The al pastor tacos are good but the chorizo was too "meaty" and required condiments to balance out the taste. Bias star for a mere block from work, as this is just as good as any other taco truck. Sometimes I feel like a little chihuahua with a little sombrero and shaking my little pair of maracas. I pant quietly in my little work cube and utter my mantra... "¡Yo quiero Los Compadres!"... "¡Yo quiero Los Compadres!"...Oh jes, I love to be reduced to a cultural stereotype. But who cares when you are between meetings and need a fast bite? The city is full of taco trucks, and this particular company has at least four that thrive on the lunch hour crowds. It's probably the most hidden location as it's in a pay lot off Tehama which is not within sight of First or Second Street. But everybody in the area knows it's there. Lines move quickly, and the wait isn't bad once you order. There is very little chitchat, just a lot of Blackberries, iPhones and Droids being fondled inappropriately. Social interaction is reserved for Facebook, I guess. I had the $6 Super Soft Taco which is quite the mound of carnitas, rice, beans, radishes, carrots, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, and guacamole in a box (see photo). Other favorites are the trio of Soft Tacos, a near-steal at $4.50, and of course, on those days when your boss yells at you, there is always the $7.50 Super Burrito to chomp your way through your professional anxiety. There is just one table - which most people use as a wait station - so have in mind where you're going to park your keester and gorge. The red Los Compadres truck was parked across the street from a couple "gourmet food trucks" (Docs of the Bay, Phat Thai) at 303 2nd St. There was another truck with huge line in front of Mehfil Indian, I wanted something fast so made a beeline for Los Compadres where there was just 2 people in line. Been here a couple of times and I've ordered a burrito each time. Heck, how can you go wrong with a $7 burrito? There are several places to get a good burrito in SOMA and when I'm in the mood to walk-up 2nd Street, I take the opportunity to get some cardio in too. I normally come by after the main lunch crowd has already devoured their food and I've found coming by after 1pm is a good time to avoid the long lines. The burrito's are not the "phat" type, but rather wrapped really tightly and they're longer than most other burritos. I enjoy how all the ingredients are neatly tucked inside the burrito, versus some places that loosely wrap their burritos and everything falls-out. I usually get mine with some type of meat and have liked their carne asada, carnitas and pollo asado, black beans and ask for it spicy. I like how their spicy salsa has a kick, but isn't blazin' hot. I also like that you're not overly stuffed when you've finished your meal. I don't like being in a food coma after lunch with my head slumped-down onto my keyboard. I've seen coworkers come to this little truck for ages but it never made it into my regular lunch rotation... until now. The line is always long around lunch but you get your food fairly quick ~10-12 mins waiting in line and waiting for your order. Get the carne asada burrito with tomatillo salsa! SO GOOD! The meat is very flavorful and tender, the kind that leaves glorious grease when you get to the bottom of the burrito. The salsa adds a nice kick to change things up. I've tried their quesadilla before but for the same price as the burrito, I highly recommend the latter. *sigh* the only taco truck around work and they take 5 minutes to make me 3 tacos. Granted it was only $4.50 for 3 tacos....and any tacos from the taco truck is better than tacos from Yo Quiero Taco Bell. I ordered 3 Al Pastor tacos and was able to play a few rounds of Angry Birds waiting for my food to be ready. It's also very odd when they hand you a card with a number so they can call your number when it's ready. Wow....i'm #85. They just called #79....argh! I'm a burrito fiend. And if my waistline permitted, if have them for every meal. And Los Campadres is where I'd have must of meals, in this ideal world. I had the carnitas (fried pork) burrito with pico de gallo. And it was excellent. The tortilla was soft and yet but overly chewy. The fried pork was good enough to be eaten and its own. And the salsa was hot, but not scalding, and did not overpower the flavour of the rest of the ingredients. Everything just came together perfectly. Probably the best burrito I've had on the US. They have other stuff too: like tacos and quesadillas, which I hear are excellent. But it'll be impossible for me to not have the burrito every time I come here. read more

In a nutshell: + Great lunch burritos, thinner and longer. + "S" for spicy. ~ Long lunch lines. We fondly call this place "Tuesday Taco Truck", but ironically I've never had their tacos. I always get their super veggie burrito. It's different from the Mission-style burritos. It's somewhat thinner and longer (vs being more bulkier) - which is why I like this even more for lunch. I don't have to overeat and keep feeling bad for the rest of the day (for that, there's dinner :3). Their Guacamole tastes fresh and some of my colleagues even get it extra on the side. Their red sauce, which I usually get, is spicy enough to give the right "kick" but not too spicy to the extend that I cry. The line can get a bit long around noon (and is usually the case till 1pm) but it moves relatively fast. Prices are also reasonable (my order comes around to $8), plus they accepts credit cards (not typical of street trucks). If it's sunny and warm outside, we usually head to the park (POPOS) right opposite to this truck. I'd come here compared to Chipotle any day (it's a no-brainer for me). One of the spots that's on my lunch rotation and I'll be back here (if not every week). read more

