strange to not have any representation of the culture or people. They should also get rid of the word "family" underneath their name, not one aspect made it feel like a family environment. In my view it was overpriced, overcooked, and overhyped. Go to a Hawaiian place that actually cares about it's customers, and better represents the islands. This place ain't it. read more

Loco Ono was empty when we got there a little after 1 pm. Maybe we missed the lunch rush? We ordered 2 lunch plates to go. Chicken Teriyaki and Garlic chicken. Both came with 2 scoops of rice and a very small container of Mac salad which also had potato in it, kinda weird. The food was tasty, but for the price, the meat portions were very stingy! It was not worth over $30 (with tax) for two lunch plates. If you're going to charge that much, add more food and make it worth it. read more