I went to Los Compadres one day during lunch with some co-workers. We went around 11:45 so we could avoid the long line from the lunch rush. We got there and there were a few people in line. But our orders were taken and we got our food really quickly, everything was hot and they really pack it well since they know you are taking it to-go. I ordered the carne asada taco and a carnita taco and added chips and guac to my order. I was honestly impressed with the quality of the tacos and the meat, since I am a little hard to please being from Texas. I thought the tacos were really good and the guac was decent, the chips were nice and thick and didn't break when trying to scoop guac on your chip. I LOVE that they give you in-house pickled veggies. They made their own pickled jalapenos, carrots, and radishes. The pickled veggies definitely complimented the tacos well. $5 for lunch in SOMA, you can't beat that! I alternate between the 2 Los Compadres taco trucks, depending on how much time I have for lunch. They are both delicious & quite efficient. Even with a long line the wait is minimal. I always order the 3 taco plate. These are street tacos so they are pretty small, but I find that they fill me up nicely. Of course I could fit another taco or 2 in my tummy but then I'd be overly full. 5 bucks for tacos that are well stuffed with meat...that's a steal! There are even a few tables outside where you can enjoy your lunch in the sun. The chicken & carnitas are my faves. Some coworkers told me that there is a good taco truck down the street that makes great burritos. I was immediately interested. There's a bit of a line near lunch time, but they turnover quickly. I ordered a staple. The carne asada burrito. There are few options to choose from which is fine. I added sour cream and cheese, because I'm a gentleman of discerning burrito tastes. After receiving the burrito and a short walk back to the office it was time for the unveiling. It was a good size, and after pulling back the foil, I noticed the fillings had started to seep out just a little to give the burrito a shimmer of grease. This is completely expected from a good burrito truck. I was excited with my first bite. It was good. Although the meet was not top quiality, it had been cooked well and was flavorful. The mix of ingredients was great. I was excited because this seemed to meet standards that I had come to expect from living in San Diego for so many years. Then... about half way through. A hair. Nothing ruins lunch like pulling a very long woman's hair out of your lunch. So I'm torn. It was a great burrito, but it was also ruined. This should have been a 4 star review, maybe even 5 stars. Pretty good burrito truck right outside of my work. I was pretty hungry for lunch and wanted to check out the truck. I came here a little after 12 and man was the line long. There was at least 10 people in front of me. From the time I got in line to the time I got my food it must have been 30 minutes. I will probably time it a little better next time. I ordered their el pastor burrito. They have a few other meat options and you can also add toppings to your burrito/taco for an additional cost. Some places stand out because they are the best around. Others because they do one particular thing so well you can't say no. Los Compadres mostly stands out because it's surrounded by mediocrity. This little truck sits in a run down alley off 2nd, tucked between parking lots and construction sites. The line around lunch can easily be a 15 minute wait, which is slightly offset by rarely waiting more than 5 minutes to get your food post-order. The burritos here are a curiosity. Little filler -- you are getting pure meat and grease (or pure beans and grease for you veggies). The red sauce is solid, if a little on the light side for my taste. If you're down for a drink, they stock the requisite Jarritos and Mexican coke like any good taqueria. Moral of this story: it's not the mission, but you aren't doing better in SOMA. If you're looking for the best burrito in the area, I can't recommend better than Los Compadres. read more

I'm pretty sure I swing by Los Compadres around once a week on average at this point. I've tried most of their burritos, but always default to the super chicken w/ mild salsa. Maybe I'm a wimp around lunchtime, but their spicy is SPICY! For under $10 you'd be hard-pressed to find a quicker, tastier, better-crafted - and generously sized - burrito in downtown SF. Sure, there's always either Tropisueño or HRD, but while top-notch, those guys are slightly less accessible when you have a 30 min window to stuff your face and get back to work. Try to time your visit at either 11:30am or 1pm and skip the line! read more

The only reason I feel somewhat conflicted about only giving this place two stars is because it is relatively inexpensive compared to the 10$+ lunch that is found in just about every other place in this area of the city, but I'm tired of giving mediocre places bonus points just because they are handicapped against the city's expensive options. THE FOOD: I got 3 soft tacos (I always get regular tacos as a baseline for all taco trucks), 2 carne asada and 1 carnitas. The asada was good, but the carnitas left something to be desired. However, if you come here, make sure you don't come during peak business hours or else the wait can be extremely long. I recommend coming before 12 or after 1:30 if you want to get your food quickly. As for their food, all i can say about them is that while they are tasty, there's not really anything unique about them that separates it from the rest. This truck is run of the mill honestly. I love taco trucks but I mean this one just seems like they got the novelty of eating a meal from well a truck. It's better than most places in the area for sure, but that's because there isn't much to actually go for good tacos or burritos. The line is nasty so come early. And the wait can be a while. Best burrito in SOMA or the FiDi, no questions asked. Yes, the line can be long sometimes, but once you get used to the rhythm, you can see that the guys inside the truck are actually pretty dang efficient. They take 6 or 7 orders, prepare and serve them, then take some more. I gets it done. Now that the bit about the service has been said, on to the food. Don't come here for tacos (go to Fat Taco or Maya or whatever), don't come here for quesadillas (really, don't go anywhere for quesadillas), and don't come here for chips. Come here for burritos. The burrito is the perfect mix of greasy and crispy, pressed mere moments ago. I've had most of the fillings, and I think that a Super Chicken is really the way to go. The Al Pastor can be good, but it's too hit or miss to rely on. And, of course, what's the point of getting a burrito if it isn't super? One of my top lunch spots. read more

I ordered the basic $6 burrito with carnitas, and only then managed to read the one other Yelp review while I walked back to eat in my office. Heart sinking with that unhappy writer's descriptions, I tentatively bit into this firmly-packed Mexi-food cylinder. My first thought was: "Dry." However, as I munched along, my opinion began to shift. Yes, this was drier than my ideal burrito, but, then again, I was the one who was too cheap to spring for the lubricating benefits of sour cream or guac. Even so, I found that the pork was rich and tasty, and their salsa had a wonderful roasty flavor. By one-third of the way into my burrito, I was enjoying this thing enough that I had to stifle little instinctive 'nom nom' sounds. Otherwise just go to GARAJITO down the street on 3rd and folsom for consistent experience. They have this spot for a while so it's a bit of a monopoly maybe that's why quality and service was bad but others know Garajito is right around the corner. I was served completely burnt carnitas see photos. I couldn't chew it, had barely the flavor because it was dried out basically. The rest of Burrito was ok so 2 stars but what a horrible experience. This taco truck is hidden in the parking lot and its a great find. On your way you might find a waffle truck or a cupcake truck occasionally which makes for a nice desert if your willing to shell out the cash for it. Burritos are ok but oh god the tacos. The tacos make this place, just get them. The salsa to food ratio for the small tacos is much better and provides a better taste overall to the meal. The only issue I have is they gob on the salsa on one side so you have to eat it on its side like a regular taco but its so small that its weird to eat like that. The flavor is heavily in the center as well because the gob of salsa is in the center. I wish they spread the salsa out more evenly across the burrito. read more

I love their burritos, and I think this place would hold its own even in the Mission. The carne asada resembles ground steak more than cubed chunks and gets pretty greasy, but it's delicious. The chicken's much lighter in flavor, but still good with some red sauce. I substitute out beans for pico de gallo, and I'll usually get the regular because it's already got a lot of flavor without the guacamole and sour cream. I think I'm just a sucker for any well-structured burrito with cilantro, but these guys get extra points for being so efficient with the lunch crowd. read more

Lovely location with deck seating by the Napa River or a big koi pond with lots of large koi swimming around . I've been to taco Tuesday night to couple of times and sat by the river with my friend. Lost compadres posted a celebration lunch for the parks and rec kayak river cleanup which was lovely we got the order whatever we want it on the menu that was very generous. And last night I was there with the Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch for a celebration thanking us for our volunteering on there when a Palouse a fundraiser at which we recently raised $1.7 million for the animals. We were very well taken care of at this little celebration last night many many offerings by the adorable Spanish-speaking waitresses. That menu was all vegetarian. Nice to see you opera both vegetarian and carnivore menu. read more

I've been going to this one (and the one on Folsom) for a while now. Their food is alright. the quesadilla is pretty basic and kind of small; Don't expect anything like the farolito style here. The the tacos are okay. My go to is the Super Burrito. It's halfway decent most of the time. My main gripe with this place is the wait times. I've waited up to 45 minutes for a burrito which is basically untenable for anyone who has actual work to do. From an efficiency perspective, they could be doing a lot better. Usually they have 3 guys and this isn't a problem, but it really backs up when there are two. I'd wager that for the marginal cost of hiring another dude to fill in, they could make up additional business that they lose when people walk by and see a line halfway down to the ball park. The fact is, these guys have a monopoly on the burrito market here. so no matter how long the line, no matter how many times they raise the prices, i'll keep coming back... for now. read more
